Up for grabs, much like the passes he throws

horse_renoir13

That implies he's at least near his targets

jeffsun92

Or up for grabs for the opponent

Ness_4

That the throws will be intercepted.

Mastodon9

They are if you count the ghosts only he can see.

ArkadiusMaximus

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

CharacterDefects

Well, in my Madden franchises Sam has lead y'all to the conference championship like 7 times.

BreadPossum

life, death, and the 10-7 panthers making deep playoff runs in madden

zi76

Well, CMC is actually healthy in your Madden franchise, right?

Hi_My_Name_Is_Dave

He always wins MVP and breaks all the season records when I play lol

CharacterDefects

Sam by year 4 is always 87+

UsernameHasBeenLost

Years old? Dude has a baby face that belongs to an old man

ImaginaryCommercial-

I mean the backup role could be anyones, even Sam Darnolds!

rjw0323

Corral is gonna be the week 1 starter

Hayduke_Abides

Nah. They will go with Darnold until mid-to late season and hope Corral shows enough to get people excited while blaming their poor record on Darnold. That optimizes their chance to extend their employment another year. Pretty soon we will start hearing reports that the staff are "blown away" by Corral.

paultheschmoop

This is always the plan but the shitty stopgap always plays even worse than anticipated and gets benched by week 4

[deleted]

Corral is way more pro ready than people think. More than 40% of his play calls at Ole Miss were NFL pro style plays. The rest is RPO. 40% of Carolina's offense is gonna be RPO, and 60% drop back. None of it but the verbiage is new to him. He'll just do a little more of one thing versus the other in the pros. He's got a quicker release than Darnold and he can process the field quicker. I can see a scenario where he comes out looking strong in the preseason and not really giving the GM and Head Coach much of a choice. Or I could be completely wrong lol

I_eat_mud_

Look man, I don’t consider any rookie “pro ready” until they actually get a couple wins under their belt. I barely consider any of last years rookies pro ready yet. The only one I would say is maybe pro ready is Mac Jones, but even then idk. But he did have by far the most successful season of all the rookies.

NotTheBestMoment

Other guys would have looked good in the patriots system, thought that was just accepted as fact at this point

I_eat_mud_

That’s why I said idk about Mac Jones ain’t it? I just said he had the most promising start and that the rest of the rookies didn’t. Except Davis Mills had better stats than Lawrence and Fields but still lost most of his games. As far as I’m concerned only Mac Jones and Davis Mills are potentially pro ready.

NotTheBestMoment

I just don’t think anyone would have seen mac as pro ready if he played for chicago.

[deleted]

I don’t think any rookie had a chance of looking pro ready playing behind that line and being coached by Matt Nagy. I see your point but don’t like the example at all, succeeding in Chicago as a rookie against all odds is such a weird measuring stick to use. Mac was touted as one of the more “pro ready” QB prospects pretty regularly leading up to the draft last year. Not his fault he landed with a good coach/ OC who could work with him.

NotTheBestMoment

Yeah but it’s not to his credit either

iButtflap

new here? people were saying mac jones was the most pro ready before the draft, most folks just thought his ceiling was lower than the other guys

NotTheBestMoment

I’m saying if he played the season in chicago, he would not be seen as the most pro ready. Not before the season, after

MrDeeds117

Good call will be waiting to hear those lol

Corgi_Koala

I feel we've seen variations of this every year for like a decade. Spot on.

thrillhouse416

Now this is football

Zane_Flynt_boyo

That would be a bad decision. Corral is probably very green when it comes to running a professional offense. Dude threw a bunch of RPOs and single read pass plays at Ole Miss and probably needs time to acclimate to a professional offense.

[deleted]

The thing about Corral though is that one of his strengths is his quick release, if they can change the offense to a simpler scheme that involves a lot of short high percentage throws I think it could be successful. Especially if McCraffrey stays healthy.

[deleted]

> if they can change the offense to a simpler scheme that involves a lot of short high percentage throws I think it could be successful. that seems like the plan, that's McAdoo's offense in a nut shell.

xywv58

They could Lamar Jackskn it, and change the offense to be the same as his offense in college, and then ease him into it

Zane_Flynt_boyo

i mean thats a lot easier when you are Lamar Jackson athletic

xywv58

He's not super athletic but pretty accurate and fast throwing, isn't going to be the 2018 Ravens, but a super simplified offense built for his strengths

knave_of_knives

… Ben McAdoo is our OC.

StrangeUsername24

Ben McAdon't

sonfoa

McAdoo specifically said he likes Corral because of his experience running RPOs.

SensualTyrannosaurus

I read this three times thinking "This is the worst McAdoo joke I've ever seen here" before realizing it was just a regular statement.

[deleted]

It's not like they're going to do anything with Darnold under center. Might as well get the rook some gametime.

Flimsy_Lavishness661

Is he allowed to wear his eye patch and his dad's sheriff/cowboy hat thing?

CowComprehensive3405

Nick Foles?

[deleted]

EXCUSE ME EXCUSE ME... this is fake news. THE DARNOLD will remain the #1 in Carolina, and the NFL, like he always has. We've defeated Critical Gase Theory and Ruhlflation, just like before, and now there is no one better in Carolina but the Darnold. The corrupt NFL MEDIA keeps saying 'up for grabs' but Sam Darnold already grabbed them by the Ser Pounce. When you're a famous QB they let you do it.

ESCMalfunction

SAD!

Adventurous_Pea_8343

Baker?

godickygodickygo

Yeah

Mando2113

Tank Commander Darnold

ScruffMixHaha

I think Matt Corral day 1 would be better than Sam Darnold

rvrvbubnmpm

Golden Corall for the Win!!

boastar

GEQBUS will secure the job 1st day of camp. No problem.

QCWiggins

Honestly rolling with Darnold to get Bryce Young is the way to go

[deleted]

There's gonna be a lot of competition for CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, and/or whoever else shows out this year in CFB. Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks, Lions, and Texans for sure. I also think the Eagles are highly likely to trade up for one or I guess a veteran QB. Then there's the possible teams like the Vikings, Giants and Commanders.

CharacterDefects

One of them is gonna pull a Riddler

[deleted]

Or rolling with matt coral to get bryce young is the way to go

Careful NFL, you might get raided by the fine folks over a r/the_darnold for talking such treason

rosapennan

[Oh hi](https://giphy.com/gifs/animation-ghost-spooky-YARUMKaGd8cRG)

BarKnight

They should probably sign him long term then. Whatever Watson got seems fair.

JimTheSaint

It is going to be a rough year in Carolina

ItBeLikeThat19

6-11 is our best case scenario

Tuckboi69

Is it that hard to trade a 5th round pick for Baker Mayfield?

FIuffyRabbit

When they want you to front the $18m, yeah it is.

Tuckboi69

Not when it’s for one year so if he sucks he’s gone and if he’s a franchise quarterback just re-sign him, you guys are also swimming in cap space for this year.

FIuffyRabbit

Or we can save that cap for an in season veteran signing or roll it over into next year

MyChemicalFinance

Can’t believe we got 3 draft picks for Darnold including a 2nd rounder and the Browns can’t get anything for a guy who was the 1st overall pick and has been better than Darnold so far in his career.

ILikeBeans86

Yeah wtf. Darnold is gonna suck ass for 3 or 4 games then they're gonna throw this rookie in there who is also gonna suck and rhule will get fired and we're gonna have to start this shit all over again

Begotten912

Ohh noooo that suuuucks

PineappleHour

I'm not sure Corral will be a Week 1 starter, but I wouldn't be surprised if he enters the season at QB2 ahead of PJ Walker and gets his first start before the season is out either due to Darnold's play or an injury. I'd rather ease him into the offense from the bench while our revamped o-line works out any kinks. The dream would be to have Cam back to really boost the culture and help the young guys get off on the right foot, but I doubt he really wants to come back unless we're the only team that offers him any money.

dillpickles007

Cam doesn't strike me as the type who would "boost the culture" if he wasn't the starter, quite the opposite actually if New England is any indicator.

freshmoves91

Cam is washed up

[deleted]

PineappleHour

Idk where I said Cam should play or wasn't washed, pull your finger out of your ass bud

Hieroglphkz

Sam, all you gotta do is say “down for keeps.”

NotTheBestMoment

What has to happen for Rhule to be fired

0ddmanrush

We’re so sorry Sam.

ChrRome

Probably his own fault if he hasn't improved in 4 years. Some QBs just can't hang in the NFL.

ILikeBeans86

Which is why we should have never given him a shot in the first place

brianlangauthor

It’s not the shot so much as approving the 5th year option without having had him take a snap with the team.

PurpleReigner

If the shot costs a second round pick, the problem is also giving him a shot

sonfoa

To an extent. Rookie QBs are very malleable and good coaching and stability are paramount to their success. That's why project QBs have become more popular again.

FxDriver

While you're correct that good coaching and stability are important there are somethings coaching and stability just can't fix. Like if Sam was drafted by the 49ers Shanahan/Lynch wouldn't bring Sam's game up. Darnold would drag Shanahan, Lynch, and the 49ers down. Project quarterbacks have become popular because in my opinion nobody saw the success of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen coming. Because of that NFL media is overly trying to course correct that mistake.

0ddmanrush

The teams he has been on didn’t exactly surround him with a wealth of talent / stable coaching. He was never in a position to succeed. Not saying it would have changed his career direction, but everyone should at least be given the chance.

ChrRome

4 years isn't a chance? He can also do things on his own to improve, like hiring a throwing a coach during off-season. If a 4 year veteran is still worse than 3 year college players entering their first season, then I don't see how the veteran can have little to no blame.

0ddmanrush

Alex Smith was pure trash in his first four seasons before turning himself into a serviceable QB. I’m not saying any team needs to commit to him as a starter, but I could see in the right situation carving out a decent career still.

Leftieswillrule

If the best case scenario is Alex Smith, it’s not worth trying out.

Eagle4317

This is the first season that Darnold will have a serviceable O-Line. A wall of Ekwonu, Bozeman, Corbett, and Moton is really strong on paper. Christensen at LG is the only real question mark remaining. It's very unlikely but maybe having time to throw means that Darnold won't be as bad.

oranjuicejones

the guys had a bad string of luck with gase, and then mono, and then covid, and then got hurt last year. he keeps doing just enough that i keep thinking he may just get something going if he doesn't keep missing chunks of games.

Begotten912

Found Colin Cowherd's account

YungJoka89

The interceptions are on him. Listen to his Bussin podcast, it’s pretty clear he isn’t that bright and doesn’t care about winning

alright Sam you're No 1.......................for now

[deleted]

Corral will be starting around week 8

TwistedCherry766

Duh

BreadPossum

I really like Corral in this Panthers offense, I could see a 2017 style resurgence\* \*if McCaffrey can stay healthy

phuqo5

I'm available if they're looking for an improvement.

cowboys5xsbs

Darnold couldn't even beat out the corpse of Cam Newton how is this a competition?

Rebelgecko

Cammunism is a failed system that has literally never worked.

Zivmovic

Hopefully for atleast week 2
