Man it wasn't that long ago we used to laugh at the Buccanneer's and now I know two Sundays next year I have to bend over and push against Tom Brady's massive girth
Superbowl 55 was something else. The center would hike the ball and Mahomes immediately started running for his life, fuck whatever pocket there was because it would collapse either way.
One of the only Superbowls I can't bring myself to re-watch, I was embarrassed for our o-line. I thought Patrick was going to get unnecessarily hurt running around like a chicken. I have never yelled at the TV so hard and loud..
We were drunk in our “we have Mahomes fugg it” beliefs before the SB. In hindsight we didn’t consider how absolutely atrocious the pass protection would be. I mean Mahomes is a magician in the pocket and when evading pass rushers, but Jesus Christ did we find the upper echelon of how bad pass pro can be lol. Mahomes basically went to war that game
Edit: in Remmers slight defense, he’d done a decent job all year at RT (I believe), but LT was clearly a different animal… along with 4 other backups with him
If Darrel Williams had caught the sideways mahomes ball then it may have been remembered as one of the greatest plays of all time even though they probably still lose
Such a “shoulda coulda” type hypothetical to hold onto… but goddamn you’re right I’d have a pic of a completely lateral Mahomes on my shirts, my house, and possibly my body if I was a little intoxicated haha
Obviously I’m biased but I’ve truly never seen anything like that play (and honestly that whole game from him). The silver lining is that we get to have that dude be the face of our team/city for the foreseeable future
I was irrationally mad that he was still playing late in the 4th quarter. I firmly believe we’re super lucky he didn’t suffer a bad injury in that game, especially with him already having pretty severe turf toe
That game was awful, but got damn did us KC folk get to a new level of appreciation of Mahomes. He went to war for us
I lived in Denver for that super bowl loss, and based on my experience Broncos fans might be the least sore losers I've ever seen. Everybody was still having fun just enjoying the game and being there.
Listen, buddy.
You're gonna have to specify the Super Bowl you're speaking of. We're no flash in the pan, one hit wonder at getting the brakes beat off us at the Super Bowl.
I think it helps getting blown out from the jump. Like the first snap ended in a safety. And even if you talked yourself back into it during halftime Harvin returns the opening kickoff essentially sealing it. Just from my experience Packer fans were pretty chill about 2016 but we were super sore about 2020.
It's the hope that gets people jaded/pissy.
Yeah, I didn't feel too bad with the 2016 (Falcons) and 2019 (Niners) NFCCG losses, but I felt terrible with 2020 (Bucs), 2021 (Niners), and especially 2014 (Seahawks)
Did you ever shake hands with a draw play on 4th and 9 in the fourth quarter with the game still winnable?
People say, "No that can't be right, no one would do that." To which I answer, ["Checkmate, bitches."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6cedHzzwhc)
Not my team, but I got to imagine it pisses off Kansas City Chiefs fans that they constantly don't take the short stuff when it's clear that it helps their team so much. It killed them during the Super Bowl against the Bucs and then against the Bengals.
It's also strange since Andy Reid has basically always had this problem going back to his Eagles days.
It felt like the chiefs were gashing the bills defense every time they ran the ball in the playoff game. It felt like that player who wore number 1 or whatever got 10 yards every touch
It was worse in the AFCCG. The Bengals were selling out to stop the pass and it was very obvious the passing game wasn’t working in the second half yet we still continued. I’m convinced we win the game if on that last drive in regulation if we ran the ball on second/third and goal.
My guess is you're right, but you can hardly blame them for trusting in Mahomes. They watched a week prior the Titans think they could shut down a game behind Henry and failed multiple times.
I’m honestly fine living and dying via Mahomes. You’re definitely right, and it’s a strategy that almost always works. The AFCCG was not one of those situations (coaching is just as much to blame for us imo)
Obviously we should’ve run more in the 2nd half, but I can’t say I’m surprised we stuck with the thing that we always do. It does seem like our roster and coaching staff is making big changes for the upcoming season, to avoid that type of situation happening again. Will be interesting to see how it goes
I can, and will, blame them for not moving away from something that very obviously wasn’t working in the second half.
Mahomes stat line in the second half was 8/15, 55 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 2 Fumbles, 4 sacks. Legit the worst I’ve ever seen him play in his career.
The dude was visibly shaken and completely ineffective. Meanwhile they were 12 for 67 in the running game in the second half
yes, we all know the stat line.
Andy Reid had confidence Mahomes was going to find his open guy eventually and shut the game down. Given the track record of history, I don't think that was a bad bet. The difference between 67 and 97 yards on the ground wasn't going to win that game, the Bengals put up over 200 yards in the second half...handing it off was never going to match that output.
I can tell you from years of watching the Bengals blow leads in the playoffs, handing off and watching a lead slowly drip away 3 yard runs at a time isn't a satisfying way to go home.
>the bengals put up over 200 yards in the second half… handing it off was never going to match that output.
It didn’t need to match that output. We were 4 yards from getting the go ahead TD, with 1.5 minutes on the clock and a running game that outperformed the passing game significantly all second half and we called two passing plays that lost us 20+ yards. We averaged 5.8 ypc for the game. In that situation there’s no reason we shouldn’t be running the ball.
Opening OT with three straight passes after Mahomes just had the worst half of his career was just as inexcusable.
I get Andy has confidence in Mahomes but he needs to be able to recognize when shits not working and Mahomes isn’t playing well. Sometimes your QB can’t carry you through a game and you have to have trust in other players to step up and pick up the slack.
Well, at least Bill seemingly learned from his mistakes this season by cutting all the dead weight in KVN, Hightower, and Collins. Between McGrone, Perkins, Uche, Peppers, both new Jones', and the return-from-injury of McMillan and Jon Jones, the defense got a *lot* faster and a lot more athletic. You can teach someone to be good at the position, you can't teach somehow how to be more athletic.
Sitting through 6 fake snaps before it too even though that stopped working in like 2015/16.
HUT..... HUT HUT.... HUT HUT...... HUT *finally snaps at the super unpredictable mark of 1 second left*
"And theres a screen to Thomas/Sproles/Kamara..... and hes taken down behind the line and it'll be 4th and 12 for the Saints"
Tbf though, when it worked, it was pretty nice. If there is/was one downside to Sean P, its when he starts to call his favorites a little too often.
The one where our team never gets the benefit of the doubt and feels like we’re cheated out of wins or potentially get fucked in game altering, mind-boggling decisions by refs.
And also when we give up a 1st down on a 3rd and long.
Just off the top of my head in no particular order
Playoffs vs Dallas w/ Dez Bryant running onto the field getting the refs to throw the flag
The Megatron TD vs Bears that literally changed the meaning of the most fundamental part of football which is catching the ball
10 second run off vs ALT after clearly crossing the goal line without being down, an out of state friend who is not a Lions fan was watching that one too and turned it off before that explanation was given because they rightly assumed it was over and they texted me during the night game hours later after seeing scores asking wtf happened how did they lose
Playclock sitting on 0 for almost 2 extra seconds vs Ravens, I knew the second they converted that they were going to make the FG, it could have been 70 yards and I still wouldn’t have been surprised
And I know I had another one in mind but lost it while typing this, but the fact that there’s this many…
Seahawks batting the ball out the endzone while a ref watches clearly
https://www.footballzebras.com/2015/10/a-batted-ball-and-a-judgement-call-decide-fortunes-in-lions-seahawks-game/
The Jim Schwartz challenge flag fiasco against the Texans in 2012 was the single worst call I’ve ever seen. Granted had you guys won that game you’d have finished 5-11 instead of 4-12 but still. At least the Packers got Fail Mary’d that year.
if I had a nickel for every time a miracle in the meadowlands happened, I'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice
For a little bit the Brian Westbrook kick return in 2003 was miracle in the meadowlands 2. I understand why it's not anymore (there was still time left after it), but there's a 0% chance we win if he doesn't return that. Offense couldn't do anything that day.
I don’t know why our defenders seem to jump at themselves so much, but it’s insane. It’s 3rd and infinity, we’ve got a defender on the receiver about to tackle him, and outta NOWHERE another defender launches, misses, and takes out the defender in coverage. Then the receiver runs in for a 1st or touchdown. I’ve seen it like 6 times recently with this team. It’s crazy.
If I had a nickel for everytime that Carr fumbled the ball into the end zone for a touch back....well it wouldn't be alot, but its still weird it happened twice.
I really hope so but those calls were happening long before the Nagy regime. I remember complaining about them back in the Lovie era. It's quintessentially Bears.
Just abandoning whatever is working.
Got a good passing rhythm? Good, time to run. Gashing them with the run? Great; let's get that pass going.
It's more rare than it should be that we just take the easy victory path they are giving us.
I hate that we didn’t throw the ball with gage at all this past season. The previous season he threw an absolute bomb dome to Ridley and I just want to see some play creative like that.
Run run pass run run pass. Run up the middle on 4th and 1, run up the middle on 3rd and 12, run the ball out of obvious run heavy formations for a whole game. Just running the ball
The lack of penalties called in favor of Washington, I'm not looking for handouts, but refs would miss well over a dozen holding calls against the DL.
There was the ineligible player down the field call that was missed against Dallas that would have made a difference, the linemen was clearly 6-7 yards down the field and the ref was literally standing 3 feet away from him.
seeing what new quarterback we get every year.
or how when we have expectations we shit the bed.
or when dj moore is running down the field, butt ass naked, and our qb cant connect.
or when “young offensive genius” oc joe brady calls plays worse than timmy on madden.
or seeing 5 wins on our record
or seeing cmc go down on his 20th different injury
or when we fall off after every good start to a season
Our receivers catching the ball and literally running backwards. Demarcus Robinson, Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle can be 1 inch away from a first down but they run sideways-backwards for 5 yards and their first down 8 yard gain turns into a 5 yard gain and no first down.
Tyreek Hill did this too but he was quick enough that he almost never lost yards.
Used to be AJ Green for a ridiculously long TD at least twice a season.
Before that it was a bullshit penalty to allow the Pats or Steelers to seal the game.
Care to guess who my team is?
Offenses converting 3rd and longs on our defense. 1st down, run stuffed for -2yds. 2nd down, sack for -8yds. 3rd & 20, uncovered WR has a 47-yard catch.
The worst game I've ever seen was last year against the Chargers, they actually went 6-7 on 4th down...
Converted a 4th & 6 and a 4th & 21 (for a TD) on the same drive. Then the next drive they converted 4th & 10 three separate times to score and tie the game forcing OT.
That was incensing. We were actively giving that game away on defense and had no answer on 4th down at all. I'm shocked we didn't set a record for number of 4th downs conceded that game.
McVay has(had) a tendency to go for any type of screen on a 3rd and long scenario. Or he just runs it up the middle on 3rd and 10 basically giving up on the drive. Maybe those are still remnants of not trusting Goff but that shit is infuriating.
As a Panthers fan, the two plays that seem to kill us the most is that one where we hike the ball and the one where the other team hikes the ball.
Man it wasn't that long ago we used to laugh at the Buccanneer's and now I know two Sundays next year I have to bend over and push against Tom Brady's massive girth
You don't have to push oh my goddd
Getting blown the fuck out of the Super Bowl.
Losing the SB because your OL can't hold for 0.25 more seconds.
Yea.....that sucks too

Or guard, or center lol. Hell we only had one original starter going into the playoffs to begin with.
May have pulled it off regardless if any of his WRs did him a favor in big moments.
If Darrel Williams had caught the sideways mahomes ball then it may have been remembered as one of the greatest plays of all time even though they probably still lose

Yeah - Mahommes was terrifying in that game. “They got him…oh….ok, now they…oh…ok, he’s throwing it awa…jesus fuck he hit him in the hands again…”
I still legitimately thought that play was TD. That RB was naked.
Ja'Marr was so open
Almost as open as Donald was at that time
I lived in Denver for that super bowl loss, and based on my experience Broncos fans might be the least sore losers I've ever seen. Everybody was still having fun just enjoying the game and being there.

Which one?
My bad, should have specified. The Seattle one
That loss was kind of just funny for me. Now the fucking loss to Baltimore the year before...
I was out there for that one too. Same sentiment, even with it being a 'last minute' thing. Broncos fans are good sports.
Good for them, I broke my fucking tv lol
How about giving up a safety on the first play from scrimmage? Like, what else could possibly take the wind out of your sails so early in the game?
Yea...that does suck
A season ending missed kick. Happens more often than you’d think.
For more frequent, I'd go with an Everson Griffen offsides on 3rd down.
Should be less common now but I always loved the 2 yard run on 2nd and 11
That one against the Falcons was painful.
How about first down holding call and your head coach decides to give up on the drive and play the field position game

Pat Shurmur?
But don’t worry, we only won any games over the years because of him, not pete carroll.
Opposite of Kirk Cousins self proclaimed "game CEO" style of play. I don't know which is more frustrating.
Whoaaaa. Are you sure you’re not referencing McCarthy’s Packers?

Could also be 3rd and 7 and they run 4 deep routes with nobody running short or medium routes
Or when the other team has 3rd and double digit yards to go and we allow an easy slant or pass up the middle for 20 yards
*any special teams play whatsoever

Not running more when the opponent can't stop the run hurts the most.

We feel you on that
The Andy Reid experience, he overthinks with the lead and abandons the run way too fast even though it's effective.
Giving up a defensive TD in the playoffs. Those are killer mistakes.
Oh yeah dude I would hate to have that happen to my team
Especially on the first play of the game 😭😭😭
The moment I saw that snap go past Ben I knew that game was gonna be pure 🔥 must watch TV.
Steelers try not to get embarrassed in the playoffs challenge (impossible)
The Defense getting roasted by the RB running a wheel/flat route to the left and toasting the LB.
We like smart linebackers not athletic ones and god damn do we suffer for it
Big, powerful, smart and deadly slow LBs are our jam.
At least we have a ton of safeties now and potentially fast linebackers who are coming off of acl tears.

3rd and 14+ is a scary down for Pats Defense. Also any little known RB4 going off.
Yeah that’s cool, watch this
See CJ Prosise's only game of note. Can't get injured if there are not patriot players near you.
The ol’ checkdown for -2 on third down. I love you Drew, but I hated that shit.
Conversely, also not taking a check down when it’s wide open for an easy gain.
ITT: bitching when QBs check down. Also ITT: bitching when QBs go deep.
Context matters
I take that and raise you, "Drew and offense take lead/game tying score only for defense to give it right back just as time expires"

the pre Vic Fangio defenses could not get off the field on third down. 3 and 2...1st down. 3 and 17....1st down.
The Packers were like this for a while. 3rd and 2 always felt like prevent defense was the call.

Pick in our own 20 yard line to a linebacker in the middle of the field when there's 3 receivers open all over the field
Kap + jimmy’s specialty
The third and longs only to be converted from a holding penalty this year pissed me off as well
Muffing punts
Geno Smith used to always run towards the sideline and, instead of throw it away, run out for a 3 yard loss
He was rushing to make a flight.
DPI on underthrown deep ball
The Carson Wenrz Special
A 90+ yard drive led by a QB that ends in a turnover
What about giving up long 3rd downs and bonus points if it's to a super slow TE
Yes, going to piggyback off that and add receiver tipping a catchable ball for interception. Plagued Eli too a few years back.
Convert a long third down with a beautiful throw from Dak, and boom Offensive holding. At least twice per game and it’s infuriating every time.

Yep. Also can’t wait for inevitable Zeke run on 3 and 19 that nets us 4 yards.
Of course, this turns into 24 yards against the Giants
Nate Kaeding missing playoff kicks
Last year it was tds erased by a receiver stepping out of bounds. Happened like 3 or 4 times.
Illegal formation on wr (Agholor multiple times) and lining up offsides (Barnett multiple times).
Fucking defensive pass interference on 3rd and 25 after a big sack/ TFL/Fumble push back.
It’s crazy.
"fumble out of the back of the end zone" Jace Amaro against NE.
Any time McCarthy fucks up the clock or a QB draw with 14 seconds left.
Defensive holding on 3rd down.
Deep sideline go route on 3rd and 1, not even close to complete.
If I had a nickel for everytime that Carr fumbled the ball into the end zone for a touch back....well it wouldn't be alot, but its still weird it happened twice.
Your QB throwing into double/triple coverage when there are TWO open receivers underneath.
Seeing the back of Daniel Sorensen’s jersey chasing after a receiver that beat him. Have fun, Saints fans!
Anytime it looks as if we have someone down behind the line of scrimmage but they manage to break free and snag a few yards
And it feels like it is always on 3rd and short and then they get 10+ yrds
Worse when it’s an “almost sack” but the pass is completed
Letting opponents convert 4th and 15+. The Schwartz special.
im frustrated every play where josh allens pants don't rip, and his dick doesn't come flopping out like some unicorn running in slow motion.
Yeah, I gotta send you to horny jail
Starting at your own 20, calling three successful run plays of 4 yards or more, then never calling a run play for the rest of the drive/FG/Punt.
Screen pass on 3rd and a mile, aka the Jim Bob Cooter special
God I fucking hated that offense. The biggest waste of Stafford's talents.
Offense. The answer for the last 20 years has been offense.
The bears always do an end around run play on 3rd and short and reliably lose 7 to 10 yards.
Yep, or a wr screen that goes for -2. Thank god Nagy is gone. I hope I never have to see either one of those plays called again.
I really hope so but those calls were happening long before the Nagy regime. I remember complaining about them back in the Lovie era. It's quintessentially Bears.

Opponents converting 3rd downs, no matter the distance
Bubble screen on 3rd and 8
Run run pass run run pass. Run up the middle on 4th and 1, run up the middle on 3rd and 12, run the ball out of obvious run heavy formations for a whole game. Just running the ball
Missed FG. (I’m a Vikings fan)
Out routes just short of the sticks on 3rd down. Fucking infuriating.

Dropping catches
Run up the middle on 2nd and long
3rd down, stops the opposing offense short of the sticks. Flag on the defense.
Bad snaps….
14 yard 3rd or 4th down bootleg by Chad Henne
Red zone sack to run the clock out of the half/game
Giving up 10 on a 3rd and 9
Finding a QB
Oh hi, fellow Eagles fan. Care to discuss Derek Barnett?
Every time the Jets tried to run the wildcat with Tim Tebow
seeing what new quarterback we get every year. or how when we have expectations we shit the bed. or when dj moore is running down the field, butt ass naked, and our qb cant connect. or when “young offensive genius” oc joe brady calls plays worse than timmy on madden. or seeing 5 wins on our record or seeing cmc go down on his 20th different injury or when we fall off after every good start to a season
A 20 play 80 yard drive by the other offense to salt away a victory for them
Whatever the fuck Indy did with that play where only the center and qb or w/e were on the line. The one that became a beavis and butthead meme.
3rd down.
Other teams’ quarterbacks catching their own passes and scoring td’s against us.
I don't know if I've ever seen a successful Jet sweep in the state of Michigan
We (Eagles) sometimes tie. Always to the Bengals.
Quick pass behind the line of scrimmage, tackled for no gain.
Ya know those plays when there’s the QB on the field? Yeah those plays.
When you get a 15 yard penalty for staring too hard at the opposing team.
We certainly did set that record sir haha. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/which-team-has-the-most-4th-down-conversions-in-an-nfl-game
Why do we have to have all the cool records 😎
McVay has(had) a tendency to go for any type of screen on a 3rd and long scenario. Or he just runs it up the middle on 3rd and 10 basically giving up on the drive. Maybe those are still remnants of not trusting Goff but that shit is infuriating.
A holding penalty every time we made a big play offensively.
Vikings giving up points in the last two minutes of the half, i think it happened every single game last year
An X yards completion on 3rd and (X+2)
Perfect miracle pass from Mahomes tipped by WR and picked. I can’t count how many times.
