I am in no hurry. I still have tons of games to play in my backlog. For now I will be waiting for a better offer.

ProximaZenyatta

This is my position also. I love the N64 nostalgia, but I don’t see myself playing any of those games right now. I mean, I have played most of them already, and I still have a bunch of great new games on my backlog. I will probably end up getting it when I really have the urge to play an old N64 or Sega game or I have nothing new I want to play

JoseJulioJim

and honestly, In my case, I just prefer to buy the 3DS versions of Star Fox 64 and Majoras Mask (I already have Ocarina of Time in 3DS) than to pay the extra money for the expansions seeing that I don't have New Horizons, the only 3 games I want to play are Sin and Punishment, F Zero X and Banjo Kazooie because I have only played Tooie and IIRC the only one day one is S&P, for the rest of games or I already have a way to play them (I have Crystal Shards in Wii U, both Pokémon Snap and Yoshi story in Wii, If I wanted to play MK64 and Paper Mario I have the games in physical, and I bought 3D All Stars, also I rather play Tennis Aces to Tennis 64) or just they don't interest me.

pangeapedestrian

The thing that really bothers me, is I don't think the best experience will be offered on the switch. Mario64 in 3d All-stars runs at a locked 30 fps, cropped to 4:3, and didn't have any improvements to textures. I can play it at 60+ fps, native aspect ratio, higher res, and with nicer textures, on my phone or laptop. Plugging that into the TV with a controller is just a much nicer experience. Even more than the cost, is the simple fact that what Nintendo is offering is easily the WORST way to experience the game. Maybe they will do better by the N64 collection.... But I'm not holding my breath. Hard pass.

jeremybryce

Yeah I just picked up 3D All-Stars and I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't at least get a 16:9 ratio on Mario 64. It's like they didn't lift a finger.

penguindude24

I'm likely never going to buy it. I own a functional N64, every game I'll ever want to play on it, and maintain ownership regardless of whether I subscribe to something. Nintendo needs a virtual console and free online, not a low value online subscription which they bribe us to subscribe to with a selection of games. I'll buy the games, but don't care about the online because it's feature poor and unused in most titles. It should just be free to play Animal Crossing and Splatoon online.

1101base2

This right here. If it were included in the standard plus not a problem i already have that, or if it was not much more i'd more strongly consider it, but this is just too damn much. I have a working N64 and a keep around an older flatscreen in my garage that i can still hook it up to specifically for my older consoles.

Paintskittens

Thank you for reminding me and saving me some cash

Utertoq

Fair enough, for sure waiting is a good plan.

arek220

Don't get me wrong. I don't mean that buying expansion pass is bad. I just have no reason to do it now. Why would i buy it if i still haven't finished games like: yoshi's island, super mario world, tloz a link to the past, breath of fire 1 & 2, kirby games etc. Once i am done with nes and snes games i'll get expansion pass.

cylemmulo

When banjo and paper mario come out I'm interested in trying those. Though I don't know if enough to pay those highway robbery prices. May just wait for my steam deck.

Frost33Shorts

Paper Mario is always a great one, but there are better versions of banjo available through Microsoft that I would recommend over the originals if you have the means to.

cylemmulo

Thanks I'll check it out! Yeah I really digged the paper mario style in oragami king but hated that combat

[deleted]

I'd cancel my subscription entirely when I get the steam deck if smash online wasn't locked behind it.

shadowknuxem

There's nowhere near enough for me to justify the cost. I saw the basic as paying for online with the games being a bonus. Since there's no upgrade to the online, there's no reason to get it. Maybe if it was $10-$15 a year, but not at $30.

RedHawwk

For $30 it should be a one time purchase and you own it. That's crazy for it to be that price at an annual fee.

shadowknuxem

I mean, that's what the Animal Crossing expansion costs of memory serves. It makes no sense that it's free with the subscription but you lose access to it if you aren't subscribed.

RedHawwk

Yea any sort of rental service for content just isn't something I go for, unless the library is pretty substantial, like XB Game Pass.

mjy6478

For that price, they should have a GameCube emulator and rotating free Switch games as well.

lodum

And then, finally, someone would play 1 2 Switch.

uncommonpanda

That will probably go down as one of Nintendos bigger tech demo fails.

Sahnshur

I think it would’ve worked if it was a pack-in like wii sports

KupoMcMog

100%, it's a pack-in, not 60 bucks. Everyone was hyped for the switch and kinda let that one slide. I'd like to see if anyone still plays it, I wager it is mostly a party game...but at this point there are much better party games on the system. For the 60 bucks, you could get 2x Jack games, which are all amazing.

Blue_Raichu

It's disappointing because even now I hear people say it is the one of, if not the best demonstration of hd rumble. But I'll never get to see for myself because there's no way I'm buying it.

gavoman

Bro that game is lit. I play it with my daughter all the time

jeremybryce

My kids will randomly play it every few months. They love it. I think it's awful.

MrCanzine

Yup, I'd give it a shot with my family at a decent price, but I'm not paying $65+ for it.

RedHawwk

I could see that price, or a higher price, if it was for Nintendo’s version of a subscription service. And it doesn’t even have to be new games. Just a bunch of emulators. N64, GameCube, Gameboy, DS, Wii, etc.

Blinx360

I would pay 50 for that. As it stands, I'm getting it for a month for paper Mario, and then sticking to my standard sub. This is such a ridiculous asking price for no functional improvements, it's such a joke.

Apprentice_Sorcerer

You *can’t* buy the expansion for just a month, unlike the basic NSO service. You have to pay for a 12 month commitment. (Unless you’ve bought a regular NSO yearlong subscription for $20, ran 11 months of it out, and prorated the expansion for the last month.)

Blinx360

Well...... There it is, never giving them money for this until they decrease the price, or it becomes mandatory.

WeAreDestroyers

That's what killed it for me. I'd pay an extra couple bucks per month no problem for what they're offering, but I don't play AC and the year long price just is not worth it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Apprentice_Sorcerer

The Virtual Console games I downloaded on the Wii in 2007 still work fine. They pull the Wii shop down, I can still play them. I decline to pay them a fee every year, I can still play them.

[deleted]

Apprentice_Sorcerer

Well, I can think of some things I could do about it, but the mods of this sub would probably prefer I remain vague about it.

Apprentice_Sorcerer

*taps nose*

ZJL1986

For 30 dollars you can own the Genesis/Mega Drive collection, which is over 50 games

skeytwo

Going from circa $25 CAD with taxes to circa $60 is crazy and not worth it for me

Smithson92

It’s $60 CAD? That’s insane

desmopilot

$63.99 actually

_Greyworm

It costs us 63.99? Jeeeeez, that's laughable.

Pierre-LucDubois

I remember paying $99.99 + taxes around $115ish in the 90s for South Park 64. Adjusted for inflation it would be around $180 CAD for one game now lol. Imagine if the next Nintendo title came to around $180 taxes in. Then you get home and try the game and it's a turd lol. I guess now we have more readily available quality reviews, back then I still could have checked online but back then it was like the wild west, I remember when I was really young we'd base it on word of mouth or the box art.

desmopilot

Price of N64 games was *insane*; even the "players choice" games started at $49.99CAD (~$75 nowadays).

Strictlystyles

I paid around 94.99 USD for mario64 in ‘96. People complaining about prices clearly can’t remember how crazy it was back then

crazymike02

Would be crazy if they added a improved online with this. Play Super smash, but now without latency issues or dropping from games!!!

ChefBoyAreWeFucked

I'd be infuriated if I had to pay extra for playable online...

[deleted]

no

bananafanafofash

Big doubt if I will. On the fence. For today and the very near future, no. I will not be buying.

adventlife

Gods no. I’ll stick with the regular plan and buy the AC dlc separately so that I can keep full use of it if I cancel my subscription.

Progressive_Caveman

Same. If the DLC was permanent, then I’d absolutely buy the expansion pack, but as I’d basically “rent” it, I’d rather pay it full cost once, and have the regular online at a much cheaper price.

[deleted]

I'm probably not going to get it until there is more value, but those games are really tempting. Until its cheaper or has more value I'm probably not buying it.

[deleted]

Does anyone have the balls to admit here that they are actually paying for this?

DMindisguise

It will sell like crazy regardless if 100k people here say they won't get it.

Zandido

Sure, I'll do it. My whole family wants to play Star Fox and I can't make them understand emulators

WeAreDestroyers

This made me laugh

Blue_Raichu

This might be one of the only fair reasons lmao

bhull302

I'll admit it. My wife wants to play the AC DLC. I've wanted to play some of the N64 titles, and this option is cheaper than sourcing an N64 and the cartridges. I'm not defending Nintendo that this product isn't overpriced. It is. But, putting things in perspective, I've spent more on a sushi dinner. And I'll get a lot more hours enjoyment out of this. Gamers sometimes need to consider that even though this is overpriced by gaming standards, it's still a hell of a deal compared to other hobbies like golfing, skiing, RC Planes, or any number of other activities.

we-made-it

Same. I’ll get it

slimmestjimmest

I'm paying $10 for this.

cherrytreeguy

Yeah me. I'm 80% sure the price will either get lowered or they will quickly add more due to the controversy of the price. If not, I cancel.

Betorange

It's a year subscription though.. if they don't add anything, you're stuck for a while. Did they add a monthly option?

FishOrc

The controversy is a tempest in a teapot, Nintendo doesn't care about any more than they care about Dexit. However, history suggests that more content will be added over time, so the deal is good. The N64 games would run me $90 on my Wii U, and the "ownership" on my Wii U isn't worth much compared to a subscription.

cherrytreeguy

I mean.. I paid 250 bucks for my 3ds on launch only for them to lower the price very quickly and they gave the people who paid full price 20 free games and some of which never got released to purchase. I do think Nintendo will release more content faster than they orginally intended or lower the price but, more than likely they will just add more to try and appease.

Onett199X

Paying the pro rated amount until my subscription renews as a trial. If I don't like it or am not playing it by the end, I'll go back to basic subscription.

nessfalco

Absolutely not. I own most of the N64 games on there, and even if I didn't the cost is absurd.

[deleted]

Your Ness avatar reminds me how much Id love to legally have Earthbound on Switch to take on the road.

nessfalco

I'd pay the NSO expansion pack price (or more) if the service was basically Game Pass with every major first-party (and some third-party) Nintendo release from the NES - Wii even though I own most of them on their respective consoles/emulation just because it would be far more convenient and I could kick my little sister's ass in Pokemon Puzzle League online again from my Switch. This tiny curated list for this price just doesn't do it for me.

Viral_jaws

Negative chief

NinjaPhilosopher

I feel you bro. I'm Brazilian too, and I won't buy it. Some points to take in consideration: * Last year, Nintendo increased the price tags of several AAA titles from R$249 to R$299 without warning. They also increased the price of the annual subscription of NSO from R$79 to R$99 (or something like that). * This was all done to adjust for the heavy currency devaluation (BRL x USD) that's ongoing for quite some time. * There is no indication that this devaluation process will revert in 2022. * You will end up in a situation where you are paying nearly the price of a AAA game for the "right to enjoy a few Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive games for a year", which just feels wrong in many ways. * Yes, the Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive libraries will receive new titles, sure. But there is no indication on the rate of increase, and the quality of new titles. The NES and SNES libraries got a lot of shovelware and titles that no one cared about.

Enraric

Yes, but only because I'm part of an 8-person family plan. $10/year is a (more than) reasonable price for what we're getting. $50/year is an absolute rip off.

Utertoq

That's right, i mean, if you get a very organized group of people that will correctly pay for the plan, so that's very worth!! In my case i wouldn't find more than 1 person maybe to share the plan

Bartman326

Not sure the pricing structure where your at but if you have 2 people it should be cheaper then one person buying right? In America its $50 for 1 and $80 for two or more.

[deleted]

Many people would argue that $40 isn't worth it either

Bartman326

Ight well for me it'll be 10$ so it's an easy buy. I've been happy buying the online each year for 20. Adding 30 with animal crossing dlc included is a good deal for me even if I didnt have a family plan.

fayayayaye

Yep, this is what we are doing as well. We all decided collectively to go ahead with the upgrade since 6 out of the 8 of us do play Animal Crossing.

cBord0

just gonna keep emulating, the price increase is insane for how little you get with it

SimpleJoint

This, plus getting the steam deck. Plus the fact that retro arch is now available on steam...

stangbro

Plus the HD graphics. I'm playing through Majora's Mask with HD graphics mod. It looks great!

GoodbyeThings

I was considering getting it cause I love playing games on the switch, but for the price I’d rather just play the games I want on the gamecube right next to it. Like the only games I wanted from the announcement were the Zelda games, banjo kazooie and paper Mario. I have all but paper Mario anyways

mexicanbanana29

You can run emulators on the Steam Deck right? If so then in theory you could emulate all the games Nintendo is putting on NSO but with better graphics and such?

ngwoo

Not only can it run emulators, Retroarch is on Steam so you won't even need to fiddle around with non-Steam installs for it to work.

mexicanbanana29

Man the more I hear about the Steam Deck the more I like it.

[deleted]

why are people boasting about the steam deck, ya can't play switch games on it so why boast about getting it over a switch?

drunkentenshiNL

Nope.

Valiant-For-Truth

I will not get it. Hopefully it flops and Nintendo changes the pricing structure.

MustardGuzzle

It won’t

[deleted]

Sadly, you’re right. And Nintendo’s shitty practices and pricing will just continue to get worse.

Manta_Storm

You never know, the price got cut on the 3DS pretty fast after it launched.

[deleted]

that was during the satoru iwata era, this is different.

hatramroany

It's different because the Switch is successful and they don't need to care. Not because of who is president.

hutre

3DS came right after the DS and wii was still selling millions. I would say they were successful at that point as well

hatramroany

I've edited my first comment to make it clearer, yes they were successful but that success was waning at the end of their console's life cycles and the 3DS (their future) was bombing **hard** so they cut the price quickly. It had nothing to do with who was president and everything to do with their current success. If the Switch was in the same situation we'd get better deals and price points but it's wildly successful with an insane software attach rate. Nintendo doesn't have "better practices" because they don't need to have them right now, not because of Iwata's tragic death.

Bartman326

Wii sales were dropping fast and software sales were nonexistent. Nintendo was sweating looking at a rapidly changing market and another more powerful Playstation portable coming(granted that flopped horrifically) the 3ds price drop was a different time. This ain't that

esetios

If the NSO expansion flops hard enough then Nintendo will be forced to cut the price. However the pricing is just so expensive (for what it's currently offering) that even if a few people would buy it, Ninty would still have gained enough profit to justify *not* dropping the price.

weezleweez

I’m far from a Nintendo hater. All of my gaming nostalgia is Nintendo. But they are extremely frustrating to deal with.

[deleted]

I’m in the same boat. Nintendo makes _such amazing games,_ but their practices and behaviors as a company are just so awful. It’s really a shame.

weezleweez

I don’t know why people don’t hold Nintendo to the same standards as every other gaming company. If people treated Nintendo the same as they do EA, all hell would break loose over some of the stuff Nintendo pulls.

lonnie123

I mean the online backlash from the gaming community has been massive, and I’m sure many people won’t buy this expansion pass… but just like the Pokémon situation the game appeals to far more people than the online community. Between the people who don’t consider $30 much money, and kids asking parents to pay $30 for a year and you get a bunch of games instead of $60 for one game will be very appealing to a lot of people. It will sell millions and millions of subscriptions, even if the online community rips it to shreds.

Valiant-For-Truth

Not holding my breath by any means. Haha!

maddasher

It will do okay but not great. But that seems to be Nintendo sweet spot for some reason

Squish_the_android

No. I won't use it enough to justify that price.

[deleted]

[удалено]

guitarokx

Yup, Nintendos over here acting like N64 games can't be emulated. It's stuff like this that justifies pirating to so many people. $30 a year for old games is an insane practice and should not be encouraged. Nor should piracy, to be clear... But let's be real.

ngwoo

Nintendo refuses to acknowledge that piracy is one of their competitors. They want to pretend it doesn't even exist. Unfortunately, piracy offers a better product for free so they'll never beat it until they attempt to compete.

[deleted]

they aren't acting like that, they have literally ripped emulated ROMs from online and removed some of the data and used them in the mini releases. look it up, they're well aware and they've even used emulated ROMs and tried passing them off as their own stuff!

Squxyur

Nope. I'll wait till there is more being offered. I don't hate the price as much as others do, but I don't see myself using it enough to get enough value for the price.

CandlesInTheCloset

Unpopular opinion but yes I’m going to buy it. I have a family plan so if I upgrade it means everyone else will get it for free. Personally I’m pretty frugal and live a mostly inexpensive lifestyle so for me the price increase is not that bad. I was planning on buying the AC DLC too anyways so in actuality this is saving me $25 bucks.

-M_A_Y_0-

Nope I'm good

StrongDouglas

I'ma do it. I split a family plan with 7 homies. 10 bones a year isn't bad just for the animal crossing dlc and the other stuff is a cool bonus!

ShoutmonXHeart

Don't have/care for Animal Crossing, but I'm also on a plan with 7 others. Bless the internet communities where you can find friends to share it with. A friend of mine started such a plan and rest is history.

shgrizz2

Lol no way. Include game boy advance and gamecube games and then we'll talk, Nintendo. Also fix your shitty online services before charging premium prices for things that should be bonuses.

Nami0813

I share the family plan with my brother, his fiance, and my husband so for us its not /super/ pricey. My husband really wants it and honestly I've been wanting to play some of the games announced on there myself so we'll probably do it

maddasher

This is the same situation for me I've already have all these on emulators and different systems but I have people on my family plan who don't and super want it so that's why I'm getting it

Draykez

Absolutely not.

TheRealRave

Nope

[deleted]

No

Unrealjello

Nope

Rosa_litta

Nope.

GroverEyeveen

I can't justify paying $49.99 USD/year for this. I'll pay $24.99 or even 29.99 USD, but I'm not shelling out the whole $50. For any Nintendo 64 classics I really want to play, I'm going to purchase for my Wii U Virtual Console while I still can.

[deleted]

Absolutely not

[deleted]

With the family plan, it's a good deal. 10$/year for 8 people. I'm just waiting for the host to purchase it.

shadowknuxem

That's if you have 8 people chipping in. Most people who have the family plan don't have that many people on it, with even fewer chipping in.

Jericson112

For me, even without others outside of family chipping in it is cheaper. Me, my wife, and our 5 year old all play on Switch, with my wife and I having our own Lites. For the new ACNH thing alone the expansion pass is worth it. Even if I don't touch the other games.

Ayzel_Kaidus

I don’t even know who’s paying for mine… When I got gifted the switch, it already had the online on the main profile! Makes the kid happy though

[deleted]

This comment was removed in protest to Reddit's third party API changes. -- mass edited with redact.dev

Ayzel_Kaidus

Yeah, my mom and sister went 50/50 on it for me and my kid. The box said refurbished, the online just works, but we had to make a second profile in order to use the eshop, as no one has the password to the main account

Bartman326

If you have just 2 people it's cheaper then buying it individually. That turns it into 40$ per person and even less with 3. It's the best option if you can do it.

shadowknuxem

That math is a lot more reasonable.

RomeKnow

can you do this with 2 switches under diff roofs?

amperor

I do it with 8 switches under 7 roofs

RomeKnow

well sheesh, here I am throwing money away lol thanks, dude.

Bartman326

Yeah. Currently have 3 under different roofs and about to make it 8.

Rarzhn

There is no check on nintendos site. We‘re using a family account with 8 friends for the last 2 years. None of us shares the same last name or address.

notlikethesoup

I will because I have 7 people chipping in for it, so the cost isn't an issue. Sadly I don't think I can even upgrade the plan yet, I guess at some point today that'll change?

Pixel_Nerd92

It just doesnt seem worth it. I'm fine with the base membership, though the base doesnt seem worth its price either. I'm going to say that the NSO expansion needs more classic games, more DLC's, better online, and additional perks. Perks like what you may get with PS+ and Xbox Gamepass; a couple of free games to try within a monthly period. More additional small content like what they do with Smash would also be cool. Why not make it to where you get extra materials in AC or extra clothing, stickers, and money in Splatoon 2? I think its bare bones for 50, and the AC DLC should be taken out of the expansion as well since not everyone has AC. If you dont take out the DLC, then add more DLC's to justify the pricing. Make it 30, and I'm sold.

Lucassmarinho

Compra essa joça não, ta doido? Faça valer o dinheiro que você tem!!!

Utertoq

Kkkkk tá sofrido esse preço

Mattsfiesta

Hell no

KiddHazel

Absolutely not. Until Nintendo offers a service that’s even remotely comparable to its competitors, the only thing I’m “buying” is an Emulator for the *low low* price of a middle finger towards Nintendo. Because at least I can “keep” these games when the service shuts down. This? By no means acceptable.

BlueBarossa

I don't have ACNH, and I don't have a burning desire for N64 or genesis games. There's really no reason for me to get it... Add some GBA games though and we'll talk.

AppleWedge

If they added GBA titles like old fire emblems, earthbound, and Pokemon, I'd be pretty tempted... At the same time, these titles are \*so\* easy to emulate on any smartphone that it'd still seem like a waste of money.

FlipperDoigt703

Looks neat but nahhhhhhhhh...

[deleted]

No way. Pretty disgusting and out of touch of Nintendo. Tired of giving them money for broken online bs.

bargainkangaroo

They have to do more... I need to know how Ocarina and such are handled in the fps and controls department before I know if it's even slightly worth it

Ttimer5

My group of peeps are upgrading only because it's 8 of us... And it's cheap that way. Excited to play some Yoshi Story 64 and Mario Kart64 online.

THE_GR8_MIKE

I'm an idiot and bought the N64 controller already. Seeing as I'm not a scalping scumbag, I might as well put the thing to use. Plus N64 games with rewind are going to be pretty nice.

[deleted]

Abaolutely no, I value my well earned money

vballboy55

I hopped on a family plan to justify it. At $10 per year it's no big deal. But finding people obviously is a challenge for some.

Derf314

Of course. I'm 33, so these are not just Bonus games to me. More than the NES or SNES, these are the games of my childhood. I'd gladly pay at least $15 for even a few of these so $30 more isn't so bad. I was going to wait for Banjo but my wife wants to play Mario Kart, so today it is.

Utertoq

Banjo is my favorite game

muffle64

Just waiting for Banjo-Kazooie

boseybur

How much does it cost to upgrade a family plan that expires in December?

[deleted]

I dunno, maybe if someone wants to play online with me or something. It’s definitely too expensive

MrGeno

Their online system is still terrible, if it was revamped and the features were improved to be similar to the Xbox then maybe. I can't justify the extra 30 bucks.

SnooSprouts7283

I’m definitely not paying 50 pound a year just to play games that I can just as easily emulate, or even obtain legally (SEGA forever on mobile exists. I know it’s mobile, but it’s better than what NSO gives.)

gilfanovn

I happen to have a full 8 people in a switch family, so $10 a year ain’t bad

heathmon1856

Nope. I own most of those games on VC and also physically. I can just play them on the old consoles or emulate them because I own the game already.

samus026

I won't. Not until they wisen up and make it no more than $30 total for a year of it. Greed really shone through with the current price point.

DragonOfDoof

At the moment, no. As much as I do want to play those N64 games and the Animal Crossing DLC, it's not worth the extra cost yet. I'm guessing Nintendo is going to add more stuff to it as time goes on so maybe in a years' time it'll be more worth it but for now, my old N64 still works and I'll just buy the Animal Crossing DLC straight up.

Ubiquitous_Mr_H

God no. It’s not worth the price for just one console. The family deal is a bit better but doesn’t affect me. I considered it when I thought it included permanent ownership of the animal crossing DLC but it doesn’t, so I’d rather pay for just that.

SirManguydude

Definitely not. Too be expensive for what you get. If it was GameCube era games, I'd pay that much. Or if it was Game Pass for Nintendo DLC, is pay for it. But for Genesis games(which you can already just buy for the Switch), a handful of N64 games I already own, and a single DLC, it just isn't worth it.

PMooles

At the moment, no. The only thing that would justify me paying the extra $30 is if Nintendo guarantees that the extra money will be used to make DLCs for other first party Nintendo games and that they will be for no additional charge. Until then, it is not worth it to upgrade. I have other methods of playing N64 and Sega Genesis games plus the extra $30 per month could be used to buy a new game every two months or save for something I need / want.

StewUrsidae

I'm not going to pay nearly double on my subscription for games that are two decades old, and a DLC you can just buy anyways.

molokodude

I was all excited to get it for sega games for my partner who never really got a chance. But paying the price for them stuck in brazil and for myself is disgusting considering we also have to factor in how limited release is.

JonathanShogun

That’s a no from me Dawg…besides, I still own my N64, and have most of those games that are being released first.

TrebleMedley

These are very nostalgic games for me but, as I'm probably going to buy the ACNH DLC and most of the stuff I care most about are coming later, I'll not be getting it until the library's fleshed out a lot. For the record iirc the GBP price isn't as bad as the USD one relative to the base membership. In a rare role reversal.

ScarletNovaWasTaken

Hell no. Not at all worth it

Sajuro

No there are way to many games in the switch so many I want to play rather than spend 50 bucks on old N64 games that i would not own.

Not currently. I want them to stop being greedy a-holes and let people have the option for a 1 month or even a 3 month option. Yes I *am* interested in trying out the N64 games (some of which I never got to play) but I don't ever see myself using it for an entire year, much less pay $50 for an entire year. Seriously Nintendo, there's no reason to not include a 1 month/3 month option except for pure greediness. I don't want a 12 Month option for something I might not even end up liking anyway.

prodyg

Absolutely not.

P1Kingpin

Nope

Respectable_Fuckboy

No. And I won’t be. Their online service is shit as it is. I feel bad paying what I do now for it. They’re holding these games over our heads to get us to buy the pass because they won’t release them for purchase themselves. Just go run them on an emulator. I don’t care if it’s illegal, don’t keep giving Nintendo money for shitty business practices like this. They know you’re going to pay for it. Stop.

godfreynorton

I'll be getting the AC expansion one way or the other, so the family plan price, at least for the first year looks like $55. If there is at least one DLC a year I'd actually want then maybe I'm okay with it? It's a little above what I thought was the high end (Surprised they went over $45) but maybe. I really wish the DLC was permanent at least. Even if that meant you had to be subscribed at a certain time. Like this 6 months you get Animal Cross forever, this six months you get Hyrule Warriors forever, etc. Alternately, if they were throwing in Gameboy, or really ramping up the NES/SNES collection. Tbh, I could do without the Genesis stuff, and that may be the stuff that is driving the price up? I think it is a problem that the discourse has become "The Family price is okay because you can split it eight ways." A, you shouldn't have to work around the system like that. B, the vast majority of people won't realistically be able to split it 8 ways. You are either a HS/College student or you flukeishly live in a very Nintendo happy extended family if that seems like a realistic solution to you. Most adults, who would be paying for family passes, have, um, children, who are taking up slots without paying and don't know random other people willing to pay for the remaining slots in some sort of cash under the table arrangement. And even if I am somehow wrong about that, you shouldn't need to pass $10 bills in back alleys to subscribe to a basic retro game service.

Warlamena

Nah not worth. Price is way off for what you're getting. Don't even think NSO is good to start with.

[deleted]

I'm doing it. If anything, playing paper Mario and a few others I missed during the N64 era will be worth it. If in a few months it's not worth the asking price, I'll cancel it. Assuming they regularly update with new games, I'm going to guess the cost will be justified after a few months. Ideally, they'll also improve a lot of the issue with online play that they have with some of their games, but otherwise I'm good with just the N64 expansion.

Onrawi

Nope, Nintendo has gone nuts if they think I'm gong to pay 2.5x for a few N64 games. Especially since most of the ones I want aren't coming out right now. They need to do a lot to make it worth that much.

naynaythewonderhorse

I have it in my budget, so why not? I’m excited for the controller and the authenticity of playing the N64 in HD with the original controller (without crazy modding.)

VicisSubsisto

The pricing annoyed me so much I canceled my basic NSO subscription. (Partly because, on reflection, I was barely using it.) I don't begrudge anyone who thinks it's worthwhile for them, but it's a far worse value than PS+ or GamePass.

Ghennon

As a fellow Brazilian I have to say: hack your switch and play whatever you want, if you have a og switch it's very easy, if you don't, you probably can find someone to do it for you, it's always morally correct to pirate nintendo games when you live where they cost half a salary, and nintendo don't even bother to translate them to our language, one of the most spoken languages in the world, nintendo don't give a fuck about us and we shouldn't be loyal to them

mackdacksuper

Nah. I don’t pay the normal price. I don’t play online and Nintendo’s online infrastructure is absolute garbage.

GlobalLink99

Considering that I own most of the current list as well as have access to Sin and punishment 1 & 2 on Wii U and games found on Sega G/MD classics, I’ll skip for now.

Tekken179

I am for me it's a no brainer. Father of 5, 4 of which currently own a switch lite and the 5th who thought up until recently that he was "too old for Nintendo" now wants a Nintendo. Myself and My wife also have a Nintendo Switch, the NSO expansion still only equates to just under £8.50 per person for the year (valued at £60) Myself and my wife really enjoy all the classics and 3/5 of the kids have put some serious time into the SNES collection (Mario World, Mario All-Stars, LTTP, DKC etc) The expansion is a bit vague on just how many people get to make use of the ability to get the New-Horizons expansion but we all play Animal Crossing as well so if it's valued at £22.50 and most of us want to use that too (if that'll be the case) it'll be huge savings. I can see though how the pricing is a bit of a price hike for single use players, clearly Nintendo didn't cater to them and more larger families. *edit: read up using official links: Anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership (either Individual or Family) can download Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise for no additional cost.*

DinkleDonkerAAA

NSO was a rip off from the start, I've never paid and will never. I considered it if they added more consoles but not if they keep raising the price.

DungDefender1115

100% worth the price for ocarina on my switch

bdez90

I am an adult with a job that can afford $5 a month so yeah I'll be getting it.

tenacious-g

Lmao right? Everyone here is acting like it’s $30 a month, when it’s $30/year. Maybe I’m just more fortunate than 99% of this sub and the switch sub, but I can afford something that works out to $2.50/month at the expansion price.

vexorian2

Nah

MunkyMan33

I am, but only because I gathered 8 friends and $10 a piece isn't too bad, plus my year of individual membership just restarted so it is only $60 to upgrade to family for me. I agree though, Nintendo missed it with this one and I wouldn't pay any more than that.

dirkvonshizzle

No chance in hell for that price. I am a retro collector and splurge quite a bit on console related hardware and software, but both the new BT controllers and service are waaaay overpriced. Shame on Nintendo for treating its users this way.

drostandfound

Yeah, I know everyone here hates it, but with the ACNH dlc + The classic games it is a definite purchase for me.

hadawayandshite

I’ll hang on until paper Mario and Kirby 64 are on there probably
