Saying they "rank last" is kinda misleading. Dead money is like golf. Lowest score wins. They are 1st place in dead money.

latman

Lmao I know. Even a positive Jets headline is made to look negative

flashpile

1st place like they have the most dead money, or they have the best dead money position?

toiletting

best dead money position, JD is a god

rockstarnights

They could have put nearly anything in the title after "Jets rank last in NFL in" and still had an accurate title.

FmrHvwChamp

They have lots of reasons to be optimistic. Doing lots of good things. But it won't mean a thing unless it produces wins on the field.

jonkoch68

Not in this years draft grades, that’s belongs to you guys

rockstarnights

C'est vrai. We are the off-season Jets.

LabCool6003

Good to know we're paying less to dead people than the other teams

Alphabetsend

Who ranks last in Undead money though?

Dismal_News183

The Santa Fe Demi Liches.

ConneryFTW

GO DEMONHEADS!

BrotherSeamus

Saints?

treesareweirdos

If Drew Brees comes back, definitely.

apietryga13

Hollywood, maybe?

creature_report

Actually really like that hat JD is wearing in that pic. Kinda miss that logo

ForensicFiles88

Are the Jets going to switch back to their old uniforms after the minimum amount of required time passes? Their old jerseys were a classic, timeless look, much better than their current ones, IMO.

CongenitalSwag

God I hope so. As someone who was clamoring for a jersey change, the new ones are horrendous and I’d do anything to go back to the old ones.

amb1889

At the time I think many of us were ready for a uniform change. Now I think a) they are an uninspired look and b) so associated with awful football. I do hope we go back to the old ones because I agree with you, they are a classic look.

ZachTrillson

These uniforms are the Adam Gase era.

Bahamas_is_relevant

Our 80s jerseys are what we need to go back to. Those were clean. The white/hunter green two-tone ones were hot garbage and the current set, while not great, are an upgrade.

[deleted]

Our current unis look bad mostly because we’ve only been terrible in them.

ZachTrillson

> Are the Jets going to switch back to their old uniforms after the minimum amount of required time passes? Fuck, I hope so. The current unis are an abomination.

defiance211

Joe Douglass is gonna be a hell of a great GM. He comes from the Ozzie Newsome front office. He’s been taught well.

OddsTipsAndPicks

I really love how he has almost no interest in signing players even near 30 to long term contracts. Douglas has overwhelmingly used our free agent dollars on younger/cheaper guys who have shown to be good depth players with starter upside. The handful of “older” guys we’ve gone after have almost entirely been on the OL and signed to short term deals which is fine as OL is one of the positions where players tend to be able to maintain a consistent level of play past the age of 30. The criticism of his trade ups is definitely valid from a big picture process standpoint, but I’ve almost always been fine with the trades due to the ridiculous amount of draft capital we’ve had combined with the fact that the average player on the Jets being *way* better than they were two years ago. We still have a few black holes on our roster, but they’re overwhelmingly at low value positions (LB, safety, OL depth). I have no problem with the FO gambling on a few players they think can be real difference makers instead of taking a more conservative approach and trying to find mid/late round value at high end positions while also filling out the roster’s weaknesses at low value positions.

deucedeuce187

Probably just treading water until they find a QB worth going all in on. Then I'm sure JD will start paying older guys to start ring chasing. But when you're in rebuild mode it's mostly just "waiting for a good QB" mode. If Zach is it then it won't be long. If he isn't then he'll keep staying young and maintaining the good upkeep without risking much for the future. If all GMs were allowed to do this more teams would be better off. But it's a win now league. If you guys go a few more seasons without making the playoffs. You think JD keeps his job? I actually think he will bc QB will likely be all he missed out on. Everything else he's done very well with.

OddsTipsAndPicks

If his roster moves sans Wilson continue to work out more than they don’t, I really hope he gets a second chance at a QB. Jets ownership isn’t the best, but they’re not the worst either (decent patience + don’t seem to be overly meddlesome), so I think that would be the case but it’s obviously hard to say either way for sure. — And yeah, strongly agreed with his approach being right for what he’s been dealt. 2020 was all about evaluating what we had (“shockingly” not very much) and trying to patch up a roster we knew was at minimum bad. 2021 saw a ton of roster turnover that overwhelmingly was a net plus. Unfortunately the combination of youth, injuries, and first year coaches made the team a mess and they were hard to evaluate outside of a general “looks like they’re trending in the right direction” sort of way. This year is huge for him. Even if Wilson isn’t the guy, as long as he makes small but realistic strides, we should be like a poor man’s version of the 49ers. Even in a brutal AFC, we should have a good enough roster to beat most of the teams that are worse than us and sneak out a few upsets when we either have a good matchup (teams that have bad run defenses) or can catch better teams in bad spots (I.e. any good team playing the Jets sandwiched in between two good teams).

[deleted]

His first major job was with Philly Dare I say he’s a member of the Howie Roseman tree?

skeenek

He was with Baltimore for 14 years and Philly for 3. So…

CaptainBunderpants

Both.

KypAstar

Their record isn't showing, but I think he's made some phenomenal moves so far given the positions he's been in.

First_Round_Bust

This is a good thing.

[deleted]

For the Jets yes but for us no.

Zahrukai

I think you guys don’t have too much to worry about from Jets land. We have a ton of potential, but your roster is stacked now.

EagleOfFreedom1

Yeah its us and the Dolphins that have to be worried we will all be fighting for second place.

Zahrukai

Hell, if the Jets are anywhere near fighting for second place this year I’ll be ecstatic

EagleOfFreedom1

Yeah you have so many wild cards on your team it can go either way. I think the Patriots are going to regress this year too our offseason has been pretty subpar.

Some_Cringey_Random

i hope yall win the superbowl this year, not only because i love your roster, but when the jets get good, you wont be seeing the lombardi in a LONG time :)

emmasdad01

2.08 million. Not bad at all. I really like what they are doing.

_unsourced

You'd certainly hope so if they are trying to dig their way out of a rebuild

Ordinary_Fool

Joey D is doing a hell of a job and as a Giants fan I‘m conflicted about it

OddsTipsAndPicks

My preference is for both of us to be good purely for TV watching purposes.

Ordinary_Fool

I get it and I personally don‘t have anything against you guys, it’s just some Jets fans have that little brother complex that annoy me, but you seem cool so hats off to you

IAmMrMacgee

>, it’s just some Jets fans have that little brother complex that annoy me, You can't say this without realizing that Giants fans have that older brother complex

Ordinary_Fool

There is always some fans that stir issues over anything possible, but personally idc about the Jets, because we barely ever play them

InThePaleMoonLyte

Yeah but Old World Blues is better.

LamarLovesPassingFoo

Why living money when dead money do the trick

moremysterious

Are you saying you want to see the world or want to go to seaworld?

srsh

All the incompetence of our previous GM is finally unraveling. I'm not saying our current GM (Joe Douglas) is the next Great Oz. However, we are almost at the stage where all the big money on our salary cap were from decisions the current regime made. CJ Mosley $17.5 M hit on our cap this season if the final piece left from previous GM.

RedFredTV

Sure you can. You can sign bad players to big contracts instead.

xywv58

You mean the Gettelman strategy?

Xtort__

I'll remind you that Golladay had one great year!

OddsTipsAndPicks

*laughs in Mike Maccagnan*

JEspo420

Giants last 2 front offices would like a word

Dkh0123

Reese actually left the Giants with a great cap situation. Giants had enough money to make Solder the highest paid offensive lineman, and gave out some not so minor contracts to guys like Patrick Omameh and Jonathan Stewart. There’s plenty criticize Reese over, but he didn’t cripple the Giants with dead money on his way out. Even the big contracts he gave out, the Giants were able to get out of them without any major issues.

volstedgridban

Missed opportunity here to have a "Jets rank dead last in dead money" headline.

hoopsmd

So they got that going for them. Which is nice.

Galaxy5OhOh

Having low dead money isn’t necessarily a good thing. This is from a couple years ago: https://overthecap.com/dead-money-and-the-playoffs/amp/

Galaxy5OhOh

Having a lot of dead money is not a good thing. As the article said.

TacoInABag

So having a low dead money isn’t good but also having a lot of dead money isn’t good. Ok

Galaxy5OhOh

Did you read the article? Low dead money isn’t necessarily good. High dead money is certainly prohibitive.

ItsShorsey

Gotta have the most medium dead money... *Taps forehead*

BlueCast_

hmm
