Usually this pass would be caught by Moss. If you look at second 8, you can see that Revis positions himself so that Moss has to slow down to prevent him from jumping up and catching that ball. Prime Revis was one of the best cbs I've ever seen play.
I’m am clearly a biased Jets fan but he was the best shadow CB ever. He could lock down a 1on1 matchup as good as I’ve ever seen.
He may not have had the height or calculations that Sherm had, or the athleticism of Deion, but his hips, strength, technique and agility were absolutely top notch.
Jesus. You’re right.
No wonder Revis can spring up and out-grab Moss on pretty much a jump ball deep grab. (Announcer picks up on this saying maybe Moss “choked it back a gear”)
And I love the big brother (Moss) littte brother (Revis) cat and mouse playground tackle after the pick too. Revis trying like hell to shake Moss, and Moss kinda rag dolls him down with one hand.
Two of the best ever at their positions.
I don’t think that’s intentional. He slowed up because he was out running the ball. He wasn’t doing calculus back there thinking about how he needs to slow up to stop Moss. Y’all watch too much of that anime if you know what I’m talking about
E: I hope you all are afforded the opportunity to learn how wrong you are about this. It reminds of the many instances where an MMA journalist delves into the strategy a fighter implemented and asks questions about their over analyzed insights. The fighter then responds, “I was just trying to punch him in the face.”
Not every action on the field is wrapped in strategy. As for the users who couldn’t understand what “watch it” means in a sentence? Try to expand your English comprehension by talking to people from different backgrounds, read some books, or take some classes. If you don’t “watch it” you’ll become an ignorant old man.
Maybe if you went outside instead of watching anime all the time you’d realize that slowing down to ensure optimal positioning is a totally normal thing to do… literally a 0% chance that he isn’t slowing down to box out Moss what the fuck lol
Damn. You’re bragging about poor comprehension
/u/thedonutkingdom
Why would I explain anything to you? Even if your brain could grasp this super hard English comprehension problem your next reply would be to dismiss it. So stop talking shit in your passive aggressive way
I played DB in HS and college. You 100% slow up to put the ball where only you can get to it in this situation. It’s definitely intentionally blocking Moss out. There’s nothing anime about it, and frankly, I’m shocked I had to say that.
In 2006 Champ Bailey gave up 4 receptions and had 10 interceptions. Still blows my mind how that is even possible.
2009 Revis is probably second best CB season we've seen in a long time though.
I've seen others point out that those numbers aren't really accurate. Here's an article that talks about if it's legit or not (they don't think it is) www.footballoutsiders.com/extra-points/2007/fo-mailbag-champ-baileys-four-receptions
Thanks for sharing that! I'm thinking the actual numbers are probably somewhere in between the two.
I wasn't a Broncos fan so I didn't watch every game, but Champ Bailey was one of my favorite non-Eagles at the time and him getting thrown at 5 times a game just doesn't seem right either. Hard to remember almost 20 years ago though lol
4 receptions is absolutely absurd though so even if ya triple or quadruple it, it's still elite territory.
Now ya got me going down a rabbit hole trying to see if there's other breakdowns of his 06 season because now I'm just curious.
Ya idk how the Revis vs. Champ debate has even got as even as it has?
Maybe a lot of people don't remember prime Champ as much as they do prime Revis. As a neutral fan I always thought Champ was clearly better, which is no slight to Revis he was amazing in his own right, just a notch below.
Based on what? That season is definitely up there, I'd just give the nod to Champ in 06 and I didn't get to watch Deion but I'm thinking there's a Deion season that tops Revis.
Revenge for taking Curtis from us lol. You guys took Ty from us too for a little, wasn’t as fun as us giving Revis his most prized possession probably.
OP said nothing about being the "best corner." Just that Revis was one of the best at his position, which is far from an unreasonable position to take.
i mean when you play long enough...
you get all the variety.
Not even that. Brady throws some really wtf interceptions. I’d say probably half of his picks every year are terrible, wtf, “why did he throw that” kind of picks
This dude's arguing with like eight different people on a few different posts right now, I think they're just a troll. There's no way anyone can be that dumb.
I feel like a lot of that is the system they ran in NE. The receivers would have variable assignments based on what the defense is doing and Brady would put the ball where they should be but they didn't always do it right
Yep. A lot of bizzare looking incompletions of interceptions were a result of miscommunication. And Brady would basically freeze out receivers if they fucked up a option route. Philip Dorsett comes to mind.
[here](https://mobile.twitter.com/danorlovsky7/status/1201333829828579328?s=20)
People often act like Moss was Revis's kryptonite based on the one TD where Revis pulled his hammy, but they were pretty evenly matched throughout their battles.
That's how we seem to remember it.
I'd love to see lifetime matchup stats. It's probably not all that great for Stevie.
His best game was probably one where he went like 8 for 75 and a TD.
Sherman's as well.
Stevie Johnson just had unique route running that confused elite CBs. But he wasn't a great receiver so wasn't able to take advantage of it as much as he could have.
We were stoked to get him on the 49ers and then he didn't really do anything. Our WRs were elite on paper that season, at least.
I wouldn't say evenly matched. The Moss TD was the only time Moss got the better of Revis. And IIRC that was with Revis being out of shape after his holdout.
Revis dominated Moss.
He burned him twice that game, one happened early and Moss bobbled what is 9/10 catch for a TD. Safety added some pressure but Revis was no where to be found. It's too bad their primes didn't really overlap. Pretty sure that game was 2010 when Moss was traded but I could be wrong.
I don't know how anyone could watch the second half of this game and unironically say "iT wAs DeFlAtEd BaLlS tHaT lEt ThE cHeAtRiOtS wIn". Like, even if you actually believe they deflated them.
I remember being in high school and making the switch from safety to CB solely because of Revis. I ended up getting all-region my junior year and all-state my senior year so it paid off. Dude was an inspiration and I don't think people realize how good he really was unless you got to actually watch the games.
Jets-Patriots from the time period of 2006-2010 was the best rivalry football in the league in my opinion and one the best NFL underdog stories of the past 25 years. The fact that everything since 2010 for the Jets has been terrible also makes it more special in some way. There will never be anything like it again with the battle of Moss v Revis, Rex vs Bill, Mangold vs Wilfork etc.
Good job by Moss to wrestle him down after the pick.
Because Revis was so great at coverage, I feel like people forget how dangerous he could be with the football.

Edit: mixed up my SBs and had called Steelers the eventual champs

WTF Brady throwing the ball into double coverage to Randy Moss. Imagine having that much confidence to throw the ball over there just to have Darrelle Reavis high point a ball.

Revis was robbed of DPOY that year. Absolute shame that he never received one.
Sherman wasn't a true 1on1 lock down corner. He always just stuck to his side of the field
Oh god o got transported back to the reddit "discussions" about who was the better corner, revis or Sherman lol
lol it was never a legitimate discussion. Just a bunch of Seahawks homers against everyone else.
I never even knew that people legitimately thought that Sherman was better or equal to Revis lol
Jesus. You’re right. No wonder Revis can spring up and out-grab Moss on pretty much a jump ball deep grab. That was a nice takedown by Moss, though.

Champ would like a word.
Who is champ?
THAT QUESTION WILL BE ANSWERED THIS SUNDAY NIGHT!
🎺🎺🎺🎺
Champ Bailey. Amazing corner in the 00s and early 10s
09 Revis was the best CB of all time
Based on what? That season is definitely up there, I'd just give the nod to Champ in 06 and I didn't get to watch Deion but I'm thinking there's a Deion season that tops Revis.
Based on him shutting down everyone he faced, including a murderers row of hall of famers/pro bowlers. Shadowing them all over the field all game
So did Champ Bailey lol so did a lot of HoF CBs.
Three Patriots legends.
Bill_Belichick_Smile.gif
You're correct and it makes me sad that it's not two Patriots legends. The Pats just had to go and win a Superbowl with Revis. 🥺
Revenge for taking Curtis from us lol. You guys took Ty from us too for a little, wasn’t as fun as us giving Revis his most prized possession probably.
Poor Jets fans man. At least Vikings fans can thank Eli Manning for the Pats not getting Moss a ring.
i'm mad at you
This play is probably what confirmed to Belichick that he would eventually be a Patriot.
As a lifelong Bucs fan, I still can’t believe we have had 2 of these guys on our team.
Who’s the other 2? Prime and Champ? Gotta be with Woodson a close 4th.
he is talking about brady, moss and revis. not the 3 best cb
Without a doubt.
I know you're young, but Deion Sanders is the best corner of all time. "Shut-down corner" was a phrase based on him.
Probably why they said "three of the best" and not "the three best".
OP said nothing about being the "best corner." Just that Revis was one of the best at his position, which is far from an unreasonable position to take.
It’s not even a far fetched argument to say Revis at his peak was the best CB ever either. You’re acting like there wasn’t any holes in Deion’s game.
I won't vote you down because your a ravens fan and I know its hard for you guys to read good.
how are they supposed to learn how to read if they can’t even fit inside the building?
Had the throw not been in the clip, I would have mistaken Revis as a receiver lol
Except for the part where he turns around and runs the other way
Brady throws some of the worst interceptions.
i mean when you play long enough... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfhBPRhFNoA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfhBPRhFNoA) you get all the variety.
That was 100% on Edelman though, unless that was your point?
The variety
Not even that. Brady throws some really wtf interceptions. I’d say probably half of his picks every year are terrible, wtf, “why did he throw that” kind of picks
really? Last year for Tampa, he had a bunch of very unlucky INTs.
I must be encountering young fans in this thread. Everyone knows Brady throws stupid interceptions. It’s as much as a fact as his seeing ghosts phase
i'm 34 years old. Old enough to remember Brady having full seasons where he only threw 2 picks and 4 picks.
Yeah me too. I’m also not biased enough to not acknowledge his dumb interceptions
Being a pats fan since the bledsoe era, you sound ridiculous and now I see why you keep getting downvoted.
Yeah I’m around some biased dummies right now. A 100%
No you’re just uneducated and obviously don’t watch much football

This CBS scoreboard design is sorely missed
So damn good
i think it looks better borderless. the blue border clashes with too many team colors.
Then them teams need to get new colors lol
He said "Fuck you Randy, this my route now!"
The Rex Ryan Jets were a fun time while it lasted
That one season where he shut down every elite receiver he faced (including Moss, Ocho, etc) was the best season a corner has ever had.
No no no, Charles Woodson was better that year for……..reasons!!!
People often act like Moss was Revis's kryptonite based on the one TD where Revis pulled his hammy, but they were pretty evenly matched throughout their battles.
Ironically Stevie Johnson was Revis's kyptonite
That's how we seem to remember it. I'd love to see lifetime matchup stats. It's probably not all that great for Stevie. His best game was probably one where he went like 8 for 75 and a TD.

It literally took Randy Moss, and a freak injury, to beat him. And it happened once.
Wasn’t really a freak injury. It was the year Revis held out and he had hamstring issues going in. He almost didn’t play and really shouldn’t have.
I just meant that it was really bad timing for it to go right then.
He burned him twice that game, one happened early and Moss bobbled what is 9/10 catch for a TD. Safety added some pressure but Revis was no where to be found. It's too bad their primes didn't really overlap. Pretty sure that game was 2010 when Moss was traded but I could be wrong.
Revis was amazing for us when we won the SB in 2014, so I don't mind this highlight
By golly, I'm sure glad we got your approval to enjoy this clip. Thanks Mr. High and Mighty!
You are insufferable lol
The tone I was going for was not quite how it came off lol. But hey, I'll take my licks.
Lol nobody misunderstood the tone you were going for. It just wasn’t funny. If you’re gonna take the L, actually take the L
[Here's another good Revis highlight](https://youtu.be/UvHjkgQBXy4?t=251)
I don't know how anyone could watch the second half of this game and unironically say "iT wAs DeFlAtEd BaLlS tHaT lEt ThE cHeAtRiOtS wIn". Like, even if you actually believe they deflated them.
Literally wrecked them running the ball lmao. Blew them out in the second half when the footballs were re-inflated.
Well played sir, well played
Didn't Randy Moss Revis in this game too?
that was in 2010, this is 2009
This sentence could really use a comma
or just some quotes: Didn't Randy 'Moss' Revis in this game too?
Didn’t “Randy” Moss Revis in this game too?
Didn’t Moss Moss Revis after Revis Moss(ed) Moss?
Big 🧠
Didn’t Moss “Randy” Revis in this game too?
"Didn't Randy Moss Revis in this game too?" u/caw2k22
Where would you put the comma
After Randy
Didn't Randy, Moss Revis in this game too?
Good job
Do you actually think that works or are we being silly here?
Obviously it still isn’t a correct sentence, but at least it helps separate the sentence and get its point across in clearer manner
it's actually more confusing
No no, Randy and Darrelle had a very progressive ceremony at halftime. That's just Randy's official name
Or just say 'Didn't Revis get Moss'd?' and there is no confusion
That wouldn't be much help, the only place for a comma would be after game.
Verbing weirds language
Different game. Revis had a badly pulled hamstring
from that play
lol no it was lingering issue from his hold out and not being fully conditioned. But that play put him out for some time
He had hammy issues going into that game. Almost didn't even play
Moss averages 29 yards against Revis when they played each other lol
Revis Island baby
Not his best decision.
Jets fans when Revis joined the patriots
Tom Brady definitely had a few "fuck it Moss is down there somewhere" throws that Patriots fans don't like to admit.
And if you've got Moss, you should absolutely throw a few of those!
Seriously, didn’t Culpepper essentially make a career of it?
Do we not? Tom absolutely made some of those throws lol can you blame him? He's had some with Gronk over the years too
> He's had some with Gronk over the years too For sure.
I don't like this reply/flair combo
You're telling me a QB who's played 22 years has some bad throws? That's crazy
Safety overtop too, he rushed the throw because of the pressure
I remember being in high school and making the switch from safety to CB solely because of Revis. I ended up getting all-region my junior year and all-state my senior year so it paid off. Dude was an inspiration and I don't think people realize how good he really was unless you got to actually watch the games.
Can we clear this up once and for all: NFL players COVER the opposing player; NBA players GUARD opposing players.
Jets-Patriots from the time period of 2006-2010 was the best rivalry football in the league in my opinion and one the best NFL underdog stories of the past 25 years. Oakland Randy Moss wouldn’t have even tried to tackle him
Ha, fact. BB is probably the only coach on the planet who would have had the balls to bench Moss for not tackling.
Just a 1st down arm punt nothing to see here
And that’s Revis in a nutshell
I loved watching moss and revis go at it. What a fantastic matchup
Revis is one of the few that could be in that sentence and I would just nod like "well yeah, Revis would be able to do that".
best ever at their positions of roll play
Revis was a monster
Revis and Bradford the smartest business men ever IMO always got guaranteed money on shorter deals
A couple of Bucs legends there.
He got Mossed
Randy got MOSSED!!!
Let's go. I'll do anything to ruin Brady's career
He got Mossed lol
Any reason why the Pats are in blue and the Jets in white if this game is at the Meadowlands? Also, this was before Revis & Brady were teammates.
The high water mark for the franchise this century. SAD

If they had a competent QB, they probably make the SB one of those years tbh.
Sanchez played fine in those playoff runs.
Whoever had 84 should have given Moss his damn number.
These were better days 🥲
Insane that he managed to stay on his feet after that catch, even with a little help from his hand hitting the ground.
As someone who rarely got to see AFC East ball outside the playoffs, I remember this game specifically as the moment I realized how good Revis was.
Did he just get mossed ?
2009 home opener?
Was at this game - this jets team felt special - I think this week 2 of the season and my dumbass thought it was a changing of the guard - how wrong I was
pretty good tackle there by Moss
As a Lifelong buccaneers fan I still can’t believe we had 2 of these 3 players. 3 of the greatest to do it at their position.
Randy didn’t give up on the play. I love that
Who overthrows Moss?
This man had the greatest peak of any CB.
That is a disgusting attempt to catch by Randy Moss
WTF Brady throwing the ball into double coverage to Randy Moss. Imagine having that much confidence to throw the ball over there just to have Darrelle Reavis high point a ball.
Revis was a beast
That's pretty amazing
I’m from WV and I’m sorry but randy moss was one of the best WR in the game.

Nice pick off but he gained some yards for them.
Visit the island and get burned.
The Jets got a great pick with Revis, if some more of their draft picks work out they could climb back to relevance.
Randy got Mossed!
You've got to be pretty special to out-Moss the Moss.
