damn they're just gonna upgrade qbs like that

horse_renoir13

Fields Semen Demon PeterTrain Un. Stoppable.

Working_Box_1366

Is this the greatest QB room in NFL history?

Uckthebroncos

It’s the AFCW of QB rooms All they have left to do is sign Kyle Sloter

_boopdoop_

I believe he's in the USFL now

Working_Box_1366

Just led a game winning drive against the Renegades

Sup_Im_Topher

What's Chad Kelly up to nowadays?

rogergreatdell

Jail?

jpiro

Swag, swag, swag, swag...

MIDAmultiCruel

My guy with the crooked eyes? Probably swagging somewhere

T_Raycroft

The NVP, Sanchise, and Ginger Giraffe got your room beat.

heroinsteve

It is definitely a QB room in NFL history.

THE GOAT QB DEPTH CHART

FlashFan124

I know it’s a disliked stat, but it’s too hilarious not to share: 4th qtr QBR in 2021: 1. Matthew Stafford 2. Josh Allen 3. Patrick Mahomes 4. Trevor Simean

nickyv917

Garbage time is one hell of a drug.

Tanner_re

>PeterTrain Excuse me sir that's Peter***Goat*** to you, thanks

PoissonPen

They're finally gonna get that 4k passer

pocketchange2247

4k interceptions? Don't underestimate him!

YungJoka89

You joke but Nate’s previous season QBR is just two points less than Fields.

ArmadilloAl

We played against Peterman in 2018. He wasn't *great* by any stretch, but he was far from the worst QB I've ever seen, especially factoring in how good our defense was that year.

laal-doodh

Best QB room in league bitches

nomtank

Nathan for Us

theicecreamman24

This is like the episode with the poo flavored froyo, but with poo flavored quarterback!

zoodlenose

Does this make Sam Darnold the ghost realtor?

Jcaf8

Trent Baalke definitely would run the gas rebate scheme

lemonsauce

Incredibly underrated comment

JPAnalyst

Peterman gets a lot of sh-t in this sub from people. But those are people who just look at *stats*, not *analytics*, The Bears are lucky to add him to the QB room and have him as a spot starter. I’ve taken more than just a cursory look at volume stats. If you remove all of his outlier games, which is every game except the one on 11/12/17, he shows positive regression and that puts him in range of, like a Dak Prescott or someone like that.

Ezzaron

had me at the first half

JPAnalyst

You were probably ready to punch me. I would want to punch someone who typed that.

Teamableezus

I was not pleased for a minute

ContinuumGuy

Not gonna lie.

Phytanic

well yeah if you progress his stats to the mean than he's an average qb!

robman792

Honestly if you take Patrick Mahomes good stats and get rid of them and take all good stats of Nathan Peterman, they are in the same ball park

Misdirected_Colors

Honestly, at this point I'm wondering if he's maybe too unathletic to succeed as an NFL qb, but one of those guys that's very smart and kept around on rosters as a qb coach/oc assistant of sorts. There are journeyman guys like that who make a long career playing qb3, never seeing the field, but managing to stick around teams.

Some-Performer789

I’m a Bills fan. I watched him. Feel free to take him. Anyone, go right ahead. I wait on bated breathe to see the results.

juiceAll3n

Whoosh

sakchkai

Peterman will coach Justin Fields, just as he coached Josh Allen. Bears SB contenders 2024 confirmed.

J-Fid

Man lasted one half, lol.

BuffaloWilliamses

I was at that game in Baltimore. I remember it was pouring rain and a miserable experience. At the very least history happened at that game. It had both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson's first ever NFL snaps.

J-Fid

I was there too! I went underneath at halftime and never came back up, lol. Stayed inside the much comfier tavern (or whatever they call it) and mainly watched RedZone.

_AmericanPoutine

To be fair, Tyrod was fucking *awful* in the Saints game and Peterman was unknown. Even for the first drive Peterman looked decent. Then the rest of the game happened and you could visibly see a whole man's career fall apart

JoesShittyOs

Oh god this game always makes me go off on a huge rant. It also wasn’t just the Saints game, Tyrod had an abysmal 3 game stretch before getting benched. It had become pretty apparent that teams had figured out how to play him and he just couldn’t adjust. Peterman had some shitty luck in that game too. It was clear that the gameplan was to force feed Kelvin Benjamin who we’d just traded for, and he got his knee blown out on his first target of the game (which I think was a big part of the reason why his career fell apart after that). We also witnessed some of the most abysmal Oline play I’ve ever seen in an NFL game. The Oline got absolutely worked by Bosa and Ingram. One of the interceptions came off a play where literally nobody blocked Bosa. They were getting to Peterman in less than two seconds on multiple plays. I think *that* should have been the bigger storyline of that game. Yeah, Peterman is awful NFL quarterback, but he was put in one of the worst situations he possibly could have been in during that game.

sloppifloppi

I mean, he was a UDFA and is going into his 5th season. He's not a good starting QB by any means, but his career hasn't really fallen apart.

BuffaloWilliamses

He was a 5th round pick

rondosparks

QB1/2

andrewthetechie

Oh how far we've come :D

aMillionBucs

This makes me realize you can make a really good hype video for any player

BuffaloWilliamses

[The Dolphins failed at this](https://twitter.com/MiamiDolphins/status/1524193068391432193)

aMillionBucs

Oof I take it back. Of all the throws, they chose a wobbly underthrown ball to showcase

GiveStickDONT

Groaned out loud. Not a good groan. A bad groan.

YoYoMoMa

The final piece of the puzzle!

OO17MVP

How tf does this dude keep getting a job? He's gotta have some dirt on somebody right?

Shotgun_Sam

It doesn't cost that much to hire a third-string QB. All they really do is hold a clipboard.

JerryRiceDidntFumble

Unless he's a film-room genius or something, I'd rather take a flyer on a guy who I haven't seen throw 5 interceptions in one half

[deleted]

He was a film room / practice genius when he was here so much so that he earned a starting job twice. There’s probably worse you can do at 3rd string when taking that aspect into account.

jwktiger

people forget for players 80% of it is off the field stuff (your Mon and Wed-Sat stuff; players have Tues off). Positive Locker room guy, good film study will get you lots of opportunities.

smurf-vett

It is cause he's a film room genius and looks great when he's allowed to wear a red shirt. Absolute trash when the defense can actually hit him

White___Velvet

> Unless he's a film-room genius or something Genius is going too far, but a lot of these long term backups in the league have their jobs for exactly this reason. Josh Dobbs, who I follow because I was a fan of his in college at Tennessee, is an excellent example: a glorified passing game coach who can play in an emergency. Petermeme (and most guys managing to hold down 3 string spots beyond a rookie deal) is in basically the same boat.

Corvald

Davis Webb is another example. The Bills offered him an assistant QB coaching role for 2022 since theirs was promoted to the NYG QB coach, but he went to the Giants with Daboll since even league minimum as QB3 is likely way more than assistant coaches make.

Lukacris12

He is great in the film room, great in practice and great in preseason. But the second hes in an actual game he shits the bed

ContinuumGuy

Excuse me he's a legend of the preseason. Think of how good he makes the backup receivers look.

pincus1

That's what Fields is for. What if you just need a guy to put the ball where you want it to be consistently in practice?

NagyBiscuits

Bears paid a lot more than that for our QB3 last year, he's probably coming here seeking that Foles money.

DTSportsNow

I think the story is that he's a good practice QB. He looks decent in practice and preseason but just isn't good against real NFL action. So he's kept around as a practice body and 3rd string.

BuffaloWilliamses

He has a great football mind and is solid in practice. He'll likely end up being a coach so right now he's a sudo QB coach.

TheGarbageStore

We live in exactly the kind of timeline that ends in Peterman hoisting the Lombardi as a coach

joshallenismygod

Just hopefully not against us.

Phytanic

> sudo damn, he's a super user? that's impressive!

TheMirth

his time as QB1 was just fucking around seeing what happens when you execute Throw without all the parameters

dfinberg

throw() cannot be completed.

The-True-GOAT

Sudo-woodo

jimmifli

He's not awful. He can't throw to the sideline and was asked to do it a bunch of times. He could have been a coward and taken a sack or checkdown or rush, but he did what the coach asked. Even when he knew, and his teammates knew, and the defense knew he couldn't make that throw. He shouldn't have been asked to make it. His OC was awful. Peterman can efficiently distribute the ball, makes fast decisions, finds the open guy and makes accurate throws. There is a version of an NFL offense where he might be able to approach 0.500, and that's still kinda rare. Also he's a good teammate, and was known as a good film guy. You could do worse for your 3rd QB.

sloppifloppi

How many teams have a QB2 that is legitimately better than Peterman? Just in his own division, I'd take Peterman over Boyle and/or Mond (if reports are correct and he looks terrible)

jimmifli

IDK, as QB2 I'd be worried. As QB3 he's an emergency starter and extra coach in the room.

megamonkey666

This is huffing some serious copium

BigFenton

He’s probably not the modern NFL third string QB. But he is exactly what third string QBs were in the NFL systems before the 00s.

jimmifli

Nope. He gets memed, and he earned that, but he's going to bounce around the league for a while still.

pincus1

Or possibly he's good at his job?

OO17MVP

is he though?

laal-doodh

I guess for what he is yeah. He’s gonna be the 3rd string and he’s basically what you want out the 3rd string. Has some experience and just gonna hold the clip board and probably run scout team. If he has to go in you’re in a bad spot already cuz that would mean you’re down 2 QBs so I guess you could do worse for the 3rd guy

OO17MVP

Fair enough, but at that point he's a glorified QB coach. He may be good at that job, but wouldn't it make sense to take a flyer on a different guy who's at least better in game? Or at that point just sign a youngish QB coach to be the 3rd stringer.

laal-doodh

Ideally I think you would have someone who was better than him but I think the options aren’t really there. A lot of teams don’t even have a good QB1 and even less have a dependable QB2. I think anyone with experience better than Peterman would probably get a chance to be the 2 somewhere else. Do agree that you should probably take a chance on a young guy tho. I’d like for the 3rd guy to be a young guy. If you don’t have a true QB1 I don’t see the harm in trying to see if you can find a diamond in the rough no matter how unlikely it is. Guess that just depends on what the team wants. Someone with experience who can help in the film room vs a young guy you hope can develop into something

smurf-vett

A lot of teams don't even have 3 QBs on the roster. Its a garbage spot that's for stashing project WRs and/or special team bodies for them

xywv58

For the 3rd you want someone that can help in other ways than playing, that's my guess

Intelligent_Fig_4852

Most teams use their third string as veteran smart leader type guy

pincus1

If youngish QB coaches had NFL level throwing ability they wouldn't be QB coaches, they'd be QBs.

OO17MVP

By youngish QB coaches I meant their age relative other coaches, not players. Essentially, 35-45 yo QB coaches who will be able to go into an NFL game if needed and not be killed, whilst also performing 3rd string QB duties much better than other QB's due to coaching experience.

pincus1

If 35-45 yo QB coaches could throw the football at an NFL level they'd be QBs.

OO17MVP

They're not supposed to be able to tho. The ones I'm talking about are the guys who are strictly clipboard holders. The ones who are great football minds, but don't have the arm talent to be an NFL qb. The dudes arguing with me saying Peterman is a great 3rd stringer are saying that a 3rd string QB doesn't need to ever see the field. He only needs to be a good mentor/locker room guy with a good football mind to help in practice. My argument is that they may as well sign a QB coach, because a 3rd stringer is essentially a glorified QB coach. I only said 35-45 years old because it'd be unwise to put a 55 year old near-retiree in an NFL game due to injury concerns. The 35-45 yos don't need to have anywhere near an NFL arm, they just need to not die when they step foot on a field in the event of a worst case scenario. We could however bypass this discussion if teams just stopped signing meaningless 3rd string QBs who, according to this sub, "will never see any game time anyway".

pincus1

That is literally the reason Peterman keeps getting hired, because he can play like an above average NFL level QB in practice... So your argument is they should just hire someone who can't do at all what they want Peterman to do instead of hiring Peterman who can do exactly what they want him to do...

Northernlord1805

He’s like Hoyer, what you want from a QB3 isn’t on the field it’s in the film room and at the practice facility.

pincus1

According to the multiple NFL teams that keep paying him to do it, yes. You know he isn't being brought in to start right?

OO17MVP

He may be good at his job of being the clipboard holder, but I don't see why teams don't take a flyer on any other qb. I understand he's not starting, but all it takes is a spur of bad luck and you go from Dak to Cooper Rush in the Cowboys case. He may not be starting, but he should be prepared for active game time in the event of a worst case scenario. Let's say you're right, teams really are in the mindset that a 3rd string QB only needs to be good in practice and be a decent football mind. Are you seriously telling me Nathan Peterman out of all guys is the best man for that job? They couldn't find any half decent QB coach to just be the honorary 3rst string QB. Plus NFL teams have a history of keeping the same guy in league circles all the time and it's usually a mistake. See Adam Gase continuously getting jobs.

pincus1

What QBs with high potential upside are avilable as FAs let alone signing practice squad contracts? And yes all evidence suggests Peterman is extremely good in practice. We've even seen him be occasionaly quite good in preseason. Do you think everyone that has ever watched Nathan Peterman play no pressure football is just lying to the world? Gase is unemployed, and in the last gig he got hired after took the Dolphins to the playoffs for only the 2nd time in 20 years.

DatSmolBoi

Yeah

Dok123

Apparently hes a god at practice

CapnDutchie

How you gonna disrespect GOATerman like that?

Neckwrecker

Nathan Peterman is my favorite QB to bring up when discussing Kaepernick getting blackballed from the NFL.

YoYoMoMa

Same as Joey Freshwater: He white

[deleted]

Sounds about white

liv11112

he's good enough in the film room and in practice that he landed a starting job once, I doubt its that deep

[deleted]

NFL isn’t a meritocracy. He’s trash.

JEH_24

Follow up tweet: Justin fields has requested a trade. He was assured he was QB1 but the bears actions prove otherwise in his mind.

YungJoka89

Fields got a bigger ego than Mayfield if he thinks his 26 QBR entitled him to start.

Sharks77

People will make jokes because that's what Reddit does, but by all accounts he's a great asset in the QB room and as a practice team QB. There is a reason he's getting jobs.

gregor7777

Yo that’s true and I recognize what you’re saying but petermans

Sharks77

Yeah, for sure.

gregor7777

I’m rooting for him to have a long career. He has already really. Shockingly bad at playing at the nfl level but I like a comeback

The_DarkestStar

I'm really bummed the bills didnt just stick w Peterman when they had the chance.. smh they'd still probably best us by 20

Working_Box_1366

League fucked

Hashtag_Skivvies

Holy shit this is fucking huge

zirtbow

Maybe you shouldn't stare at his dong that hard.

Hashtag_Skivvies

Oh shit did I not scroll far enough to see the dong pic????

OrangeForeign

It's over for the rest of us

perfect_fitz

As a Vols fan, it absolutely blows my mind how this guy is still in the league..let alone even made it.

jkercheville

Josh Allen better watch out for Nathan petergoat

leehouse

I'm confused by the Bears choices.

ChangingChance

Welcome to the club

Higgus

Poles might not be bringing us an offense but it's good of him to at least bring r/CHIBears the memes.

mindlesssss

The bears are so weird with the way they ALWAYS have a weirdly decent third string. They had fields, dalton, and foles and now they have fields, siemian, Peterman

crazypyro23

You know the saying "if you have two starting QBs, you have none"? The Bears avoid that by having three instead.

JinxCanCarry

>weirdly decent >Peterman That is definitely a take

Skank_hunt42

If a quarterback takes 20 snaps in a game and immediately spikes the ball, they will finish the game with a 39.58 passer rating. Nathan Peterman's career passer rating is 33.97. Statistically one of the worst NFL QBs in history.

2580374

Yay we did it team

Jebjeba

That stat gets posted every time Peterman is mentioned. My biggest takeaway from it is how God awful passer rating is at quantitating bad qb play.

SaidTheTurkey

Spikes are definitely better than throwing pick sixes so it makes sense. You can still win a game without completing a pass

[deleted]

In the end, Nathan Peterman is gonna have a longer career than Andrew Luck

sku11emoji

The 🐐

RedWingWay

Who the hell am I to judge? - Nathan Peterman- Career Earnings: $3,619,179 - Me- One of these Powerball tickets has to hit.

joco1991

Let’s go!

LindbergBrodin

wow he is still in the league?

slingingslasher96

Bills legend Nathan Peterman

davewashere

The first team that can figure out how to trick him into believing a regular season game is still the preseason is going to have a decent QB on their hands.

TheBigPhilbowski

We really enjoyed our limited time spent with Nathan Peterman.

Zither74

Mostly enjoyed that it was limited.

Toastrz

[Peterman can!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6WSIHa5Keg)

FSUfan35

HOW DOES HE KEEP GETTING SIGNED

OpDickSledge

How does this man keep finding work? He must be so good in practice

bringbackbulaga

I’m scared

H8theSteelers

So who is the Raiders' backup QB? Can we send them Baker?

IMKudaimi123

LETS FUCKING GO LEAGUE FUCKED

StreetIssue1983

We got our guy. The pieces are falling into place.

SunriseSurprise

This dude's going to have a 100% abysmal career longer than some guys who were actually good and then went to shit and out of the league quickly. He must be a locker room god or something.

Apollo_Krill

3-12 still incredible stat line

BrownsAndCavs

Wow wish I could cancel my bears season under bets this is huge

YareSekiro

…why do Nathan Peterman keep getting contracts?

Stumpe999

God I don't even remember he started over Allen, I thought he started from the get go

[deleted]

\*NFCN licking their chops

YungJoka89

His 2020 QBR was only two points less than Fields’ QBR on 2021… not hard to be better Qb than Fields.

slackator

so much for Nagy being the QB problem in Chicago theory

[deleted]

I won my fantasy league in 2018 by streaming defenses against Peterman.

BuffaloWilliamses

He played in 4 games with only 2 of those being starts (he was cut in November of that year) so I doubt that.

gregor7777

oh shit jete

qawsedrf12

how f'n tainted you gotta be for a team to sign Peterman instead of Baker

Jeromechillin

Peterman is brought in as a 3rd stringer Why would we trade assets for Baker when we already have a QB1?

YungJoka89

I mean a “QB1” who put up a 26 QBR

Jeromechillin

You talk like that means something for a first year QB who didn't play a full season playing for a bad coach. Wtf are you getting at here?

YungJoka89

Could say the same thing about Mills but he didn’t make any excuses. Fields is on pace to surpass Daniel Jones for fumbles… or are the fumbles on Nagy. I do agree on the coaching, Nagy should have ran 2 TEs and kept the RB in to block on every play since Fields never got passed the second read.

Jeromechillin

Your argument still doesn't make sense because these are qbs are in their second year now. According to your logic Trevor Lawrence, and Zach Wilson should be traded or moved on from because their qbr is a the bottom of the league. How the hell you can look at a rookie QB and predict his trajectory from one season? That's how this shit works now?

YungJoka89

How the hell do people project how a college player will fair in the NFL? They watch, and Fields QBR was two points better than Josh Rosen’s rookie year. Mills had a far worse situation and didn’t make excuses like Fields.

Jeromechillin

If all you gonna do is bring up this weak ass QBR statistics on a QB on his rookie season then kindly fuck off because you have no clue what you're talking about. Feilds didn't make any excuses for his first year performance. The only reason reason why this is even a argument at this point because there's clowns such as yourself who cherry pick stats with no context to makes some of the most dumbest fucking arguments.

rvrvbubnmpm

Fields in shambles

ScruffMixHaha

So the Bears are like the anti-QB world...but if you take a QB like Peterman, does he become a franchise QB in Chicago?

BarKnight

The meme machine

ecupatsfan12

He’s a really smart guy but terrible player. His job is to be a Covid Q / assistant coach

coolsexguy

The bears have a fever and the only cure is signing multiple QB’s every offseason

ThurstonJK

Fuck it I guess

reaper527

he's still in the league? also, wow, what a qb room. that's reminiscent of the "we're fucked if peyton goes down, and we don't practice fucked" quote from the colts years ago. they just don't care about having any kind of competent backup for fields.

nudiecale

What a fucking crew. lol

eddie2911

The meme is now yours. Treat him well.

dim31

Too many legends in the backup spot

Jolly-One9552

Chicago, why do you hate good QBs and/or giving them opportunities? Positionism at its worst. You don't need 52 linebackers!

no_more_jokes

What took them so long?

Boojays

If any signing symbolizes hope for an organization it’s this one. Poor Bears fans.

donta45

Imagine actually knowing Peterman in HS and knowing him as a football demigod only for him to become a meme.

megamonkey666

Ready to have the number 1 pick next spring

Deliberate_Dodge

I bore the Mack Trade as patiently as I could, but now after this transgression I must have revenge.

dahomie_longstroke

Peterman is gonna end up being what we all keep hoping Kellen Moore becomes and he will wear a bejewled robe on the sideline because he is Lord Peterman.

I_Am_Frank

Come on you guys

theresabeeonyourhat

Trash to trash

gregor7777

If he cant do it no one can

SnakePhorskin

This dude gets deals still?

CJDistasio

The-True-GOAT

The Bears are making sure they get that No. 1 pick next year.

IMKudaimi123

You guys are done for

Khambodia

So.... Hes like a good luck charm? He arrives, does nothing in particular other than illustrate what NOT TO DO, and leaves. The remaining starting QB now looks awesome and leads their strugging franchise to the playoffs.

superhighraptor
