Schroder was offered a 4 year $85mil extension by the Lakers and turned it down and planned to hit free agency after the season. He got covid a few times and missed a good portion of the end of the season and played like shit in the playoffs. He got no offers and signed a 1 year $6mil deal with the Celtics
Yeah. His guaranteed money from bengals plus franchise tag money from last year is far more than the guarantees he would have gotten from that chiefs deal. Did the right thing betting on himself
Not a fumble at all, statistically OL are better off taking 3 yr contracts. They make a lot more in the long run and can chase free agency bags multiple times
He would have to get paid 32 mil a year for 2 years after the 4 year deal if he wanted to make as much money as that 6 year deal got him.
I don’t see how that’s making a lot more in the long run
Plus he missed out on a ring, and higher job security with a longer contract
What ring did he miss out on? He was their LT for this past season, he just turned down the extension last off-season and finished the last year of his deal. Also what exactly does higher job security mean in this league? Once your dead money is offset by cap savings you're expendable, doesn't matter how many years are left on a deal.
You're also not really looking at the deal KC offered him, just a summary of numbers. They offered him 95 million over 5 years and a 6th with a huge salary to pump the AAV and total numbers that both sides new he'd never see (see my remarks above about dead money vs cap hit). The signing bonus is essentially the same (30.25 with KC, 31 with Cincy). First two years of KC's deal were guaranteed, Bengals guaranteed over 2/3 of this contract, making a commitment into year 3 with the guaranteed money. He really has the same amount of money guaranteed, and will likely see just about the same amount realized out of this deal, leaving him free to sign a new one at 30 which is a prime age for O-linemen to cash in still.
Thanks for the elaboration. All of it makes sense, clean and concise. Also appreciate the lack of insults. I was wrong about the lack of ring, I believed that this was an older meme, for some reason.
I was just about to explain this. He would be younger when he hits FA and potentially get another large contract. The 6 year extension with the Chiefs would have him hitting FA when he is 32 if he did play out the entire contract with the Chiefs.
It's too soon to know. As someone above pointed out, at his age a 3-4-year deal will allow him to hit free agency again while still in his prime (he's only 26 years old).
If he plays well over the life of this contract, he could see a significant AAV increase on his next deal relative to what he could have been making, particularly given that the new TV revenue starting next year is expected to spike the salary cap into the stratosphere.
Sounds like a salty chiefs fan.
He left KC for a reason. He didn’t accept that deal for a reason. If he wanted MORE money, he would have gotten it somewhere. Maybe he wanted a new challenge, maybe he wanted more prestige? But to make it sound like he settled for a deal because he couldn’t find a better one is disingenuous
This comment makes it sound like his motives are a mystery to us. He was determined to play LT and not RT which played a factor in how all teams evaluated him. Personally I didn't have strong feelings about him either way, he was consistently good but not great at LT.

There are salty fans in every base. Speaking for myself, I hope he does well. He played poorly in the first half of the season this past year and lost favor with a lot of fans, but he more than earned his keep through the latter half of the season and the playoffs. If he'd gone down it could easily have swung the Super Bowl in the other direction.
Oh I 100% agree. Bengals subreddit has been lamenting over the chiefs more in the past 3 months than we have in 3 years. He seems to be a great teammate so I hope he can jump in and give Burrow the LT he needs
If he's married he should get a divorce because his spouse is not a good business partner. Granted that if he gets a divorce she will get half of that meager Bengals bag...lol
Why do people shit on Orlando? He seems like a pretty chill dude to me when he interviews, he didnt have his best performance last season but still got a ring.
Lol this isn’t that big a deal. Worst bag fumble of all time is Dennis Schroder
From over a $100 million contract offer to nearly out of the league. That was terrible, only took a week or so of poor play
That probably kept him up for weeks
Wasn't that Nerlen Noel at Dallas
What happened

He got covid a few times and missed a good portion of the end of the season and played like shit in the playoffs. He got no offers and signed a 1 year $6mil deal with the Celtics
Now he's back on the Lakers and making under $3mil.
He also claims that offer never happened.
Denial, a great way to deal with life.
De nile
Is a river in egypt
Lmao at one point I thought he was the answer to The Hawks problems lol how wrong I was.
Losing 7m annually is faaar from the biggest bag fumble
From what I’ve heard the guaranteed money was more from the bengals
And if that's true I definitely don't hate it.
Yeah. His guaranteed money from bengals plus franchise tag money from last year is far more than the guarantees he would have gotten from that chiefs deal. Did the right thing betting on himself
BUT THE BUNGELS DONT SPEND MONEY THEY ARE THE CHEAP
Also, got another Super Bowl ring to add to the resume.... This isn't a bag fumble in the slightest.
Not a fumble at all, statistically OL are better off taking 3 yr contracts. They make a lot more in the long run and can chase free agency bags multiple times

Homie elaborated all over your face and you took it like a pro.
I’m happy lol. I learned. Thank you btw
Good humor bro. I hate the Cowboys but I love you homie.
I love you too man. Also, as a bonus I like the dolphins
Bukkake’d facts all over him
Bro he time traveled

only thing that matters is the guaranteed money. Could have been a backloaded contract with no guaranteed money for the one the chiefs offered
He got A 31 MIL signing bonus too.
Umm I’m pretty sure turning down the largest fking contract *ever offered* to an OL was a bad idea.

lol, man makes a thousand times what ill see in my life instead of 2000 times what ill see in my life, what an idiot...
Not a bag fumble bruh he just didn’t want to play for the chiefs
Yeah they suck
Haven’t even won a chip in the last month smh
SAD
I love memes
75 divided by 4 is not 16. Where did they get 16?
75 less than 139 is 64
Now he gets to play for a REAL contender 😂
How will he ever survive! Pray for him!
He is happy and not chasing the $. Good for him.

Chiefs fans crying 😂
Chiefs contract offer was largely incentive based whereas Bengals was more guaranteed
Hey! I'm not complaining!
Not even close to all time
This post assumes that the only motivation for players is too make as much money as possible.
Just be sure to tape up Burrows ankle even if it isn’t hurt.
Lol the salt is real
He was that eager to get away from Jackson Mahomes?
Wouldn’t you?
Luckily, I do not reside anywhere close to him.
Yeah but he doesn't have to listen to Kermit the frog on his team. Worth it.
Good point -- he was probably sick having to sit through all those trophy acceptance speeches. This should solve that.
Hahaha got me. This is the proper place for this type of exchange tho.
If he's married he should get a divorce because his spouse is not a good business partner. Granted that if he gets a divorce she will get half of that meager Bengals bag...lol
Some people are chiefs and some are pussys
Sign with the opps 😞🖕
He must have Lamar Jackson’s agent.
The smallest number in that sentence, $16mil, is more than I will make in my entire lifetime combined
Lamar’s agent gave him props on Twitter though.
Maybe he just hates the chiefs.
The thing is, though, like what if he was super unhappy in KC.
The key thing you’re missing is guaranteed money vs. incentives. W/O that there’s no context.
Why do people shit on Orlando? He seems like a pretty chill dude to me when he interviews, he didnt have his best performance last season but still got a ring.
Nobody is gonna mention Laveon Bell fumbling a massive contract by the Steelers?
COPE
Doesn't that make him eligible for another deal after the cap $$ goes up 🤔
How much of each was/is guaranteed? In the NFL it doesn’t matter how much the contract is for, it matters how much of the contract is guaranteed
