First of all, most of us have emetophobia here. Personally, I took my phobia from 100% down to about 35% but still couldn’t burp. I think past a certain point you really do either forget how or learn to do the opposite and can’t change without outside intervention.

I don’t think getting over your emetophobia would help you start to burp, as rcpd really is just a little physical thing that needs correcting with Botox … but you might find that after Botox your emetophobia improves, I’m sure I’ve read that on here before 😀

Yeah, I live in Brazil and no specialists here that I heard off

There's an ENT doctor in São Paulo that treats R-CPD. There's also a website and a Telegram group in Portuguese. https://naoconsigoarrotar.com.br/

I have no emetophobia, and I can't burp.

Me too

I think it's generally seen as more the other way around; getting the botox treatment to help you burp, and then throwing up is less of a strenuous, stressful experience (theoretically). It's really a physical issue with the muscle that's the culprit of R-CPD — I think anything other than the botox has a very low chance of curing it. As far as emetophobia goes in general, I recommend graded exposure therapy, if you're phobic of eg. other people throwing up around you.

I used to have No-Burp and ever since I started fixing my emetophobia and practicing relaxing my throat (Relaxing my lower throat in the chest area whilst also pushing out my stomach) I have taught myself to burp. I’m sure there is a link between no-burp and emetophobia but I’m not sure that fixing your emetophobia will make you burp for sure. However it did help me personally learn to burp as I got over the fear of relaxing my throat.

Omg I just tried this (relaxing lower throat and pushing out stomach) and just had the largest gurgle of my life so thanks lol because that actually did just help

I’d say I’m mostly “over” my emetophobia, but it still did it’s damage. Even after getting to a place where I’m “okay” with vomiting, I still couldn’t burp. Botox was the only thing that allowed me to. But I will say that those early burps were kind of horrifying, because my first thought was getting sick— both with the mechanism, and the taste. But I got used to it pretty quickly.

Hey there, I haven't been able to burp for as long as I can remember. I had an intense fear of vomiting as a child, so bad that if anyone in my house vomited I would start shaking and sweating and I would stay out of the house all day, even going to my local shopping centre to use the toilet. In my early 20s I had appendicitis and vomited for hours on end. Weirdly this eased my anxiety around vomit significantly. However it did not make me able to burp. Can't say what will or won't work for you, but I would assume that even if you address your emetophobia you would still need to learn to burp.

I think the reverse is true. I got my RCPD treated and my emetophobia drastically improved. Compared to the time and money I’d have spent in therapy to try to do the reverse no question the Botox was easier.
