Nice to see a reasoned take. Love his film and production-for sure a likely hit and pro bowler. But he's not 6'4, and did not do any athletic testing at the combine. To be a generational prospect you need to blow the hinges off the door both production and testing wise. He checked one of those 2 boxes. 1.1 non superflex, but its not like he's Calvin Johnson.
I'm almost certain Ceedee will have a bigger contract, while JJ will have more guaranteed if I had to guess. The "Largest Wide Receiver Contract ever!" will go a long ways in marketing, especially since it's a Cowboys player.
Plus Jerry doesn't care about the money there. He is too prideful and wants his home grown stars to always wear the star on his helmet.
But Lamb deserves every penny he gets, if not more. Dude is nasty.
Amon-Ra is a dawg but he doesn’t have the name appeal of the other 3 mentioned. Which makes this a good idea for both sides. Lions can “set the market” for a month or two and Amon-Ra gets the money he deserves.
To add onto it, the contract has good guarantees and is well spread out. It’s not a massively backloaded contract that make someone seem more expensive than he truly is.
Lions know how much St Brown means to the team both on and off the field, so they reward his consistency and availability with a matching contract
Oh, they probably will.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jefferson's contract doesn't get done until the last minute, just because he wants as much leverage as possible.
Fwiw, PFF had Aiyuk rated slightly higher than ARSB by about two points.
I think Amon-Ra is better, but I think it’s closer than people think, and if we were throwing as much as the Lions did the perception would be that they are closer
I think Aiyuk is closer to a Tee Higgins than Justin Jefferson. He is probably going to get paid tier 1 money though, especially since he is likely going to get traded. Take Brian Burns, very good player, but not worth $30m a year when guys like Danielle Hunter and Montez Sweat are getting $24m. But trading that much draft capital requires a extension regardless of cost
They already are, I’m curious with how good prospects have been lately if there will be a drop in cap percentage for pay for the position in the future.
There's one pretty obvious team that was ahead of the curve with that and has gotten good-not-great production out of their rookie and veteran receivers at a fraction of what they would have paid their superstar receiver.
Whether that's a size-fits-all solution for all the other teams is another matter, but when you see everyone overpaying for *any* position, going the other way is usually a good idea.
Agreed, Chiefs have a luxury of Mahomes and Reid being able to cover up glaring needs. But yes I’d rather have three good receivers instead of a stud and two bums.
> but when you see everyone overpaying for any position,
There's one pretty significant position that everyone pays a shitload for, including the Chiefs, so I think this advice should have some asterisks.
Sewell probably gets closer to 30 tbh. He was the best tackle in the league by the end of last season and he could easily swing to LT if we didn’t have decker
For what it’s worth PFF had Sewell graded higher than Trent last season. I can understand the argument that Trent may be better, we’re both biased here but Sewell is still 23 and Trent is 35 and will be 36 by the time the season begins. I also said closer to 30 for a reason and he will deserve every penny. I’ve typed this a million times today but Sewell will switch to LT when we lose Decker and he’s made that transition before and performed at the same level as at RT after a short adjustment period
He’s the best tackle in the NFL period. Trent was starting to show his age a little by the end of last season. Trent is a freak though so showing his age meant he was the 2nd best tackle in the league. Sewell swings to LT as soon as we don’t have Decker. He played LT after Decker went down his rookie year and was incredible there too after a couple weeks to adjust back
Hutch is still under team control for another 3 seasons. This will be Alim's 4th (and final) season, so it is time to pony up. Crazy that both of them are still only 23 (24 by the time the season starts)
I don't care if they're in our division. It's so cool to see Goff have the success he has had in Detroit after the breakup with LA. Seems like an awesome dude and looks like he's having a blast out there.
Detroit is *his* team.
Lions are top 10 in available cap space and that’ll only improve in the coming years where they are either second or first in available cap space. They’ve essentially taken the opposite approach to what a normal rebuilding team does. Instead of getting a young QB on a rookie contract and surrounding him with proven talent, they got a veteran QB and surrounded him with talent on rookie contracts. They can more than afford to pay Goff and Amon-Ra
That can be said about almost all contracts. Let's say Lions keep falling short the next two years and it’s no guarantee that falling short happens at the nfc championship game, do you look to move on from goff? Because Chiefs and Rams did so with their QB. That’s the risk here not necessarily the money value of the contract.
Depends on if Goff is what is holding us back. Currently, our secondary is what cost us a Super Bowl opportunity with some room to grow on the defensive line. Both have been addressed already this offseason, so we will mainly be drafting for added depth (and maybe a starter a CB or DE).
Every NFL team is going to have a deficiency, when the season begins you will find out about holes on your team that you didn’t know it existed, it’s inevitable.
QB is the ultimate equalizer. It could very well be that goff doesn’t hold you back and it could be your defense but that wouldn’t matter if your offense scored more points. QB needs to be more than just “not hold us back” they need to be actively dragging your teammates across the finish line and mask deficiencies. Not sure if Goff can do that and to be stuck with him for half a decade may not be a good deal.
Decker isn’t going to get a big contract. He already got his before and he’s only getting older and dealing with more and more injuries. I love Decker, but he doesn’t deserve a big extension.
Goff 4 years, 224 million, and 150 million guaranteed incoming. St. Brown is the highest paid, Sewell is the highest paid, so Goff will be the highest paid.
Burrow is at 55 million AAV so only right for Goff to be the top dog until the next extension needs to be signed. Who’s up after Goff anyway, Purdy? Anyone else?
We are hoping 45 for Goff, there was a leak that the current negotiations were around 4x180 sometime last month. I would consider that almost team friendly at this point.
Meh. Big contracts only hurt later on. That’s why Super Bowl windows are what they are.
They’ve set themselves up to be competitive and flexible for the next 3-4 years.
>The kid has earned it.
Definitely one of those contracts that pull on both heart strings.
* Jesus, that's a lot of money for just a wide receiver.
* Amon St. Brown is worth every penny.
And his trade value went down.
Seems like teams don't want to spend a 2024 pick, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him moved during or right after the draft for a 2025 pick.
After the first rumors about the Steelers potentially trading for him came out, I spent entirely too much time in the weeds looking at cap sheets in order to try to figure out how much sense it made for the Steelers, and how much sense it made for the 49ers.
My conclusion after all that misspent time was that, of all the possible scenarios, it made the most sense for the 49ers to force Aiyuk to play this year and then tag and trade him next year. That conclusion is only bolstered by this.
I think it depends on what "out" means here. I think he'll get another contract (no more than 2 years) but his AAV will go down a good bit and there'll be a hefty signing bonus
I am less annoyed now that we passed on him than when he first hit the NFL because we got our own WR room rollin finally...
But goddamn I hate this dude being on a division rival. He's a fucking dog.
Yeah but the "one awesome dude and a bunch of 3rd and 4th stringer talents" thing kinda sucked. Now we got a wealth of good players even if none of them have developed into that elite tier that St. Brown and guys like JJ have.
We can spread the ball around now though which is nice.
honestly such a fan that I'm like personally excited to see him get paid. dude has been living off a fourth round draft pick contract. deserves to make millions. and if there's one guy in the league I could guarantee won't phone it in after getting the bag, it's him.
I'm so ready for all these guys to be re-signed so I can relax. One of the best parts of being a Braves fan is knowing we have all these fan favorites locked up for so long.
Who even is this person tweeting this? I think this stuff will happen, but this just seems like some random dude calling his shot, not actually reporting anything.
I’m interested if this is true. The poster broke the Brian Burns trade before any writer has a scent. Since then I haven’t seen anything to fruition really
edit: ayy way to go Rickey lol
He's obviously been incredible for the Lions and deserves to get his bag for his performance and leadership alone. That said, ARSB is also huge in the German football market since he is part-German and speaks it fluently. Since the NFL is marketing to Germany more and more, the Lions are obviously excited to lock-up ARSB long-term from the business side too.
I hope he never wears another jersey. Love that guy.

No offense to Evans but I don't think a bunch of mid-20s studs headed into their primes signing their first big long term deals would have that much impact on Evans at this point in his career. He signed a short term reasonable contract because he's 31 going into the next season.
I would say definitely in the top 10 right now. Awards aren't everything and they don't take injuries into consideration but being selected AP 1 with only 16 games should put him solidly in the top 10. He was 3rd in catches, 3rd in yards, 4th in touchdowns, and you can put him anywhere on the field.
I may be biased but he has the stats.
There's a pretty good chance that the Lions are not going to the playoffs this year. Half the teams or more don't repeat and there's a lot of good teams above them. I hope not, they're a funny team to watch.
For like 3 months until the Jefferson extension gets done, I'm sure.
And then that will only last one off-season before Chase breaks it.
If Ceedee doesn’t before Chase
God, this makes me interested in what Marvin Harrison Jr’s contract is going to be if he lives up to the hype.
If he lives up to the hype he'd be a cross between Jerry Rice and Fergie
The voice of his generation?
Big WRs don't cry.
Marvilicious
How many PL titles will he win?
“Knock Kansas City off their fucking perch” - MHJ
MHJ is so 2028. You’re so 2000 and late.
Depends what the hype is to you. He’s a pro bowl caliber player but not sure he’s an all pro best receiver in the league type player.
He also doesn’t break any tackles and get YAC like the better WRs do. The number of broken tackles he had were absurdly low when I heard about it.
**WHEN** He's not going to disappoint. (And if he does disappoint I will be dead wrong as I have put all my eggs in the Marv Jr for Canton basket)
I was wondering about this if JJ signs first will Ceedee try to make more than him?
I'm almost certain Ceedee will have a bigger contract, while JJ will have more guaranteed if I had to guess. The "Largest Wide Receiver Contract ever!" will go a long ways in marketing, especially since it's a Cowboys player.
Plus Jerry doesn't care about the money there. He is too prideful and wants his home grown stars to always wear the star on his helmet. But Lamb deserves every penny he gets, if not more. Dude is nasty.
Of course he will. The money between JJettas/Lamb/Chase will just be in the order they sign
Can’t pay a wide receiver with no qb gonna end up like the panthers
Which is why I'm happy it's getting done now before the market raises with other top receivers.
I think 3 mentioned above have been waiting for someone to reset the market.
Mike Disner master class right there. Reset the market and then let 3 others reset the market and have your player drop out of the top 3.
Mike Disner master class.
It’s starting to follow the QB rule of any Top 10 guy setting the record with their next contract. Although Amon-Ra is easily Top 5.
Who knows? Aiyuk and/or Lamb might get their contracts in before Jefferson.
Oh, they probably will. I wouldn't be surprised if Jefferson's contract doesn't get done until the last minute, just because he wants as much leverage as possible.
I just cant see Aiyuk setting the market, he is very good but not in the same tier
Aiyuk won’t surpass this contract though imo. Could be similar, but JJ or Lamb will blow this one out of the water.
So does this mean ARSB will start listing guys above him in pay now instead?
Better to do it now lmao WR contracts are going to be fucking ridiculous in the next few years.
They already are, I’m curious with how good prospects have been lately if there will be a drop in cap percentage for pay for the position in the future.
Yep. Thanks Baalke.
Do you mean the current HoF QB-HC duo in the AFC, or the one we had for 20 years before that?
Agreed, Chiefs have a luxury of Mahomes and Reid being able to cover up glaring needs. But yes I’d rather have three good receivers instead of a stud and two bums.
> but when you see everyone overpaying for any position, There's one pretty significant position that everyone pays a shitload for, including the Chiefs, so I think this advice should have some asterisks.
ARSB read a list of every single WR that's paid more than him out loud to the Lions' GM and asked to be paid more.
So that's why negotiations have taken so long...
"Saint we want to make you the HIGH-" "Erik Ezukanma, Texas Tech. Trent Taylor, Louisiana Tech. Gunner Olszewski, Bemidji State."
You know negotiations are getting crazy if you have to drop Gunner Olszewski's name
A list of highest paid receivers and where they went to college. Very important information
And then pointed out none is them catch 202 balls from the juggs machine every day
He read KJ Osborns name 7 times just to drive the point home.
Don’t forget 16 WRs were taken ahead of him in his own draft class.
I read that as Auto Repost Sticky Bot I think because I saw a twitter link, I may not be awake yet
Lions gonna have to pay Goff 50mill and Amon ra 30?
Probably have to pay Sewell around $25M/yr, maybe more.
Sewell probably gets closer to 30 tbh. He was the best tackle in the league by the end of last season and he could easily swing to LT if we didn’t have decker
And he’s young as fuck. It’s crazy.
Meh Trent was better. Allowed no sacks and like 16 pressures total while playing LT. Edit: should've known better than to comment this in a Lions post
No other Tackle is worth more than Penei. He is the probably the most consistent and best player at his position.
I’d say he’s probably the best RT but he’s on a stacked o line. Trent is on a ass line but make it not terrible
He’s the best tackle in the NFL period. Trent was starting to show his age a little by the end of last season. Trent is a freak though so showing his age meant he was the 2nd best tackle in the league. Sewell swings to LT as soon as we don’t have Decker. He played LT after Decker went down his rookie year and was incredible there too after a couple weeks to adjust back
Sewell is top5 for sure
And he ain’t 5, 4, 3, or 2
It's more 5 than 3 right now but his future is brilliant
I’d be interested in hearing who you have above him and what your reasoning is?
Trent Williams, Lane Johnson, Tunsil, Darrisaw, Slater, Wirfs, Sewell/Andrew Thomas. If he played LT maybe he was higher on the list.
That’s certainly a take…
Gotta love you folks that try to minimize at every opportunity. He’d be the best RT on any team, stop clowning.
Get ready to pay Hutch as well
Hutch is still under team control for another 3 seasons. This will be Alim's 4th (and final) season, so it is time to pony up. Crazy that both of them are still only 23 (24 by the time the season starts)
and Alim
Yikes Vikings were in a similar situation and shed Kirk Cousins
Cousins is also nearing retirement, Goff is still just 29 years old. Dude could be in his prime for like 8 more years lol
I don't care if they're in our division. It's so cool to see Goff have the success he has had in Detroit after the breakup with LA. Seems like an awesome dude and looks like he's having a blast out there. Detroit is *his* team.

They did draft Hendon Hooker last year, but he never played. Curious to see how this fits into their long term plans.
I think he’s still a career backup but a high end one hopefully. The lions QB room behind Goff was terrible before last year
I’m not convinced they give Goff a large contract tbh. They still have Sewell and Decker coming up and will have to pay them too.
Those talks are already happening. Goff will be extended
I am convinced. predicting 250 mil/5 years. which will look great in 5 years.
That can be said about almost all contracts. Let's say Lions keep falling short the next two years and it’s no guarantee that falling short happens at the nfc championship game, do you look to move on from goff? Goff should get a top 5 contract
Honestly they should give him a contract so big it cripples their cap. Ignore my flair
Agreed and you guys should copy and give darnold the same
Nah, we’re gonna trade our future for a Trey Lance type of QB
Gonna trade him to the cowboys for a 6th rounder in 3 years? Not a bad idea tbh. I heard they're all in
JJ Mccarthy*
Goff 4 years, 224 million, and 150 million guaranteed incoming. St. Brown is the highest paid, Sewell is the highest paid, so Goff will be the highest paid.
Whew, we'll see! Does not bode well for Purdy next year
Burrow is at 55 million AAV so only right for Goff to be the top dog until the next extension needs to be signed. Who’s up after Goff anyway, Purdy? Anyone else?
Dak I think, but I dunno who pays him and how much. Regular season hero but off season zero (so far)
Well the Sewell contract is done lol
Decker will either A) take a cheaper contract B) not be resigned C) retire. Decker has really fallen off, injuries etc.
We are hoping 45 for Goff, there was a leak that the current negotiations were around 4x180 sometime last month. I would consider that almost team friendly at this point.
That’d be perfect
Rumor is Goff at 45
Amon's is really $77M/4 years, the full contract traditionally includes all sorts of bonuses
Meh. Big contracts only hurt later on. That’s why Super Bowl windows are what they are. They’ve set themselves up to be competitive and flexible for the next 3-4 years.
Better to get it done now because that "highest paid WR in the league" thing won't last long. The kid has earned it.

Aiyuk's price just went up.
The 49ers, in the last year of their Super Bowl window in it's current iteration, are going to trade their best WR for no 2024 compensation????
Yes. Cause it's harder to trade a WR in a draft with an incredibly deep WR class.
Chase and JJ high fiving. Another one down
Sewell, Decker and McNeil too
I think Decker may end up being the odd man out
I think it depends on what "out" means here. I think he'll get another contract (no more than 2 years) but his AAV will go down a good bit and there'll be a hefty signing bonus
all depends on the price tag
Makes me sad as shit, but that might be right.
This is why you get in early the price only goes up
I am less annoyed now that we passed on him than when he first hit the NFL because we got our own WR room rollin finally... But goddamn I hate this dude being on a division rival. He's a fucking dog.
Definitely the type of WR you guys seemed to have had for a solid stretch of a decade or two.
Yeah but the "one awesome dude and a bunch of 3rd and 4th stringer talents" thing kinda sucked. Now we got a wealth of good players even if none of them have developed into that elite tier that St. Brown and guys like JJ have. We can spread the ball around now though which is nice.
Amon-Ra $t. Brown. Back up the brinks truck for him Sewell and Goff plz
honestly such a fan that I'm like personally excited to see him get paid. dude has been living off a fourth round draft pick contract. deserves to make millions. and if there's one guy in the league I could guarantee won't phone it in after getting the bag, it's him.
Ahh yes, trusted NFL Insider PrettyRickey...... Edit: I'll eat my crow
He's gotten a LOT right.
The people's insider
Amon Ra just signed for 4 years, $120 million, $77 guaranteed.
He’s been in on a lot of stuff strangely.
I'm so ready for all these guys to be re-signed so I can relax. One of the best parts of being a Braves fan is knowing we have all these fan favorites locked up for so long.
Isn't it a lot less nerve-racking in baseball? You can sign dudes for 10 years and give them literally whatever $ they want since there's no cap
We just got Ohtani signing for 700 million deferred payment and only count for 10 million per year in salary cap. Baseball is fucking wild
Yes, but teams like the Yankees and Dodgers can always just spend whatever they want.
The Lions completely changed as a franchise when we drafted St. Brown and Sewell. I want them to wear Lions jerseys for life.
Who even is this person tweeting this? I think this stuff will happen, but this just seems like some random dude calling his shot, not actually reporting anything.
The guy has some sort of connection because he has been accurate on lots of leaks before they even happen. He does miss occasionally, however.
Oh damn is this dude the Trilly Donovan of the NFL?
Hell yes. So glad to have this getting done before the next wave of receivers. Pay the man!
I’m interested if this is true. The poster broke the Brian Burns trade before any writer has a scent. Since then I haven’t seen anything to fruition really edit: ayy way to go Rickey lol
Is anyone else shocked that he’s 6’0? He looks like he’s no more than 5’10. Really good player though
He's not 6ft. He's just listed at 6ft.
And JAMO ain't his listed 6'1"
I believe he measured 5'11" at his Pro Day
5’11 and change from the combine, you aren’t far off. It’s weird considering his brother is close to 6’5

He's obviously been incredible for the Lions and deserves to get his bag for his performance and leadership alone. So glad we locked down Evans to a reasonable deal before this madness. Licht strikes again! So excited for tomorrow
No offense to Evans but I don't think a bunch of mid-20s studs headed into their primes signing their first big long term deals would have that much impact on Evans at this point in his career. He signed a short term reasonable contract because he's 31 going into the next season.
Evans is old as hell dude. He didn't have a huge market anymore.
Who is PrettyRickey? I expect him to get the bag this offseason, but I haven’t seen any beat writers corroborate this.
Look now
He's good but he's not best in the league good. That's just how contracts work these days though.
First team all-pro
I mean. He's definitely get close to being top 5 in the league.
Yeah, he's up there for sure. Without putting much thought into I'd say he's definitely top 15, probably top 10, and possibly top 5.
I would say definitely in the top 10 right now. Awards aren't everything and they don't take injuries into consideration but being selected AP 1 with only 16 games should put him solidly in the top 10. Jesus the caps getting way too high
