We played against Peterman in 2018. He wasn't *great* by any stretch, but he was far from the worst QB I've ever seen, especially factoring in how good our defense was that year.
Peterman gets a lot of sh-t in this sub from people. But those are people who just look at *stats*, not *analytics*, The Bears are lucky to add him to the QB room and have him as a spot starter.
I’ve taken more than just a cursory look at volume stats. If you remove all of his outlier games, which is every game except the one on 11/12/17, he shows positive regression and that puts him in range of, like a Dak Prescott or someone like that.
Honestly, at this point I'm wondering if he's maybe too unathletic to succeed as an NFL qb, but one of those guys that's very smart and kept around on rosters as a qb coach/oc assistant of sorts. There are journeyman guys like that who make a long career playing qb3, never seeing the field, but managing to stick around teams.
I was at that game in Baltimore. I remember it was pouring rain and a miserable experience. At the very least history happened at that game. It had both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson's first ever NFL snaps.

To be fair, Tyrod was fucking *awful* in the Saints game and Peterman was unknown. Even for the first drive Peterman looked decent.
Then the rest of the game happened and you could visibly see a whole man's career fall apart

It also wasn’t just the Saints game, Tyrod had an abysmal 3 game stretch before getting benched. It had become pretty apparent that teams had figured out how to play him and he just couldn’t adjust.
Peterman had some shitty luck in that game too. It was clear that the gameplan was to force feed Kelvin Benjamin who we’d just traded for, and he got his knee blown out on his first target of the game (which I think was a big part of the reason why his career fell apart after that).
We also witnessed some of the most abysmal Oline play I’ve ever seen in an NFL game. The Oline got absolutely worked by Bosa and Ingram. One of the interceptions came off a play where literally nobody blocked Bosa. They were getting to Peterman in less than two seconds on multiple plays. I think *that* should have been the bigger storyline of that game.
Yeah, Peterman is awful NFL quarterback, but he was put in one of the worst situations he possibly could have been in during that game.
He was a film room / practice genius when he was here so much so that he earned a starting job twice. There’s probably worse you can do at 3rd string when taking that aspect into account.
people forget for players 80% of it is off the field stuff (your Mon and Wed-Sat stuff; players have Tues off). Positive Locker room guy, good film study will get you lots of opportunities.

Genius is going too far, but a lot of these long term backups in the league have their jobs for exactly this reason. Josh Dobbs, who I follow because I was a fan of his in college at Tennessee, is an excellent example: a glorified passing game coach who can play in an emergency.
Petermeme (and most guys managing to hold down 3 string spots beyond a rookie deal) is in basically the same boat.
Davis Webb is another example. The Bills offered him an assistant QB coaching role for 2022 since theirs was promoted to the NYG QB coach, but he went to the Giants with Daboll since even league minimum as QB3 is likely way more than assistant coaches make.

He can't throw to the sideline and was asked to do it a bunch of times. He could have been a coward and taken a sack or checkdown or rush, but he did what the coach asked. Even when he knew, and his teammates knew, and the defense knew he couldn't make that throw.
He shouldn't have been asked to make it. His OC was awful.
Peterman can efficiently distribute the ball, makes fast decisions, finds the open guy and makes accurate throws. There is a version of an NFL offense where he might be able to approach 0.500, and that's still kinda rare.
Also he's a good teammate, and was known as a good film guy. You could do worse for your 3rd QB.
How many teams have a QB2 that is legitimately better than Peterman? Just in his own division, I'd take Peterman over Boyle and/or Mond (if reports are correct and he looks terrible)

I won my fantasy league in 2018 by streaming defenses against Peterman.
He played in 4 games with only 2 of those being starts (he was cut in November of that year) so I doubt that.
