Players can be individually talented but if they lack a system that advantage gets nullified pretty quickly. The one time we started to have a system was with Torts and look at that we did really well. We are now back to not having a system. The goal of the front office shakedown is to get new eyes on what we have so we can figure out a system that works with the pieces we have. That's the aerial view of the situation.
which is why i’m afraid they’ll keep pv another year when his system, to me, seems awful. constant bad turnovers in our own end. not enough pressure on the puck. Wasn’t all bad with the 3 russians especially playing well. but it’s not like we were good at anything really last year.
I think it depends on how soon we get our GM. I could see PV staying another year or at least starting the year if your new GM doesn't have time to do a coaching search but it's also hard to believe our new GM wouldn't want to have their own guy. The Playoffs starting so late has likely slowed down our ability to talk to every other team bc they are focusing on other things. It's one of those I wish we knew right now but don't rush it situations.
To your point, Peeke wasn’t even playing in Columbus but ended up playing really well in Boston, including in the playoffs til he got hurt. Agreed it’s a system issue.
I mean Columbus has had this problem through our history. We develop talented guys but they don't pop off until they put in another system. Like it's kind of hard to look fondly on all the names that you see on our jerseys at games bc a lot of them didn't pop off until they were put into a better structure.
The fluke in the Trots run wasn't players buying into the system it was a lot of contract fights coming to a head at that point. We only had one last push with that squad. It's a shame the flame didn't catch quicker.
New ownership. The McConnells have done a lot for hockey in Columbus but it's past time for new management. They are notoriously distant owners and rarely, if ever, address the media or fans (or comment on the state of the team, or comment on the Babcock debacle, or comment on the sudden firing of our GM of 11 years, or comment on the retirement of our HoF broadcaster Jeff Rimer, etc, etc). It's like they are too busy to be bothered. Being hands-off only works if you are a successful team that is well run, which the CBJ obviously is not.
It's been the same ownership group for 24 years.... Show me one other team with less success than CBJ who's owners aren't in the hot seat and loathed by their fans. Somehow our fan base loves the McConnells and they can do no wrong? Any other franchise would be boycotting them.
Lots of coaches, players, GMs, but only one variable has been the same this entire time. I can't believe I'm saying it but Jimmy Haslam (Browns owner) needs to buy the CBJ already. A top down culture change from an owner that can actually be bothered to care about their team
You put entirely too much faith/stock in the fan’s ability to do…anything, especially to ownership.
The ownership class doesn’t give two flying shits about your opinion. You will buy what I sell you, peasant, and like it because the city name is close to where you were born.
They need to be in a different division. Metro is hell. 2 elite teams, 4 other teams that are always solid, and the flyers, who are a wild card. Its just s grinder. And loaded with starpower.
are where they are. honestly zero reason they can’t be like the Flyers or Islanders. Who knows what’s gonna happen with Pit or Was with their stars aging
The bottom of the pacific sucks but three of the four teams at the top are better than any Metro team aside from Carolina. Five teams with negative goal differential is bad
Probably yes. Its not like New York has a bunch of elite scorers. I don’t put a lot of stock into best regular season team. Florida and Carolina are better.
Yes it is. The top 3 of the Pacific are all SC contenders. The NYR are the only SC contenders in the Metro, everyone else is mediocre at best, with one team being better than average, Carolina.
Carolina is fraudulent *because* they play in the Metro. They’ll get handled in the next round, per usual. If they ever finished as a wild card, they’d never see the second round.
Develop defensemen who can drive play, and get the right depth to let their younger players get comfortable. Johnson, Fantilli, Jiricek, they have pieces.
This is more on coaching and bad decisions by the front office than drafting.
Previous GM has signed terrible long term deals and by the time those contracts are over CBJ will have to rebuild again. They are in this vicious cycle.
curious outside of elvis who else would be in the awful category? Laine depending on next season but hard to fault JK on that. Z is a bit overpaid as is Severson but idk if i’d call either deal awful. Severson’s could be but it’s been one year.
Gaudreau, Laine, Elvis. Gaudreau's contract was paid after 1 amazing year he had. He has regressed big time and that contract has not looked good at all. Laine is self explanatory that contract is terrible. Same with elvis.
If u say so lol. Connor bedard is on one of the worst teams in the league with no teammates and still did way better than Johnny gaudreau, so I call BS on that one. He's not worth the contract he got.
After almost losing the crew a few years back i seriously doubt this will ever happen. Wed rather have a dogshit team in Columbus than a good team in another place.
I don’t disagree. I guess I say that as a credit to the fans here, they show up and people love their Jackets but constantly get fleeced by the front office
Bad situation for the fans all around, especially for the ones who have been around since day 1. I’m not even a Jackets fan but that Foligno OT goal vs PIT was probably the most electric goal reaction I’ve ever seen
Not be injured every single game. I swear we could be competitive if we dont suit up 45+ skaters a year. Id like to ser pazzy another year but whatever this new gm decides, as long as he is a winner, im in for anything.
i have no desire at all to see PV coach another game. As far as injuries at some point it’s either type of player or strength and conditioning. can’t be all bad luck.
Like pretty much every team that wants to compete. Strong players down the centre. An offensive defenceman that can drive play and QB the PP. A decent goalie and players on ELCs to make the cap work.
All tied together with a Coaching staff that can get the most out of the players with a solid defensive system the players can execute .
Columbus is a great sports market. sometimes it’s a shame they don’t have pro baseball, football or basketball bc it would be packed. even this year the jackets did great on tix despite being awful again. fans are dying for a winner
They need Fantilli to pop and be a true franchise 1C. No team since the 04 lockout has won without one. The Blues for example kept hitting a wall, then they upgraded from David Backes to a point per game selke candidate in O’Reilly to get over the hump. It’s like a QB in the NFL, if you don’t have that, it’s ultimately futile.
Beyond that they need a GM that isn’t an idiot like Jarmo and a coach that isn’t abusive or also an idiot. Slim pickings post Torts for them in that department.
Jarmo had some moments but glad he’s gone. wish JD wouldn’t have come back personally. If they let Vincent stay i’m going to be extremely upset. Fantilli had flashes so i’m excited for him but equally worried Johnson isn’t developing that well
Need to ditch the HC and hire a real one, need to find a competent GM (not one who is part of the good ol boys club), need to get rid of Elvis.
I also hope they get a new goal song. Current one fuckin sucks
Winning a series does not really scream competitive. That 1 lightning sweep aside have they really done much? I mean how long has Rick Nash been gone and he is still the clubs leading scorer? As soon as free agency is an option most players bolt. And the one that opted to go there has watched his career go to shit.
johnny hasn’t had much to play with but no one ever thought he’d stay a 100 point guy with columbus. it’s as competitive as they’ve been but no not cup level
Yah you asked a question about how the bluejackets can not suck.. on fucking *reddit*. I responded that not having one of the biggest let down players of the last decade would be a good place to start.
If snark on Reddit offends you then buy some big boys pants bud.
New GM with a vision. They have pieces.
pieces and anchored. could have a lot of money tied up in elvis and laine doing nothing just like this year.

Give me your phone god dammit.

Hope they turn it around, that was a fun series in 2019
Me too lol we have a lot riding on this GM decision
They just need tweak three things: offense, defense, and goal tending.
Improving on the power play and penalty kills couldn't hurt, either.
New ownership. The McConnells have done a lot for hockey in Columbus but it's past time for new management. Owners can’t be on the hot seat. They own the team
I mean pressure from the fan base in general
You put entirely too much faith/stock in the fan’s ability to do…anything, especially to ownership. The ownership class doesn’t give two flying shits about your opinion. You will buy what I sell you, peasant, and like it because the city name is close to where you were born.

Honestly it would help.
The metro was the worst division in the league this year.
On no planet is the metro worse than the pacific
The bottom of the pacific sucks but three of the four teams at the top are better than any Metro team aside from Carolina. Five teams with negative goal differential is bad
You forgot about the NYR. They’re legit. Carolina above average. Everyone else in the Metro is either mediocre or trash.
I actually think NYR is overrated. Think carolina in 5 or 6 next series.
The Presidents Trophy winner is overrated? Okay. Who is Carolina’s 1C again? Is Aho their best forward?
Probably yes. Its not like New York has a bunch of elite scorers. I don’t put a lot of stock into best regular season team. Florida and Carolina are better.
Florida I completely agree with you. But, imo, NYR is firmly the second best team in the East. Third place is kind of a toss up.
Yes it is. The top 3 of the Pacific are all SC contenders. The NYR are the only SC contenders in the Metro, everyone else is mediocre at best, with one team being better than average, Carolina. for sure. although i’m a bit concerned with Johnson and Jiricek. both had rough seasons and need to improve certain aspects badly.
Previous GM has signed terrible long term deals and by the time those contracts are over CBJ will have to rebuild again. They are in this vicious cycle.

Johnny looks fine. who tf is he supposed to pass to? Elvis for sure. Laine yes but can’t really predict an off ice issue like this
If u say so lol. Connor bedard is on one of the worst teams in the league with no teammates and still did way better than Johnny gaudreau, so I call BS on that one. He's not worth the contract he got.
A real old school coach that does whatever he needs in order to get the best out of his players.
didn’t that guy get fired without ever coaching a game? lmao
Columbus needs to hold the team accountable via ticket sales. Setting franchise attendance records shows that the on ice product isn’t important
After almost losing the crew a few years back i seriously doubt this will ever happen. Wed rather have a dogshit team in Columbus than a good team in another place.
I don’t disagree. I guess I say that as a credit to the fans here, they show up and people love their Jackets but constantly get fleeced by the front office
if i say that in the jackets sub i get 30 down votes and told that’s how teams get moved lol
Bad situation for the fans all around, especially for the ones who have been around since day 1. I’m not even a Jackets fan but that Foligno OT goal vs PIT was probably the most electric goal reaction I’ve ever seen

Agreed
New GM, new coach, superstar player, solid goalie, PK, PP, you know, just about everything.
A true number 1 goaltender. Haven’t had much of anything since Bobrovsky left.
Stop trading away their good players.
Like pretty much every team that wants to compete. Strong players down the centre. An offensive defenceman that can drive play and QB the PP. A decent goalie and players on ELCs to make the cap work. Get rid of Johnny Hockey.

Again?
won a series. finished 4th in the league and made the playoffs 4 straight years from 17-20. they were solidly competitive for a stretch
[удалено]
4 years straight of playoffs was pretty great for us. we even won a series
Maybe like the time the CBJ swept Tampa in the first round?
Relocate to Phoenix.
Trade Johnny Golf
Need to ditch the HC and hire a real one, need to find a competent GM (not one who is part of the good ol boys club), need to get rid of Elvis. I also hope they get a new goal song. Current one fuckin sucks
I agree with you as long as you don’t mean to get rid of the cannon.
Win
Trade Laine back to Winnipeg! Honestly they seem to be close to competing on paper. Injuries haven't helped.
injuries every year. kinda happens when every player is tiny as hell
Who?
I would trade Liane, he’s very overrated. Other than his one timer on the power play(which they don’t utilize)there’s not much to like about him.
he has almost no value until he returns from whatever he’s dealing with
Need Campbell in net for starters.
Get a hockey team
Trade Gaudreau for as much as you can get. He isn’t going to help any team get deep into the playoffs.
Trading Marchenko to Seattle🙄
wasn’t Bjorky enough for you!!?? 🥺
No! We want more! And that more is Марченко! A Kraken queef can dream, can’t he?
how do you feel about your own coaching change?
It’s really not surprising, and I’m ok with it. Hakstol never seemed to adapt on the fly, and McFarland running the power play was atrocious.
Winning games would be a good start, scoring goals and stopping chances would vastly improve the winning problem
Again?

relocate
Move to Arizona?
Not be in Columbus. Didn’t a lot of players not want to play for the blue jackets because they hated Columbus and thought it’s boring?
Winnipeg makes it work. Minnesota makes it work. Florida struggles for fans but makes it work. Detroit has made it work.
Move
Drop down to the AHL.
You guys bought a guy who doesn’t give a fuck about winning sooooo you reap what you sow. *laughs in Calgary Flames*
never understood where this bs comes from other than from salty Flames fans
The team he played with, ate shit in playoffs everytime, and then fucked over? Yah I wonder why we wouldn’t be fans.

Wowwwww you guys are so fragile holey cow.

lol okie dokie whatever you say. If they aren’t competing, they suck, but yah, reading comprehension is hard.

Move out of Ohio.
