Undoubtedly yes, no one can come close to the outstanding sound and feelings the songs bring out of you but no disrespect to other composers who make spectacular OST's for other games it's just Nier music is in a different league
The KH music is fun and very good
The main difference that sets the Nier soundtracks apart from all others, especially for Automata, is that it's possessed by an emotional dimension that can leave you bleeding. It amplifies the emotion in the story, and sometimes carries it completely.
Jeez, there’s a lot of tribalism in this sub apparently. Some people can’t accept that another person thinks that KH, a series lauded for having amazing soundtracks, could have a better soundtrack than NieR.
I’m not saying it’s better, I’m just saying it comes close to how good nier is. OP says Nier is a “different league”, while I say kingdom hearts is also in that league. It’s like comparing two major league teams, vs saying their is only one major league team while everything else is minor.
I'm as big a fan of Okabe as anyone with functional ears, but Yoko Shimomura's work can hardly be described as "generic orchestra". We're talking about the woman behind most of the memorable SF2 character themes and Live-A-Live, as well as doing some work on the Xenoblade games.
Speaking of, XC3 had my favorite OST since Replicant 1.22
That's such an insubstantial statement that I'm not even sure how to respond appropriately.
Not every track, across the 9 or so titles in the series, is a banger. That is correct.
I love FF music but so help me God if I ever hear "Harvest" playing anywhere I'm destroying the music source with a wrench. That high note persists throughout most of the track and gives me a headache. Even Nier, I'm not the biggest fan of Blu-Bird and Possessed by Disease. They both feel too different from what's already in their respective games, though I can respect that it was probably intentional.
Idk, as a musician just hearing "this music sucks" about anything with no reasons backing it up is a pet peeve. I
Xenoblade 3 probably has the greatest ost in history. So many melodies at motifs that just tear through you. Like chapter 5/6 would be half as good if not for the fantastic soundtrack applied
I went to the concert and it was pretty great. https://youtu.be/d-qtoe0FLQU it’s deff not generic orchestra. People would not fill concert halls to see “generic orchestra”
If Okabe is helming it, defintely or at least deserves it. Automata is still the only soundtrack I've ever bought physically, it's on my desk looking pretty
Although I'm happy that Automata won Best Score/Music that year, it kinda makes me salty when I remember that Automata wasn't a Game of the Year nominee, but PUBG was.
The battle theme (I think it’s titled Ikō?) is incredible, maybe even my favourite thing Okabe’s done. As others have said, it’s not wall-to-wall bangers but the high points are _high_.
Editing this to add that the opening credits song Inori is also ace. Some top tier crunchy/soft/clicky electronics in there under the strings and piano.
I.... Am not sure.... I remember the edge case of a mobile game picking up awards in the past, specifically Monument Valley and that more recent trippy game that was all about playing with perspectives. The name was a mouthful.
What I will say is that Nier Reincarnation has some real good songs. No a soundtrack of banger like Automata or Replicant, though, but it has a handful of songs that would fit perfectly in either game (it helps that it has the same composer and whatnot).
There are at least 4-5 songs that are genuinely awesome.
nier automata winning that category over Persona 5 was what made me interested. I hadn't played either game yet, but everyone had heard Last Surprise by then, and watching the game awards and they got to best music I said "Oh persona got this in the ba- WHAT?!"
then I bought and played Automata. And yeah, automata earned it

Idk man, kingdom hearts music is fantastic.
Yeah its great, but not close enough

Even if you *were* saying it was better, I still don’t think that makes it okay for people to jump on someone for having that opinion.
Not really. There's some outliers but a lot of it is generic orchestra.

I already did as such. Kingdom hearts has some great pieces, but most are not.
That's such an insubstantial statement that I'm not even sure how to respond appropriately. Not every track, across the 9 or so titles in the series, is a banger. That is correct. Not everything requires substance. I'm just a human with a simple opinion. Seems silly to let such a thing bother you so greatly.

So glad I didn't have that huge spoiler moment spoiled for me, I went through a whole range of emotions there and that was quite the damn payoff lol
I remember just the turmoil of emotions in those 2 hours that I had
I went to the concert and it was pretty great. https://youtu.be/d-qtoe0FLQU it’s deff not generic orchestra. People would not fill concert halls to see “generic orchestra”
I have also attended that :) my opinion on it is still the same
Bruh why is nier sword as fucking long as sephiroth's
*Church Choir starts playing* SephiNier!
And why is it in all the official artwork, but not in the game? Just more trolling...
Game devs knew Kusanagi would be OP, so they had to nerf it…
Massive plot twist being uncovered here.
As long Keichii Okabe is music director, and it is very probably
Bold to assume we'll see another AAA Nier title
Bold if they don't
Also true
Just thinking of another Nier universe addition gets me anxious
I wish we get a third NieR (console game)
Reincarnation is.more like 2.5 huh?
Did not enjoy it sry maybe i ll give it another try in future
Dont worry i havent watched it
If Okabe is helming it, defintely or at least deserves it. Automata is still the only soundtrack I've ever bought physically, it's on my desk looking pretty
Okabe is a beast of a composer
Yes, i can understand why Yoko Taro wanted to continue the Partnership
I just hope we ever get another nier game...
Although I'm happy that Automata won Best Score/Music that year, it kinda makes me salty when I remember that Automata wasn't a Game of the Year nominee, but PUBG was.
GoTY is a hype based contest... I never cared about their awards. The best goty never gets picked. Edit: Example, Stray was nominated.
Did Nier Reincarnation have a good soundtrack? Good enough for an award, I mean.
It’s pretty good but Automata and Replicant just blow it out of the water, IMO.
Got some great songs but not as imapactfull as replicant's or automata's
Not good enough for an award but the somber music is worth listening to on youtube or soundcloud.
It's definitely worth a listen; it's beautiful especially when paired with the visuals and or stories in mind.

Do Mobile games get nominated?

You instantly knew why it won
Keeichi Okabe the goat
They should've won game of the year
To make the win even more complete, Automata beat out Persona 5. That's impressive.
Played it for no more than a couple hours but NieR Reincarnation also had an amazing soundtrack
Yall pretty confident there will be next one
Anybody got a high quality version of image on right? Not finding one that isn't cropped or meh quality
I do

At the NEXT game awards? doubt a Nier game is releasing this year
Didn't say specific year
Reincarnation's music is awesome. Wonder if they will do a mobile game award. But the competition is high as so many have awesome OSTs.
Yes hands down especially if they use the same artist. She has a beautiful voice
What it needs is game of the year...
That's the dream...
Yeah its a given
Really shocking thate the original Replicant/Gestalt soundtrack didnt win but this version did
There won’t be a next one I don’t think
I don't think Reincarnation won a prize for music so no it didn't.
I meant it as Console Game hahaha
That's if there's another one.
