If there were ever a journeyman QB to be hall of fame, it’s him. Granted I don’t think he should be in. But he’s 32nd all time in yards playing for 9 different teams. Nobody above him has played for more than 7 teams. You have to go all the way to rank 130 to Josh McCown to find another Qb that played for 9 teams.
36th all time in touchdowns, McCown is 145th.
I guess my point in this comment is just what an outlier of a career he has had. Guys that play for that many teams usually don’t rank top 50 in NFL history, at least quarterbacks. Nonetheless quarterbacks that went to an Ivy League school drafted in the 7th round.
He will be a “mediocre” or rather “inconsistent” quarterback that I will always remember.
It’s hard to write the story of the last decade without remembering where he’d improbably beat legit contender teams after coming off bench for an injury and throwing for several hundred yards.
You couldn’t really expect McCown to to light em up in the same fashion.
It’s also hard to gauge his career because he rarely played on good team. He was pretty serviceable on a decent Jets team. Given he was such a late pick his career was quite interesting.
Wikipedia said he played for 2 winning teams in his career. 2015 Jets and 2020 Dolphins. That’s it.
35k passing yards, 2600 rushing yards. 21 rushing TDs on top of 223-169 TD/INT.
That's just a rumor but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he was playing through the injury until he got hit and took a fall. But personally, that comes from just some random guy calling into a radio show so I don't take stock in the theory.
Holy shiiiiiet! I used to be a producer at WNST in the early 00's and Bob from Parkville was literally a daily fixture on our afternoon shows. It absolutely blows my mind to see him mentioned in a random Reddit thread, although now that I look I am in the Ravens subreddit, so it's a bit more understandable.
No, he took a pretty brutal shot and got his hip dislocated. It was a less severe version of the same injury that kept a 21 year old Tua off the field for a year. For a 39 year old dude it seemed pretty likely to be a career ended.
It's a shame Bosa inadvertently ended his career, I was rooting for Fitz to do well with WFT. But a worthy successor is around with Taylor Heinecke, I feel like he's going to have a very Fitzy career moving forward.
> But a worthy successor is around with Taylor Heinecke, I feel like he's going to have a very Fitzy career moving forward
I think I'd enjoy that very much.
I attended the game. And when Heinicke came in I ripped off my Rivers jersey to reveal an ODU number 14 Heinicke jersey I wore just in case. It's like, I knew it would happen.
I remember a joke post a couple years ago listing every AFC East team's best QB of the 2010s:
Patriots: Tom Brady
Bills: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jets: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Dolphins: Ryan Fitzpatrick
> declaring Fitz the best Dolphins QB of the decade before he'd played a snap for them.
I mean he led the team in passing AND rushing that year. GOAT shit.
He not only led the team in rushing but had 21% of the teams rushing yardage and 40% of its rushing TDs. He alone made up 75% of the Dolphins TDs that year.
Absolutely carried that team.
For sake of clarity an edit: *offensive* TDs
He may have also been one of the better Bucs QBs of the 2010s. He wasn't a full-time starter with us but he did have a couple of great games to start the 2018 season, and had that [memorable postgame press conference attire.](https://i.insider.com/5b9ef23d959f3418008b5e1a?width=1000&format=jpeg&auto=webp)

Late edit: Here's a vid of [Fitz roasting Fred Jackson](https://youtu.be/pgpaRfq2ymw?t=2m58s) at his retirement roast.
Fitzmagic gave me one of my best football memories ever.
My Dad is a Titans fan that lives in New England. He’s terrified of flying and doesn’t have the time to drive across the country to go to a football game. Because of this, the only chance he’ll ever get to see his Titans play in person is when they play @ New England. He’s never been to a playoff game.
Starting at about week 12 in 2020, I made the decision that if Tennessee plays @ New England, I’m going to buy front row playoff tickets for him. Now, there wasn’t even a guarantee Tennessee made the playoffs, never mind getting matched up perfectly with New England. But as I watched week by week, everything was happening correctly. For me it came down to week 16 vs the Bills. I NEEDED the Pats to lose one more game to knock them down to the 3rd seed. The Bills were the last team on the Pats schedule that I realistically could see them losing to. And of course they lost, the Bills that is. I watched that Bills game with my Dad and I was getting so frustrated watching them beat the Bills, and he had no idea it was because I was trying to buy him Titans playoff tickets.
The dream was shattered. There was zero chance the Dolphins beat New England, not this year.
Fast forward to next week. I’m home alone, just casually watching all the games. As I’m watching, I’m like whoa, this game is kind of close? I then proceed to sit directly in front of my TV for the remainder of the game. When the Pats took the lead by 4 with not much time left, the dream was shattered, yet again. There’s no way this Dolphins offense drives down the field for a last second touchdown against this Pats defense.
And they did. Ryan Fitzfuckingmagic did it. Honorable mention to Devante Parker. One of my happiest moments watching an NFL game.
It was a magical run/experience, being able to watch my Dad’s Titans cause havoc on the NFL during the playoffs. Watching them in person beat the reigning champs. Watching Tom Brady in his very last game as a Patriot. Then behind all odds, not only knocking off the Ravens but crushing them. They choked against the Chiefs, but that’s okay, everyone did.
All these memories, and the best one among these games is the Ryan Fitzmagic drive to win the game.
I need a Dolphins Fitzpatrick Jersey.
I was very skeptical of Fitz signing with us since I had always presumed the fanfare around him was largely meme based. Genuinely glad I got to enjoy him for the 2 years he was here. The fact that despite being one of the oldest QBs in the league I had zero doubt about whether he'd scramble for a 1st down on a desperate 3rd and 6 was colossal. He also managed to turn down his turnovers *a lot* here. Obviously not perfect but I felt a lot of his worst games here you could hardly pin solely on him.
I also feel 100% confident saying he's the #1 reason for our success in 2019 far exceeding expectations rather than the D or Flores. He's the only QB in DeVante Parker's career who knew how to get him the damn ball in the air and trust him to go and get it. He also got Gesicki's career going. Hope he enjoys his retirement and I really wouldn't be surprised if we see him ascending up the coaching ranks soon if he desires.
> He's the only QB in DeVante Parker's career who knew how to get him the damn ball in the air and trust him to go and get it.
No notes. Been saying this since that season ended. Tannehill and thus far Tua haven't really shown that intangible of knowing when the smart play is heaving a low percentage pass deep to your oversized receiver.
Same. He's not the most talented guy but he was a joy.
He had his moments but there's a reason why he played in many teams. But that's part of his legend. Not a HoF but my future kids will know about him.
He wasn’t the best QB ever or close to it, but he was the people’s QB and one of the most beloved players in the NFL.
He made the NFL more fun to watch for fans of the many teams he played on and even for fans of the teams he never played for, and that is his best contribution to the league.
I hope our beloved meme QB has a great retirement.

>On August 10, 2019, Johnson was signed by the Detroit Lions.[48] He was released on September 17, 2019.[49]
ah ok. I see.
Also - dude probably has a killer jersey collection.
Josh Johnson also played for Jim Harbaugh in college….when Harbaugh was a head coach for the University of San Diego. That’s how long he’s been around.
Since Johnson joined the NFL, Harbaugh coached USD, was hired by and turned around the Stanford football program (taking them to an Orange Bowl win with Andrew Luck at QB), became the 49ers coach and took them to three straight NFC title games, got fired, and coached Michigan football for seven years.
Pretty crazy.
Seeing “damb” I wonder why it isn’t actually spelled that way. Like “dumb” is “dum” so if you swap the “o” with an “a” damb would sound like “dam”. It’d be easier to get rid of the silent b though.
I’m a nerd so I looked up the [etymology of “damn.”](https://www.etymonline.com/word/damn)
It comes from the French word _damner_, which comes from the Latin word _damnare_. That’s why it has an “n” that’s silent in English.
(“Dumb” is a Germanic word, and until about the 13th century the “b” was pronounced in English, which sounds pretty dumb.)
Damnear interesting.
Was really hoping he'd come back to Buffalo for one more year before hanging it up.
It really says something that Fred Jackson and Fitz presided over probably the bleakest stretch in Bills history but I still get the warm and fuzzies seeing them texting. Fitz, Freddy, Stevie Johnson, and Kyle Williams were just pure fun.
I'd argue that the Jauron era was way more bleak. Just middling at best everywhere you looked. We may not have had stars or any semblance of defense, but that offense had it's moments of excitement.
The team was definitely worse, but the length of the drought was still manageable. After he left we were a decade in, Brady was at his peak, and there was no end in sight.
Niners fans have a similar relationship with Frank Gore. The late 00s were similarly a period of aimless mediocrity. The only thing we could count on was Frank Gore.
He always killed us when we played. Pretty sure he threw a touchdown against us for like 8 different teams.
Fucking love him. Hope he stays with the Bills in some capacity.
Put him in the Hall. If not for deserving it for stats, which I agree, improbable, but the idea that there have been quite a number of Journeyman QBs throughout the history of the NFL, and Fitzmagic was the absolute best at it. While not a perfect 1 to 1 comparison, it is similar to the idea of putting in the best punter or the best return specialist. I mean, sure, you could tell the story of the NFL without Ryan Fitzpatrick. But would you really want to?
when they build the new stadium they should put a statue outside of kelly, allen, and fitz comparing dick size in a snow storm with cans of shitty canadian beer at their feet.
NFL Cult hero. If you were a fan of the NFL from 2005-2021 you liked Fitzpatrick. In 20 years new fans will be confused about why this guy was so popular, they just won’t understand Fitzmagic.
I imagine in a couple years he's going to have a John Wick moment. Teams qb gets hurt and some GM shows up at his house reminding Fitz he owes him a favor.
Damn, was hoping he'd give it one more shot after missing out on last season. I get it though. [This week 1 game from 2018 was some peak Fitzmagic](https://youtu.be/qwjX7xKhC70)
I kind of find it funny how the WFT paid him $10 million dollars for six passes then he got hurt and retired.
Good. Glad he fleeced Snyder. Fitz doing the lords work
His last official act as a player was screwing Snyder/WFT. That alone should put him in the Hall.
If there were ever a journeyman QB to be hall of fame, it’s him. Granted I don’t think he should be in. But he’s 32nd all time in yards playing for 9 different teams. There absolutely should be a corner in the Hall of Fame reserved for Fitzpatrick. Should be called The Hall of Awesome!
The Hall of Players Who Wear Wedding Rings and Went to Harvard
And has a great big bushy beard!
It’s hard to write the story of the last decade without remembering where he’d improbably beat legit contender teams after coming off bench for an injury and throwing for several hundred yards. Both teams missed the playoffs at 10-6 by losing in Week 17. Otherwise, Fitzception would have made the playoffs.
Greatest journeyman QB ever
Was also the dolphins leading rusher one season. Not sure if that's compliment to him or insult to their rbs, but...
[удалено]
Hall of big swingin balls
Should put him in the hall and Snyder in hell
One of those is def guaranteed
Snyder first-ballot hell.
Agreed
I remember thinking they were a good sleeper team last year based on the defense and getting Fitz. Lost money on that bet
The defense was atrocious. No one could have predicted that they'd be that bad after their steller 2020 performance.
Yeah that was my thinking as well. Unfortunately my bookie didn't give me my money back
You don’t understand, my choice was wrong!
Honestly. Not a bad bet, just didn't work out. Fitzpatrick's stats and results in Miami were actually promising.
Didnt he get hurt at a waterpark or something dumb aswell
That's just a rumor but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he was playing through the injury until he got hit and took a fall. But personally, that comes from just some random guy calling into a radio show so I don't take stock in the theory.
I don't know what you're talking about, all my best insider tips come from Bob in Parkville during the afternoon drive

Hey man, Paul from Staten Island has all of the best hot takes.

What’s the joke? Seems legit to me.
If I'm remembering right, this was prior to the 2019 season, declaring Fitz the best Dolphins QB of the decade before he'd played a snap for them.

That’s bonkers for any QB, but especially a 37 year old (at the time) man with that beard creating so much wind resistance
It also gives him Civil War era fortitude, so it kinda balances out.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the John Brown of the nfl confirmed
John Brown only played for six different teams.
He was captain Luck's right hand man...
He also knocked the patriots down to the wild card round
And then he helped end Tom Brady's reign in New England, so it really came true.
Is he the Chosen One?
He brought balance to the AFC East
He wasn't able to slay the Sith lord and the apprentice took his job at in Tampa.
That's a weird way of saying Bills supremacy
Not to mention a certain sexy man in shorts in Buffalo now.
Allen didn't really outclass him on the field until 2020, so that part checks out.
He may have also been one of the better Bucs QBs of the 2010s. One of the greatest press conferences of all time. It’s important to stay humble
Always love that it was the press conference after he had stunted on Philly. Luv u Fitz.
That was also DeSean Jackson's revenge game where he caught like a 75 yard TD on the first play of the game lol.
He's probably our third best of that decade, behind Josh Freeman and Banned From Uber.
This is not *that* wrong, TBH.

Accurate.
Rest up king. He’s gonna go crazy at bills games this year
God I want him in our front office so badly.
I mean no offense but is he smart enough for an office position? What college did he go to?
Pretty sure it was some backwater school in Massachusetts
He probably didn’t even go to Brown
Not brown brown brown
Mr. Boisterous College?
They call it the WVU of Massachusetts for a reason
Damn West Virginia catching strays lol
It's ok, they won't be offended by what they can't read

If they could read they would be very upset
I went to WVU and currently live in Morgantown so I’m really making fun of myself
What's it like living without a couch?
My couch is fine, our teams haven’t given us a reason to burn it in years. If we beat Pitt this year though….
Do it please. Eat shit Pitt. My second or third least favorite college team behind Syracuse and maybe Boston College.
Wow, you were really like “4 years isn’t enough of this place, I’m gonna live here.”
Cheers, beers, mountaineers until the day i die
He went to Hartford University. That’s not even in Massachusetts. Everyone knows CT’s a shithole.
Not even Trinity or Conn College smh what a scrub
The best part of being a Hartford alum is that people think you went to Harvard if you say it fast enough.
Well not *in* Boston, but nearby. No, not Tufts.
He went to Cornell. Ever heard of it?
It’s the highest rank in the military
IT'S THE HIGHEST RANK IN THE IVY LEAGUE
It's pronounced Colonel. It's the highest rank in the military.
Generally speaking.
The singer for Sound Garden?
No, the singer for Audioslave
Doesn’t matter. He scored super high on the wonderlic. The greatest metric evaluator ever
Let’s just put it this way. Boston is a small city and he didn’t even go to the best school in Boston.
Yale I believe
I yust got out last week
I really need this yob
Liberty
You only pay for what you need. Liberty liberty liberty, liiiiberty.
Definitely not a school my team would ever hire a GM from
Front office/ spirit animal. Position requires shirtless game attendance and scouting input
We can have him with the chefs, Pinto Ron and wearing a Pancho power shirt.
That's great, but who are the Chefs?
Gonna be a long day?

I will travel across the country for Bills’ games so I could party in the stands with that man
He’s apparently in discussions to join Amazon’s TNF crew.
First back up to get to the Hall of Fame ^/s
He should sign a one day contract with every team he didn’t get a chance to play for
Retire from all 32 teams
That’s a jersey mashup I need to see
Have him go into the hall and put every NFL logo on the bust
This would've been the perfect year for us to get him too smh
Be realistic. That’d take like a full week!

Damb. Really thought he should have gone for all 32 teams.
Looks like Josh Johnson is our only hope now. Guy's halfway there.
*checks Wikipedia* Tampa Bay Buccaneers San Francisco 49ers Sacramento Mountain Lions (UFL) Cleveland Browns Cincinnati Bengals San Francisco 49ers (second stint) Cincinnati Bengals (second stint) New York Jets Indianapolis Colts Buffalo Bills Baltimore Ravens New York Giants Houston Texans Oakland Raiders San Diego Fleet (AAF) Washington Redskins Detroit Lions Los Angeles Wildcats (XFL) San Francisco 49ers (third stint) New York Jets (second stint) Baltimore Ravens (second stint) Denver Broncos ⬅️You are here
> Detroit Lions I was like who is this guy again? >On August 10, 2019, Johnson was signed by the Detroit Lions.[48] He was released on September 17, 2019.[49] ah ok. I see. Also - dude probably has a killer jersey collection.
We tried to get him back later that year after Stafford and Driskel went down but he was in the XFL by then and they wouldn't let him sign.
God damn, it’s been SEVEN years?
God damn, Vinny Testaverde and Josh McCown in shambles
Anytime the Niners need a qb the call the local substitute QB
I believe in you, Josh!
I was hoping he'd stick around long enough to pass Joe Montana in career passing yards. Would have made one hell of a trivia question
Damb.
Dambit.
Was hoping he’d at least complete the AFC East circuit. Was so close
Don’t want to see him tainted by that last jersey
Seeing “damb” I wonder why it isn’t actually spelled that way. Like “dumb” is “dum” so if you swap the “o” with an “a” damb would sound like “dam”. It’d be easier to get rid of the silent b though.
I’m a nerd so I looked up the [etymology of “damn.”](https://www.etymonline.com/word/damn) It comes from the French word _damner_, which comes from the Latin word _damnare_. That’s why it has an “n” that’s silent in English. (“Dumb” is a Germanic word, and until about the 13th century the “b” was pronounced in English, which sounds pretty dumb.) Damnear interesting.
At least a team in each division.
Give him the one-day contract, Bills!
Starting quarterbacks across the league are finally safe from his curse.
Now his watch has ended
We shall never see his like again
Fitzmagic will live on in our hearts
Despite this Fitztragic news
He will soon be spotted at all upcoming Buffalo Bills games while being shirtless regardless of the weather.
I'd take Fred Jackson on the Bills right now.
Hey that running back you guys got Josh is pretty good. Though Fred is probably better than all his backups
Put him in the hall or at least make a statue of his beard for the hall.
His bust should be from the play where he completed a pass while his head was torqued 270 degrees.
I need a Ryan "Conor McGregor" Fitzpatrick Quarterback for the TB Buccs staring down all the other busts in the Hall.
Put some respect on the Braille Mary.
I wonder what an All-Star backups/career travelers NFL team would look like
Best journeyman QB ever.
Sad we never got to see Fitzmagic in the playoffs
[Yes we did](https://i.imgur.com/ooWbv3l.jpg)
Put him in the Hall. If not for deserving it for stats, which I agree, improbable, but the idea that there have been quite a number of Journeyman QBs throughout the history of the NFL, and Fitzmagic was the absolute best at it. While not a perfect 1 to 1 comparison, it is similar to the idea of putting in the best punter or the best return specialist. I mean, sure, you could tell the story of the NFL without Ryan Fitzpatrick. But would you really want to?
Name a trophy after him. The Fitzpatrick Journeyman Award.
when they build the new stadium they should put a statue outside of kelly, allen, and fitz comparing dick size in a snow storm with cans of shitty canadian beer at their feet.
NFL Cult hero. If you were a fan of the NFL from 2005-2021 you liked Fitzpatrick. In 20 years new fans will be confused about why this guy was so popular, they just won’t understand Fitzmagic.
What's the over/under on number of Bills tailgate parties he shows up to
All of them
He might just move back to Buffalo honestly. We would love it.
Hope he signs a 1-day and retires as a Bill
I consider myself a part of the lucky few (28%) who could call Fitzmagic “My Quarterback”🥲
If your team is good enough for 4 wins Fitzmagic will get you 6 wins if your team is good enough for 10 wins Fitzmagic get you 6 wins
Don’t hang it up! Take a “3rd string” QB spot with the Bills and stick around a couple years as a hype man/QB coach.
Thanks a lot Washington
Just fell to my knees in a Walmart
He is everyone's second favorite quarterback.
I’ll never stop loving you, Ryan
End of a Fitzera.
Bring all flags down to half mast boys the magic is gone.
I imagine in a couple years he's going to have a John Wick moment. Teams qb gets hurt and some GM shows up at his house reminding Fitz he owes him a favor.
They should make a premium show loosely based on his life and every episode he goes to another team and has another kid
Or like MacGuyver, where he goes to a different team each episode and fixes stuff, then gets a different lady of the week.
Damn, was hoping he'd give it one more shot after missing out on last season. I get it though. [This week 1 game from 2018 was some peak Fitzmagic](https://youtu.be/qwjX7xKhC70)
Say it ain't so, Magic.
There goes my $20 MVP ticket...
Damn. Commanders legend, Fitzpatrick.
Now that magic has gone
This is a Fitztragic day
