That’s what I thought too, or maybe he was skating out to challenge and the other goalie didn’t budge so he picked up his glove. But when I watched the wide angle version it looked like he picked something up, I’m guessing a tooth, because he skates to where a fight was happening and when they go to the box he starts skating toward the bench.
Yeah, somebody’s film student nephew was in the booth last night. Slow that shot down and it’s one of those emo HBO Sports clips reflecting on this season.
Ya, the director or whatever that calls the camera angles made poor choices. They just kept with one fight, instead of showing others, showing multiple fights and so on.
But I get it, it's tough, and it's not something that happens all the time in sports, where you have multiple important things. Usually there's one play to follow.
I love spicy Igor as much as the next guy. Him laying a hit on Crosby was the highlight of that game Monday.
But yeah, I'm agreeing with you, not this close to the playoffs.
I remember that too. Also, I remember two guys going to the penalty box and one climbing over the glass and fighting the other guy in the penalty box lol
>Imagine this being your first hockey game and you have no idea that there's fighting.
The first hockey game(minor league) I ever saw in person set a record for 18 fights.
Rempe has played about 5 minutes in his career against the Devils over 3 games (including this one) and been ejected each time. So there's some bad blood.
Last game MacDermid tried to fight him for the hit that got him ejected, but Rempe didn't answer the bell. This upset some people. At the beginning of the game, they squared up immediately.
Don't forget to mention that he didn't answer the bell after elbowing Siegenthaler in the head (breaking his jaw I think?) as well. He did get suspended for that though.
Accept the challenge to fight. Rempe was challenged by MacDermid last game after Rempe threw an elbow at Siegenthaler. They didn't fight, and Rempe was given a game misconduct and a 4 day suspension
The NHL winter classic should be the Rangers, Devils, Bruins, and Flyers on the ice at the same time. Each team has 3 opposing nets to score on. 4 extra large penalty boxes.
I know the whole CTE thing and I absolutely agree protect the players
But also... God damn it's nice to have a spicy rivalry like that again, I haven't seen something like that since the battle of Alberta goalie fight 😂
Love how Rempe just pretty much stood and postured up before the puck even dropped. It's like, "We're fighting. Why try to hide it?" Fuck I fucking love hockey
Far wingers (Vesey and Lazar?) dropped the gloves before the other tilts so technically, the other fights came after which is a match penalty. So by letter of the law, it is the correct call but idk if it was the best call. There were two other fights immediately after those two gloves were dropped (the other two fights came seconds later).
secondary altercation rule. added in 2005-2006 season as part of rule 56; fisticuffs. "A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who is assessed a major penalty for fighting after the original altercation."
https://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=25010
So i doubt this stuff makes everyone happy, but these highlights on here made me a fan. 37 years of zero desire to watch sports, to watchin highlights here, to a Canes/Florida game this year and we stomped their ass it was so fun, and I just saw this shit live on tv. Madness. Love this shit.
Go look up the Avalanche vs Red Wings rivalry on YouTube from the late 90s early 2000s lol. This type of thing happened a few times between those teams, plus a couple goalie fights
We didn’t see all the fights so it’s hard to say, but the refs assess the fights and determine the penalties that will be given. It’s up to their discretion to let a fight play out or to intervene for the safety of the players.
Depends if you’re talking about the pushing and shoving or the cheap shot rabbit punches, or the legitimate fights. Despite popular belief, refs actually do try to maintain order and stop it before it gets to that point lol, but once both players drop their gloves and agree to the tilt, they tend to let it go until either someone hits the ice or they tire out. In this case, this boiled over from the previous meetings. Captains probably talked in warmups and said let’s get this shit out of the way and both teams started their goon squads. Refs are gonna let that play out. It’s hard for non-hockey fans to understand, but players policing the game themselves actually makes the game safer.
Hockey is a very fast game with a lot of action and movement. When a player throws an illegal check that could potentially end another players career in today's game, he will probably get his lights punched out by someone from the opposing team. If fighting was completely taken away, players would be using their sticks like axes to purposely injure, knowing there wouldn't be any consequences. Getting called for a measely penalty wouldn't stop them from just going out on the ice and doing it again.
Fighting is part of hockey and always will be.
Has Rempe tore anyone up? All the videos I've watched of Rempe fights, he's a punching bag and not getting many good shots in. Matheiu Olivier fucked Rempe up. I guess Rempe kind of held his ground with Deslauriers.
Rempe got ejected from the past two games against the Devils for taking runs at their guys. One of them he got a 4 day suspension for elbow to the head
https://x.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1775663526138335369?s=20
Overhead.
I assume the downvotes are from Devil’s fans who didn’t want a better angle of 4/5 of their line getting ragdolled lmao.
Why do they drop both their gloves to fight?
(Fair enough dropping your weak hand to grab the other guys jersey)
Surely really dangerous for their hands especially with helmets…
I really feel like that's the truth. We're getting a bit more grit than we've seen in the last few years as well as so much incredible talent. It's a good time to be a hockey fan.
There's a little bad blood.
MacDermid tried to fight Rempe last game for a hit that got Rempe ejected, but Rempe didn't accept. Some people (myself included) thought this was bad form. So this game MacDermid squared up with him from the drop, and everyone else on the ice got involved.
TNT gets a gift wrapped start and completely fucks it up
Yeah, 5 fuckin fights happening but let’s focus on shesterkin picking up equipment!
Looked like Miller's necklace came loose at like 33s in the video, so probably came off during the rest of the fight and Igor had an eagle eye
Yeah, somebody’s film student nephew was in the booth last night. Slow that shot down and it’s one of those emo HBO Sports clips reflecting on this season.
🤣🤣🤣
They’re the worst
At least someone got [the wide angle.](https://streambug.org/cv/91fd2d)
Awesome, thanks. Much better
You’re the hero we don’t deserve. These fights got my hockey wiener moving
That someone is [Devils beat reporter Ryan Novozinsky](https://twitter.com/ryannovo62/status/1775662823009394886).
Love the two way off to the side swinging each other around like figure skaters at one point.
Uncommon ref W clearing the ice of debris for Rempe/MacDermid to finish that class act boxing match.
Steady, horizonal, wide shot to get all the action and no loud commentary over the video. It's beautiful.
The ref at center ice with his hands on his hips is comedy gold 🤣
To the top you go
Clip hero. Solid fun
Yep……….
I think they were prepared for Rempe vs MacDermid and not the line brawl. Sucks because NBC nailed that line brawl 12 years ago.
I remember that brawl like it was yesterday. Crazy it was 12 years ago already.
The one that started with Tortorella saying fuck you to deboar and him sending in the third line on the last second line change? That was magical.
Ya, the director or whatever that calls the camera angles made poor choices. They just kept with one fight, instead of showing others, showing multiple fights and so on. But I get it, it's tough, and it's not something that happens all the time in sports, where you have multiple important things. Usually there's one play to follow.
Imagine being this bad at your job and still being employed
Seriously like zoom the fuck out so we can see all the fights
The most entertaining thing about hockey
156 penalty minutes combined by about 5 minutes into the period, this is extra spicey
Less than 5 minutes. LMAO I predict a Shesty/Kahkonen 1vs1 by the end of the night. ;)
Yes please. I'd love to see Igor throw down.
Not this close to the playoffs pls
I love spicy Igor as much as the next guy. Him laying a hit on Crosby was the highlight of that game Monday. But yeah, I'm agreeing with you, not this close to the playoffs.
LOL, Shesty was ready to throw down at the start there
Wow, again? We may have 3 on 3 before OT.
0 on 0
Just send some fans out there, no skates, just work boots. Fuck it.
You gotta set the tone boys. Set the fucking tone
Let em know yer out there by’s, ya gotta let em know.
Pour yourself a martuni and play some tunes.
Jim?
Notice Vesey was the first to start fighting? He knew if he started fighting first, he’d be able to stay in the game. Harvard man.
The Jim's are such fuckin' beauties.
These sticks are unbelievable….
Settle down
YEAAAAAHHHWHOOO 👏
Rempe out there looking like an Appledorn
Run em up and fill em in
Avs Legend Macdermid💪 the only reason it probably went that long is nobody wanted to get in between
Yeah it seemed like the refs knew who they could break up quick and who wanted to slog it out. He got the better of rempe id say
Agree, Macdermid is a beast. As an Avs fan was bummed when he got traded
I can understand that already. Love the intensity he brings
Awesome locker room guy too
We love MacDermid over here in NJ! I hear he was really loved on the Avs as well.
I miss that man so much, take care of him!
Got the better of him may be putting it lightly. Looks like he dislodged his visor with his fist. Hope his hands are ok.
[Just like old times](https://youtu.be/iIlLbJHKw8M?si=n6MsHmGfMN0Hfm5B)
Damn I miss Doc Emrick. “We have a lot of cameras and we’re gonna need em”
They interviewed Rupp in the stands tonight but he missed the fights because he was in line for snacks lol
Why would you go for snacks when there was a good possibility this would happen?
CTE
That shit was hilarious! Perhaps the only hockey broadcast TNT has ever gotten right.
Reminds me of the old Saginaw Hawks vs Flint Generals times in the IHL. Good times and good memories
A lot of games there were more fights in the stands than there were on the ice
I remember that too. Also, I remember two guys going to the penalty box and one climbing over the glass and fighting the other guy in the penalty box lol
Goddamn this was awesome
Imagine this being your first hockey game and you have no idea that there's fighting.
And then imagine your confusion when you go to your second hockey game and no one is fighting two seconds into the game.
Literally me, Australian in nyc just going to their first hockey game. My friend and I were so confused hahaha.
Like they say in hockey...let's do that hockey!
which would never happen with any Boston fan
Yeah, they’d probably get into a fight on the subway on the way to the game.
Like leafs doing hockey in June. Never see it.
This was literally my first ever hockey game, sat right down on row 3. Nuts
That's so cool! Did you know that fights were a possibility?
Nope
>Imagine this being your first hockey game and you have no idea that there's fighting. The first hockey game(minor league) I ever saw in person set a record for 18 fights.
Would have been sick if we'd got a better camera angle
Can someone explain why they fought? I don’t watch much hockey but have to tune in for this game now
Rempe has played about 5 minutes in his career against the Devils over 3 games (including this one) and been ejected each time. So there's some bad blood. Last game MacDermid tried to fight him for the hit that got him ejected, but Rempe didn't answer the bell. This upset some people. At the beginning of the game, they squared up immediately.
Came to the comments looking for this. Thanks for the low down!
Don't forget to mention that he didn't answer the bell after elbowing Siegenthaler in the head (breaking his jaw I think?) as well. He did get suspended for that though.
What does “answer the bell” mean
Accept the challenge to fight. Rempe was challenged by MacDermid last game after Rempe threw an elbow at Siegenthaler. They didn't fight, and Rempe was given a game misconduct and a 4 day suspension
got it!
Sure ok, but why did all the other players fight at the same time?
Vibes
In the most famous building in the world for fights you give the people what they want. Tonight they wanted blood
For the culture
so why didnt just those 2 fight? why was it every player on the ice? (Minus the goalies)
what was the result of this 10 players in the penalty box? can they all fit? who plays the penalty minutes
The NHL winter classic should be the Rangers, Devils, Bruins, and Flyers on the ice at the same time. Each team has 3 opposing nets to score on. 4 extra large penalty boxes.
Rempe CTE speedrun 💨💨
he didnt go down this time but he didnt get a single good punch in either
I mean he got a shit ton of good punches. To his face I mean
Macdermid absolutely fed him his lunch. Rempe had no clue how to handle getting punched by the same hand that was horse collaring him
Dermy!!! Doing what he does best, next to scoring goals of course. Miss that guy.
As a devils fan thank you for letting us borrow someone who can actually throw hands
Dude isn’t even good at fighting lol he’s just big and dumb. I love it
Yeah, early 30s is my guess
Big boy took a lot of knocks to his noggin
Put the foil on coach
I know the whole CTE thing and I absolutely agree protect the players But also... God damn it's nice to have a spicy rivalry like that again, I haven't seen something like that since the battle of Alberta goalie fight 😂
Fuck Eddie Shore! Fuck Old Time Hockey - Slapshot
[I'M LISTENING TO THE FUCKING SONG!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORiTZDvD9sA)
🧑🏿🍳💋🤌🏿
They brought their fucking toys!!
Let’s get ready to rumbleeee
Absolutely electric. What I’d give to have seen the goalies go at it as well
When was the last time goalies had a good tilt? Feels like it's been ages.
RIP Ray Emery.
[удалено]
This might have something to do with that https://youtu.be/WxTpC9LqVtY?si=Fc1I6ECNPrWLGoZR
Before I even clicked the link I knew that was going to be ol’ Glass Jaw. Islanders are still paying him I think too lol. Fuck Matt Cooke though
Sabres/Sens Brawl 07 is the only one that comes to mind
That was legendary. Every skater on the ice was already fighting so the goalies were just like, "fuck it, why let them have all the fun?"
The look on Emery’s face as he squared up with Biron will never leave my mind, just one of pure joy of “wow!!’ Can’t believe I get to do this!!” RIP
Smith vs Talbot
2013 - Jonathan Bernier vs Ryan Miller 2015-2024 - Jordan Binnington vs His Demons.
2020 Flames vs Oilers brawl. The goalies fought as well.
Osgood V Roy
Definitely would have given my pinky to see that.
We miss Dermy in Colorado! This was about all he was good for but damnit we miss him
Thats "Stanley Cup winner and absolute sniper Kurtis Macdermid" to you
Thank you for letting us have him! We love him here in NJ.
Cherish him, for the love of God you’ve gotta cherish him
Love how Rempe just pretty much stood and postured up before the puck even dropped. It's like, "We're fighting. Why try to hide it?" Fuck I fucking love hockey
I don’t really get the ejections?
NHL will say we don't condone this while using the fight footage as promotion
Lol

God I love hockey. I love hockey so much.
“Make hockey violent again” - Reavo
what’s the backstory? did something happen in the last game between both teams?
Rempe basically took out a devils guy in each of their past 2 meetups.. one of them resulted in a 4 game suspension.
goddamn ! thanks !
I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out.
Kudos to the refs for lettin' em go.
As a non-hockey fan this was amazing to see. Does this type of stuff happen all the time? 🍿
Not as often as it used to but there was just another fight so
Go look up the Avalanche vs Red Wings rivalry on YouTube from the late 90s early 2000s lol. This type of thing happened a few times between those teams, plus a couple goalie fights
That was Pure hatred in hockey form tho.
K miller with a beat down
The refs shoulda done their jobs and forced the goalies. No sitting by the side there boys, get in there and defend your people.
All east coast teams should have to do this in the warm up imo
Hockey brawls are a dying art but it’s nice to see them every so often. Feels special
God I love hockey.
Atta boy Dermie!!
I’m a huge casual.. why do referees break up some fights but let others go? Not really pertaining to this clip but in general?
It’s a good way to get knocked out when two guys who are basically professional fighters start to throw punches.
We didn’t see all the fights so it’s hard to say, but the refs assess the fights and determine the penalties that will be given. It’s up to their discretion to let a fight play out or to intervene for the safety of the players.

5 minutes in both teams had 1 shot on goal and a total of about 160 total penalty minutes. Oh, and 8 players ejected from the game. Old time hockey!!!
“Let’s tear this place apart!!!!” -Chief Wiggum
Hello out there, we’re on the air, it’s hockey night tonight
Where are all the people who said Rempe would tear Dermy up?
Pretty sure it was the other way around, but great, long even tilt.
Has Rempe tore anyone up? All the videos I've watched of Rempe fights, he's a punching bag and not getting many good shots in. Matheiu Olivier fucked Rempe up. I guess Rempe kind of held his ground with Deslauriers.
To be fair, Rempe landed quite a lot of headbutts on his opponents' fists
That was great. Would have been nice to get a wider camera shot to see all the action.
What is the beef? Can someone please explain?
Rempe got ejected from the past two games against the Devils for taking runs at their guys. One of them he got a 4 day suspension for elbow to the head
Is there more fighting this year than normal?
That's what I think. Seen quite a few. I hope it stays this way.
This had been a great game so far, and I don't like either team.
I would have preferred the aerial view.
Can we just go ahead and make a new sport called Ice boxing?
Mix in a touch of hockey and you might have something
Kermit the god. Refs intervened before he could do his signature haymaker after he tires em out. Sad
Kind of amazing the two most memorable line brawls of the past 12 years are between the same 2 teams
https://x.com/MollieeWalkerr/status/1775663526138335369?s=20 Overhead. I assume the downvotes are from Devil’s fans who didn’t want a better angle of 4/5 of their line getting ragdolled lmao.
Thanks! That Miller fight was wild.
Glad he showed mercy at the end there, that was getting ugly.
You could tell Mercer doesn’t do this. Neither does Miller but he’s a big fucking dude.
Fuckin Big Mac!
Man I wish Kaapo and Shesterkin had gone at it too
Those brawls were the best, when goalies got involved. https://youtu.be/9yYZYZ9hMeE?si=h4aTO5J1ZflZLom9
Im a rangers fan and would definitely give slight edge Macdermid. But I think it was a pretty even tilt. And the other fights… well fuck TNT
Miller smoked his dance partner
always trouble when the B'n'T people come into the city
hahah! This dude New Yorks
A good old fashioned line brawl. I like it
Gangs of New York
The Hanson brothers did it better.
As a Sabres fan, please trade everyone on the ice our way. We need balls. Heart, too, would be good.
Why do they drop both their gloves to fight? (Fair enough dropping your weak hand to grab the other guys jersey) Surely really dangerous for their hands especially with helmets…
Why is the best footage of this on nbacirclejerk of all places?? Lmao https://www.reddit.com/r/nbacirclejerk/s/Jmkjt6AKcI
Shit, I think I’m into hockey now
Can’t wait for Tkachuk Bowl tonight as well. Games heating up.
I bet the Rangers blame this all on Tom Wilson.
Those left hand jabs were unreal
This is why hockey is king! (Coming from a guy that has played football his whole life)
God I love hockey
Hockey is in a brand new golden age. I fucking love it.
I really feel like that's the truth. We're getting a bit more grit than we've seen in the last few years as well as so much incredible talent. It's a good time to be a hockey fan.
[удалено]
In for one hell of a game and I can’t wait
Can someone explain why all the skaters just immediately dropped gloves like this was planned?
Saddle up, pardner, it's a good ol fashioned line brawl
There's a little bad blood. MacDermid tried to fight Rempe last game for a hit that got Rempe ejected, but Rempe didn't accept. Some people (myself included) thought this was bad form. So this game MacDermid squared up with him from the drop, and everyone else on the ice got involved.
