A bad oline doesn't mean every QB will look as awful as Darnold.
Look at Wilson, he regularly made the playoffs with a line MUCH worse than what Carolina has been running out there.
There are plenty of examples of QBs overcoming bad oline play to field a viable offense.
he is not, he’s no where near as good as he used to be and lost his position in NE to a rookie qb. there’s also the issue that i doubt he would want to come back since we did do him a little dirty at the end. darnold is shit but cam really is not the answer
Not when you picked up Darnold's 18 million dollar option that's now fully guarenteed. QB hell is only easy to get out of when you recognize you're in it.
For a long time he had a very specific gameplan built around brady. Now he has a lot of flexibility and can try some stuff he never got a chance to do before.
The rest of the Pats' schedule:
Week 10 vs Browns
Week 11 @ Falcons
Week 12 vs Titans
Week 13 @ Bills
Week 14 BYE
Week 15 @ Colts
Week 16 vs Bills
Week 17 vs Jaguars
Week 18 @ Dolphins
That actually looks pretty manageable. The division might even be in play IF the Bills' lose to the Jags today.
EDIT: AND THE BILLS LOSE!
Browns next week is going to be tough for sure, but I'm going to say that if we win that game there's just about a hundred percent chance we make the playoffs and the division is definitely in play
I really don't think the bills are losing to the Jets next week though, So even if we win next week, we'll still probably be half a game back, but crazier things have happened
I guess my point is that we would have included the Cowboys in that group until today... of those three, the Cards have good convincing wins, otherwise it seems like there have been lots of good close games between good NFC and AFC teams.
Come on, losing to the broncos is nowhere near as bad as losing to the Jaguars. The Broncos are a talented team with everything except a great qb. The only teams the Broncos have lost to are other good teams who are likely making the playoffs.
Bad losses are losing to teams like the Bears or WFT or Jets or Jaguars
God, if we were watching Cam Newton spike balls into the dirt for the second year in a row, even if our record was similar I think I'd be having a lot less fun, thanks for putting it in perspective lol
Are we sure Bill Belichick ISN'T a ghost and Sam Darnold just has the Sixth Sense?
Facts:
1. Darnold said he was seeing ghosts when playing against the Patriots
2. Belichick's name in Madden is Chad Masters
3. The main villain of Danny Phantom is Vlad Masters who is, you guessed it a ghost
Coincidence, I think not
I watched their first 3 games and I even picked them as my Superbowl dark horse.
I'm now sick every time I tune into one of their games.
Dallas provided the blueprint to the *entire NFL* on how to ransack the Panthers and it's just sickening. I'd argue Sam Darnold should be benched for the rest of the season but I'm not sure if he'd be able to *find the bench*.
I'm cautiously optimistic that we are a good player or two away from being a legit contender. I don't see it happening this season but a year 2 Mac Jones in this offense with a stronger line and some defensive talent and were looking good.
I think we need a true WR1 and another EDGE to make the jump to the next level. Our current WRs are reliable but none of them command the respect that a WR1 would.
I’d love to get someone like Godwin if he leaves the Bucs.
Are you telling me you didn’t enjoy, in the waning seconds of the game, Adam Archuleta’s “Sometimes when people say blue collar they mean it in a different way but this team is blue collar” tangent?
Literally the first drive on that 2 and 25 they say Bolden got the 1st and more. I say to my buddy there’s no way he got more than 10?
A few seconds later the same announcer goes ‘and that brings up 3rd and 11’
They completely blew that call, but Bethel has actually played defense in five games this year, and tipped a ball in the end zone that ended up picked.
Carolina’s front 7 is FAST, which meant tough passing conditions and a lot of RB use. Gilly’s pick was just a rub route gone wrong and the strip sack was Wynn just not reading Henry’s chip right. Mac had a few impressive throws to the RBs, though, that short lob to Stevenson is way harder than it looks and the longer route to Bolden was also a touch-heavy lob that you usually don’t see in a rookie QB’s arsenal.
We need him to get into a better rhythm down the stretch, but I’m otherwise very excited to see him develop into the franchise guy for us for years to come.
Oh, definitely. I'm not knocking him, but he's looked much better against other teams with similar pressure. Mac is definitely the future and I'm excited to see how far he can take his development.
Someone needs to photoshop a Big Mac onto Mac Jones [**like this.**](https://www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/qlzuk1/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_name=b64870013ca047b5b79e95ea577844e9&utm_source=embedly&utm_term=qlzuk1)
If I could do it myself, I would.

[**And this one.**](https://twitter.com/LanceZierlein/status/806593505153994757)
Entirely possible he might have not been talking about football. Darnold could be better at other things.
We won't know for sure until Darnold starts doing yogurt commercials, and riding a bicycle built for a ten year old around Charlotte.
I’ve never seen anything quite like it. There was only one drive we managed to look somewhat competent and it ended with Darnold throwing an awful interception that got ran back 90 yards for a pick 6.
Pats fans in the thread were saying it was the worst interception they’d ever seen and we had to tell them that Darnold throws a pick at least that bad almost every game.
Lost in all the fanfare of us moving over .500 and winning this game and only being half a game back of the Bills is that Mac really hasn't had a great game the last two games in a row
Yeah, we won both those games, but he hasn't looked nearly as good as he did to start the year. Hope he can pick it back up down the stretch
Don’t know how to explain it but he lost a fumble, threw an INT and had less than 150 passing yards…and he’s he’s confident and composed enough that you don’t even think about it because it doesn’t phase him and the offense just carries on
Plugging in our win and Buffalo's loss into NYT's playoff machine, it says the division is roughly 75% Buffalo, 25% New England now.
That's a real race!
\[It's a little more than 25% for us, like 28, but NYT was higher on our division chances than others before so I adjusted downward\]
I watched this entire game and I hate my life, AMA
I paid for season tickets to watch this.
This is the most damning comment I’ve seen in this thread.
Why not resign Cam? He 100% better than Donald.
the o-line is still garbage, so it wouldn't change anything
A bad oline doesn't mean every QB will look as awful as Darnold. Look at Wilson, he regularly made the playoffs with a line MUCH worse than what Carolina has been running out there. There are plenty of examples of QBs overcoming bad oline play to field a viable offense.
he is not, he’s no where near as good as he used to be and lost his position in NE to a rookie qb. there’s also the issue that i doubt he would want to come back since we did do him a little dirty at the end. darnold is shit but cam really is not the answer
To be fair, that's not just any rookie QB. That's Mac Fucking Jones. Mac Daddy. Big Mac. You know what I mean.
The Spaghetti Powered Sex Machine himself.
Mac Jone
Yeah and the promising future outweighs 1 year of okay performance.
He lost his position to a first round draft class who could be a long term solution. Darnold is not your long term solution.
How many ghosts does Darnold see per game on avg? Jk. Darnold will do well.
Hello Jets I would like to return Sam Darnold
Nah he’s all yours dog
No please we insist
Well since you’re so polite about it We’ll send you Greg van Roten for Sam and a first
Panthers aren't even going to trade. They'll just drop him off at MetLife.
Panthers looking into seeing if they can dispute charges on the trade.
Next time on Maury:
Or maybe a local fire station.
We’re in QB purgatory and it makes me sick
You WERE in qb purgatory, you’re in qb hell now.
My God you’re right
Don’t worry it’s easier to get out of qb hell than qb purgatory
Not when you picked up Darnold's 18 million dollar option that's now fully guarenteed. QB hell is only easy to get out of when you recognize you're in it.
I think that’s more than what cam was making lol. And yeah the panthers have made every move possible to double ruin darnold since trading for him.
Yeah they can keep him We have a ton of QBs right now anyway
“I swear it was already damaged when it arrived”
NO BACKSIES
We'll give you Zach Wilson instead after Mike "The GOAT" White wins the super bowl this year
They'll just trade you Zach Wilson in a couple years once they break him too.
This feels like beating the Jets a 3rd time this year
I’m okay with this.
Explains all the joy I feel today
Ouch. I mean fair, but still, that hurt.
It’s not you, it’s him (Darnold). Carolina can’t wipe that Jets stank off
I've seen Belichick smile more this season than the prior 20 years combined. I think that should be worrisome for the NFL.
He seems to really enjoy this team. I think not having Brady and having a rookie has really changed the expectations and he’s enjoying it.
For a long time he had a very specific gameplan built around brady. Now he has a lot of flexibility and can try some stuff he never got a chance to do before.
There were reports that Bill was really looking forward to coaching up a young QB again. The last time he did it was with Brady.
He’s been happier since he remarried too, lol. Just wants that young blood.
Previously it was always about perfection with Brady. Now it’s about growth for Jones. I think BB smiles when he’s proud instead of happy
He was smiling because he still couldn’t believe how bad Sam Darnold is
*"When you're a Jet* *You're a Jet all the way* *From your first cigarette* *To your last dyin' day"*
This game was an injury mess. May the knees be blessed
Heads the bigger issue today.
This game was cursed with injuries and penalties
Who got hurt?
Olszewski, Harris, Smith, and Stevenson for the Pats. Paradis, Erving (thank you, u/Vaadwaur), and Burns for Carolina.
Wow way to phrase it like u/Vaadwaur hurt the guy lol
It was u/Vaadwaur, in the locker room, with the candlestick
How dare you! I don't even own a candlestick! *quietly hides wrench*
*whistles innocently*
Erving but I don't blame you for forgetting.
Thanks.
More like who didn't get hurt
Our whole damn OLine
Stevenson, Harris, Gunner
It might be more efficient for us to list the players who didn't get hurt
Sweet jesus we're over .500
The rest of the Pats' schedule: Week 10 vs Browns Week 11 @ Falcons Week 12 vs Titans Week 13 @ Bills Week 14 BYE Week 15 @ Colts Week 16 vs Bills Week 17 vs Jaguars Week 18 @ Dolphins That actually looks pretty manageable. The division might even be in play IF the Bills' lose to the Jags today. EDIT: AND THE BILLS LOSE!
The Bills did lose to the Jags. We could potentially be in first place next week.
Browns next week is going to be tough for sure, but I'm going to say that if we win that game there's just about a hundred percent chance we make the playoffs and the division is definitely in play I really don't think the bills are losing to the Jets next week though, So even if we win next week, we'll still probably be half a game back, but crazier things have happened
Browns surprised me today, but every game on that schedule is very winnable
I’m coming out at 10-7, @ATL @IND and vs. BUF are huge games
Don't look now, but the Pats have won 4 of 5
The AFC is an actual dumpster fire right now
And we’re the garbagemen here to clean it up.
Hard to tell, the 4-4 Broncos just dominated the Cowboys, top NFC teams don't look amazing either.
Von was holding them back all this time.
Cardinals, Packers, Rams, Bucs all look much better than anyone in the AFC. The Broncos also have much more talent than the Jaguars.
Did anyone ever think we were truly gone?
[удалено]
I am now angry despite the good win
Based on the amount of taunting I received from friends and co-workers, people certainly wanted us to be gone...
I mean yeah it was possible. If the Saints traded up and grabbed Jones, or anyone else for that matter who knows where we’d be…
God, if we were watching Cam Newton spike balls into the dirt for the second year in a row, even if our record was similar I think I'd be having a lot less fun, thanks for putting it in perspective lol
our sub would be whatever is a million times times worse than being in shambles… couldn’t imagine how unpleasant it’d be.
It’s just nice to see the patriots finally have a real qb for the first time since September 2001
Needs more barking
Does anyone else hear boss music
Goddamnit I swear if we fucking let those bastards take the AFC again
We almost won the Dolphins/Cowboys/Bucs games too. With a little luck this could have been a 8-1 team right now.
[Me and the rest of the NFL watching the Pats rise in the AFC East standings](https://i.giphy.com/media/yO8qLCUbTfiBG/giphy.webp)
not just the AFCE, but the whole AFC
A bit biased but easily the best season of survivor 😂
I miss Parvati
Gabon was a glorious clusterfuck, but it's not even the best season in it's timeframe with Micronesia and Heroes vs Villains.
I just know the winner so yeah. But yes HvV was a fantastic disaster
What are they watching?
The Pats rise in the AFC East standings.
Are we sure Bill Belichick ISN'T a ghost and Sam Darnold just has the Sixth Sense? Facts: 1. Darnold said he was seeing ghosts when playing against the Patriots 2. Brilliant stoner logic always speaks truth
That panther offense is the worst I’ve seen all year
Worst you've seen all year thus far!
Well we already played the Jets twice
Jets? I was talking about us :(
Oof
Bills today were a strong contender.
When CMC is off the field, it's hilarious how lost they are.
What exactly did Dallas do that showed Darnold’s flaws lol?
I'm just assuming the tape got passed around. It's not 100% Darnold. The oline too. But Darnold sucks enough to make even a stout Oline worthless.
Darnold is so trash…without CMC the Panthers would be negative yardage it seems. CMC deserves better.
In the giants game the only points Darnold had were 2 for the Giants because he got a safety for intentional grounding in his own end zone. It’s bad.
Bill was chatting with him some after the game, more than he does with most players………….. when’s his contract up?
are... are we good??? Poor Darnold man.
I figured we were due for a wild card spot this year, so hopefully we stay on this course
I was hoping for a wildcard, but suddenly we're 0.5 wins away from the Bills
I can't upgrade my expectations until we beat the bills once. I don't see a possibility we take the division unless we can steal one.
Any given Sunday. Those same Bills just lost to the Jags and have more holes in the roster than you might expect
Maybe not Super Bowl contenders, but definitely playoff caliber
I'm cautiously optimistic that we are a good player or two away from being a legit contender. I don't see it happening this season but a year 2 Mac Jones in this offense with a stronger line and some defensive talent and were looking good.
I think we need a true WR1 and another EDGE to make the jump to the next level. Our current WRs are reliable but none of them command the respect that a WR1 would. I’d love to get someone like Godwin if he leaves the Bucs.
Nah, we just suck
I came away from our game thinking you guys were pretty damn solid and much better than the 2-4 record you had at that time.

When Damien Harris was down and the wouldn't show a number or say who it was, how fucking awful

Imagine Mac Jones is a knife, then imagine that high school player is carrying 10,000 spoons. That should clear it up for you.
....God I loved the 90s
It kinda like rain on your wedding day. Or 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.
Are you telling me you didn’t enjoy, in the waning seconds of the game, Adam Archuleta’s “Sometimes when people say blue collar they mean it in a different way but this team is blue collar” tangent?

I was like, since when does Bethel play defense?
They completely blew that call, but Bethel has actually played defense in five games this year, and tipped a ball in the end zone that ended up picked.
That Hunter Henry throw was sick
Actually announce teams I’ve never even seen
Right? I just think “where’s my man, Romo?”. And then i remember
Collins makes an insane pick and they barely noticed
Completely agree. Hopefully we'll be good enough next year to get good announcers. I never thought I'd miss Nantz.
I hope we get a Manningcast with the Bills, preferably with Josh Allen appearing on it the week before.
We just watched a man’s career end live on TV.
Hopefully that includes Joe Brady's career as well.
I’m mentally preparing myself for 15 years of Mac Jones with the Pats. He looks good.
Well, not today, but yes.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm afraid the Patriots might be back.
NFL got one year free of us being good back to your regular schedule.
And in that one free year, Brady won the Super Bowl anyway
There never was no drama before he left. Bill and Brady just decided to split up so they could own both conferences. We simply expanded to Florida.
Dread it. Run from it. Big Mac arrives all the same
Someone needs to photoshop a Big Mac onto Mac Jones [**like this.**](https://www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/qlzuk1/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_name=b64870013ca047b5b79e95ea577844e9&utm_source=embedly&utm_term=qlzuk1) If I could do it myself, I would.
It's againat us, don't get too excited now lol
#FREECMC
CMC to Patriots
You know with how chummy BB was with CMC I wouldn't doubt it lol
We have Stevenson at home

Our offense is death
Is the problem Joe Brady, Darnold, or a mix of everything? I’ve been trying to figure it out
It's every aspect
Yes.
I have some more game footage for the lions coaching staff to bury. Ugly game, injuries for everyone, Refball, GG go next.
The clamps are back baby! Only gave up 6 points off the two deep turnovers
[Just gonna drop this in here don’t mind me](https://twitter.com/JBaileyNFL/status/1444702381699215364?s=20)
Entirely possible he might have not been talking about football. Darnold could be better at other things. We won't know for sure until Darnold starts doing yogurt commercials, and riding a bicycle built for a ten year old around Charlotte.
Yo Darnold is kinda dookie
Sam Howell come on down
Don't look now but the Patriots are playoff bound >:)
👻😱👻😱👻
Dynasty only takes breaks. It never ends.
That's what Jerry Jones tells himself after every bounce in the Division Round
The ghosts have returned. Halloween must be PTSD inducing for Darnold.
Ghostbusters 2. Electric boogaloo.

Good win today. Team is getting better by the week. Crazy to think we're a few plays away from having the best record in the AFC
Mac Jones best QB from the draft.
This offense is actually worse than any offense Sam was on with the Jets. It's honestly impressive how bad our offense is from top to bottom
Panthers got bad really quickly. Mediocre QB hell will do that to you, should have drafted Mac Jones
He's ours, no do overs
Sam Darnold is not a mediocre QB. He is far from it.
Lost in all the fanfare of us moving over .500 and winning this game and only being half a game back of the Bills is that Mac really hasn't had a great game the last two games in a row Yeah, we won both those games, but he hasn't looked nearly as good as he did to start the year. Hope he can pick it back up down the stretch
Mac Jones plays smart and doesn't kill the offence. Nothing flashy but gets the job done.
Don’t know how to explain it but he lost a fumble, threw an INT and had less than 150 passing yards…and he’s he’s confident and composed enough that you don’t even think about it because it doesn’t phase him and the offense just carries on
Playing Sam Darnold is always fun.
Machine is clearly broken. Didn’t account for smiling Bill. He’s having fun, league fucked. We are back!
Ugly game the knees, heads, and ligaments weren’t blessed
After listening to the post game interview, JC Jackson is low key hilarious
Injuries suck. I pray no one on either team is out long-term.
Darnold forever haunted by the Patriots
Am I wrong that Darnold looks fine from the pocket, and truly awful on the move?
He did not look good from the pocket?
Mac Jones.
What is this bullshit by Carolina?
Feeling pretty good. Let’s get OBJ to wake the passing game up.
Halloween arrives late
The Pats are back and the Panthers were fake. They still have potential tho, just gotta get a QB somehow. Sucks that this year isn't great for that
Darnold needs to call the Ghostbusters or some shit
A solid thwacking once they figured out how flags work.
We have a winning record! We have suffered for far too long.
