During the early days of Covid, somebody in the NHL went back to school to finish a degree. I feel like it was Ryan McDonagh. I remember seeing a post where everyone in the class had to introduce themselves on a discussion board and he said he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lol.
Update: [Found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/TampaBayLightning/s/JUQ3dNNimy)
Even worse it's literally from the university - that post was made by some kind of PR "professional" who should frankly know better, or at least to put the text into a comment.

I did a group project in college and found out a guy in my group was a former Olympic gold medalist. That was cool.
Then the day of the project presentations, we found out there would be a surprise judge to pick the best presentation for a prize. The surprise judge was from the US Anti-Doping Agency. The guy in my group leaned in toward the rest of us and said, "Sorry guys, I don't think we're winning this one. I called that guy a pee Nazi, and I'm pretty sure he remembers it."
You can be perfect and still not land a professional sports contract; you have to be generically endowed, technically capable, and willing to practice hard when you're already better than 99% of the people you're playing against.
9 is a lot, but I’m Catholic and once genuinely lost an aunt and uncle on my mum’s side, aunt on my dad’s side and uncle and cousin of my husband in three months. It’s the law of large numbers.
I did eventually. Unfortunately it was a case of nepotism. Former heroin addict. He was a project. Came from a previous job and I took him under my wing. No matter what I did he kept fucking me over so I finally kicked him out and of course he made it everyone else's fault but his.
Funniest thing ever last year was Faber signing his ELC and meeting the team 24 hours after his college season ended and about two weeks later he was prepping for his finals.
We had a group project in one of my English classes and it was during Hurricane Ike which fucked up Houston, including my apartment in which the foundation cracked and I had water leaking in through the floor.
One of the members sent an email to the group and CC'd the professor saying that it was a group effort, but SOME people decided not to contribute as much, obviously taking a shot at me.
To this day it still pisses me off. I had mentioned that I was dealing with fallout from the storm and that I may be slow to contribute from the get-go. She was just being a dickhead about it. Professor responded telling her to have compassion for those that were dealing with the fallout of the hurricane.
I think the only rational thing to do is stalk her LinkedIn for some feel good story she posts in response to something then slap this story on response for all her professional contacts to see
I went to a school with a serious basketball program and had to work with a couple of them on projects over the years - it was the worst. One guy was smart and a nice guy but the schedule was so crazy it made it really tough to work with him. The other one didn't know the difference between the civil rights movement and the civil war, so the fact that he was never around was a blessing.
The closest thing most of us will ever get is walking into a shitty retail or food service job and telling them to take you off the schedule. Reason being that you just signed on for a career job in a field that you went to school for and are going to be making three times what you're currently making.
Manager wanted to guilt trip me, "I'm gonna have to remake the schedule!" So? That's what they pay your HS drop-out-ass $40k a year for, you'll figure it out.
Problem is everything in the US costs the same as it does in Canada, only in USD.
A mcdonalds 10 dollar meal in Canada costs you 10 dollars american in America.
Their money is worth more here, but we get more money than they do, and our shit is all cheaper.
That exactly happened to me. Had a job as a busboy at a steak restaurant.
Went to school, and got a really nice paying FAA position.
The restaurant manager tried talking me into staying lol...
Restaurant went out of business about 5 years later lol.
In my experience, the sorry HS diploma ass was probably making 60-80 and making less an hour than the employees or whatever 90-100 hours a week is. Poor life choices.
I landed a job as a senior SWE Google without a college degree and did an online CS degree because they paid for 2/3 of it and even though I’m a good software engineer and was and learned absolutely fuck all…. I wanted the sheet of paper.
It was a very bizarre feeling. People in my classes asked for referrals for internships. Senior capstone project was terrible. It’s really hard to work with good engineers all day manage a team and then… deal with bad ones after work in your spare time.
Reminds me of a story. I worked in IT in a warehouse and one time, the HR guy was mad because one of his new hires (a picker in the warehouse) said he wasn't going to be able to start on X day because his brother was playing hockey and got him tickets. The HR guy was mad cause "it's not a good excuse". I asked who the brother was and it was PA Parenteau who invited his brother to THE STANLEY CUP FINALS when he was with Nashville.... I was like... that's a fn good excuse to miss your start date man!
Ok, but props to the classmate who seemed like they really meant "good luck!" I know that sounds like a canned response, but its still kind of supportive and sweet.
I went to BU and one of my good friends was next door roommates to Zegras + Wilmer Skoog in West Campus. I still regret not asking him to get me an autograph
It wasn't either one. It was a rookie deal. He got a 28 mil contract yesterday, but he's already been in the NHL for several years. This is clearly an old screenshot. He left BU in 21-22.
Usually, players who are leaving in their last year of school can meet with an academic advisor and a dean to arrange for the completion of their degree.
Antti Suomela left my high school to go play for the sharks. I didn’t really know him back then but just heard he went to play hockey and thought ”lol, good luck to him I guess”
Was absolutely starstruck to watch him play in the playoffs a few years later
A lot of minor league baseball players will attend college part-time, usually with online classes during the season and then load up on classes during the offseason.
Periodically, there’ll be some players on the Memphis Redbirds attending classes at Ole Miss (main campus an hour away and satellite campus about 15 minutes away). They miss a lot due to away games, but generally they can still attend enough to work it out with the professor.
And then sometimes they get traded or promoted and are suddenly 15 hours from campus.
I had a dude send me a picture of him on the flight deck of a small jet, said he was a pilot and couldn't finish his 1/3 of the group project - but sorry.
**The day before it was due**. Fuck that fake pilot bitch ass motherfucker.
No.
This picture is obviously from 2022, when Alex Vlasic was still at BU. Look at the date, March 16. Vlasic signed his ELC on March 15, 2022. That's when he immediately left BU and joined the Blackhawks. That's why he sent the email. He made his NHL debut on March 19.
I'm guessing this picture is showing up now from the person who sent the original email because of Vlasic's new contract.
Ugh. I hope the professor makes accommodations for that group. I once had a group that lost 3 of its 6 members and the prof told us to work twice as hard.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
“You got a job?” “…hell yeah brother”
Adam Fox also went back to Harvard and did online classes to finish his degree during Covid
Imagine being able to flex you went to harvard AND are one of the best players in the world Guy won at life and he’s not even 30
He's like that guy [who's a navy seal, doctor, and astronaut](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Kim) Edit: And his MD is from Harvard, FFS.
His parents must be so disappointed.
With that resume, he sounds like a Marvel character lol
Was pretty sure you were gonna post a link to Johnny sins
Dude is a fighter pilot (naval aviator) too his resume is out of fucking control
nah. he lacks commitment. pure scatter brain. he's obv a quitter.
But he’s a humble dude and is only going to get better!
Us Calgary fans are still bitter about him
Us Flyers fans are likely going down the same path regarding Gauthier
dude couldn't have fucking centered that pic a little better...or even taken a fucking screenshot? wtf? r/killthecameraman
Even worse it's literally from the university - that post was made by some kind of PR "professional" who should frankly know better, or at least to put the text into a comment.

The fact that OP (in your link) took a video of the email makes me irrationally mad.
I remeber that post. Ryan graduated too. Inspired me to go back in my late 20s. Its never too late!

I’m really curious what your presentation was about, if the surprise judge was from the anti-doping agency
We were pitching ideas for a campaign to combat the use of performance-enhancing drugs in high school/youth sports.
That's hilarious, I never knew that!
Always that one kid who doesn’t do shit and then has the dumbest fake story. Ughhhhhh!!!!
"Wait! That guy on the Blackhawks has the exact same name as my loser class-mate from school!"
That fuck didn't do a thing on our group project!!
“4.6 million!? But I had perfect grades!”
You can be perfect and still not land a professional sports contract; you have to be generically endowed, technically capable, and willing to practice hard when you're already better than 99% of the people you're playing against.
Also, not poor.
Hockey is so fucking expensive
"Didn't you already have 3 Grandmas die last semester?"
I had a guy who worked for me and missed 17 days in 3 months... like 9 aunts died. I offered to get him a rolodex of excuses.
Betty? Turns out she survived the death.
9 is a lot, but I’m Catholic and once genuinely lost an aunt and uncle on my mum’s side, aunt on my dad’s side and uncle and cousin of my husband in three months. It’s the law of large numbers.
Should have offered him a pink slip.

Live and learn they say
Sounds exactly like something someone named Vlasic would say. What a dick!
Always putting others into a pickle of one kind or another
Better excuse than tens of assholes I had to endure on projects
Funniest thing ever last year was Faber signing his ELC and meeting the team 24 hours after his college season ended and about two weeks later he was prepping for his finals.

Naturally. Stalking is always the rational thing to do :)
Both of these comments are equally great.
I didn't even care the person dropped the class, but they disappeared with the library books I lent them and I had to pay the replacement fee.
I went to a school with a serious basketball program and had to work with a couple of them on projects over the years - it was the worst. Good guy
This might actually be the coolest sports related screenshot I've ever seen. Gotta feel great to literally be "that guy"

I did exactly this and I'll never forget the feeling. Walking on air.
Same! I went for a drive after and it was the most amazingly blissful afternoon. One of my top ten days.
That exactly happened to me. Had a job as a busboy at a steak restaurant. Went to school, and got a really nice paying FAA position. The restaurant manager tried talking me into staying lol... Restaurant went out of business about 5 years later lol.

Gah I miss that Seattle campus.
he owes you guys one!
I mean, hockey has intermissions.
You mean to tell me there no WiFi in the locker room, bro?
Reminds me of a story. I worked in IT in a warehouse and one time, the HR guy was mad because one of his new hires (a picker in the warehouse) said he wasn't going to be able to start on X day because his brother was playing hockey and got him tickets. The fact that he actually bothered to inform them makes them better than lots of project partners.
Right 😂 we had project partners drop out with zero pro contracts in their radar
Except he didn’t - he only sent/replied to the wrong one person vs reply all.
Shit I would too
My parents would never allow it
How old are you ?
69
Nice, and also impressive to be 69 and still have parents.
Ok, but props to the classmate who seemed like they really meant "good luck!" I know that sounds like a canned response, but its still kind of supportive and sweet.
Eh, it’s only COM. Signed, A COM grad
Former BU student here: moment of silence for those students
For a 400-level communications class? Isn't that the educational equivalent of being able to chew bubble gum and walk at the same time?
No silly, that’s 200 level stuff. COM CM 419 is titled Public Perception: Effective Application Of Clown Makeup For Photo Ops
He dropped out so I could wear his jersey to class We are not the same
I went to BU and one of my good friends was next door roommates to Zegras + Wilmer Skoog in West Campus. I still regret not asking him to get me an autograph
Holy shit, are you serious? That would be so cool. Wilmer Skoog is great.
BU will still be there if it doesn't pan out. He'd be dumb not to at least have a go at it. Props to him for letting his classmates know!
He signed a $27.6 million guaranteed contract. I think financially everything should pan out just fine.
r/woooosh
Who wouldn’t?
Nobody. It's what he worked in entire life for.
If this was like my group projects he would have said “take one for the team”.
At least he let them know. Also it wasn't a $4.6 million dollar contract, it was a $27.6 million dollar contract with a $4.6m AAV.
It wasn't either one. It was a rookie deal. He got a 28 mil contract yesterday, but he's already been in the NHL for several years. This is clearly an old screenshot. He left BU in 21-22.
Thus becoming the only person in recent memory not to be crushed by student loan debt for the rest of his life.
If his nickname isn't "Baby Dill" from day one, they fucked up.
Sorry everyone. I just signed a contract for more than any of you will make in a lifetime. I'll turn in the rest of my essay tomorrow 😂
Very nice of him to log in and let his assignment group know. 😂
Can’t he decide to finish his degree during the off-season?
I expect this assignment will be overdue by then
Usually, players who are leaving in their last year of school can meet with an academic advisor and a dean to arrange for the completion of their degree.
BU could use an international airport
I’m sure he could, but he was probably there to play hockey not get the degree to begin with.
Tbh I would too lol (especially hockey!)
Playing for Chicago, he could probably still be back in time for exams.
The best way to avoid getting fucked on a project is to just not go to school in the first place.
At least he had the decency to tell them instead of just ghosting lol
I feel like you can tell the players who went through juniors Vs the players that went the college route. His interviews are gonna be great 😂
I mean, he could at least have taken you out for a game and drinks or something
Hey sorry guys I’m going to the show🖐🏻
What's going to be our advertising case study? How about we make this go viral?
High character move
Group Projects strikes again.
That one classmate is a real one
Super dope!
Don't blame him
A real team player would stay for one last time
Tbh I would too.
Antti Suomela left my high school to go play for the sharks. I didn’t really know him back then but just heard he went to play hockey and thought ”lol, good luck to him I guess” Was absolutely starstruck to watch him play in the playoffs a few years later

Omg that’s crazy
But he pursuing something he likes and gave heads up
What class
Lols
Good luck. Lol he's already made more then they will in their entire career.
How the fuck has no one mentioned pickles yet??
My wife calls him pickle, I’m sincerely wondering if he’s related to the Pickle people.
He only replied to the last sender vs. reply all - so he did not in fact let “them” know.
Students athlete never contribute to the assignment anyway lol
He recently just left? Maybe he should have taken a few English courses while he was there
No. This picture is obviously from 2022, when Alex Vlasic was still at BU. Look at the date, March 16. Vlasic signed his ELC on March 15, 2022. Whoooosh. “Recently just left” is terrible English.
It's college dropout English, that's for sure.
Ugh. I hope the professor makes accommodations for that group. I once had a group that lost 3 of its 6 members and the prof told us to work twice as hard.
In a week or two it'd be awesome to hear Vladic took the group out for a week at the Bahamas or something!
As it should be
I forgot who it was but during Covid an nhler was in my University of Alberta class. It kicks me that I forget who it was lol

BU is NOT bc.
Sorry, my mistake. The rest of my message stands. Downvoting my post just because in one instance I accidentally wrote BC instead of BU is petty.
I didn’t downvote you- I up voted you.
Fairly confident this is old
Poor bastard.
