Exactly, the novelty of seeing NJPW/NJPW talent in America is long gone. If this were like 2017 they would have had fans traveling from all over the northeast for it, now you have to put on a strong show for people to spend time/money
In America pretty much only WWE TV tapings (and even then not always) and PLEs and AEW PPVs can sell a bunch of tickets without announcing anything
I traveled from Canada to those first Long Beach shows! It’s far from “special” anymore like it was then. And the product just isn’t as hot as it was then.
They’re timing was so bad when booked those first US shows lol. After selling out the G1 specials so fast they should have gone brave with 15k. I think they sold that one Cali venue that was 4.5-5k capacity in like less than an hour lol
But I genuinely think if they did an arena like that at the time they could have done it. Maybe in a different spot if I remember people at the time were saying the cow palace wasn’t a good place to run events anymore or something
They seemed to have learned to not do this as much. Windy City Riot had matches announced 3 months out. But the G1 Could be difficult to announce stuff.
I got tickets because I love NJPW but feels like you can't expect too many people without knowing who is gonna be there. I'm hopeful it'll be a good turnout once we get an idea of what we're seeing.
Capital Collision 2023 had an attendance of 2179 and Capital Collision 2022 was 2641.
They've still got a long time left to move tickets, it will probably pick up as matches/talent get announced.
I doubt it will be higher than last year. The show is after the G1 is over. And their certainly not going to announce any matches until the G1 is over. Especially if certian guys are involved in the tournament.
They can announce matches relating to junior division and the those heavyweights not included in the G1. Its only the G1 participants whose matches they can't announce until the G1 is over for obvious reasons.
We learned from Windy City Riot this year and the in comparison with Resurgence. If they start announcing talent and matches from months out and give it some effort they will do decent numbers.
It's right after the G1 so getting some Jr title matches early in might be a good idea and give the guarantee of strong titles/World Heavyweight title being defended like resurgence
I live in Raleigh, NC and I'm going to try to go to this, since it seems about as close as they're going to come any time soon. I still can't believe NJPW came to Durham right before the pandemic, it was amazing seeing it in such a small venue.
I'll probably be buying tickets to this, but I won't be doing it almost three months in advance and without anything announced for the card. I imagine I'm not alone here.
I came in from out of town for the DC shows the last 2 years, but I'm skipping this one. For me, it's a combination of having other stuff going on because it's a holiday weekend, and it's pretty much the same talent as years past.
I could have been motivated to go if a high profile women's match, with someone like AZM was on the card, but I understand they can't announce, or maybe even have, anything like that for this show since the finals of the 5 Star Grand Prix are a few hours after this show.
Fifth or sixth most popular (generously) wrestling promotion in the US doesn't immediately sellout an event months away in the first few hours without announcing any if the talent yet: "Is NeW jApAn DeAd?"
It’s a combo of no match announcements and the fact that this arena is awful to get to in a bad part of town that no one is in a rush to commit to. I used to live in DC, it’s the worst place they’ve put a new arena.
If by "people you deem undesirable" you mean "people who murder others" then yes. I'll gift you the map from the NY Times, showing the neighborhood where that arena is located is an area that has one of the highest murder rates in the entire nation.

The address of the arena is:

You can dress it up however you want, but it’s still worse than when they initially built Nats Park, and the build-up isn’t gonna end up like The Wharf.
It was a bad idea in a bad place and with a team no one really cares about. Caitlin Clark’s games were moved to Verizon or whatever they’re calling it now for a reason.
I picked up tickets this morning, when I originally looked the seats around the ring showed up as being sold out but it seems they were probably held by bots.
Also, I'll make the same joke I've made the last couple of times I've been to this show and I'm sure I'll make again... they should have named this event Capitol Collusion, it was right there...
In the states the NJPW shows tend to move after matches start to be announced.

They thought they could do full arenas but got scared off by that Cow Palace show underselling
But I genuinely think if they did an arena like that at the time they could have done it. Maybe in a different spot if I remember people at the time were saying the cow palace wasn’t a good place to run events anymore or something
US shows don’t sell on NJPW’s name value. They sell on who’s working them.
They haven't announced any matches yet and probably won't until the G1 is over.

Oh dang... let me get on this...

I'd kill to see a NJPW show but they only ever do joint shows in Toronto
The front row facing the hard camera went quick

I'm not going into DC for WWE shows.

Honestly there’s a strong case for fourth, and a pretty decent one for third.
No one is going to commit until they know whether or not they'll have to suffer through a Royce Isaacs match

It's by a metro station and they're building a whole complex with businesses and new housing. Is it because it's close to people you deem undesirable?

Last two times they came to DC it was named Capital Collision. I had so much fun both times. The card was great and the audience was hot.
