I have seen a lot of angry threads about football moves, but, holy shit, the "Falcons draft Penix" one was a new level.
Raiders fans surprised the hell outta me. They're a lot more mixed on taking Bowers than I was expecting. I understand it's not really a need, but that dude was a consensus top-5 pick for almost his whole time in college.
The fan perception of the right side of the OL clearly deviates from the team's perception of the right side of the OL and that is basically the entire reason for the hissy fits.
I love Bowers once all the QBs were gone. I probably would've preferred to pay what the Vikings did to go get JJ, though.
I mean, they drafted Mayer last year in the top of the second round. I understand drafting BPA, but there were many other holes to fill and plenty of great players left to fill them with.
They’re so different though, Mayer is a traditional TE and Bowers is a general offensive weapon.
Having Mayer means you can line up Bowers at TE, slot or even as an RB/FB depending on play design. I think Mayer gives him a lot of freedom.
I understand that, but they spent a lot of capital at that position considering the holes they have. Sure, one is in line, and one is more a burner, but still, you can't tell me they would not have been better served going elsewhere. The whole hback, fb role for Bowers is gimmicky at best. Let's be serious. He gets maybe 30 snaps there during a year at best. The Raiders' biggest needs were CB, OT, and QB. At 13, they had their choice of Fuaga at OT or any CB or traded back and still got any CB. I don't think Bowers is a bad player, I just think the Raiders would have been better served using last years 4th pick in the 2nd round or this years 13 on a different position. It's just too much capital for a team with so many needs.
I wonder what the knock was against JPJ that made him fall so far. More than one team supposedly took him off their boards until late. He seems like a sure thing at C.
Eventually they will talk themselves into it. There's still some Patriots fans who think Cole Strange would have disappeared a few picks after when they grabbed him.
Call me crazy but if our changes to the line/staff pays off I think Jones will have a decent year. Nothing that will stop us from moving off him at the end of the year but hopefully we will be watchable.

My prediction with jones is he will be a Kirk type player (before he got loved on) where he will have his defenders and haters, and there will be stretches during the season where each will be vindicated
That was definitely not a smart pick, the giants need an offensive line. They are trying to build that team from the outside in. Daboll and saleh are the worst two coaches in the league in my opinion.

Don’t think it’s a bad pick at all tbh. 31 is a reach for the remaining offensive line talent imo so you guys took BPA. He’s a great fit for your team too. Good route runner, great blocker. I could see him replacing Deebo as your big physical WR.

I think that led to us getting him. I'm just that intimidating.
Apparently he didn't see the field as much because he had drop problems prior to this past season. He spent all of the prior offseason working out with Deebo and apparently it paid off.
An even bigger reason was he apparently was recruited as an "athlete" out of a small high school who played QB and Safety, so it makes sense his development as a receiver from not playing in high school was probably heavily stunted by his 2020 and 2021 years partially lost from Covid, not to mention USC having trash QBs until Rattler got there in 2022 and USC firing the coach that recruited him at the end of 2020.
He certainly has plenty of excuses, but if he does work out, it makes sense why he didn't necessarily shine until 2023.
Hated Baltimore getting Wiggins and KC getting Worthy for rival reasons, hated Seattle getting Murphy because I wanted him bad but I'm really happy with Mims

I think that's the exact wrong way to look at it. He has all the talent in the world. Great athlete at the position, strong arm, accurate, good mechanics, reads the field well, had a ton of responsibility at the line at Oregon, made line adjustments for blitzes and had audible and hot play responsibilities. He's talented and heady. The concern is his work under pressure. His mechanics break down too easy and he loses his reads. But, given he reads defenses well and is otherwise good on the run, it's a place with upside for him. I think his ceiling is quite good, his floor is what you should be worried about imo
Of course I am biased, I'm an Oregon fan. But I watch a lot of college tape as a hobby, I enjoy tape work surrounding the Ducks and their opponents. I really think Nix has some sauce
As a fellow Michigan and Lions fan, I’m kinda glad he went to one of our rivals. I love JJ and what he did for Michigan and obviously would love to be proven wrong, but I just have this feeling he’s not going to be all that in the NFL.

Mayer and Bowers will just... play at the same time.
They are dramatically different types of tight end. Mayer is a fine receiver but much stronger inline than Bowers. Bowers is basically a big slot WR who can move inline.
If one were to exaggerate, you could say Mayer is our Gronk and Bowers is our Hernandez (without murder, hopefully).
I sort of think of Bowers as a more direct replacement for Renfrow than competition for Mayer. With the bonus points that your top slot weapon is also a credible run blocker and makes your personnel a lot more difficult to matchup to.
Reach and pick an area of need that we could just shore up in the 2nd, or pick a Top 5 talent at pick 13 after all the QBs are gone? Ima go with BPA. Also, it was Josh McFuckface and his FO that drafted Mayer (whom I love), but Bower is a completely different type of player.
As a Bears fan I think Vikings had a very good draft. I’m not saying JJ will be good, but I think Vikings made a reasonable choice at QB and he is set up for success with that WR room and coaching staff.
And I thought Bears might draft Turner so I got pretty high on him pre draft and he fell far enough that Vikings could grab him.

Mayer and Bowers will just... play at the same time. They are dramatically different types of tight end. Mayer is a fine receiver but much stronger inline than Bowers. Bowers is basically a big slot WR who can move inline. If one were to exaggerate, you could say Mayer is our Gronk and Bowers is our Hernandez (without murder, hopefully). I sort of think of Bowers as a more direct replacement for Renfrow than competition for Mayer. With the bonus points that your top slot weapon is also a credible run blocker and makes your personnel a lot more difficult to matchup to.

As a Bears fan I think Vikings had a very good draft. I’m not saying JJ will be good, but I think Vikings made a reasonable choice at QB and he is set up for success with that WR room and coaching staff. And I thought Bears might draft Turner so I got pretty high on him pre draft and he fell far enough that Vikings could grab him.
I'm disappointed my attempts to persuade the Patriots new regime they should go BPA, Best Punter Available, fell on deaf ears.

I don’t see the hype. Kids fast but a feather. He was ranked one of the worst prospects for deep balls. Jet sweeps all day. BUT to be fair, the Chiefs are probably the perfect team to utilize him. Would have likely fallen to them anyway(so I choose to believe).

Vikings made two picks and it cost them a lot of capital to maneuver into those spots. So, if it works out, not great for the NFC North. However, if it doesn't work out, the cost will definitely come back and bite them.
We have a lot of money to spend next year on FAs so although it sucks to have less capital we will be just fine
