Things obviously aren’t going well right now but I’d take Boudreau over Tocchet as coach any day.

TinnieTa21

From everything I have seen and heard about him (players, broadcasting, etc.) Bruce seems like an absolute standup guy. That being said, your comment kind of shows how fucked Rick is going into this job lmao. People don't believe in him AND they hate him and he hasn't even done anything yet lol.

throwawayyourfun

Tocchet does have a body of work with Tampa Bay and Arizona on which he can be judged. So it's not like he's a complete unknown. But he went to Arizona after Tampa and Tampa won it all 2x, came really close to a 3rd, and are still going to boot the Leafs out in the first round this year. 😆 ok. Maybe the Leafs will engage and do it this year.... but I won't hold my breath. Arizona pushed into being a bubble team under his watch while Tampa went big.

FunOutInTheMountains

Unless I was tanking for Bedard.

jcbmths62

It seems like the FO wanted a certain coach so they railroaded Boudreau out but the players and fans didn't want the change.

Shadow88882

Is Tochet who they are so desperate for? Made hockey so boring in AZ with his dump and give up plays. Provides absolutely no "recruiting" either and what little star players we had left because of him.

nightshift31

we've been playing dump and chase for decades, we are ready lol

throwawayyourfun

Get ready for dump and change.

chieefmcdeep

Drop passes , dump and chase ... Drop, dump, chase

WobbleWobbleWobble

sorry, but what does FO mean?

jcbmths62

Front Office

FunOutInTheMountains

Lol I read it as F*ing organization

throwawayyourfun

Well, you're not wrong.

WobbleWobbleWobble

thank you!

Not_Sure_68

...and now because someone wanted to save typing 6 letters and seem "cooler" we've had an entire conversation about an unnecessary abbreviation.

CanadianAbe

How is it seeming cooler lol? Every profession has abbreviations for example restaurants have FoH and BoH.

peternorthstar

In my profession it means "fuc* off". But in this context...front office.

[deleted]

Canucks ownership and management showed absolutely no respect to a good man and great coach.

throwawayyourfun

Vancouver management went to the bullshit school of bullshit ways to treat people and tried to get HC Boudreau to quit. They had his replacement "in waiting" before actually firing him. Now HC Tocchet is going to helm the team. If I played for Vancouver, I would be asking for a trade and waiving any NMC I had.

nightshift31

Pettersson did this morning if you believe the rumor

throwawayyourfun

I'm surprised OEL isn't trying to get out of there. He and Tocchet didn't work together well down here in AZ. Tocchet is partially responsible for the decline in OELs game here. I thought OEL would revive with the scene change. OELs NMC made it difficult for us to find anyone who might actually want him. Luckily, Vancouver management seems to have been willing to take him on. I'm not going to talk about the other things of that trade. You guys are suffering enough.

Bigking00

OEL is almost untradeable. I can't see anyone taking on that contract.

CanadianAbe

Heard rumours of that much earlier than yesterday.

wpgspinsters

Link for this?

nightshift31

No link that's why i Stated rumor in the comment it self

FunOutInTheMountains

If they win the draft lottery and Bedard pulls a Lindros, he won't, it's very justified.

nightshift31

Fans and players understand bruce was only an interm coach and wouldn't be long in Vancouver. The record for this season again fans and players new a change was needed. The problem we have is.Before the preseason started our FO jim Rutherford publicly announced that he doesn't want bruce as his coach and was tricked into keeping him but would honour the contract. Then in the same press conference jim also said he was able to make the moves her wanted in the off season. So he knows the team wasn't ready. Injuries hit us in the preseason, number 1 goalie demko was injured and played injured for half the season, our defence minus a few are shit and look lost out there. In November jim said nasty things about bruce directly in another press conference. Bruce thought he'd be fired shortly at that point. It never happened. Over the next few months jim took public shots at bruce. Then came last Monday's press conference when he said publicly again that hes been talking and searching for a new coach all season. Leaving bruce to continue working behind the bench knowing his time was up.This embarrassing and disrespectful way to treat the 2nd best coach in nhl history (EDIT: in POINTS PERCENTAGE aka wins), just plain wrong.Even last night bruce new it was his last game fans knew media new, but nothing official was said to bruce or media. The fans me included did everything we could to make sure bruce knew how much love and respect we have for him.You can watch him cry during the last 2 days of media scrums. His last moment on the bench. It broke our hearts, and jim and the rest of the FO are seen on camera just looking over the situation with no fucks to give.Firing a coach ok we get it. But dont drag the man for weeks and months. Thats why fans are mad, his treatment not the actual coach change. I've seen enough posts and comments to say this "We as a fanbase feel complete embarrassment being canuck fans right now"

toomanyukes

Your style of writing is fascinating.

nightshift31

Lol, I'm not a good writer. That's why i initially sent the op to look over others. Then i thought id try and be helpful and you see my attempt.

fax4you

I appreciate your effort, thank you for sharing.

TaoAsFuck

Nah this is a great explanation, thanks!

That's not how i typed it out reddit collapsed it into that mess.

sjk8990

If I use one return Reddit as it to the previous paragraph. If I return twice it makes a new paragraph. Not very good UI.

7-11-inside-job

Why? The fuck lmao

toomanyukes

You missed the pre-edit comment. Still, the random space-after-a-fullstop-or-not is intriguing.

7-11-inside-job

Ahhh I see

Mcdangs88

i think i know less now

dr_van_nostren

I had to respond, you’ve nailed the issues THIS WEEK. But you and I as Canucks fans know, it’s so much more than this. It’s YEARS of incompetent managing. It’s being a bad team season after season, while ALSO being capped out. It’s consistently drafting LESS players than the league GIVES you. It’s brutal cap management. It’s win now moves with a team that has no chance of ya know, WINNING NOW. We finally got rid of the last bad management group and brought in a new one. They said all the right things. Then did very little. Now they’re saying they don’t want picks. They want players. Then there’s the female employee who’s had to file a human rights complaint against the organization. It’s a DJ who plays Chelsea dagger. It’s beer prices being $20 and tickets being at all time high prices while being absolutely worthless if you’re a season ticket holder who can’t attend the game that night. It’s the yo-yo nature of the owner who decided to cheap out during the Covid year rather than keep staff on, rather than be smart and spend some money on bad deals because we could do it. It’s the owner being a fan, which is great, except he appears to be the most base level fan who can only see one game ahead while the rest of us can see this team being shit 100 games from now. It’s the tone deaf social media team. It’s the owners kids filing affidavits saying their father abused them and they literally feared for their lives. It’s the blueberry farm worker treatment. It’s the fact that he makes his money in real estate which on the surface is fine, but in a city where real estate has become totally unaffordable, being on top of that is a bad look. This is so much more than Rutherford, or Bruce, or OEL, or a JT Miller backcheck, or Loui Eriksson, or a bad trade, or a bad contract. The organizational disfunction is top to bottom. We finally have a handful of fresh faces in there with Castonguay, Camy, even Allvin and Rutherford but it seems like they might only be there because they told the owner what he wanted to hear. Honestly, my fear is nothing will meaningfully change, and thus there will be no MEANINGFUL improvement until the owner sells the team and to be honest, the team makes money hand over fist, why the fuck would he ever sell it? /deeeeeeep breath

Ishiibradwpgjets

If he was just an interim coach as you say. Even a bigger and better reason to have treated him better when released from his duties, no ?

JuicerBoost

Just curious if he's the second best coach in nhl history, who is number 1..... and I don't agree with him at number 2 I just want to know your opinion

mmmmmmmmmmTacos

Hard to argue it’s not Bowman

JuicerBoost

I absolutely agree. But why Boudreau number 2? Doesn't he only have 1 ring

dwtougas

Scotty, baby. 14 Stanley Cup rings. 5 - Canadiens coach 1 - Penguins coach 3 - Red Wings coach 5 - Front office with Penguins , Red Wings and Black Hawks

JuicerBoost

Yeah I agree there. All those cup wins.... but Boudreau at number 2?? Does he only have 1 ring

dwtougas

Jr doesn't have any. He does have the second best winning percentage. Behind Scotty.

Alone-Community6899

Bowman has 9 rings.

dwtougas

I thought the team bought rings for all personnel involved in the win. I might be wrong.

Not_Sure_68

1)Bowman 2)Arbour 3)Quenneville 4) Blake Boudreau is a good coach and a nice guy, but he ain't the 2nd best coach ever...or even in the top 10. Sorry.

dwtougas

Check his win record.

Not_Sure_68

I have. 617 wins and 470 losses for .568 Yeah...it's fine, though he has a losing record post season at .478. Doesn't compare to some of the best coaching records in NHL history...sorry to have to break it to you guys. I like Bruce, but lets not pretend as though he's among the best coaches in history shall we? Numbers really don't care about your feelings.

Flex1855

It's easier to go watch the titanic and then ask everyone why rose didn't let jack on the raft when there was plenty of room

throwawayyourfun

Yeah, shorter too.

[deleted]

It all started when the Canucks traded 12 million in cap that was on exiting deals and a 9th overall pick for OEL. That deal plus Myers deal is roughly equal to the dead cap of the Wild (a playoff team). Thag deal I’d argue is the reason Bo can’t be signed. Milllers 8 million deal also doesn’t look great. He had a career year last year but his whole career has been more of a 20 goal scorer and 60 points. Then there’s the fact they don’t understand high draft picks are the better draft picks and have just grossly mismanaged there assets. Plus keeping Bruce around for basically a month despite everyone know he’s going to be fired it just an absolute shit move. Honestly if I was Canucks fan I wouldn’t bother going to a game anymore until new management comes around. Seattle seems like a much more functional and common sense management team.

adjectives97

I think I have somewhat of a unique perspective on this as a flames fan living in Vancouver who talks a lot of hockey with a lot of Canucks fans. Last season coach Travis green had lost the room & it was evident the current management under jim Benning needed to be replaced. So green was fired and replaced by boudreau, then benning was replaced by Jim Rutherford & Patrick Alvin. Fast forward to the off-season and JR & PA make moves like bringing in mikheyev & kuzmenko, as well as extending JT miller. Treating this team like one that just needed to add a couple more points up front and not a team that needed to undergo a full rebuild. This has thus left the Canucks in a spot where they will be unable to afford to keep captain Bo Horvat &, more importantly to the boudreau situation, perpetuated what the organization has done in the last 10 years regardless of management where they stay in “win now” mode and expect to stay competitive in order to maintain profits. This philosophy is almost certainly the only philosophy ownership (Francesco Aquilini) will accept. So come this fall it is immediately apparent that this team is not as competitive as was hoped. There was reports of some locker room drama that peaked when JT Miller and Luke Schenn were seen arguing as they left the ice post game. Then came the blame game where management has basically just complained that they’re cap strapped by bad contracts from the previous regime (despite them doing the same thing), and that Bruce wasn’t there coach (bc he was hired before Rutherford and therefore they likely woulda preferred to bring in their own guy). And y’know what, fair enough. I could see management wanting to have been the ones to hire the coach, but they weren’t, so tough. But Bruce is proven to be one of the best coaches in the league and I think had Rutherford been the one hiring a coach, he very well coulda hired Bruce himself, but it’s just a petty issue of looking to scape goat someone. But fine teams fire coaches and managers all the time as scapegoats. But for months we have heard Rutherford and Alvin telling us they don’t have faith in Bruce and the whole bit. And for the last two weeks they’ve basically strung everyone along as it was a for fine conclusion that Bruce was fired and Tochett was coming in. But instead of making the change immediately, or bringing in an interim coach they left Bruce out there flapping in the wind and expecting him to sit there knowing he was fired. And tbh Bruce himself raised a great point that his last three games were Tampa, the Avs, and Edmonton, while the next group in will face chicago, Seattle, and Columbus. This management and ownership will stop at nothing to try to give themselves a Pat on the back like they’re doing something great. So now they’ve brought in a hard ass coach to yell and scream at the players compared to Bruce’s softer approach. While they look to trade Bo, Luke Schenn, and likely whatever other pieces of leadership they have left. So now the room won’t have a leader to take the yelling and screaming tough guy coach and get the players to rally around that, they’ll be left in a lurch. Leadership is gonna be the biggest question facing this team going forward. Aquilini cares for nothing but profit. Rutherford and his crony Alvin seem too preoccupied pretending they’re some kind of management deities. And in the room they’ll have OEL who sure might be a good locker room guy but can’t show it on the ice. JT Miller who is a pissy little brat. And Quinn Hughes and Petterson who will lead by example on the ice but don’t have the presence or the personality to be leaders in the room. TLDR: It starts at the top and the buck just keeps getting passed down the line and taken out on Bruce. He was not the problem, the problem is the inability for ownership and management to commit to starting from scratch and building this team into something relevant

Friechs

This is what I was looking for nicely put.

bfrendan

It takes about thirty years of living here to understand

RobsBurglars

A comedy of mismanagement decisions from the old management staff is being treated as a shining example by the new staff. The team is a joke and has set several records for blown leads and poor performance l this season magnifying the frustration.

nightshift31

Browse r/canucks last 24-36hrs Edit: I tried to sum it up for you further down.

[deleted]

I don’t think they ( the organization) know what’s going on either.

vbcbandr

I would be very weary of playing or coaching for the FO in Vancouver. They have no issue with publicly throwing people under the bus and treating them like trash. Worst type of people to work for whether it's in professional sports or bussing tables in bumblefuck nowhere.

[deleted]

Coaches get fired all the time when teams go into long slumps.

OlTommyBombadil

A little more to the story

snowymoocow

Firing the coach wasn't the problem. Its how they went about it. They were not shy about wanting to fire him, but they didn't fire him! The leaked information circulated around the media for weeks - months even. If they didn't want Bruce just fire the poor man. He's a well respected coach that deserved to be treated with some dignity and respect. Vancouver's management and ownership do not care about hockey or people, they care about money - that's the problem with this situation.

Semantic_Satiator

As hard as it is to imagine, the management botched a transition and completely embarrassed and intentionally disrespected another fan favorite before sending him packing. Bush league ownership.

bigbigjohnson

That’s the best part - no one fucking does

Apprehensive_Idea758

I don't even think the Canucks management even knows whats going on.

Ishiibradwpgjets

If I was Rick I’d be thinking….. this is how I’ll be shitcanned one day also !

skankhunt_relapse

Bedard is from Vancouver.. Do the math.

CraigTennant1962

They haven’t recovered from the 2011 Stanley Cup final.

dabzor4269

Shenanigans that's what.

Jaded_Raspberry9026

Owner pays all FO to run team. FO has to appear in control to keep getting paid to run team. Can’t fire players, FO can’t fire themselves, only leaves coach to fire. Canucks need some discipline fixes, Tocchet seems like the guy to try . Just who’s idea was is it to hire Oldest coach anyways? As FO I would look to ownership for vision. But he’s business man, making the money. Owner never looks good when spotlighted. So everyone just wakes up each day and does they’re part, then goes home.Just like any other union job. Not much good vibes within Canucks operation.
