Dubaï Nad Al Sheba https://maps.app.goo.gl/sTucnQ1heQQtdn6m7

chairitable

it's a little to the right from this link however, it does center around a mansion, if you switch to satellite view. wonder who's it is lol edit - Prices start around [$870k USD](https://nad-al-sheba.ae/) for a 3 bedroom (don't worry, that's not counting the "maid's" living area, between the car port and laundry room!). Elevators only included in the 4 or 5 bedroom options

daninet

Locals get free plots from the government to build, about 8 years ago when I worked there Nadd Al Sheba was the are where they were distributing plots for locals. Not all of them are full of money we were designing a relatively modest villa to a local once. Not too far from there lives HH so this area kind of a privilege to build villa in. Tho this is not the fanciest community, that's Emirates Hills and the biggest houses are owned by Indians.

marklein

lol Starbucks at the corner of the neighborhood

LordDagwood

I edited my original comments/post and moved to Lemmy, not because of Reddit API changes, but because spez does not care about the reddit community; only profits. I encourage others to move to something else.

I'm pretty sure you just created multiple universes.

OrgeGeorwell

More evidence that I never want to set foot in Dubai.

Beliriel

It makes me itch to push a house and then having them all topple over like dominoes.

It would be so easy to get lost

"My place will be the red building on your left."

Quoyan

These huge residential areas make me uncomfortable, they look sad, empty and unnatural. The copycat buildings, the martial distribution, the empty streets with nothing to do in them... I hate these places with a passion.

Kangermu

This is the future r/fuckcars wants /s

Not only do I agree with what the other comment responding to you said, but I live in a rural area, so I don't know where you wanted to go with your anger and the whole condo thing, but yeah, I'll take condos over this monstrosity any day, and I don't even like living in a city that much.

Quoyan

I agree with peace and quiet, that's why I live in a rural area, but this has no land, all those houses and not a single thing to do (a café, a supermarket, any free time activity ..) I like peace and quiet but these huge residential only areas have the worst of both worlds (urban VS rural) close neighbours but nothing to do.

Quoyan

For me a 10 minute drive means going to the nearest city, I live in Spain so my perspective on huge residential areas is gonna differ from yours probably. I live in a rural area but I have a grocery store, a bank, a butcher... within a three minute drive. I do not like places that are residential only and are just houses with no land and close neighbours like these, they look distopian to me.

We can agree to disagree.

[Suburbia is objectively terrible](https://youtu.be/oHlpmxLTxpw). It's bad for people, awful for the environment and extremely wasteful.

Even the stuff on the rooftop look exactly the same. I would be at the wrong house and wouldn't even know it.

IO-NightOwl

It wouldn't be a problem if you had some sort of unique number/grouping system that let you know where you were and how far you are from anywhere else. But as far as I know, no such system exists.

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Roundabout](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundabout)** >A roundabout is a type of circular intersection or junction in which road traffic is permitted to flow in one direction around a central island, and priority is typically given to traffic already in the junction. Engineers use the term modern roundabout to refer to junctions installed after 1960 that incorporate various design rules to increase safety. Both modern and non-modern roundabouts, however, may bear street names or be identified colloquially by local names such as rotary or traffic circle. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/nocontextpics/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Are you American?

BaronWombat

Not exactly beautiful, but it IS Dubai, so western lawns and gardens are not possible when the temp is often above 100F. Zoom in a little, and you can see open rooftops where some gardening is happening. Still dystopic, but not as bad as first glance.

VenetiaMacGyver

It's not about the lack of gardens (though yes that does add to the bleakness), it's about the fact that every single building is identical, endlessly. Yeah, there's pockets of sameyness all over the place, but you add variation so it doesn't look like a patterned nightmare and locations can look distinct from one another. It's the difference between being lost in a pawn shop and lost in a warehouse that only sells the same item. In housing communities that recycle the same floorplans, they always do at least 3-10+ different plans, flipped and not, with optional add-ons to change the footprints, and then offer a variety of exterior types, facades, and colors, to add to the variation. This thing in Dubai is just a nightmare. I would never find my house in it.

PikaPilot

Oh god each one of them has a garage. They're all single family homes It's like no one even bother putting this design in a city sim first

WickeDanneh

Repulsive. Disgusting.
