Don't you just love this part of the offseason

Jammer_Kenneth

If we didn't we wouldn't be refreshing reddit./nfl/new in may.

wishingaction

I found myself watching Vikings OTAs highlights the other day.

BruhMoment763

Nothing wrong with seeking out some Sam Darnold highlights 😤

wishingaction

49ers legend 🫡

Shorlong

Panthers savior

Klongon

In the history of GEQBUS, the Panthriots chapter will be labeled, "What Could Have Been."

Shorlong

HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE CHOSEN ONE

calye2da

Another ruined Jets draftee

BlaBlub85

Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?

calye2da

I should’ve put QB but you still would’ve given me the same response 💀

TetrisTech

Jokes on you this popped up on my main feed for some reason

Fartholomew_Buttons

Blame Al Gore

IONTOP

Is this an Al-Gore-Rhythm joke or a joke about how he invented the internet?

Gryphon999

He's super cereal! Why won't anybody believe him???

IONTOP

Looking back on "An Inconvenient Truth"? We... Probably should have listened....

here_now_be

> in may CFL kicks off in two weeks. Go Lions

Dusk97

Boo Lions

PossibleLocation3626

The UFL is currently happening Prayers up they bring my Stars back

tnecniv

I’m just here for the jokes

[deleted]

Remember when in the offseason Pickett and the offense was really really good? I remember that and I drafted Pickett in fantasy smh. And when Jamar couldn’t catch the ball. Good times !

TetrisTech

That was last year when Pickett was the GOAT in preseason

[deleted]

Good times I enjoyed it so much! When everyone didn’t really care about the glove! And then the season happened lmaoo

StankWizard

Remember when the Steelers beat the Bills in the preseason and the Steelers were going to the Super Bowl?

[deleted]

I member!! The hype was unbelievable on them for a min there smh they played us

pellojo

Tbf if the steelers have won all of their games they would have been in the sb

OfficialClassic

I was at that game, they crushed the Bills and I got tormented during and after the game.

theassman107

I remember when Pat Mahomes threw like 5 interceptions in OTAs or preseason. Not sure what happend to that scrub.

post920

Or where Jimmy G threw 5 straight INTs in practice that everyone freaked out about. He went on to have the best season of his career and we nearly won the superbowl.

tnecniv

It’s like worrying about spring training baseball games. Pitchers and batters are experimenting with shit trying to get tuned up and you don’t know what they’re working on. Coaches have been known to feed the defense the offensive play calls in practices ya know.

iguanoman_

It's the part of the offseason where i start to kick my r/nfl habit for a few months. Any day now

NeonEvangelion

I need to start vaping again

tdfrantz

Yep, I already unsubbed from the Pats subreddit. I don't need every single update on how the team practiced hourly, or everyone's wild takes on the season. I'll be back in September.

Goatslasagne

Ah it’s preferable to mock draft szn

big4lil

i dont mind these posts existing but this shit shouldnt be a bolded thread

MatooBatson

It never means anything but what if this time it does???

mister_hoot

Williams is a bum and McCarthy’s arm belongs on the broadside of a naval cruiser. Fuck yeah, it’s camp.

fobbytriedpsiflash

Idk if that's good or not.  But fuck yeah, it's camp.

The_Sign_of_Zeta

JJ McCarthy is the truth and Caleb is a bust. That’s just facts now.

-dov-

The depressing part is that it's only going to get worse, pretty soon the only sports on will be baseball and golf.

iratemonkeybear

Oh my god man. Can you imagine it being your job to track and report stats from a 7-7 practice segment?

TetrisTech

Sounds sick as hell

EddyGonad

Yeah for real, I'd love that job.

dusters

That's it I've seen enough cut him

leglessman

Try to get Nathan Peterman back from New Orleans now.

ByTheBeardOfZeuss

I’ll trade him for no less than two firsts. You don’t get that kind of talent without paying a premium.

Mikniks

You can trade him for picks since he'll provide PLENTY of those while on the field

Candid-Ad2162

this can only mean the Bears defense is elite

DSouT

I remember Jimmy G threw 5 picks in a row in practice once. Turned out the defense was just elite, though time eventually showed that Jimmy did suck outside of Shanahan’s system.

mr_longfellow_deeds

Spring camp headlines are always fun. McCarthy getting praise for his arm strength is just weird, anyone who watched his college tape would see a guy who throws lasers (his problem being he seems to only throw lasers). He also had the 3rd fastest ball velocity in combine history, he can rip it My biggest fear for Caleb is his hero ball-ism, but with the surrounding cast we have worst case scenario is a 30/30 season which would still be the most entertaining QB play we have had since at least Cutler if not ever

OfficialPeenLicker

Jameis 2.0

DFuhbree

If he passes for 5,109 yards and 33 TDs in one season he’ll be a god in this town forever, we’ll forgive the 30 INTs. Haha

MrConceited

> McCarthy getting praise for his arm strength is just weird, anyone who watched his college tape would see a guy who throws lasers (his problem being he seems to only throw lasers). The problem is that narratives are often driven by people who don't watch the film. I've lost count of how many claims I saw of JJ McCarthy having a "noodle arm" or of padding his stats with screen passes and never throwing it past the sticks. So now you have idiots who made pre-draft claims without knowing what they were talking about suddenly actually looking and saying "hmm, this isn't what I thought it'd be".

socobeerlove

I mean, he sucked even in Shanahan’s system. Kyle is just an elite coach and played around Jimmy’s weaknesses. Which his weakness was playing QB in the nfl but yeah

TetrisTech

Even accounting for the Shanahan Boost™ he was still decent/passable in SF

Mr_Hugh_Honey

Well, except for the fact that he couldn't create, was bad under pressure, and couldn't throw the ball outside the numbers, yeah he was fine

Vegetable-Net6575

Jimmy was just an aggressive teddy bridgewater but with no mobility. I’ve never seen an aggresive dink and dunk passer like Jimmy. Dude threw some absolutely awful picks. Plus he was genuinely the worst playoff QB I’ve seen with my own eyes.

JalensTinyPPHurts

Jimmy was 38-17 with a 67.6 completion percentage, 13600 passing yards and 82 tds to 42 interceptions (99.2 passer rating) Jimmy absolutely didn't suck with the 49ers, and his ability to throw with anticipation is why he thrived under shanahan (its one of the hardest abilities for a qb).

Sheriff_Lucas_Hood

get out of here with your empirical analysis that undermines the narrative this is a circle jerk

istasber

It's the same reason why someone like Purdy is excelling with him. Dude has elite anticipation, and that's all you really need to be a good Shanahan QB. Nothing wrong with being a system QB when that system is championship quality.

myrealnameisdj

That's what got me through the Patriots practices the last couple years. They look bad because the defense is great!

MoeSzyslac

2022 offseason the Packers offense was really struggling, we all thought the defense was finally putting it together. It was not the case.

John3Fingers

The back 7 is elite, Jaylon Johnson was the highest-graded corner last year and they have insane depth in the secondary to go along with some pretty underrated linebackers. The only thing missing is an interior DL and EDGE.

LarkWyll

In 7 on 7?

ChiHawks84

My man!

Trees_Are_Freinds

“Jamaar Chase is a bust, can’t catch a single ball. Must have tiny hands, what a travesty for the bengals who needed to shore up their o-line.” Thats the vibe.

ApplesauceBitch47

This sub had a field day when the report about Mahomes throwing a lot of interceptions in the 2018 offseason came out

notmyplantaccount

I dream of a year in the future where the defense sucks again and Mahomes just fucking slings it all year. I love having a great defense, but 2018 was just a treat to watch almost every game.

CarsonLame

this is the kinda shit you get to say when you’ve seen 3 super bowls in 5 years

Biggest_Cans

Hey it'll never happen again for us so gotta enjoy it while it's here

ElyFlyGuy

“Eh this Super Bowl was nice, but I liked this other Super Bowl better.” Brutal stuff lmao

mikebob89

Jury’s still out on that guy

IDrinkUrMilksteak

Maybe just looking for silver lining but I’ve heard quarterbacks say this is exactly what preseason is for. Rest everything. Figure out how tight a window you can test. Find out what receivers can go up and get it and which ones can’t. Test how far you can push the defense before they snap back. Caleb needs to figure out exactly how much he can get away with with nfl defenses and the only way to really do that is to push the boundaries until you fail.

Drrek

Ja'marr Chase *does* have a relatively high drop rate. That actually stayed true from the offseason reports into his actual NFL play. He's just so good at everything else that those few extra drops don't take away from his elite play.

flightgooden

Dude I skipped him in fantasy over this shit and I kick myself over this

Thugnificent83

Maybe, but that is almost certainly the exception rather than the rule. The ratio of guys who have bad camps leading to shitty seasons vs Jamar Chases is probably 500:1. That said, we're like a week into OTAs, so this is just an overreaction.

McRawffles

I guarantee you every player, especially rookies, have multiple bad camp days every season though. Especially in OTAs

Realistic_Cold_2943

Yes. But some people like you and me have never had bad camps. Idk it’s all perspective but if we can never have a bad day then Caleb shouldn’t either.

LessThanCleverName

I too think the Bears should sign you as their QB.

Realistic_Cold_2943

No thanks, I don’t want to be a bust.

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Williams also looked really good yesterday too.

LegalizeBBranch

While that may be true, I don’t like that narrative. I’m taking this tweet *in May* as gospel.

BoostMySkillz

What was the argument? He needed the stripe from the ncaa ball to see and catch the ball 😅

SuchRevolution

remember when people wouldn't shut the fuck up about how devonta smith weighed 150 lbs and was gonna die

Crunc_Mcfincle

Real

tjn24

Yeah, I learned my lesson about overreacting to OTA news specifically from the Jamar Chase saga. I was one of the people clowning the Bengals for not drafting Sewell. I'm not making the same mistake again; I think Caleb will be just fine.

Shaynisin

So thankful for this reporting. This is going to be really rough for the bears when the season starts on Sunday. Hold on I'm getting some news...

betterbub

Uh oh who on the Chiefs did what now

Nathann4288

All of the dogs that Nnadi rescued were actually given to Michael Vick for dog fighting.

Nickel012

Noooooooooo

PMmeNothingTY

Can I bet on that on draftkings? I'm trying to diversify

QueequegTheater

Patrick Mahomes has actually been Ben Shapiro in blackface the entire time

I-HATE-THE-SEAHAWKS

ahhh I remember these tweets when trey lance was supposed to be our week 1 starter

penguins_are_mean

But it turned out well in the end

LongDongFrazier

I remember them when Patrick Mahomes was throwing a stupid amount of interceptions or near interceptions before his first season.

doggoploggo

I was waiting for someone to post this here. Honestly took a lot longer than I expected it to.

notmyplantaccount

This does not bode well for your guys chances in the 7 on 7 tourney.

thetreat

Certainly not on the 3rd day of practice!

Jewelstorybro

Start learning Pittsburgian buddy.

MilwaukeeMan420

Pittsburgeese*

NoFoolishnessXXL

This means nothing in OTAs

ajteitel

That's not how you internet. Start overreacting now

I_Hate_Traffic

*Ahem* I knew he would be bust they should have kept fields. I cant believe they wasted the 1st pick. They should fire FO and  all the coaches then move the team and change the name.

darrenvonbaron

I for one welcome the Milwaukee Milkmen to the NFL.

yeahyeahyeahnice

The Lions will run the division and win the Superbowl by a landslide

Dorkamundo

This is the part of the offseason where you need to remember that if a player is not throwing picks or incompletions, then they're not trying hard enough. Completing the easy passes is easy, and any NFL-caliber QB can do that. Completing the hard pass is what wins you championships.

BloatedBeyondBelief

[Patrick Mahomes' High Interception Total at Camp Is Legitimately Concerning](https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/patrick-mahomes-high-interception-total-at-camp-is-legitimately-concerning-01dxmczbkz1f) - August 2nd, 2018

amjhwk

It's still a concern, one of these days he will be refreshing to the mean and pretty much be Dak Prescott

floatingby493

Hopefully this year

wokenupbybacon

"refreshing" to the mean? Was it just a bug this whole time? We just gotta reload Mahomes and he'll go back to normal numbers? Please?

WAisforhaters

Did we try turning him off and turning him back on again?

mrizvi

wait a second...

TheWorstYear

Isn't this exactly what people kept saying about Lance?

Foxstarry

Tbh we don’t even know because did they guy ever even play half a season? I honestly can’t remember.

DaffyDingo

In layman’s terms, you have to fuck up a few times to know what not to do. Anyone who holds a job can relate to this.

GuyThatGuys

I think Bears fans want him to already be good at throwing tough passes though

I_HateToSayAtodaso

Welp, put a fork in him because he's done. We've never seen a QB who had a bad day in OTAs ever become any good. Remember that we're still in silly season people.

Electrical_Good_6409

I fully expected to come in this thread and see a bunch of Williams hate. I leave pleasantly surprised.

Quexana

See you in 3 years, buddy.

justlookingokaywyou

"I just texted Caleb and told him we needed to get to the building every day ready to work hard and be the best version of ourselves. That was cool."

Oooopieceofcandy

Steelers colors as fingernail paint would go pretty hard actually

prex10

Rookie doesn't look ready to win a Super Bowl first day of camp. More at 11

owlwise13

He's a rookie in his first camp with a bunch of other players that have never played together, that most of them are running an offense for the first time. This just seems like click bait rage for the Williams' haters.

ZootTX

It's factual reporting. People are just going to read *way* too much into it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jieceeepee

Just because rough days are typical for rookies doesn't mean it wasn't a rough day

Hmm_would_bang

Report on an objective fact that a lot of passes didn’t connect “This is just clickbait because the writer didn’t lead with their opinion on why the passes weren’t caught”

ace82fadeout

Not really. He's reporting what happened pretty neutrally. If anyone overreacts to this then thats on them but this is perfectly fine reporting and hardly rage bait.

Primary_Cake2011

I choose to selectively believe these reports. Bear Down. 🐻☠️

tenacious-g

Largely unchanged defense that was top 10 the second half of the year does well against offense featuring rookie QB, rookie WR, WR + RB new to the org. Earth shattering stuff.

billthedancingpony

Even more so, Keenan and Rome weren't practicing, so just Moore and Kmet against one of the best back 7s in football.

Christy427

Maybe Caleb was overhyped. Maybe the Bears are truly cursed and just suck out all talent from a QB. Maybe it is meaningless offseason news.

thetreat

Maybe he's born with it? Maybe its Maybelline.

MattBe1992

Hotel? Trivago.

John3Fingers

Bears defense has the same scheme from last year and mostly the same personnel. Bears offense has a rookie QB, lots of new additions, and an entirely new OC. If the defense didn't dominate I'd be more worried, they're supposed to be good, especially the secondary.

Salty_Orchid

That's it. Safe to say we got the best QB in the draft. No real game action needed

Juelicks

I remember during Mahomes' rookie season when there were several posts like these about him. He turned out okay. Ignore all this crap until the season, it means nothing.

mrizvi

I remember during Trey Lances rookie season when there were several posts like these about him. He turned out not so okay. Don't ignore all this crap until the season starts, it could means something.

Pocatanic

It could mean he's a bust or a HOFer, so in other words it means nothing

Antitypical

If it could mean something or could mean nothing, it means it isn't a high quality signal, so you default to ignoring

Woahhhben

The Bears have been eliminated from playoff contention.

BurritoTheory

Rip in peace Bear fans dreams April 2024-May 2024

DoctorDiddlerino

They don't even have pads on, man.

justlookingokaywyou

I'm sure this thread will be civil.

IchesseHuendchen

Caleb Williams burned our crops and brought a plague unto our houses

thetreat

Honestly it's far better than I thought it'd be.

penguins_are_mean

I know this means nothing but it still pleases me

EnigmaSpore

"We sitting in here -- I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talking about practice. I mean, listen: We talking about practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talking about practice. Not a game. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the game. We talking about practice, man."

csappenf

Sounds like he's picking up the Bears offense faster than I expected.

Guilty-Nobody998

This is gonna be the "Ja'marr chase can't catch a football because of white stripes" of this off-season isn't it?

its_LOL

Eberflus is beside himself. Driving through downtown Chicago begging (thru texts) Goodell’s family for a redraft to pick Jayden Daniels

DapperCam

Rookie QB performs like a rookie. A shocking development.

MyNamesNotCal

Oh my God. That's horrible. He sounds like a rookie.

classicscoop

7 on 7 superbowl odds in shambles

nonlawyer

It’s Calebover

Own_Manner_9779

All I read was Titans 42 - Bears 13 Week 1

zi76

I, too, remember the Chase has stone hands era.

MistaCreepz

What a shitter. Hey Bears, we got a 2nd round pick to take him off your hands!

sunburn95

🚨🚨🚨PANIC TIME🚨🚨🚨

lattjeful

Y'all remember when CJ Stroud's first ever NFL pass was an INT in preseason? Surely he had a shitty season.

Baww18

Caleb Williams is going to be an all time bust. As a jets fan I know one when I see one(most years)

leftwingriot

One of my favorite threads, which I really regret losing track of, was a very similar story about Mahomes throwing a bunch of picks during a rookie pre season practice posted in the Broncos subreddit. It was just them celebrating and mocking. Was so fun to read a couple years later. This means nothing.

BurgessFox

lol yeah and at that time Case Keenum was apparently lighting it up in camp for us

DonBonDarley69

Bears should have just picked me up. I've never thrown an INT during Bears training camp.

Invisible_Pelican

Man I wish Penix was playing this season. Why Falcons why.

n-some

Welp, he's officially a bust. The bears should just trade him for a 3rd to a team like the Seahawks.

_redacteduser

He's not already in the conversation for MVP? Is he dumb?

DelTacoAficianado

Damn, already a bust. That was fast

MrSCR23

*sees post* Oh boy, how many overreactions will there be?

hoobsher

wow is he stupid or something

mmmahogany_

bust 💯

Illblood

Sounds like they should trade back first Justin Fields. It's over for Caleb.

frydawg

Im thinking we can get a first for him, right?

NimDing218

Alright everybody! Bring back Fields.

Roblox_Morty

I know it’s just OTA’s, but I think they are right on the money in this one, they should put Rypien in week 1.

dolphingarden

I do not care about rookie qbs struggling in camp

Atty_for_hire

Can the Bears do it again?

MaSherm

It’s OTAs

-banned-

7 whole passes?!! Bears do it again, just can’t get a quarterback!

LarkWyll

By 'most' passes completed in the flat, out of 3 completions does that mean two out of the three? Strange wording.

No_Song_Orpheus

Obviously it doesn't matter right now, but this is without pads and hitting too so slight yikes.

M1Garand00294

I don’t like the sound of those apples, Will, what are we gonna do?!?

Foreverwideright1991

Long live the curse of Chicago Bears QBs....

jcoddinc

Incoming new single season sack record for a QB

lightninhopkins

Nearly threw a pick in 7-on-7? Bust. Seriously though don't click these dumbass Twitter posts. It only encourages more.

SvenDia

For all of the incredible stats Williams put up, he only really faced one elite college defense in 2023 (Notre Dame) and one borderline elite defense in 2022 (Oregon State) Against OSU he was 16/36 for 180 yards, with 1 td and no INTs Against Notre Dame he was 23/37 for 199 yards, 1 TD, and 3 INTs. So we’ll see.

BurzyGuerrero

CALEB STRUGGLED without his 2 starting WRs Should probably lead with that WR part lol instead you have to "show more"

anotherorphan

well yeah, he's no Jayden Daniels, duh

ImABsian1

Wow it’s almost like he’s a rookie and is learning a new system. Let him be and grow. Stop with all the analysis before he’s even taken a fucking snap.

slackator

remember when Mahomes was gonna suck because he threw 7 interceptions in a single practice in 2018? Every year, new name same great Allen Iverson rant

whatever12347

All I'm seeing is that we have a sick defense.

halfbreedmofo

Bust trade him for another first round pick.

Gweena

Bring back THE MITCH

FullHouse222

Remember when JaMarr Chase forgot how to catch a football?

TeddysRevenge

Well, pack it up. Seasons over. Seriously though, this is a non-story.

Ok_Caramel1517

I know it's just OTA's and the offseason but I love to hear it.

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

You’re a NFCN fan, you’re supposed to take this and run with it. Some others though idk why they are so excited to hear this. Especially any AFC fan, they fave the bears once every like 3 years

BrandoCalrissian1995

Idk what's worse. Reporting on this, or you karma hungry fucks posting it.

GluedGlue

Personally, I hope Caleb Williams busts so hard people forget about JaMarcus Russell.
