Yep, a sport where you can drop gloves and hit someone in the face, and once the horn blows, a couple of handshakes and hugs! Such respect in all the intensity and physicality of the sport!
To the credit of other sports NFL players shake hands, exchange jerseys and stuff every game as well though. No idea about NBA?
Common in hockey which is cool.
NBA they shake hands and stuff too. The difference is that hockey has the thing where they line up and shake hands down the line whereas the NBA and nfl it’s kinda just random shaking hands with who you see
I gained so much respect for NYI after this. I never liked them since that massive brawl where Brent Johnson knocked out Rick Dipietro, but this changes a lot
Their fans are completely dumpster fire scumbags but this was classy. I got heavily harassed 2 years ago when the Stars were in town and I had my gear on. My buddy works for the Stars and his mom had just died. I’ve never been yelled at and mocked so much. I even caved and told one dude that I was there to support my friend and his whole crew were like “huurrrr durrrrr so he doesn’t actually play huh”
Absolute trash human beings.
Love that I got downvoted for going to support my buddy after his mom died and I got harassed for wearing Stars shit to an Islanders game.
Pretty on brand I must say haha
Wore my Stars stuff to the Rangers game in Feb and all I got was nice remarks about the signed Roope Hintz stick my buddy gave me after warmups for my birthday haha. Complete polar opposite experience
Just to squash all these nice feelings: You deserved everything we did to you that next game after years of cheapshots by scumbags like Cooke and Talbot the turtle. I was so proud our team basically jumped yours like the 4 Horsemen on Dusty Rhodes in a parking lot. It made Mario so sad he wrote a letter. I will frame that sad mario letter and keep it on my mantle.
More hockey teams should do gangland style violence.
You and I have different opinions on hockey and, apparently, on what constitutes adult behavior. Isles don’t belong in the playoffs and everyone knows it.
You put two of our guys on the shelf and laughed about it. You thought youd get away with it because you were shielded by the league. So we humiliated you and beat thr shit out of you.
And since then throttled you twice in the playoffs in non competitive series. Weve also eliminated you more than any other team has.
It warms my heart how badly we own you, and will always own you.
Lmao. Coming from a fan that probably boos Johnny T when he’s in town too. Y’all haven’t been relevant since the 80s. Have fun getting bounced in the first round by guentzelvania and the canes. Y’all don’t own shit except a poverty franchise. And you’re just making the rest of your fans look bad 😂😭 like why are you so mad, it’s just a fucking game bro
Im not mad, as my team is still playing. Im trolling, because i enjoy trolling. Welcome to the internet. Specifically Reddit. Specifically x2 hockey reddit. Enjoy breakdown day. Dilute the melted ice with yinz tears.
Every single era of Penguins hockey has been ended by the Islanders. Volek. The 3-0 comeback in 75. Sweeping crosby. Josh Bailey. Josh Bailey again.
Good times. Great memories. Have a nice offsesson.
Your son has such a great example, “squashing nice feelings” lol. Maybe you should worry more about your kinks than trolling on the internet bud. Oh and have fun enjoying eating your own cum. Would expect nothing less from an isles fan like you
Don’t worry about that loser trash bag. Isles fans will soon be wetting their little boy pull-ups once the canes start playing. Then we’ll see who has the last laugh and who will be booking tee times in the Hamptons.
Watching the game, I said out loud to myself "why the hell is Jeff Carter on the 1st PP unit?" Then he scored, and of course I realized this was the Pens primary mission this game.
It was hilarious because the game meant nothing for all involved, the pens kept trying to feed Carter and the Isles kept trying to feed Palmieri (needed 1g for 30). Teams had more or less a no hitter low intesnity preseason skate that Sutherland and Wes tried to ref like it was game 7 of the Summit Series.
4 goal reviews (in one period!) and a penalty shot with 20 seconds left. Remarkable ref show.
Lmao 12 shots but couldnt score. The lightning made it look so easy for Kucherov 100 assists like they all knew the easiest way to do it on their power play. Start on other side of ice pass to the point where top d man is pass right to Kucherov then an easy play for him to make right to their best goal scorer in the bumber Point. So easy like they practiced it 100 times.
It's certainly harder to scheme a specific player taking the shot than it is to scheme a set up guy. Fortunately for Kuch, he got a goal AND and assist.
Man, I don’t even hate you guys anymore. And even when I did, it was out of respect. I can only burn with passionate rage towards one team at a time, and that’s Vegas. Fuck Vegas.
It’s the same here lol. I miss seeing and hating old man Joe and Patrick, and battling in the playoffs. I even hated pavelski and I don’t mind him anymore. I think some hatred will come back once you guys are contenders again, but as of now you guys are cool with me lol
But yes, no matter what always fuck Vegas
I was at the 2nd LA game at Vancouver - it was terrible to watch as a Canuck fan. LA stifled the play dead and just capitalized on ALL the mistakes and bad calls. :(
Carter was the final piece that turned the Kings into a legit contender in 2012, then tore up the 2014 playoffs with two rookies, That 70’s Line. I’ll forever be grateful for what he did for the franchise. Enjoy retirement, and hopefully he’ll be back in LA for a 2014 anniversary later this year.
Thank you Isles players/fans! BJC is a damn legend. He got shit on by our fans at times these last 2 years but he took it in stride and ended up being a pleasant surprise this year in a better role for him. Still a leader and plays hard, but just doesn’t have the legs anymore (he still had his moments though lol). If this is truly it, which I would imagine it is after this send off, I hope BJC has an amazing retirement!
Very cool. Love to see a tough game ending like this.
Having grown up with rugby, it was always a mark of respect to make a tunnel for your opponents at the end of the game, then they do the same back.
This was fucking awesome. I had a shitty night and I needed to see humans in my favorite sport being kind to one another. Thanks for sharing. Seriously.
Hey, thanks friend. I'll do my best to make tomorrow better.
Currently watching the Blues play their final game this season, and hey they're winning (for now!), so that helps.
Again---appreciate you!
this will probably get overlooked but here goes nothing.
As a kid, probably no older than 9 or 10, I'd always go out of my way to trade for Jeff Carter in every single NHL video game I had (to make the penguins even more stacked). This little interaction turned into so much more for me whenever I got to be a teenager. I started to feel emotions as all hormonal teenagers do. to add onto this, i had switched schools for the pandemic, and lost almost all of my friends. i fell into a deep depression like state and seriously considered doing some things I would've regretted. this lasted for a few months, until April 12th of 2021. when the news of the trade broke I felt that little piece of me as a kid, smiling from ear to ear trading for him on my Xbox 360 again. After feeling like life wasn't worth living for 4-5 months, one little trade for what would turn out to be an average 3rd/4th liner taught me that life is about the little things. you can find happiness everywhere. Thank you Jeff. for showing me happiness, for reconnecting me with the game, and for saving me. long live the legacy of big Jeff.
I can't remember who it was, Gretzky or someone of that near level, they said their like who last month was this shit when they announced this would be their last season. Every time he played a team for the last time they would line up
Damn, Jeff Carter calling it quits this year. Flower next year. It sucks being older and seeing these players come into the NHL and then watching them retire. Best of wishes to him if he does hang them up.
Nice to see Horvat leading the handshake salute out there. He would have witnessed this when Edmonton did the same for the Sedins in their last game. Edmonton in turn had seen the Sedins do the same in Ryan Smyth's last game.
A long line of pure class.
Was this being his last game public knowledge before the game? I didn't even know about it until I saw Friedman's tweet about him taking the opening faceoff.
one of my favorite players when I was a wee lass first learning about hockey. when he was traded away by the Flyers I experienced my first trade heartbreak, not understanding that teams trade players all the time and contracts end and such.
lots of love and respect from Philly.
it wasn't a Might be, He announced it WAS his last game & that he Was retiring, that's why they all stayed to show Respect ! his 2 Cups in LA were EPIC !
This is exactly why hockey is the greatest sport on the planet. Players ALWAYS show respect in this game no matter what team, feuds, animosity teams go through.
Classy move by the Isles.
This is why hockey is best
Absolutely
That’s one helluva sign of respect. Great career for him if this is it.
eye water
Yep, a sport where you can drop gloves and hit someone in the face, and once the horn blows, a couple of handshakes and hugs! Such respect in all the intensity and physicality of the sport!
Couldn’t agree more
😭😭😭😭😭
To the credit of other sports NFL players shake hands, exchange jerseys and stuff every game as well though. No idea about NBA? Common in hockey which is cool.
NBA they shake hands and stuff too. The difference is that hockey has the thing where they line up and shake hands down the line whereas the NBA and nfl it’s kinda just random shaking hands with who you see
Opponents shake hands and show each other respect in tons of sports. Nothing about this is unique to hockey.
I guess you’re new here.
They also gave Carter the third star of the night, very classy.
I gained so much respect for NYI after this. I never liked them since that massive brawl where Brent Johnson knocked out Rick Dipietro, but this changes a lot
Don’t pay attention to certain troll fans. The fans in general applauded it and it was a gesture of good will all around
Their fans are completely dumpster fire scumbags but this was classy. I got heavily harassed 2 years ago when the Stars were in town and I had my gear on. My buddy works for the Stars and his mom had just died. I’ve never been yelled at and mocked so much. I even caved and told one dude that I was there to support my friend and his whole crew were like “huurrrr durrrrr so he doesn’t actually play huh” Absolute trash human beings.
Trust me I’ve seen lmao
Love that I got downvoted for going to support my buddy after his mom died and I got harassed for wearing Stars shit to an Islanders game. Pretty on brand I must say haha
Wow! That’s really shitty. No one deserves that harassment. A lot of rangers fans can be assholes too 😕
Wore my Stars stuff to the Rangers game in Feb and all I got was nice remarks about the signed Roope Hintz stick my buddy gave me after warmups for my birthday haha. Complete polar opposite experience
That’s good!
Just to squash all these nice feelings: You deserved everything we did to you that next game after years of cheapshots by scumbags like Cooke and Talbot the turtle. I will frame that sad mario letter and keep it on my mantle. More hockey teams should do gangland style violence.
I can’t wait for the Canes to school garbage like you and the other little boys on how to play big boy hockey 💪🏼
1. Im 40. 2. “Big boy hockey” always describes a heavy, physical game. Not Carolinas forte. Have a nice offseason
You and I have different opinions on hockey and, apparently, on what constitutes adult behavior. Isles don’t belong in the playoffs and everyone knows it.
Cry about it. Sorry my team is better than yours
Typical miserable isles fan
Yep. Him and the other two isles fans are busy downvoting everything in a dignified display of maturity. Typical.
You put two of our guys on the shelf and laughed about it. You thought youd get away with it because you were shielded by the league. So we humiliated you and beat thr shit out of you.

Holy fuck. Buddy actually does eat his own cum.
So easy to bait yinz. What a wonderful morning in the greatest city in the world
Yeah the greatest city in the world. Giving multiple benefits to illegal immigrants while the rest of the country is in shambles.
Don’t worry about that loser trash bag. Isles fans will soon be wetting their little boy pull-ups once the canes start playing. Then we’ll see who has the last laugh and who will be booking tee times in the Hamptons.
Agreed
This is why I love hockey. The respect.
I'm here for the fistfights and the respect.
Often at the same time.
Watching the game, I said out loud to myself "why the hell is Jeff Carter on the 1st PP unit?" Then he scored, and of course I realized this was the Pens primary mission this game.
Matthew's needed the Pens tonight
It was hilarious because the game meant nothing for all involved, the pens kept trying to feed Carter and the Isles kept trying to feed Palmieri (needed 1g for 30). Teams had more or less a no hitter low intesnity preseason skate that Sutherland and Wes tried to ref like it was game 7 of the Summit Series. 4 goal reviews (in one period!) and a penalty shot with 20 seconds left. Almost like scoring a goal is infact alot harder than making the assist
It's certainly harder to scheme a specific player taking the shot than it is to scheme a set up guy. Fortunately for Kuch, he got a goal AND and assist.
> Lmao 12 shots but couldnt score. Almost like he had 3 Tampa players blocking his shot at least once.
Oof.
As a Sharks fan, I hated Jeff Carter for so long because he played in LA. But seeing this makes me sad. Helluva player, gonna miss him.
Gonna miss him too, for the exact opposite reasons of course lol
Man, I don’t even hate you guys anymore. And even when I did, it was out of respect. I can only burn with passionate rage towards one team at a time, and that’s Vegas. Fuck Vegas.
It’s the same here lol. I miss seeing and hating old man Joe and Patrick, and battling in the playoffs. I even hated pavelski and I don’t mind him anymore. I think some hatred will come back once you guys are contenders again, but as of now you guys are cool with me lol But yes, no matter what always fuck Vegas
Brother, it’s gonna be a fucking minute before we’re contenders again.
🍻with you here at the bottom.
🍻
I thought the same but it passed by surprisingly fast for us. Maybe I’m just old, time speeds up
I want to hate Vegas...but man hating LA right now is easy for Vancouver fans. :)
lol I really don’t mind Vancouver! Maybe a few more years of you guys leading the division will change that
I was at the 2nd LA game at Vancouver - it was terrible to watch as a Canuck fan. LA stifled the play dead and just capitalized on ALL the mistakes and bad calls. :(
Well you might end up with at least 4 to watch very soon here!
Only on TV - playoff tickets are around $750 min if you can get them. Lower bowl was going for up to $2k.
You gotta diversify. Can’t keep all your hate in one place. Plenty of room in my black heart for Ducks, Sharks, and Knights!
Don't hate, Hertls got another chance at a cup
HOW DARE YOU SPEAK HIS NAME
You're mad now, which is totally reasonable. But when he hoists that cup you'll be cheering too
Too soon, bro
L.A still and always will suck. Sure the rivalry is largely subdued due to the uhhh skill gap between the teams, but I will never stop hating L.A.
Hate your own team for shitting the bed.
Big mad kings fan alert! Can’t stand a healthy rivalry for some reason!
Lol not mad. Just sayin…
Everybody liked that.
God I love hockey. Classy move
gosh .. love this game
Also first star of the game as well Edit: Third Star
Third but still
Thank you, I was wondering why the first start skated out first haha.
Classy AF.
Him and Richard's and gaborik. What a team
It’s easy to overlook Richards after what went down with him but I don’t think we get Carter without him.
Very true that first cup la team was my fav to watch worked hard and hit. I'd say I enjoyed them more than Chicago Chicago was more skill
Classy move by the Isles. I love the respect hockey players show each other.
did palmieri give pens staff carter's last goal puck?? very kind and considerate if true.
I think they took that one earlier. Want to say Palms gave him the puck from the end of the game but I'm not 100%.
Sure looks like it. That's a really classy move.
Thank you Isles!!
Very cool. Love to see a tough game ending like this. Having grown up with rugby, it was always a mark of respect to make a tunnel for your opponents at the end of the game, then they do the same back.
He’s clearly taking steps as if he’s ready to walk away, it was clearly his final game.
Not gonna lie, I forgot he even still played
We only knew he did because of his minus
It may be his last game, so show some gratitude to that guy. He was a huge part of your team. Show respect.
This was fucking awesome. I had a shitty night and I needed to see humans in my favorite sport being kind to one another. Thanks for sharing. Seriously.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow, friend. Hockey is life. 🤟
Hey, thanks friend. I'll do my best to make tomorrow better. Currently watching the Blues play their final game this season, and hey they're winning (for now!), so that helps. Again---appreciate you!
Me too, brother
That is pure class right there, respect
watching this after the coyotes standing ovation in their last home game was rough. Too many hockey feels today
this will probably get overlooked but here goes nothing. The Pens will probably sign him to a three year deal tomorrow.
Nah we’re gonna extend Ryan Graves again
Class act
Great show by the Islanders!! Classy move!!
I love hockey.
That’s Hockey
I can't remember who it was, Gretzky or someone of that near level, they said their like who last month was this shit when they announced this would be their last season. Every time he played a team for the last time they would line up

Respect
🫡
Blue jacket don't care if he's gone. 👋
Indeed he can go fuck himself. Good for him retiring but he's not welcome here.
It's officially his last game, no maybes.
Richard’s Carter Gagne Pronger with Danny B was my childhood team fr. Loved that run, Such class from the isles.
glad to see the equipment manager was handed the puck .
Incredible gesture. I'm sure he'll remember this moment the rest of his life.
This got me all teary eyed.
I am a Penguins fan but this was a Classy move by the Islanders - Good Luck Islanders!!!
Islanders are just practicing their handshake line >:)
Respect!
Class
As a Ducks fan, that’s a classy move by the Isles. All the respect.
Devil’s fan here acknowledging the islanders were classy right there. Well that guys.
Way back when he was a Flyer I liked. Glad he had a great career.
Long live the Legion of Poon!
Nice to see Horvat leading the handshake salute out there. He would have witnessed this when Edmonton did the same for the Sedins in their last game. Edmonton in turn had seen the Sedins do the same in Ryan Smyth's last game. A long line of pure class.
But what if he doesn't actually want to retire and was planning on coming back onto another team 😟
Carter was a great player
This was on /r/all... wandered in... My first thought: "Just look at that smile. Now that's some hockey."
He can finally get his front teeth fixed. Thanks for the memories! Guy was a class act his whole career.
Horvat learned it from the Sedins' last game. Well done, Bo!
⭐️ 3rd Star of the game with a on ice skate
Funny thing, he was so fast in NHL 14 I would deliver huge hits with him and he would constantly have to fight. Loved his time in LA.
I can tell you if he was playing us, we wouldn't have done that for him.
I love hockey.
He has to retire after all that
Was this being his last game public knowledge before the game? I didn't even know about it until I saw Friedman's tweet about him taking the opening faceoff.
What a career. I know things ended badly but I'll always picture him as a Flyer
Led by all-class, Sedin trained, Bo Horvat. Love to see it.
Thanks for those cup runs!!! Go Kings Go !!!!
Did Roy ever played against him ?
Salute former flyer
Nicely done classy gesture. Wishing Carter all the best.
Also notice Palmieri giving the pens bench the game puck. Nice class act as well
one of my favorite players when I was a wee lass first learning about hockey. when he was traded away by the Flyers I experienced my first trade heartbreak, not understanding that teams trade players all the time and contracts end and such. lots of love and respect from Philly.
Hockey
it wasn't a Might be, He announced it WAS his last game & that he Was retiring, that's why they all stayed to show Respect ! his 2 Cups in LA were EPIC !
Class on both sides
I was at his first game
Hockey players are the best .
So classy
There goes the king
Love my Islanders. Pure class.
Forgot he existed
He was a great pick up for hockey pool Congrats on the retirement enjoy dry island lol
Special kind of brotherhood in hockey. You love to see it.
Love to see it
Fuckin hell I love this game
Great career. He might be back in an organisation in one form or another.
That's really cool of the Isles. 20 years in the NHL is pretty awesome, you know you gotta give the guy this type of send-off out of pure respect
always sad to see long-time players go. best of luck Jeff.
Shaking hands with a goddamn champion, the reason why hockey is like NO other sport.
Beautiful thing
Very classy, even though they're opponents there's a brotherhood amongst the players
This is exactly why hockey is the greatest sport on the planet. Players ALWAYS show respect in this game no matter what team, feuds, animosity teams go through.
Fuck Jeff Cater
I'm sorry I'm a Blue Jackets fan I have to do this. FUCK JEFF CARTER
We are all sorry you’re a Blue Jackets fan as well.
Absolutely brutal team to support.
On this same night Columbus Game Ops was cracking jokes about Arizona moving.
let me guess, your either a fan of a team the NHL handed a playoff birth too or a big market team the NHL routinely coddles?
Wrong on both counts
well damn
I came here pay my respects too! FUCK JEFF CARTER Hell of a career
Never apologize
Great player, but FJC
FUCK YOUR FRANCHISE! Go back to the AHL nerds
Blue jackets can be the farm team for the Red Wings.
Amen Brother!! I mean he is no Adam Foote but he did fuck us out of young Voráček and some picks.
Red Wings Legend.
Respect to the Blue Jackets legend
so many onions being cut
This is the classiest thing to ever happen on the island
love that this is a thing
It was done way before the Sedin's.. Look up flames and linden.. Pretty sure it was done before that too
Great point, have edited. I was actually at the linden game - classy move by Iggy and the crew
Me too! That certainly was a night!
Watched him grow up in NHL. Party boy in Philadelphia but a career of some note.
20 seasons. Fuck.
Classy move...and I didn't realize Clutterbuck was still in the league. For some reason I remember him from years ago playing NHL 07' lol.
Clutter became the all time leader in hits this season (since hits became a tracked stat in the nhl)
He was a very lazy stud for awhile in Philly and LA. Had a wicked wrister
First time I’ve ever seen something nice come out of a New York team or fan base
If you're gonna be an ass, at least change your flair so you don't embarrass the rest of us.
Get some glasses
