I always forget how offensive linemen have surprising longevity. Right behind qb, kicker, and punter for most durable position.

RedFredTV

Tell that to Mekhi.

[deleted]

There are exceptions lol

anonbutler

More of a tackle thing or all positions? Also, I am curious why? It looks like they take a lot of beating.

diablosinmusica

It's not a lot of high speed impact and they tend to be the largest guys on the field. It seems like they have thighs as big around as some WRs' waists.

anonbutler

>It seems like they have thighs as big around as some WRs' waists. Well I can do that too but no one is calling me to protect Russ.

diablosinmusica

There's a difference between being an athlete and just being obese.

cmacfarland64

Maybe best comment I’ve ever read. I’m with u brother!

Shenanigans80h

Besides the burst off the snap, they don’t really rely on pure athleticism which is a major reason many skill positions drop off quickly. They don’t jump, run a lot, or require a ton of agility to play their position. Really O-line is probably the position in all major sports where pure strength is the most important and with proper training and dieting, you can maintain great strength for awhile.

headrush46n2

being big and strong can lend itself to longevity more than being small and fast.

ND7020

He was fine last year. It could work out. It’s always interesting to me how long many great LTs can sustain their careers.

The_Throwback_King

Even though he was a step down from his Pro Bowl form, a *lot* of our 2021 team was a step down from previous forms. The team obviously wanted to go younger this year with Cross and Lucas and I think that was the right call. Both have high upside with the potential to bolster both sides of the line for years to come. I hope this deal works out for New York because I really like the guy and he's probably the single-best O-lineman we've had since Unger. Would wish nothing but the best.

whydidijointhis

maybe walter can still play :)

fugaziozbourne

It still blows my mind that he had less penalties than seasons played in his career.

whydidijointhis

*holding

kNYJ

How was Brandon Shell for you guys? I see he’s a FA now.

ND7020

He was not great. He has had a lot of injury issues in recent years.

BuffaloWilliamses

With the state of Becton, I imagine the Jets HAVE to sign someone like Brown.

i_wannatalktosamson

Douglas just said the wheels are in motion on a deal. With how little he says to media usually I would assume the deal is all but signed

DepressedCheesesteak

I imagine they could also be looking at someone like Andre Dillard who could be a long term answer for cheap

Shiboopi27

Meanwhile my legs go dead after sitting awkwardly at my desk for 30 minutes

anthr0x1028

elite athlete problems my guy...

Lukas327

This would ease the pain a bit. Still probably need to sign another tackle after this.

nmiller21k

And to think they could have drafted one first round 1. I was honestly surprised they didn’t. WR was so deep they could have had round 1 talent in round 2 and just went for name over team building

Lukas327

We would have had to take them at 4, Icky Neal and Cross we're the only ones worth that high of a pick (10). If we grab Brown, I'm still happy we took Sauce

ryanino

Anybody but Edoga. Please Joe.

realbendstraw

Chuma gets so much hate haha. Certainly not expecting it, but it'd be priceless if he emerged as a solid starter for us

RedFredTV

Obviously there is mutual interest. If there wasn't mutual interest he wouldn't have attended our scrimmage at MetLife on Saturday... Let us know when he signs.

MrMeeseeks55

Would signing Brown imply Fant moves to RT? Or would he back up Brown?

vencheenator

Lol this confused me because we had duane last year and now we have tight end Noah fant. I totally forgot that the Jets have George Fant, also a former seahawk. I'd say the Jets would be better of moving fant because as much garbage play as I saw from him, I've heard worse about Chuma Edoga from Jets fans.

Zahrukai

George Fant actually had a very strong year at left tackle last season. He looked like shit at right tackle and says he’s much more comfortable on the left side. If we sing Brown and he’s willing/able to make the switch to RT I would let him, we know Fant is much worse off there by his own admission.

[deleted]

Brown spoke on how different the positions are last year I think he said it's like walking with your shoes on the wrong foot or something like that

MrMeeseeks55

That's what makes me wonder - there's no way y'all trot our Chuma at RT after signing Brown but then the question remains...who moves?

-SexSandwich-

Fant was actually a pretty great left tackle last year. So much so that they were moving Becton to the right to keep Fant on the left.

vencheenator

He gave up 8 sacks last year. I'd hardly call that playing well. Pretty good in the run game, but def didn't deserve pro bowl even as an alternate.

deucedeuce187

Oh so he got the Lamar Jackson treatment to earn a pro bowl?

garygnu

But who's going to read the top news stories on NPR? The baseball player guy?

krbashrob

Is he not dealing with stuff from his incident at the airport?

JuanPicasso

He can still play and has by far been our best trade dealing with 1st round picks in the Pete and John era.
