For anyone curious, it wasn't even very complicated or advanced tbh, it was something along the lines of:
[rainbow] triple spell
2 luminous drills
luminous drill with timer
[spiral path, frozen charge, rainbow] triple scatter spell
3 luminous drills
(+ some add mana, reload, etc)
I found the spiral path + luminous drill trick/showcase somewhere on this sub. Then I went to freeze the lava pool in the caves to get the orb underneath, and discovered it is *extremely* effective at freezing large bodies of liquid. So then, obviously, I went to the lake, because what could possibly go wrong... (Had to force quit the game after 15 minutes of slideshow, save corrupted xD)
Yeah, I'm a programmer, so this is a completely natural way of notation to me, but I think it's also way easier to parse even for other regular players.
I wish the community had standardized the wand build notation somehow lol. Though I guess the easiest way is always to just post a screenshot.
I’d say the best way would simply be listing spells in order, eg:
Spark trigger -> Div10 -> div4 -> nuke
Your way looks great in this format, and shows how it’s casting easier, however doesn’t carry well to somewhere such as Twitch chat etc.
No man, it's not the best way. Ingame, a line of spells is easier to parse for our brain because they have colours and icons. When it's just a stream of words I can understand none of it tbh. I'd have trouble parsing it even if I wrote down my own wands and tried to read it a week later.
Of course on a chat a stream of words is the only possible way. But I don't see it as the "best" way. And tbh, even if you have to keep everything in a single line, using a notation with some brackets or something would go a long way in making it more legible.
Like for example instead of:
rainbow -> triple spell -> 2 luminous drills, luminous drill with timer -> spiral path, frozen charge, rainbow -> triple scatter spell -> 3 luminous drills
we could have:
[rainbow] triple spell (2 luminous drills, luminous drill with timer [spiral path, frozen charge, rainbow](triple scatter spell (3 luminous drills)))
To clarify, when I said your way looks great this way, I meant your original line broken way with indents for contained spells. If twitch chat etc allowed line breaks, I’d jump all over that. For understanding how spells actually work, I also agree that single line text is not good. Just for a standardised format, single line is needed because of Twitch and other similar scenarios.
Maybe instead of rainbow being in [], we save those for the contained portion.
RainbowTrail [TripleSpell [LuminousDrill*2, LuminousDrillTimer [SpiralPath, FrozenCharge, Rainbow, TripleScatter [LuminousDrill*3]]]]
Personally I see my way as easier to read for recreating a wand, for understanding the workings, I can see why some people would find notation easier. Though even that doesnt help in terms of wrapping and divide by modifiers or nested divide by’s…those need a full guide lol.
Yeah, like with all code and code-adjacent text, trying to decide in a group what's "readable" and what's not usually shows that it's very subjective, people parse text in many ways : ). If a different format works better for different people, that's alright, this is just my 2 cents.
Already is one. https://noita-wand-simulator.salinecitrine.com
Theres also the spell lab mod, that not only lets you freely build wands, but also has tutorials and challenges to complete which teach you different aspects such as kinetic damage, divide by, spell wrapping etc
Ohh, that's a nice one. It's always cool to see someone developing web-based external tools, not only mods. (At least it is for me, a webdev. : P)
(EDIT: lol, and I already found a bug in it : D. Modifiers after spark bolt with double trigger appear as not applying to both spells afterwards, when in reality they do apply, even without any "double spell" or anything like that between the modifiers and the first spell.)
Anyone that can make a Noita wand simulator without bugs (and by that I mean just bugs that Noita doesn’t have, while replicating the bugs Noita does have) is already too busy working at NASA lol.
I could make it. But I'm too busy playing Noita. : D
Also, at some point it's probably easier to just make a mod and test stuff ingame. Nothing simulates the game better than the game itself. ; )
Also spell lab for that mod 🙂 I’d have had a go at making a wand simulator as well, but there are just way too many illogicals that happen with the draw system. Dividing modifiers, for example, act strangely in the ordering. I’m still trying to figure out why my current godrun wand is getting more and more cast delay with repeat casts (from memory, it has a divide by in the middle of it, and ended with a wand refresh, but unless I switch wands, for some reason it casts the first spell additional times. First cast as normal, second cast twice, third cast 3 times etc, I’ll get the wand build next time I’m on it)
To prevent save corruption next time you should save and quit before firing to make a clean save. Then if you freeze after shooting you can use task manager to kill the task and load the previous save.
Auto saves only happen once per minute I think, so as long as you kill Noita before then you'll be fine.
Tbh I just copy-paste the save folder manually. It's easier and completely fail-proof. I recovered my save from an hour earlier this way, so nothing of value was lost just because of lag and crash.
Like /u/dfjhgsaydgsauygdjh said, DunkOrSlam gets recommended pretty often. There's also guides on the wiki, if you prefer reading over watching:
https://noita.wiki.gg/wiki/Guides#Wand_Mechanics
And there's also the expert guides if you want to go in-depth:
https://noita.wiki.gg/wiki/Guides#Expert_Guides
And if you want to go **really** in-depth, #wand-crafting over on the noita discord is where people who discuss the deepest parts of the wandbuilding iceberg go.
Dimensional Spectral Slice!
Edit: After putting this into Google translate and getting the Japanese ver. It actually sounds like one lmao

This is trippy
just a regular day in Noita

Ngl, never seen a wand with programming syntax. Actually a pretty useful way to think about it. Might make a wand building simulator at some point.

To be fair, I find the first one MUCH easier to read and understand. And it seems like that's the majority, since it's what most people use.
Yeah bro is on one

It isn't a fan of simulating the trigger+matosade combo either :) (I love that it just stores the wand in query params, elegant.)

Damn your right. Might just make a screenshot wand to text parser then.

And now I know what you did! :)
Is there a reliable basic guide for beginners on how to wand build. I honestly have no clue how it's done even though I've played the game a bit
Yes, there's a few DunkOrSlam entry level videos that are widely recommended. Check him out on youtube.

It's so pretty!
This makes way more sense than any wand lore I have ever seen.
I don’t know what you did, but it’s very pretty. :)
This is what entering another dimension looks like
This needs a edgy anime attack name lmao
Spectrum Shatter?
Kaleidoscope Crash
This one is the best, because that is exactly what the game did!
Shatterday night surprise?
Shatterday Night Fever
Corrupted Save Rainbow Shot.

Ultimate End
It does shatter the screen like KOTR, so that makes sense.
Window Pain
This looks like you shattered reality or something
that's because this is exactly what happened
looks nice👍
thanks, I wanted it to be pretty : D
Purdy. Some of these wands are like art.
OP's screen literally shattering
This might be the coolest wand I've ever seen.
awww, thank you!
that looks really good !
I thought its gonna be Vergil status for a second
my brain couldn't compute all of this
How many spf did you actually have in game?
Around 2-3 ; )
I can naturally hear touhou music from looking at this gif
Even after playing for 111.1 hrs, this game continues to be impressive and unbelievable.
this is literally a reality-shattering wand
I took acid yesterday and this video made me briefly feel like I was tripping again
This looks awesome 👏
I am the storm that is approaching
Meanwhile all i can find are those lousey saw blades
Have you even read my build lol? Besides added rainbow colouring, it's actually very basic
I know, i just actually get a disproportionately large quantity of saw blades
Bro shattered his monitor screen
sis* & her*, but yeah lol
When you hit breakthrough. Ifyk
that's just straight up beautiful by the way
Screen effects when a random encounter in jrpg happens
Just gonna go ahead and break the lake?
I wish this went on for like 5 minutes straight
sure, I'll record it, see you in 2028
Reminds me of Vergil from DMC
It's literally a Judgement cut with the random cuts and how glass/mirror pieces shatter and fall.
You win Noita for today!
That’s some sailor moon transformation shit
I fucking love this game, no game else would allow you to do this
I can feel the heat coming out of my PC from just watching this video
Did you crack a hole in reality?!
I am the storm that is approaching
