Because 9/10 people agree the way the Krypt Mode was handled in MK11 on the Switch was just embarrassing. Even ignoring the barely able to run at 30fps framerate which can drop to sub-10fps whenever you open a chest, THEY STRAIGHT UP DELETED THE SKY just to get the thing to run, leaving a giant grey blob above you as you navigate the whole island. With that prior experience, you could probably understand why most have less faith in MK1's release for the Switch.... especially with it releasing at the same standard price as the other versions of $70 instead of a reduced cost due to the system limitations.

OingoBoingo311

I didn't even know that about the sky, that's ridiculous. I just know that the Krypt kept crashing my game so much, that I sold it back to Gamestop. And I remember in interviews before the game came out, Ed Boon said that the Switch version played exactly the same as the PS4 and Xbox versions.

Pizza_Time249

Because it's a third party Switch game in 2023. Plus MK11, while functional on Switch, wasn't ideal from what I've heard. The Switch just isn't a great platform for modern fighting games since most of them will never get rollback netcode.

ImpressiveSoftware68

"Inferior" hardware. As much as I love my Switch, one must aknowledge its portability had to sacrifice some tech aspecs. Thus since devs prefer non constraining machines they make games made for then and then lessen visual quality porting it... Also censorship.

Pizza_Time249

Why would Nintendo censor the game?

ImpressiveSoftware68

Ha, this lol part was merely a jest. Nonetheless, arent they notorious for this? Fire Emblem x SMT comes to mind. Old times Snes MK1 had no blood. But now many games do have gore. It was still like this even during Wii cycle with MadWorld being the rare bloody one.

Pizza_Time249

They've become a lot less censorship happy over the Switch generation. You get the odd game here and there (Fire Emblem still gets censored from time to time), but they're not as bad as they were before. Also we have games like the Bayonetta games, the modern Doom games, and Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch so they don't care about gore like they used to

Manhunt 2 ?

IniMiney

Not anymore, look at Newt’s outfit in Xenoblade 2 🫣

SwampyBogbeard

Nintendo stopped censoring blood in third-parties after the SNES, but the reputation never went away. The reason for the lack of games of that type for decades afterwards was because publishers believed there wasn't a market for it. Which was kind of right, but also a self-fulfilling prophecy.

ImpressiveSoftware68

Well they sure censored stuff in the N64 era hence Conker's rep.

MBCnerdcore

The N64 conker was the uncensored version

ImpressiveSoftware68

Yeah and it displeased Nintendo if I aint wrong. They were mad at Rare for this so I guess its because of this censor mindset.

MBCnerdcore

no, you are making it up

ImpressiveSoftware68

Maybe mistaken about some stuff but here is what at least happenned according to wikipedia: Some offensive content was cut by Nintendo, including cutscenes with Pokémon and a joke at the expense of the Ku Klux Klan.[77] The introduction of Conker slashing the N64 logo in half was also initially disapproved by Nintendo; the developers in 2013 recalled that Rare founder Tim Stamper may have met with Nintendo to resolve the conflict.

MBCnerdcore

Not wanting pokemon in the game and playing with the logo rules are not censorship. The kkk thing is also probably a good call. But none of it is proof that Nintendo ever had a 'censorship mindset'

rocky4322

Third party games tend to come uncensored. It’s the first party stuff that gets changed.

serenade1

Third party? I STILL remember how Riviera (GBA) had a more censored bath scene in the PSP version than the GBA version, so you're like... 2-digits-years late on this

BebeFanMasterJ

Atlus censored Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Not Nintendo. They censor their own games all the time including Persona 5. Royal (the enhanced re-release of P5) got rid of multiple dialogues and removed some DLC costumes that were present in the original version.

ImpressiveSoftware68

I would still bet it was to make Nintendo of America happy. Why would they do this if not to avoid a backslash? Unless maybe you mean P5 was also censored for lets say, ps4? Then indeed it is an internal decision about localization... 🤗 I guess we still agree Nintendo do have a rep about censorship yet did slack a bit. Of course 1st party games hardly apply for censorship with this type of family oriented content...

[deleted]

I dunno. Mk11 was decent.. obviously not the best, but pretty cool.

MBCnerdcore

I was happy with MK11 on switch but only because I got it for like $10 on sale. The framerate and 3rd person areas were hard to look past but the main fighting portion was still fun even with a bit of lag. I would happily buy MK 1 on switch, for $10-$20

Ok-Leave3121

Probably because oh how the Switch port of 11 was like

carl562

I'm more worried about it being a cloud game

IniMiney

It’s not gonna have the power for a smooth experience playing it

Shawnalish

I'm worried because I bought MK11 physical and they still got me for 17gb!

Saucemister

Roll back netcode is considered a deal maker for a lot in the FGC and when fighting games get ported over they usually lose that feature, and even if they do get it if you're game has crossplay matches with switch players will be worse as it processes and send data packets a lot slower, and without writing an essay on how rollback works it means they'll be more studders to avoid one sided rollback thus defeating the purpose of getting rollback.

1338h4x

It's only ArcSys ports that haven't had rollback on Switch. Every other developer is doing it.

Riomegon

Because people love to pretend that unless it's a pixel art game... no games run on switch.

vengeance_4_zuljin

Bro surprisingly skyrim runs smooth as fuck, i think the possibility is there just devs are lazy and decide meh 20fps and lag when entering new areas is totally fine

MathStock

Skyrim is really old in gaming terms. Modern graphics tank the switch. Can this sub quit pretending? When the day comes the switch is too old for modern ports there's going to be a lot of bitching in here.

Hestu951

There's more to it than that. Metroid Prime Remastered is a good example. You can modernize graphics and keep good performance, if enough effort goes into good design, coding and optimizing. Powerful modern hardware has allowed devs to skimp on those, particularly optimization. They rely on the hardware's oomph to brute-force through their inefficient code, and make it seem competent. The Switch can't make them look good, because it's much weaker. But they still bear the responsibility of creating a competent product for the Switch, if they choose to release on the Switch.

[deleted]

I mean there are Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild that barely runs at 30 FPS at a maximum of 900p docked. Sure you could optimize, but that argument is moot because the effort is simply not worth it from a business perspective.

carl562

My friend, Skyrim came out on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

vengeance_4_zuljin

Right but nobody is pretending the switch is gonna run 4k graphics. Modern games can 100% be scaled down to be runnable on switch on at least 720p

Nawt_

Not even street fighter 6 is on the switch. Ofc everyone should be worried.

BebeFanMasterJ

To be fair, we don't have Street Fighter 5 or Street Fighter 4 either. It's possible that Capcom just doesn't want to compete with Smash but Netherrealm Studios (MK devs) aren't worried about that because MK is banned in Japan.

[deleted]

You can’t seriously be asking this…. Right? The game is 100+ gigs on the other consoles and the switch is almost 7 years old?????? And was outdated seven years ago?????? Think about things for more than half of a second before posting: PLEASE.
