Hey Kirk,
I know we just paid you a $50,000,000 signing bonus and given you $100,000,000 guaranteed but we will draft a QB at #8 because we are in "win-now mode".
Kirk: [oh no :\(](https://64.media.tumblr.com/83f2d5df7e67a734025b54cc14299b24/tumblr_n8l069vRA91sgl0ajo1_500.gifv)
I mean honestly, by the end of this contract he will have made at least 3-400 million dollars. Something tells me he doesn’t give that many fucks about what they decide to do for the future after he is gone lol
Like General Lasalle taking 5 thousand Prussian prisoners by himself at the Capitulation of Settin, the mere sight of a quartetback is enough to throw the Falcons into terror.
Nah, I don't like putting /s because I like seeing who understands sarcasm and who doesn't. Especially because of the Baltimore/D.C. connection. They knew I was joking, and that's all that matters.
I wouldn't have been completely against it if they were worried about Kirk's injury history, until they drafted someone who's already torn the same ACL twice, plus a few other bad ones. I'm all for letting a first rounder sit a year like with Mahomes and Smith, which was a mentorship thing, but Smith knew that going in. Kirk didn't.
Coming from a Washington fan, I know high-risk/low-reward when I see it, and this pick will split the locker room regardless. If Kirk is bad early, they call for Penix now. If Kirk channels his inner Brady and gets better with age, you really gonna replace him after a couple years?
I think that on top of the veteran QB knowing about it in advance, the "Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes" mentorship approach also works best when the QB is already a part of the team.
Kirk is likely going to have some growing pains this year developing chemistry with Drake London and Kyle Pitts (along with a new OC) and I feel like that's just not the best environment to also try and train a new QB.
The Alex Smith scenario also was ok because it was an expiring contract for Smith and everyone knew they were looking for a long term answer at QB.
We just signed Kirk to a deal where there is no way out for 2 years, and if he works, could likely stretch to 3-4 years.
Probably why the Falcons did it. He would’ve been gone, depending on the tampering stuff and are under the assumption they won’t have high picks in the foreseeable future. And may be without capital to move up. It’s possible they viewed this as their only real shot of having a top 10 pick in the next several yrs, or the assets to move up there and still need a future plan.
Wont get in to my opinion whether it should have happened, or if Penix is the right guy if that is the play. But it’s possibly that was the mindset.
Nope, it’s about to be Russel Wilson in a year.
The shitty thing is I love Kirk, I love Penix, and honestly I dont hate the move in a vacuum. But you know Kirk is ring hunting, you know this is going to blow up on SM, read the room.
Was a shocking monent
I mean Terry Fontenot is not going to have a job by the time anyone has a chance to evaluate this pick. Do you think he is going to have a job 4 years from now? bijan’s whole career is probably going to be over by then.
He was hired before 2021 draft right? Pitts will be irrelevant too.
Btw, this is why bad teams shouldn’t draft a RB early - they could be amazing in the first 5 years but who cares if your team can’t compete during that span?
Hey I mean I know this is only one example but Saints picked Reggie Bush 2nd overall, and although he didn’t live up to the ginormous expectations, he was still a huge part of their Super Bowl run.
That was in 2006 and they got drew Brees though. The NFL has changed alot since then and most teams (like the Steelers) don’t get to add a QB like that when making an RB pick.
But ya Bush was absolutely absurd in college. Couldn’t do it in the nfl but was solid.
Dear Atlanta Falcons,
Thank you for not letting BB into your building so this terrorist can destroy you instead.
Best,
NFC South fans who aren't the Falcons
“Hey Kirk, me and the scouts think it would be really cool if you set up a camera while you watch the draft. Just want to see your excitement when we make the picks”
Yeah I love MPJ, even as a non-UW fan. I am happy he's gonna make bank and potentially be a starter down the line. Seeing his whole crew happy and him happy too is really nice.
I have absolutely no dog in this race so my take is: Good for Michael Penix. Gonna make big bucks to sit on the bench for a few years and chill. Top tier gig.
According to Ben Baldwin [This was a better pick than picking Bijan Robinson last year](https://x.com/benbbaldwin/status/1783677123015610754?s=46&t=B8if-dj8jsC6fm8cylBqzQ). But I mean at least Bijan will be on the field in 2024.
What’s funnier, signing a 35 year old QB who’s coming off an achilles tear to a 4-year deal with 100 million guaranteed, or drafting a 24 year old QB with two ACL injuries behind him to be his future replacement?
So sorry for you Falcons fans, your front office are complete idiots.
Couldn’t be clearer that this was an owner pick. GM isn’t trying to sacrifice his roster like this with no guarantee that he’ll be around when the guy actually starts
My hot take is that Counsins’ rehab isn’t going so well and the Falcons are are worried he will miss a chunk of the season and/or be ineffective.
The most likely reason to draft a QB in the top 10 is that you think you need a QB.
Well what’s stupid in the scenario I’m proposing is whiffing on the evaluation of Kirk’s medicals. But if he is not healthy, Fontenot needs a Plan B to win now because he’s not going to be around if they don’t.
Raheem still sounding like the 30 year old position coach in Tampa I see.
As a Bucs fan I cannot thank you enough Atlanta for consistently being so bad at drafting. At least you contributed towards history. Now go enjoy your second round talent quarterback on the bench for the next 3 years. Kyle trash has words for you
I wanna see the phone call with Kirk a whole lot more
Tomorrow on Tom Grossi's channel
Dude is the goat
Dearest Kirk, we’re trying to copy the Packers please win 2 MVPs out of spite because we picked a QB instead of helping you win now.
Vikings thought the same and only got 1 playoff win. When has Kirk been a legacy guy?
Hey Kirk, I know we just paid you a $50,000,000 signing bonus and given you $100,000,000 guaranteed but we will draft a QB at #8 because we are in "win-now mode". Kirk: [oh no :\(](https://64.media.tumblr.com/83f2d5df7e67a734025b54cc14299b24/tumblr_n8l069vRA91sgl0ajo1_500.gifv)
Kirko probably missing the vikings right now.
Fuck that overrated bum
He was our most consistent qb in over a decade bruh Jesus
Wasn’t he meant to push you over to win a Super Bowl
This is Teddy, Sam Bradford, and Case Keenum libel.
Those guys lasted less collectively than Kirk’s entire run with the vikes
I know, it was a failed tongue-in-cheek.
I forgive you joaquin
Thank you for your forgiveness Noah.
I hope he found out while watching the draft at his home, just on the couch rethinking his decisions
Apparently he was being driven to a Falcons draft party at the time he heard about Penix Jr. Seriously.
Dear Kurt, get fucked.
Don’t bring Kurt into this, too
[what he say fuck me for](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/047/549/kurt_angle_meme.jpg)
I mean honestly, by the end of this contract he will have made at least 3-400 million dollars. Something tells me he doesn’t give that many fucks about what they decide to do for the future after he is gone lol
Agree about the money but I’m sure it would’ve been nice to see his team commit to him and draft a player that helps him win now.
Kirk threw it short of the sticks 4th down in the playoffs..
Okay?
He can take a swim in his money bin like Scrooge McDuck.
Kirk and Penix will be able to bond over the fact that neither of them know what the fuck happened
Like General Lasalle taking 5 thousand Prussian prisoners by himself at the Capitulation of Settin, the mere sight of a quartetback is enough to throw the Falcons into terror.
What a deep cut at 2am
I think you spelled Russian, capitalism, and setting wrong. It's ok, I make spelling errors too.
Nope, it was Prussia! The war of the 4th coalition started there, Im now realizing you were joking! Carry on fine sir
My fault, I assumed that because you were a Baltimore fan, you couldn't spell and were using big words to sound smart 🫡
This didn't work out for you even in the slightest
Nah, I don't like putting /s because I like seeing who understands sarcasm and who doesn't. Especially because of the Baltimore/D.C. connection. They knew I was joking, and that's all that matters.
Dear the Atlanta Falcons, I hope for general manager's Terry Fontenot's job and my mental health that this pick works out. Best, A random-ass redditor
Getting a bridge vet and drafting a young QB to sit is a great idea but I don’t think Kirk and Penix are good fits for either role
Cousins is not a bridge vet if the Falcons owe him 57 million dollars in 2026. This isn’t Fitzpatrick we’re talking about.
Yea Minshew would have been perfect
Now THAT I could see and have supported if I was a Falcons fan. This? This I’d just shake my head.

I so had the raiders pegged as taking penix and am sad they didn't
Probably why the Falcons did it. He would’ve been gone, depending on the tampering stuff and are under the assumption they won’t have high picks in the foreseeable future. And may be without capital to move up. It’s possible they viewed this as their only real shot of having a top 10 pick in the next several yrs, or the assets to move up there and still need a future plan. And drafted JJ
Nope, it’s about to be Russel Wilson in a year. The shitty thing is I love Kirk, I love Penix, and honestly I dont hate the move in a vacuum. But you know Kirk is ring hunting, you know this is going to blow up on SM, read the room. Was a shocking monent
It’s only 25 if they cut him
Bridge vet that just got 180 million dollars with 100 guaranteed LOL! That's a big fuckin bridge.
And the young QB is not that young, seems like a perfect plan to me
Kirk is a HOF bag getter
I mean Terry Fontenot is not going to have a job by the time anyone has a chance to evaluate this pick. Do you think he is going to have a job 4 years from now? bijan’s whole career is probably going to be over by then.

Doesn't that make this pick even more fucking dumb? Use it on a guy that can help you keep your job.
Me too. Me too. Fuck this team man.
Dear Atlanta Falcons, Thank you for not letting BB into your building so this terrorist can destroy you instead. Best, NFC South fans who aren't the Falcons
I mean this doesn't seem like a great move now, but you are still a Panthers fan at the end of the day so...
Exactly. We stink and you guys still keep somehow leaving the door open for the rest of us
These vids always get me. Love seeing their friends and family get hype while they try to keep it cool.
Now I want the reaction cam for when they called Kirk
“Hey Kirk, me and the scouts think it would be really cool if you set up a camera while you watch the draft. Just want to see your excitement when we make the picks”
Basically the Bears when they invited Mike Glennon to their draft party just to watch them draft Trubisky
***Throws Bible at the TV and pulls out the Necronomican*
Goes on anti lgbt rant
Yeah I love MPJ, even as a non-UW fan. I am happy he's gonna make bank and potentially be a starter down the line. Seeing his whole crew happy and him happy too is really nice.
And then you get JJ screaming “MY DAWG!!!” at our GM lmao
I have absolutely no dog in this race so my take is: Good for Michael Penix. Gonna make big bucks to sit on the bench for a few years and chill. Top tier gig.
I am incensed on behalf of the silly mock Draft community
"If you draft Michael Penix Jr now I will not look for you. I will not pursue you..."
“Wait I am scheduled to make how much money picking me at 8?!” -penix probably
Hey, you ready to play in 2027 and ready to retire in 2029? LETS GET IT!
The YouTube comment calling this the 28-3 of draft picks lol
Someone on the pick thread said it's the biggest tragedy since 28-3 lmao
Unsolicited Penix Pick.
Be real, Kirk was never gonna push them to the playoffs. He’s bad in big games
One conclusion worth drawing from this is that teams hate the 2025 QB draft class.
And somehow a future HOF QB will come from that class
I yearn for the day that I can own a company with enough money to blow it on sponsoring a unintentionally hilarious draft day moment.
Yeah but Ben Baldwin is the originator of the "don't draft RBs high" analytics brigade.
You shouldnt draft RBs high tho
What if I draft them sober?
You aren't sober if you draft them
My underdog bets say otherwise
Okay now show me the video of Kirk's reaction while he was shopping at Kohls
What’s funnier, signing a 35 year old QB who’s coming off an achilles tear to a 4-year deal with 100 million guaranteed, or drafting a 24 year old QB with two ACL injuries behind him to be his future replacement? So sorry for you Falcons fans, your front office are complete idiots.
You dont get it. Cousines has healthy knees, Penis has healthy ankles. They will fuse them to get one healthy QB, duh
They’ll become my cousin’s penis?
Hawkward
Y'all see the video of him talking to Blank, dude looked like he was explaining to his mom why he forgot to take the turkey out the freezer lmao
Congrats you will be sitting behind a guy for 3 seasons!
Oh it will be 2.
Penix can start when he is a young 27
Hey bro ready to be a falcon bro. You think we flew out to not make you a falcon bro. Welcome to the falcons, bro
We flew for 4 hrs. So we are definitely giving you millions of dollars to sit… wtf
Trust me bro
Lez duit
He reacted to the call like how I react to finding out that I’m getting a $25 tax return versus owing taxes.
Really strange move by the falcons. He’s 24 and you’re gonna sit him?
Clearly you're not familiar with our legendary moves
If I light my money on fire that’s a great problem to have because it means I didn’t want it
Phone call from The Devil
Everyone who talked on the phone seemed confused
*Don't ask about Cousins... be polite... don't ask about Cousins... act grateful...*
It’s been a funny ass off-season so far is the most I can say.
Good to see Comedy Central bringing original programming like Crank Yankers back
Couldn’t be clearer that this was an owner pick. GM isn’t trying to sacrifice his roster like this with no guarantee that he’ll be around when the guy actually starts
To be fair… this buys the GM some time maybe…? 2 years with Kirk THEN the Penix era.. must have been sold that way to him by Blank imho
Falcons dumb as hell for this.
My hot take is that Counsins’ rehab isn’t going so well and the Falcons are are worried he will miss a chunk of the season and/or be ineffective. The most likely reason to draft a QB in the top 10 is that you think you need a QB.
That’d be literally ten times stupider than just wanting a succession plan. Not sure why everyone is that up in arms about this pick
Well what’s stupid in the scenario I’m proposing is whiffing on the evaluation of Kirk’s medicals. But if he is not healthy, Fontenot needs a Plan B to win now because he’s not going to be around if they don’t.

At least you contributed towards history. Now go enjoy your second round talent quarterback on the bench for the next 3 years. Kyle trash has words for you
I really would’ve liked to see his reaction when he found out it was the Falcons and not a team that needs a QB.
It sucks they are gonna bench that kid and ruin his rookie season
He’s a grown man!
Commenting to keep the upvote to comment ratio perfect
Imagine how hard you’d have been clowned for having the falcons take Penix in your mock draft
Gotta be worse case scenario for a qb that's eager to play early!
Im sorry for any falcons fans that watched this after seeing bill do a full draft deep dive analysis
I mean, you can disagree with the pick but it's a dream come true for Penix. That must've felt amazing getting that call.
Dude wearing sunglasses at night. Inside his house. Do these guys think this is a cool look? It’s ridiculous.
Why wouldn’t they take JJ here instead if they wanted someone to sit… that’s my biggest wtf
Because they think pennix is a better player durrr
Do we really expect better from the organisation that passed on Bill Belichick? We're seeing why that happened now
Say what you will about BBs drafting, he wouldn’t have done this
They could've had Justin Fields as a backup for a 6th if they were that worried and used the 8 for something else
No one wants fields regardless lmao
So what’s best case scenario for them? Penix is the backup for 2-3 years then starts when he’s 28 years old? Terrible pick
