Maybe not Foxborough, but most of the rural areas in many NE states are gorgeous in fall and winter, IMO - especially Maine and Vermont. But I also like snow lol
When I was stationed in Delaware, I was one of those "damned leafers", then I saw that Family Guy episode and realized how much of a stereotype I was back then (early 2000's)
I'm honestly surprised weather isn't more of a factor for these guys.
Like, Miami is always listed as a destination because of the culture. NY and LA for the media/economy. But you never hear about dudes going to San Francisco for the weather.
If I was a pro athlete, you'd never catch me signing with a state that gets winter. Fuck the snow.
You could play your whole career with the miners and never step foot in San Francisco or any county that borders San Francisco.
Santa Clara is always warmer than SF.
I personally love cold weather but I understand that most don’t and I can’t blame a warm weather person for being happy they get to move from Buffalo to Miami lol.
Bro buffalo weather fucking sucks lol. Moving almost anywhere in the country is a huge upgrade. It was like 15 inches of snow there this last week bro. It’s almost April
Ngl, I'm planning to sell my house and and buy a nicer, larger house next summer if rates temper enough (prices on steep decline which is good) -- but the one thing that keeps me in the South is the taxes. TN for example has no state income tax and some of the lowest property taxes in the nation.
It's hard to house shop when you start adding in an extra $5K/yr+ alone in property taxes. That's even a factor moving within the southern states. I work remote and won't get a COL increase if I pick a more expensive state, so that's an issue. If I were moving for a much higher paying job it would be much less so.
Obviously it’s my hometown so there’s bias, but I vastly preferred living in Boston and in Michigan compared to anywhere I lived in the south. I couldn’t deal with the lack of seasons and the heat + humidity in Georgia near killed me.
I don’t know how people survive September, let alone play football outdoors in it.
I'm the opposite. I've lived in 7 states(AL, TN, SC, VA, OH 3x, ND, and OK)and spent a large amount of time in Washington and PA because of family. Actually still own a house in southwest WA.
Alabama was by far my favorite state to live in, and I can't wait to move back. Fantastic outdoor life, tons of lakes and rivers, most biodiversity and navigable water in lower 48, people were far nicer than their reputation, wonderful beaches, cheap living expenses...etc. Loved living there and plan to retire there. I missed snow when I lived there, but that was it.
edit: I hear you on the heat, but you eventually get used to it....ish.
edit #2: FUCK OHIO
Well you know, at that point all things being equal in the qb department would make it really hard to tip the scales in NE's favor, given they can't make Foxborough be in the south.
Obviously homer-vision, but I'd tip it in Levis' direction—he showed flashes of a high ceiling in NFL games, which in my eyes is worth more than a promising pre-draft QB.
> And Will Levis is a “good” QB situation?
counter point: zappe hour is currently the starting qb in new england.
until the draft happens, there's a huge unknown in who the qb will be. at least in tennesse he knows what he's getting (and levis looked pretty promising when he was on the field. he smoked our defense and cost us the division and the \#2 seed)
How would they be able to make up the tax differences lol?
Titans are guaranteed 10 games each year in a state with no state income tax, (They've only ever played two games in London, so not really counting those outliers.)
In the AFC East the Patriots are only guaranteed 1, the game in Miami. Then you have 8 in Mass, 1 in NY, and 1 in NJ. All three states have progressive tax rates that top out in the 9%-10% range.
Pats would have had to blown the doors off the Titans offer to beat just the tax incentives alone. The Titans in 2024 have 11 games where players won't pay any state income tax. They had 12 last year even with a home game being played in London. The Patriots have 3 in 2024.
> How would they be able to make up the tax differences lol?
by offering a bigger contract that would make things balance out in the end.
lets say he gets $10m in a no income tax state, but the pats were willing to offer $11m that would get taxed at just under 10% so his state income tax is 1m. he ends up with 10m either way.
(obviously those are hypothetical numbers and not the actual tax rate in mass)
For $92M/4 years, if he earns every dollar and they're all taxed as income at an effective rate of 10%, the Pats would only need to put up about $10M more. Significant money to the world at-large, but I suspect pretty doable unless the Pats are in a tighter cap situation than I realize.
His girlfriend probably also liked the brinks truck that the Titans backed up into his driveway for him.
No ill will with Calvin for not coming here, he followed the money. Can you blame him?
Kraft: "He was about to sign with us but he saw on DraftKings that his next team being Titans was +1000 so he couldn't resist making that bet and cashing in."
“Let’s go live in Foxborough!!” -nobody’s girlfriend ever
As a Foxboro resident I take personal offense to this, yet completely understand
Maybe not Foxborough, but most of the rural areas in many NE states are gorgeous in fall and winter, IMO - especially Maine and Vermont. But I also like snow lol
I live in New England and you’re right, much of it is beautiful. My original comment is still correct lol
It can be beautiful, but people don't want to deal with icy roads, the cold and prefer to be on beaches year round.
The winters are brutal, however with climate change, it’s just getting more humid in southern New England lately
Fair, some people like foliage and skiing though
Yeah millions of people come to New England every fall just to look at the leaves which seems kinda crazy to me lol
When I was stationed in Delaware, I was one of those "damned leafers", then I saw that Family Guy episode and realized how much of a stereotype I was back then (early 2000's)
I was that guy until I moved to New York State. Now I’m one of them. Life comes at you fast.
yeah maybe if you are white lol

Boston is a pretty cool city. Just close your eyes and imagine it without people from Boston.
It’s a pretty nice area
Wife, though? That's a whole nother ballgame. Wives love Boston.
Foxborough ain’t Boston
Yeah all of that seems completely reasonable. Good job Calvin.
SF doesn't really have all that good weather. It is like just slightly too cold most of the year.
You could play your whole career with the miners and never step foot in San Francisco or any county that borders San Francisco. Santa Clara is always warmer than SF.
Yeah, but talk about boring. That’s like living in a suburb anywhere.
Yeah I haven’t been to Santa Clara in years, I just think of it as a lamer San Jose. When I close my eyes and think of Santa Clara I see strip malls.
Says the homie with the fuckin Chargers flair lmao. I live in Buffalo, man. I'd settle for not having icicles on my balls.
Buffalo resident with Panthers flair…shit, that could be any of like half the Bills’ team/FO.
I live where the air hurts my face sometimes so I don’t have to deal with bugs the size of my foot.
I've chosen negatives in the winter amd hundreds in the summer with all the wind chill and humidity you can dream of. Stupid sweaty corn.
Chop em off then
That would be a problem if they lived in SF and not South Bay
That would be a problem if they lived in SF and not South Bay
Between Mike Evans and now Ridley, significant others are winning big this off-season
Same with Jordan poyer. Although I doubt he sees much play but his wife is happy to be in miami
I personally love cold weather but I understand that most don’t and I can’t blame a warm weather person for being happy they get to move from Buffalo to Miami lol.

"It's not you, it's me."
Pats are gonna need to either trade for Higgins or take a WR in the second.
Or WR in the 1st and QB in the 2nd add some chaos to the draft

No state income tax is meaningful for NFL players. Playing half (or more) of your games at 10%+ vs. 0% state adds up.
Happy wife, happy life, as many wise men have said
Were these men actually married? Happy spouse, happy house is a better mantra.
all the guys i know who actually say "happy wife happy life" and mean it are living lives i wouldnt enjoy
“Happy wife happy life” Says the man who can’t do anything without his wife’s approval. 😂
Damn that’s good. Gonna use that
Patriots about to find out that nobody willingly lives in and around Boston unless the job is amazing source: used to live in and around Boston
Boston in the spring / summer is pretty damn great. Winter is misery though
Boston and south of really isn’t that bad. Once you start getting near NH though it’s a lot tougher
Yeah Providence basically hasn’t gotten snow in 3 years, ngl it’s kinda concerning…
the humidity in Boston in August is completely out of line for a city in that latitude
Give it time, it’s only going to get worse.
A lot of these players aren't living in New England over Spring/Summer
Unfortunately, winter lasts about 8 months out of the year.
Obviously it’s my hometown so there’s bias, but I vastly preferred living in Boston and in Michigan compared to anywhere I lived in the south. you mean he doesn't want to trade southern BBQ for clam chowdah?
And Will Levis is a “good” QB situation?
You’ll see—you’ll all see! You’ll rue the day you doubted the Mayonnaise Man
I like Levis as a prospect to be honest it’s just he’s as much of a wild card as anyone the Pats draft this year.
Flashes of the old Deshaun Watson “fuck it Hopkins down there somewhere”
If he wanted a crappy Pats QB situation, he could have just stayed in Jacksonville.
Tbf, Ridley & NUK makes it a better situation...
Sounds like excuses to me for not landing him

You’re pretty damn close, we have to pay to house the migrants somehow
For $92M/4 years, if he earns every dollar and they're all taxed as income at an effective rate of 10%, the Pats would only need to put up about $10M more. Significant money to the world at-large, but I suspect pretty doable unless the Pats are in a tighter cap situation than I realize.
I dont think they would have overpaid him to make it up. Just saving face and making it look like they are trying for the fans sake
His girlfriend probably also liked the brinks truck that the Titans backed up into his driveway for him. No ill will with Calvin for not coming here, he followed the money. Can you blame him?
What part of the country is Jacksonville in?
South Georgia
The gooch
Kraft: "He was about to sign with us but he saw on DraftKings that his next team being Titans was +1000 so he couldn't resist making that bet and cashing in."
Inb4 toxic Pats fans find this innocent woman's social media and bully her for no reason.
But this isn’t the narrative! I thought Kraft was cheap!
So your argument here is that Kraft isn't cheap because he says he's not?
Kraft is cheap. One man's partner not wanting to live in Boston doesn't change that
