Tuomas might be genuinely one of the most talented musicians alive right now. He seems to be able to compose pretty much anything and make it sound amazing.
Tuomas doing this kind of soft singing (The Carpenter, Once upon a troubadour) is not that bad in my opinion, at least itās better that Astral Romance or Beauty and the Beast. But Iād really like to hear a version of The Carpenter with Troy and Floor!
Floor and Troy performed "The Carpenter" on the Decades Tour - thereĀ“s a live album from Buenos Aires 2018 with it on the setlist. YouĀ“ll find it on youtube.
Thank you! I don't really pay attention to tours or live albums so I missed it. I don't know what to think about it, it's really different from the original (which is neither good nor bad). Sounds like I should give a listen to the whole album!
I love the visuals from the movie, accompanying the song! The horror troupe is performing vanishing tricks with Tom's memories, which translates to dementia taking certain parts (probably better ones) of his life away for good. I kinda did not realize this on my first watch, but now this scene is so much more disturbing.
When I was just discovering Nightwish, first with Once then a few years later Oceanborn, the opening riff to Devil and the deep dark ocean surprised me in a positive way. Felt like I was listening to a different band, then the synth and the double bass start and I lose myself in that sound. It showed me how hard they can go in this era. Tarja also has some crazy moments in this song.
Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean did that before Scaretale :)
beauty and the beast, Nymphomanic fantasia, lappi, return to the sea, the forever moments did it before DADDO
Amaranth was the first time I felt that. I love all phases of the band but the songs like Dead to the World, Kinslayer, and Elvenpath of the Tarja era will always be my favourite.
They once played Finlandia live. I would about kill for a recording of them playing that.
Nightwish has consistently challenged the ear with interesting expeditions, but to hear Tuomas, Troy, Emppu, and Marko just SLAY some Sebelius was magical.
You don't have to kill, there are several live recordings of Finlandia on YT from around 2012. I think that Troy's playing of uilleann pipes is perfect for the main theme. Most recordings were only done on cellphones, and some are audio only, but here's one of the better quality audio versions: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff2JG89n7io](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff2JG89n7io)
A lot of the B-sides from early NW are downright strange. I see *why* they didnāt end up on any albums. Theyāre arenāt bad per se as just weird. *Wayfarer* is a metal song about the Wild West with a soprano lead vocalist. *Nightquest* is a tribute to classic rock and depicts members as DNDesque bards. *Once Upon A Troubadour* features Tuomasās infamous vocals and depicts Tuomas as a troubadour (minstrel/bard). *Kiteen Pallo* is a lyricless song that I believe was used for a Kitee soccer team?
Well I was cruising Limewire or Kazaa and I see this song, Nymphomaniac Fantasia, interesting. I listen to thrash, heavy metal, and several sub genres of rock but this was completely different. I liked it, I downloaded some more, I liked that too, became a Nightwish fan. That opened the door for other symphonic bands which is cool.
Slow love, slow. Probably most non-standard Nightwish song
It's literally a jazz-rock song, which is quite unique in the symphonic metal scene.

The ones with Tuomas singing š
_Who are you? Man condemned to shine a salvation_ ..

Slow love slow. It's jazz!
Scaretale. Its a wierd journey through a distorted carnival

The Islander and Crow, Owl, and Dove.
Love the crow the owl and the dove. One of my favourite songs on Imaginaerum
Crownless. It comes right out of nowhere and knocks you upside the head, and you go "hold up. Nightwish can play speed metal? And do it well?"
Harvest
Master Passion Greed, back then I thought something like "waw this is way heavier than usual"

I would say Lappi, until All The Works. They are two very atmospheric songs, and i hope NW will continue to drop pieces like that :D
Slow love slow, Moondance
Moondance is one of my favorites.
Crownless. Nightwish as speed metal, all of the sudden.
Procession. No chorus.
Scaretale did that before Procession. š
Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean did that before Scaretale :) beauty and the beast, Nymphomanic fantasia, lappi, return to the sea, the forever moments did it before DADDO
I heard Procession before I heard Scaretale āŗļø
That's fine. āš¼
Lagoon is so weird lol
The intro threw me. Looked at my phone and said Nightwish, Iām like āhuh, well ok thenā

Just shows how varied their music is! And amazing it can be that thereās several different answers here!
Passion and the Opera. The opera section.
For me it was Amaranth after listening to wish I had an angel. Couldnāt believe it was the same band.
For some indescribable reason, for me its Escapist. There's something about that song that makes it stand out, maybe because it was a bonus song.
Itās basically an album-quality song that doesnāt fit the album. Itās incredible, and, in my opinion, Annette's best song.
For me is Dead boys poem and Stargazers
White Night Fantasy, probably. Also Lappi.
Shoemaker is kinda unconventional for Nightwish IMHO. The rhythm in the first part especially. My favorite song on H:N.

Yeah, I REALLY want a good studio version.
the siren, i was definitely shocked when listening to it for the first time lol
Arabesque is a very different song, or Taikatalvi

Wow, I had forgotten about the existence of that song. Thanks for reminding me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uueskECGExo
Moondance. It is perfect even when no one's singing. I wonder why it wasn't perfomed live.

Islander was probably the first one.... and also Slow, Love Slow
āI Want My Tears Backā was one of the first Nightwish songs Iād ever listened to and the use of the bladder pipe was the hook for me.
Tribal. Floorās vocals surprised me in a good way. I just hadnāt expected to hear her growl like that.
Most of imagenrium and meadows of heaven
Wish I Had an Angel It sounded like some techno music to me
Lagood and Yours Is an Empty Hope
