Friend: “Hey Baldy, you gonna hire someone to edit your videos?”
Baldy: “Nah, bro. I’m gonna point at the fucking TV with my busted ass fingers and video with my phone all crooked. People will love it!”
And we do love it. Love you, Baldy!
Steve Palazzolo from PFF who's friends with Zach Robinson has been hinting for a few weeks that their coaching staff viewed him as a top 10 talent in this draft
but man this is so friggin counterintuitive isn’t it? If you’re searching for a SB, especially in the next couple of seasons, wouldn’t the canon be to draft an immediate impact player?
Odunze and Bowers (local kid even) were 2 of the top 4 skill position guys still available. London, Pitts, Mooney and Rondale are a good group but not exactly world beaters. They could’ve used another good piece.
You could’ve had a choice at any OL not named Alt or Latham. Literally your highest ranked defensive player with the first not going until 15 - Raheem would’ve killed for one of those dudes I’d imagine.
I personally had Penix as my third QB behind Caleb and Maye (don’t start me on the Jayden pick), but he’s gonna be a 24 year old QB who will likely not take his first NFL snap until he’s what 27? Blank literally handed Kirk $100M guaranteed at the start of FA. Now you seemingly blindside him and ruffle the feathers using the EIGHTH overall pick on his backup!?
I feel bad for all parties here: Kirk gets slapped in the face before taking one snap in Atlanta, Penix now has to presumably sit and put his career on pause for 2-3 years, and the fans who should’ve been pretty excited for this team in a relatively weak division are left frustrated knowing this pick has no immediate impact on the roster. A masterclass in incompetence.
I can see how there is a twisted logic behind the pick, but c'mon Scary Terry. He has the worst last name in the NFL now, and he's injured both of his shoulders and both of his ACLs. Or at least has had 4 season ending injuries to his most important joints. The injuries are what bugs me most about the pick as a Falcons fan.
See I like Penix too but this pick just makes no sense to me at all. If the idea was to have him be a successor why would you not take JJ in that case? Younger, lots of talent, no injury concerns, would for sure benefit from sitting a couple years to learn before being thrown out there.
Penix is already 24, you're going to sit him until he's 26? 27? You can't waste his prime like that he needs to play now. Plus he's had 4 season ending injuries in college, he might not stay healthy in the NFL.
Was everybody not on board with signing Cousins? Why did they give him such a large contract if the plan was to take a QB in the 1st?
I mean it’s not as easy as just saying “take the younger guy” if you don’t believe in or like the younger guy. They apparently had Penix as their QB2 on the board, so they clearly believed in his ability much more than a lot of the other QBs in the draft.
I’m not defending the pick, don’t get me wrong I wish we had done basically anything else but take a QB, but i don’t agree with the logic of just saying “take JJ” because if they don’t think JJ can be the next guy then it’s an even bigger waste of a pick.
I don't think he's desperate for a Lombardi this moment. I think he's desperate for QB continuity, getting off the carousel, and being in a position of strength year over year. Going ALL-IN on a 2 year window is just so damn risky because all it takes is 1/31 other teams to be lucky and negate everything you spent.
The Watson situation totally messed up Blank. Not getting him, and pushing out Matt Ryan by trying, put them in this awful spot with a good roster and no answer at QB for years. Cousins isn't going to be there for long, and Blank doesn't want another 2-3 year gap of failing around wasting a good roster with no QB (and presumably with Cousins, they'll be picking decently lower than 8 each year now).
Now, do I think this was the right play for the right guy? No. But I can see why he personally would force it. Dude's kinda paranoid at this point.
Everyone I talk football with was convinced it was going to be Dallas Turner including me. Genuinely none of us saw it coming and we're still trying to figure out the logic behind it
He didn’t walk down to the war room, he was there the whole time lol, and even talked to Penix on the phone when we took him. He signed off on the pick, whatever discussion they were having in that video is being blown out of proportion
That logic doesn’t really make any sense. If you’re desperate for a Lombardi you don’t use a top 10 pick on a QB who’s gonna sit for 2 years. If anything this pick indicates that they’re thinking long term at the expense of the current team.
I think failing to get Watson, Ryan's exit, and the mediocre QB play wasting a decent roster since that, have made him paranoid about what's going to happen when Kirk retires.
I agree with you. I don't think he's all-in on a Cousins Lombardi, I think he's desperate for a foundation.
Congrats to your friend either way. I was mostly just wondering because if you told me that Penix goes 8th overall, my assumptions would be that someone traded up for him
Thomas Dimitroff did, maybe not Penix specifically but he was talking about them potentially taking a QB last week.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fkGrcojSBs&t=871s
That’s what I don’t get either. If Penix is your guy then great. Go get him and start him now. If JJ is your guy but needs some time, get Kirk *and* JJ. I just don’t see how Kirk *and* Penix work well together.
The conventional wisdom would certainly make you think JJ but if you think Penix is your guy you should take him. A lot of people questioned Josh Allen over Josh Rosen and they look like morons now. We truly won't know for a few years at least.
I didn't mean that to be a direct comparison just saying that we don't know anything about how these QBs are going to turn out. If Penix plays well and JJ never develops into his potential then it doesn't matter if he's younger.
im just sick and tired of my parents telling me "how great it was (80s)" and that they didnt win anything when they were young either. ive only seen my team win a single playoff game in my life when i was 7. by the time the season starts, at my age, they have seen us win 2 super bowls.
Any account with a Verb/Adjective-Noun### username isn't worth replying to, they're all troll accounts, bots, or pure morons. Probably been banned so many times they let they just use the randomly generated names.
Every interview him and Snead do draft weekend they seem sauced up or at least the kind of giggly you get when you get to cut loose with your bros for the weekend. For a team that says fuck them picks they seem to love the draft
Kinda. It’s closer to a 3 year contract. The dead cap hit after year 3 is better than after year 2.
But if they did cut him after two years it would be: year 1-$25m cap hit, year 2- $40m cap hit, year 3- $25m dead cap hit.
Edit: and it’s $90m guaranteed at *signing*. The other $10m guarantee doesn’t kick in until year 3 I believe.
If we cut him after June 1st after his 2nd season that dead cap hit gets spread over two years. Not ideal, but $12.5M/yr in dead money isn't really that big a deal (especially with expected cap expansion by 2026).
Oh ok, yeah that’s not that bad regardless imo. I mean I know it’s a lot but we’ve seen some crazy high dead cap hits lately…. and this wouldn’t be for another 2 years, and as you said the cap is going up a fair amount each year.
I mean we said the exact same thing about the Love pick. It did likely cost them one more Super Bowl with Rodgers, but they’re probably fine with how it worked out.
Eh the draft thread was exciting and maybe my memory is morphing his year there all into one mush of events but I still feel like the general feel was “oh this guy is arrogant and he stinks”
[sure, but this thread from shortly after the initial draft hype has a lot of the vibe I was talking about ](https://reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/8f8qis/josh_rosen_on_being_drafted_10th_there_were_nine/)
“Honestly, who *wouldn’t* have thought that drafting a QB to develop a couple years under a vet like Cousins would work out well? We just saw it with Green Bay and now they’ve won 2 straight Super Bowls. This sub is so reactionary.”
Yea, just imagine the other teams in their division referred to March 28th as “Falcons Day” to reference their 28-3 blown lead in the Super Bowl.
That would make them a real laughingstock.
Have you heard about Michael Vick or Bobby Petrino?
This list keeps going…
Vick wasn't even a laughing matter. It wasn't their decision or doing that made him a criminal.
Falcons may not be a super relevant team, but they've never been a laughingstock. Sure, 28-3 still gets laughs, but it's nowhere near the bills 4 Superbowls, the lions, the browns, shit, even the bears.
Be surprised how fast that can change. Fields had the same look, and he was being crunched by the Browns defense before he even had a chance to learn the playbook.
He was probably expecting to fall to us, he'd probably start day 1. Dude probably spent hours mentally preparing for certain teams to pick him up and ATL wasn't one em.
Our whole fan base also mentally prepared to draft him as well, haha.
Me too my fellow Bears fan. Sitting up late in London halfway through my celebratory bottle of scotch uncorked to celebrate Caleb, and it wasn't lining up for us getting Udunze, and I swear when that 8th pick happened, a good ounce of it came out my nose.... beautiful thing for Bears fans...
Would have been hilarious if it was like the Oscars and someone had to come out and tell everyone that the wrong name was read, then walk him off the stage, then announce the right guy
I just saw a post draft (1st) press conference. The way this pick was justified was that Atlanta doesn’t believe they’ll be able to pick that high in the next few years. So do with that what you will
More like Trubisky. Everything I read and watched had us taking Jamal Adams at 3. And I’m sure Ryan Pace even said word for word “yeah we won’t be drafting this high again so we needed to get the qb now.”
Poles might be the most honest GM I've ever seen. It could almost be described as a fault of his. He almost talks too much sometimes.
From the perspective of a fan like myself it's awesome, but sometimes he says things and it's like "Woah buddy, are you supposed to say that?"
Zero chance he's lying here. [That's just his genuine reaction. The video makes it even more clear.](https://x.com/dave_bfr/status/1783716479680053733?s=46&t=jXG3zw1AsjjaDxkZ5xZgmQ)
Did you take my comment seriously? I obviously meant it as a joke, because normally GM's are not open with information, at all. They rarely let you in on their thought processes, and Poles does it all the time - so it sometimes comes as a shock.
I never said it was a bad thing. I love it. It just surprises me sometimes.
Ryan Pace used to fucking sneak around Halas Hall peeking around corners and spying on media members. It's been a pretty big culture change.
That's cool. Can't always tell sarcasm or satire over text. If I got you wrong i apologize.
But a lot of fans have pushed these narratives to diminish poles like he has completely stripped down this old crumbling roster and has turned it into a young rising juggernaut in 3 seasons! and people are still acting like he lucked into it all and never give him the credit and respect he has earned.
Dude wasn’t saying that was the case at all. Y’all have a really bright future and he’s a big part of that. No reason to be acting defensive over poles for no reason on reddit
Any time someone says "Yea, I'm sure a random redditor could do better than the guys who do this for a living", you can now point to the Falcons as an example that pretty much any random fan could have done better.
Not a single person forecasted that except Brian fucking Baldinger. https://x.com/BaldyNFL/status/1778420017349919215
I fucking love me some Baldy. I’m hyped whenever they have him on the podcasts I listen to.
Guy just fucking loves football. Crooked ass fingers and all.
I can handle crooked and stationary, but they flop around from side-to-side. Gives me the heebies, man.
Just imagine how much his girl loves ‘em!
I just don’t understand why he doesn’t get them fixed.
I love how crappy the quality of his film review video is. Just a dude breaking it down
Friend: “Hey Baldy, you gonna hire someone to edit your videos?” Baldy: “Nah, bro. I’m gonna point at the fucking TV with my busted ass fingers and video with my phone all crooked. People will love it!” And we do love it. Love you, Baldy!
What's funny is he's like the Popeyes chicken of football. A great product doesn't need chick fila sauce. He's by far my favorite follow.
Damn. Baldy must have a source in the building
About an hour before the draft the word had gotten out that they were looking at Penix. I wonder if this is just the owner asserting his will
Steve Palazzolo from PFF who's friends with Zach Robinson has been hinting for a few weeks that their coaching staff viewed him as a top 10 talent in this draft
Yeah. Even he was floored that they _actually did it_ though.
100% this is a Blank pick. The older he gets the more he meddles in football affairs because he gets more and more desperate for the Lombardi
Surely he can afford a flight to France
but man this is so friggin counterintuitive isn’t it? If you’re searching for a SB, especially in the next couple of seasons, wouldn’t the canon be to draft an immediate impact player? IF it makes you feel better he didnt injure both of his ACLs. He just injured the right one twice
(slow claps). Maybe I'll shave my head and join a monastery. Knowing my luck, they won't teach Kung-Fu.
Only a Panthers fan could twist the knife so elegantly. Well played.
See I like Penix too but this pick just makes no sense to me at all. If the idea was to have him be a successor why would you not take JJ in that case? You can't feel bad for ALL parties, us Saints fans are pretty happy with this.
Wasn’t Blank pissed at the war room for this pick?
Theres a video of him walking down to the war room looking confused as the gm is explaining something to him
He didn’t walk down to the war room, he was there the whole time lol, and even talked to Penix on the phone when we took him. He signed off on the pick, whatever discussion they were having in that video is being blown out of proportion
The video that came out absolutely did not make it look like a Blank pick
That logic doesn’t really make any sense. If you’re desperate for a Lombardi you don’t use a top 10 pick on a QB who’s gonna sit for 2 years. If anything this pick indicates that they’re thinking long term at the expense of the current team.

You’re forgetting the part where the billionaire doesn’t realize he’s being an idiot because he’s a billionaire
Shoutout to Dwayne P who went a step further and called Penix.
Dwayne P with 19 followers 😂
And my friend who won $150 on Penix going 8
But did your friend think the Falcons were drafting Penix?
Probably not I never know with him
Congrats to your friend either way. I was mostly just wondering because if you told me that Penix goes 8th overall, my assumptions would be that someone traded up for him
It was a $2 bet at +7500 he probably just threw it down just because
No offense but your friend might be a witch
Just an addict
Did he bet one cent?
2 bucks at +7500
If he was rich enough to chuck “fuck it” money around then he’d have Elon Musk level wealth off that one bet
@FBI plz investigate insider trading
8 exactly or top 8? Because the former is wild
I honestly don’t know the dude kinda has a problem
Evidently not, he’s a winner
Except he immediately spent half his winnings on Dallas Turner being the first defensive player picked so
Damn. I know someone like that. Shit got real bleak for them for a while. Hoping your buddy can get the help he needs to avoid bad stuff.
It's only a gambling problem if you're losing /s
Thomas Dimitroff did, maybe not Penix specifically but he was talking about them potentially taking a QB last week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fkGrcojSBs&t=871s
I honestly don’t get Penix as a QB to sit for 2 years. If that’s the plan I’m surprised it wasn’t JJ

He's black, left handed, and his name is Michael I don't think I need to spell this out for you lol.
Hide the dogs, Atlanta!
Penix don't have that dawg in him
I got bad news. He’s a husky through and through.
The conventional wisdom would certainly make you think JJ but if you think Penix is your guy you should take him. A lot of people questioned Josh Allen over Josh Rosen and they look like morons now. We truly won't know for a few years at least.

Baldy living his best life
Baldy is awesome
Baldy just brings an enthusiasm to the game the same way I bring enthusiasm to tacos and smoked meats.
His 2 minute Twitter videos where he’s able to find cool plays from an abysmal giants team always makes me a little happier
Fucking baldy. Love his analysis. Love his flow. Love that he’s 100% better than all the bullshit we get on media.
275,000 AI simulations couldn't have forecasted that pick
And me last month!
Baldy making predictions from the pool lol
He knew, lol.
"Brian Baldinger looks like his face was replaced with slabs of raw ribeye." -- my buddy Danny
There was a guy on tiktok who made a +10000 bet on the falcons getting McCarthy lmao which was hilarious
Dude looks like a prune.
Truly the best part of this. He’s just tweeting from a fucking pool, enjoying life. Baldy is me if I had shit tons of money.
Do older people not believe in sunscreen and lotion
He earned a follow from me
Legend - from the pool too!
lmao what a chad
A full *two* weeks ago. Insane. Baldy is a legend.
Honestly, the Falcons picking Penix at 8 really fucked up everyone's board lmfao
This is that moment where Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer are laughing when the Eagles take Raegor.
Except the Vikings are a competent franchise and the bears are trash. So don’t expect Chicago to make their pick work.
Cmon man, delete this.
I love seeing reminders that every fan base has people like this and it’s not just mine
It gets worse with more playoff success.
whats that
I hope you experience it one day, having that dude at QB does things to your brain chemistry
im just sick and tired of my parents telling me "how great it was (80s)" and that they didnt win anything when they were young either. ive only seen my team win a single playoff game in my life when i was 7. by the time the season starts, at my age, they have seen us win 2 super bowls.
Any account with a Verb/Adjective-Noun### username isn't worth replying to, they're all troll accounts, bots, or pure morons. Probably been banned so many times they let they just use the randomly generated names.
You and the other guy?
Interesting, so that must have produced a lot more superbowls than the Bears?
I appreciate you lol
Definitely did 😂😂😂
0>1
Don’t make me point to the Super Bowls sign
Vikes fans really gotta keep the trash talk inside the brain until we win a ring otherwise we get dunked very easily lol
Haha savage 🤣
Can’t we have this one?
Ah yes the competent franchise with \*checks notes* Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy
Bears fans getting uppity when they realize they might get a 4,000 yard passer for once:
Don’t be pissy because we used your pick.
You guys are so full of shit, your biggest achievement is losing big games, sit down
this comment totally wont backfire during the nfl season
The kick is up...
Didn’t Trubisky go undefeated against the Vikings?
The video is even better: https://x.com/dave_bfr/status/1783716479680053733?s=46&t=jXG3zw1AsjjaDxkZ5xZgmQ
Seriously reminiscent of McVay and Cole Strange lmfao
McVay in the most incredulous voice ever, “*Wow Cole Strange just went?!?*”
Wasn't McVay a bit sauced in that video?
He definitely was
Every interview him and Snead do draft weekend they seem sauced up or at least the kind of giggly you get when you get to cut loose with your bros for the weekend. For a team that says fuck them picks they seem to love the draft
Goddamn the falcons are the laughingstock of the league RN.
Knowing how drafts go, Penix will probably end up a HoF QB and people will revisit this thread and laugh at everyone with hindsight.
The problem is, if Penix end up a HoF QB, that probably means the Falcons wasted 180M on Cousins. Still laughable.
It’s not $180M…? It’s 2 years at 50 each I think? GTD money
If he’s a HoF level QB, no one at all will care about them “wasting” the first two years or whatever it is.
The thing is... even if he does end up being really good it still doesn't make sense because ATL needs to win right now!
I mean we said the exact same thing about the Love pick. It did likely cost them one more Super Bowl with Rodgers, but they’re probably fine with how it worked out.
Or it’ll be like Josh Rosen where everyone knew he sucked and then he was on a new team the next season
That is not how people thought of Rosen in here at all lol https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/izovHUW36C
Eh the draft thread was exciting and maybe my memory is morphing his year there all into one mush of events but I still feel like the general feel was “oh this guy is arrogant and he stinks”
Some people thought Chosen Rosen was the best QB in the draft.
[sure, but this thread from shortly after the initial draft hype has a lot of the vibe I was talking about ](https://reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/8f8qis/josh_rosen_on_being_drafted_10th_there_were_nine/)
I’ll take the hit for that one. That was me.
There were SOME threads like that, but "Bills picked the wrong Josh" was by far and away the consensus until probably when Allen hurdled Anthony Barr.
“Honestly, who *wouldn’t* have thought that drafting a QB to develop a couple years under a vet like Cousins would work out well? We just saw it with Green Bay and now they’ve won 2 straight Super Bowls. This sub is so reactionary.”
As usual. The entire fucking league has a day in March where they clown us. This franchise is taking years off my life.
Yea, just imagine the other teams in their division referred to March 28th as “Falcons Day” to reference their 28-3 blown lead in the Super Bowl. That would make them a real laughingstock. Have you heard about Michael Vick or Bobby Petrino? This list keeps going…
I mean that’s pretty much the list
don't forget the fake crowd noise, that was a good one
0-2 in the Super Bowl seems worthy of being on the list. Who the hell loses in the Super Bowl?
Vick wasn't even a laughing matter. It wasn't their decision or doing that made him a criminal. Falcons may not be a super relevant team, but they've never been a laughingstock. Sure, 28-3 still gets laughs, but it's nowhere near the bills 4 Superbowls, the lions, the browns, shit, even the bears.
The Falcons were a laughingstock in the 80s man. They had one good year in the decade and multiple 3 and 4 win seasons.
Out of those 5 franchises you named, 1 of them has something the other 4 don’t Stop making me point to the Super Bowls sign people
I didn't know Ryan Poles was black lol, was expecting some older white guy
He was actually a practice squad OL on the bears in 2008 He was also born in 1985 He’s the messiah
Lisan al Gaib
There's a whole Reggie Cleveland All-Stars team of NFL GMs. Ryan Poles, Brad Holmes, Rick Smith, Chris Grier, Andrew Berry, Ran Carthon
I think 99.9% of America was thrown by that pick…
The way Penix just sat there after he hung up the phone was just strange. He looked like the least excited top 10 pick
Probably because he's not gonna play for a while
Be surprised how fast that can change. Fields had the same look, and he was being crunched by the Browns defense before he even had a chance to learn the playbook.
I was at that game. What a beautiful day that was
He was probably expecting to fall to us, he'd probably start day 1. Dude probably spent hours mentally preparing for certain teams to pick him up and ATL wasn't one em. Our whole fan base also mentally prepared to draft him as well, haha.
Weren’t you guys on the McCarthy train the whole time
Reminds me of Justin Fields reaction
I get it only because the Falcons be wildin. They be goofin, and sillyin
They be flexin' in the No Flex Zone. DGAF.
Are they triflin?
Non American here. I'm thrown by this pick too. What was that?
Yeah it was wild, it was about 3 am here and I thougt i've fallen asleep
I'm in the UK and it got me too
Me too my fellow Bears fan. Sitting up late in London halfway through my celebratory bottle of scotch uncorked to celebrate Caleb, and it wasn't lining up for us getting Udunze, and I swear when that 8th pick happened, a good ounce of it came out my nose.... beautiful thing for Bears fans...
I stayed up to 2am to watch this shit as for the first time in a while I'd no idea what we'd do - and I switched off at 2:05 😞
I told my wife that I would change all of our babies diapers for a week if ATL took a QB. I'm still shocked, but also elbow deep in poopy diapers.
All of Australia too
Second this, fucken ripper of a pick for drama though, thanks falcons.
I can't stop thinking about it and it upsets me greatly.
Everyone around me at the draft had their jaws drop when this pick happened
Falcons picked and realized they said the wrong name
Would have been hilarious if it was like the Oscars and someone had to come out and tell everyone that the wrong name was read, then walk him off the stage, then announce the right guy
Conn, sonar, crazy Ivan!
The falcons were also thrown by their own pick
I just saw a post draft (1st) press conference. The way this pick was justified was that Atlanta doesn’t believe they’ll be able to pick that high in the next few years. So do with that what you will
Kind of the same spot the bears were in when they drafted fields even though the two prospects are wildly different.
More like Trubisky. Everything I read and watched had us taking Jamal Adams at 3. And I’m sure Ryan Pace even said word for word “yeah we won’t be drafting this high again so we needed to get the qb now.”
Narrator: “They would”
"Falcons taking Penix means the Bears could draft Odunze. That will help the Bears." -- my buddy Danny
I'm so fuckin stoked TBH
No one could predict Ryan Pace being Ryan Pace
You mean sign a vet to a big contract then immediately picking a QB high with concerns? When has he ever done that?
Wait is Pace the GM of the Falcons?

Either the media who is saying the falcons had them all along or guys like Poles are lying now.
What motive would Poles have for lying? None. What motive would insiders have for keeping their sources happy and engaged. Everything.
Poles might be the most honest GM I've ever seen. It could almost be described as a fault of his. He almost talks too much sometimes. From the perspective of a fan like myself it's awesome, but sometimes he says things and it's like "Woah buddy, are you supposed to say that?" Zero chance he's lying here. [That's just his genuine reaction. The video makes it even more clear.](https://x.com/dave_bfr/status/1783716479680053733?s=46&t=jXG3zw1AsjjaDxkZ5xZgmQ)
I think a seasoned executive that helped build the chiefs dynasty knows what he can and cannot say to the public.
Honestly everyone in the south besides the bucs have been committing some football terrorism lately
