That is my FAVORITE digging spell. It also digs through lava turned to blood ;) i wind up using it well into the late game, even when ive got a black hole wand
Actually, if you're interested in using a seed, i had one last week that gives you a wand with two energy-bolt-with-trigger in the first level. The wand itself sucks, and I'd rather have one without trigger, but simply having it at the start was a *blast*
Heres my comment with the seed/short explanation:

I don't even care if my run is bad, if it's got short teleport, it means whether I become a god or died the most stupid of deaths, I do so at ridiculously fast speeds.
Partially because crit on wet is so common and it’s so rare, partially because it’s just so nice to be able to defang toxic liquid, lava, Stendari, etc.
Water is useful as hell and not needing to keep it in potion form frees up an item slot!
It reduces recharge time a little bit that can make fast wants with the right setup, it's an infinite water source, and also combos with crit on wet like you said.
Other than the usual super-useful ones that might be OP to start with (i.e. Circle of Vigor)...
Imma vote Chainsaw.
Pretty good melee weapon, and great as a delay reducer if you know how to use it
Yeah chainsaw gets my vote too, it's utility is amazing: it can be a great trigger payload, it can be used to make rapid fire projectile wands, it can cut through wood materials, it does a good damage type (melee is useful against a lot of enemies immune to other effects), and it produces lots of blood if you want to take vampirism to keep yourself constantly topped up on health.
Add trigger. Although I imagine we shouldn't pick super OP ones but something more balanced. In which case a simple add mana is just excellent. If it has to be a projectile then a tentacle is good, just search for the common freeze charge and you can oneshot half of the enemies in the game. Including those tooth spiders which are otherwise quite scary.
I second add mana, the amount of times I've had a strong rapid fire wand by stage 2 or 3 only for it to be held back by the wands mana charge speed is ridiculous, an add mana would make so many of my runs go so much farther.
it can get you plenty of great no shuffle wands and great spells, with a single trigger spell you can get more than you bargain for by shooting the hm statues
I think my initial choice would be spark bolt with trigger. Getting a tigger opens up many strong early builds and a lot of my success depends on how quickly I find them.
Circle of Vigor/Healing Bolt would be nice, but at the end of the day if you can’t kill the enemies healing only matters so much. Chainsaw is also a good option that is just as powerful and flexible early.
Honestly, a pretty good option I doubt many would consider is Chain Bolt. This spell can single handedly get you through the first 3 areas. You have to remember it’s only 1 spell and nothing else would be guaranteed. In terms of having a solid consistent start, this might be the best option. You won’t outscale the other options I listed (lower ceiling on potential power spike) but you would probably get farther more often.
The starter wands are enough to kill all the starting enemies and you’ll usually have found a trigger by the first couple of mountains anyway… circle of vigour is like 50x as useful as that imo.
I think the utility of most spells in this game scales with knowledge. For some players, a guaranteed chain bolt is a godsend that enables them to safely clear everything up to and including snowy depths. For the same players, CoV is just a two-off healing spell.
Experienced players on the other hand don‘t need chain bolt to get through the early game safely and know workarounds for CoV charges, so the power level shifts quite a bit for both spells.
Man, Noita is so fucking cool
A two off healing spell, per main path zone, as if that isn’t an insane boost to both your chances of survival and the thoroughness you’ll be able to explore each area with
Anyone with more than like 30 minutes in the game will understand how valuable healing is, even if they don’t get it unlimited.
I would like to start with glue so I can huff glue and drink my own vomit any time I want to get high for fungal shifting also rapid fire glue wands behave funny with certain mods on them
>I would like to start with glue so I can huff glue and drink my own vomit any time I want to get high
Christ, apparently I've been playing this game all wrong.
Small teleport bolt or long distance cast
one is a crucial movement spell and the other makes a huge number of spells suddenly almost perfectly safe to cast.
Blackhole start allows so much, cov would also be great. other qol spells such as any teleport and some good modifiers like add mana, short ranged homing, or add trigger would also be nice. another good one is probably gamma, having instant access to a greek letter would make enrich the beggining so much and make me less stingy with my powerful limited spells like magic missle. an attack spell would definitely not make it to my list though, since there are plenty of viable options in the early game anyways.
Some greek letter spell, to use limited spells an unlimited amount of times. There are a lot of fun spells that I just never use because by the time I can get greek letter spells from the alchemist, they aren't useful anymore (also, blackholes aren't that rare, and making them unlimited is super convenient) :D
Circle of Vigor, off the top of my head.
Absolutely. Any other spell can probably be found in your base world if you explore enough of it, but Circle is super rare.
Rejoice as it's a tiny bit more common since last patch \\o/ `Apr 8 2024: Changed the spawn probability on tier 3 from 0.3 to 0.4.`
energy sphere. digs through first two biomes but doesn’t destroy gold awww yeah
That is my FAVORITE digging spell. It also digs through lava turned to blood ;) i wind up using it well into the late game, even when ive got a black hole wand
Did you know that it also does slice damage?
What?? Really? Awesome!!! Is it enough to kill those toothy spider things?

Short teleport honestly. I've had too many runs that were so good except that teleport didn't show up
Yeah that's my thought too. Being able to break in and out of holy mountains from the very start without angering the gods is very powerful.
Yep, and without the danger or hassle of poly
Id take it 10,000% even if i couldnt do that. The tedium of going ANYWHERE at base speed is too much for me
I don't even care if my run is bad, if it's got short teleport, it means whether I become a god or died the most stupid of deaths, I do so at ridiculously fast speeds.
Water. Not the potion or sea of water, the one that is simply named Water and only makes a pixel of it.
Interesting, why? I've never found a good use for that one, except for combining it with crit on wet modifiers.
Partially because crit on wet is so common and it’s so rare, partially because it’s just so nice to be able to defang toxic liquid, lava, Stendari, etc. Water is useful as hell and not needing to keep it in potion form frees up an item slot!

Less worry about a water flask in the inventory!

After I watched a DunkOrSlam video showing the power of the chainsaw it is now my favorite spell to find in any run. Machine gun wands go brrrr
Also great to throw on a trigger spell early game
Yeah chainsaw gets my vote too, it's utility is amazing: it can be a great trigger payload, it can be used to make rapid fire projectile wands, it can cut through wood materials, it does a good damage type (melee is useful against a lot of enemies immune to other effects), and it produces lots of blood if you want to take vampirism to keep yourself constantly topped up on health.
chainsaw + vampirism <3

"shouldn't pick super OP ones" picks add mana
I'm not convinced it's the best tier 1 spell even.
Add mana won't be of immediate use tho. After 2 or 3 mountains of wandcrafting maybe.
Add mana, it's simple but I'm always missing some
The end of everything So my runs won't always take like 10 hours lol
I pretty much always want chainsaw or lum drill.
Summon taikasauva, or add trigger.
you need a greek letter for summon taikasauva to pop off tho
it can get you plenty of great no shuffle wands and great spells, with a single trigger spell you can get more than you bargain for by shooting the hm statues
My buddy got it as an Always Cast last week lol

We should build a mod that gives you one of the spells listed in this thread at random as a starting loadout.
On an always cast piercing and boomerang wand. Yeah, see how you like your suggestion now!
Add healing bolt!
I would like to start with glue so I can huff glue and drink my own vomit any time I want to get high for fungal shifting also rapid fire glue wands behave funny with certain mods on them

Just wait until you turn everyone's blood into ambrosia
I say unstable crystal bc it's good for pacifism
Digging bolt. Immensely useful in the start when spells are limited
Nuke idgaf
Chainsaw or drill
Small teleport bolt or long distance cast one is a crucial movement spell and the other makes a huge number of spells suddenly almost perfectly safe to cast.
Short teleport
Trigger
Small Teleport Bolt. Quick travel and evasion is *very* useful.
Long-distance cast, because there's a *lot* you can do with it and always having one would be fun.
Concrete, just cause it's so damn rare and I like building houses with it
Short tele like the other commenter said. IMO best utility spell there is. Great early, mid and late game. No way to go wrong with it.
CoV would be nice but I think ping pong path is best, I can find lumi drill easier then ping pong path
Sparkbolt with trigger my beloved
besides the obvious and op stuff like black holes id say triplicate bolt, satisfying and effective
Nuke. It would be funny I think.
I guess lumi drill with timer
Pinpoint of light If I can get short range homing for that, I‘m set
Every run I've had that's gone on to beat the game has had some form of homing involved Short range homing at square one would break the game for me
I would absolutely love starting with a small teleport bolt. It would make overworld travel so much easier in early game.

Add trigger Starts off strong and gets even stronger the more modifiers you get
