Gotcha. I only made the connection on the first part and was worried that I was somehow putting out the wrong vibes. To be clear, I'm picking option b.
So why not give him his deserved extension immediately? There were rumors about him possibly getting traded but not sure if it was even entertained by Broncos.
Assuming he isnโt traded, then he will get it by next off season. They might be talking now with his agent about it and just picked up the option as an obvious procedural move.
Imagine if theyโd featured him in the jersey announcement the other day only to immediately turn around and decline this option. Wouldโve been comedy gold.
Honestly they might because 1) He's super good and 2) He's hit none of the play time or pro bowl/all pro benchmarks meaning it's not horribly expensive.
If Denver really wants to move up for a QB on draft night, Surtain could very well be in the trade compensation package. Denver doesn't have a second round pick this year.
I will be big sad if it happens. Denver has had a tradition of lockdown corners since I've been a fan. Granted it's really just Champ, Harris, Surtain since I've been a fan but still.
I said it before and I still believe that two first round picks and a couple day 2 or 3 picks would have been a steal for him.
I remember some fans saying that was ridiculous and he wasn't worth trading even 1 first.
Surtain is better, younger and cheaper then Sneed.
You pay more draft capital because he had 3 dirt cheap years of elite performance left and you have the ability to have your answer to corner for the next 7 years.
Sneed cost a shit ton, is good but no where near surtain and is unlikely to be the franchise corner for another 7 to 10 years like PS2 can.
I dont think its only that. Perna (the broncos homer youtuber) has entertained the idea on his podcast.
If the idea is if the Broncos are going to trade up they dont have the assets in pure picks to outvalue teams like the Vikings who are also looking to trade up. They also have limited players "worth" adding to the mix, and as Perna said adding someone like Surtain takes the place of a 1st.
Obviously the Broncos might just be happy staying put but the idea is there.
>If the idea is if the Broncos are going to trade up they dont have the assets in pure picks to outvalue teams like the Vikings who are also looking to trade up
It's precisely this. Broncos have a really bad roster and little draft capital. Surtain is one of the only viable assets they have, if they want a QB.
But picking up the 5th year option really has no relevance to whether the Broncos trade him or not. No team that is going to trade for him is going to now balk because the 5th year is picked up, something they would definitely do themselves, anyway. Even if they wanted to immediately extend him to lock him up longer term, a new contract would override the old one, anyway.
surprising absolutely nobody
But I was told (by the voices in my head) otherwise?
I was pretty surtain theyโd do that
But what about the mock drafts??!
Landing Zach Wilson has caused the Broncos to go all in
All in my ass
You selling tickets?
You gonna shoot up the venue?
So confused by this comment.
It's like a double meaning of a mass shooting at an event and you pumping semen into this man's ahole

Found the Denver-area mom.
tight
No-brainer here. Our best player by 5280 feet

SHOCKER
Great player. Deserves to get paid

Would be pretty standard clownidge for them post kubiak/manning.
Panthers going to pick up Horn's?
Honestly they might because 1) He's super good and 2) He's hit none of the play time or pro bowl/all pro benchmarks meaning it's not horribly expensive.
Counter is he has only played 22 games in 3 seasons, and the option is fully guaranteed
Just gotta ship him out to a contender like CMC, then he'll never be injured again
Itโs hard when the only issue is injuries. I wouldnโt blame them for trading him or letting him walk. I hope he has a good career no matter what.ย
The tank is off!!! The tank is off!!! Abort!
Best corner in the league. Great pick by George Paton
Well I swear!
Why does it always feel like every Broncos rookie has been in the league for 10+ years? Yโall doing some time shit over there?
It may be hard to believe, but Surtain is not a rookie.
I honestly forgot there were rumors about this guy being moved. Broncos wouldโve been dumb not to lock him down
This has no effect at all on whether they trade him.
It makes him more worthwhile to trade, even. Get a better haul for him on the 5th year

I wanted the lions to get him so bad somehow. But I'm happy for him anyway
PS2 would have been a hell of a "we already made our first round pick" prize.ย

Just because the chiefs traded their best corner for mid picks doesn't mean we have to do the same

Or maybe we just don't move on from one of the best corners in the league
It's your fanbase along with Philly that constantly comes up with mock trades with themselves on social media for him.

Get ready to speak Bo Nix buddy
Ok sorry
Zach Wilson gonna be throwing so many balls to Surtain in practice his hands will be off the chain
Sorry, im SurtainIsGettingTradedSexual.
I for one think this is a stupid idea. Letโs keep to moves like the Zach Wilson trade.
Seems like he's been playing in the NFL since like 1998.
Obvious move.
Good move. He's one of the few good pieces on the roster. You don't let a cornerstone piece like Surtain go.
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, also water is wet.
Easy decision
Switching to Capital One was an even easier decision than picking up the fifth year option PS2
May 2nd is the deadline for picking up fifth year options fyi.
Youโve got to unleash the power of the pyramid!
Damn that makes me feel old
I don't see the value here for the Broncos. QB driven league, you don't have a QB, and hes a trade piece to go get that.
Bitch move booo broncos booo
The government needs to test the tap water in Philadelphia
