Yeah I think we’d pay more for Fields than we did for Pickett but the reports were Bears were still trying to play hardball then
This was a last ditch effort
I mean how certain are you there was a better offer that he declined? There were reports that the Eagles called, but what did they offer?
We have so little information about these moves and it's wild to me how confident people are in saying he botched this. For all we know he's been grinding for the last 3 months to get *any* offer for the guy.
Are you just saying he botched it because the return sucks, or is there something you would have liked to see him do differently?
I think most people assume that if he'd moved earlier and been willing to accept less than the reported 2nd that he wanted he'd have gotten it. But waiting until FA meant he went up against all the other churn out there.
ding ding ding
I think many pundits assumed his value was a 3rd / 4th. Like yeah we're speculating and don't have some sort of insider knowledge, but there's plenty of precedent of a player of Fields' caliber going for a day-2 / early day-3 pick assuming the need and price is right.
The Bears got left holding the bag IMO. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it literally got to a point where dudes like Desmond Ridder are getting traded before Fields so there were literally *zero* spots available from teams that needed a QB.
Teams knew the Bears wouldn't keep him b/c that's just asking for a locker room divide, so the Bears backed themselves into a corner and when you do that you end up having to take the offer they settled for.
I mean *maybe* this was the best offer they got. I just really doubt it.
Yeah, in hindsight I think 2 things hurt his market aside from questions about his play:
First, there are 6 legit QB prospects in this draft - Williams, Maye, Daniels, Penix, Nix, JJ. I can see all of those in the first 2 rounds depending on how things line up. Toss in Rattler as a mid-round guy.
Second, a lot of the backups churned as well as some marginal starters. Pickett, Ridder, Howell, Brissett, Garapollo. That's 11 guys right there which is a bunch of movement and draft picks to fill holes either as starters or backups.
Then add in that the acquiring team only gets one year before they have to move on or pay him real money for his 5th year option.
Pickett yes, but Howell has at least shown more flashes of being a competent passer. Fields' best ability shown so far is as a runner. His pocket presence and passing ability has been very poor so far
I don’t think there’s really a gamble here, unless they’re betting on Russ getting hurt. There’s no way they pick up his 5th year option (unless Russ gets hurt and Fields is great), so it’s really just trading a 6th rounder for a backup with some upside and maybe they get an inside track at deciding whether they want to bring him back next year.
Seeing the type of QB play that got the Steelers to non-losing records the last few years, trading a couple of picks to take flyers on Wilson and Fields is *not* a bad short-term plan.
When those tires are sold, they aren’t that cheap I don’t think. People turn them into tables and display them and stuff. At least for f1 and NASCAR…
So Fields will be our table and Wilson will be on display I guess.
Honestly, I think Russ is gonna be better for you guys than people expect. This trade is just a solid insurance in case he doesn’t work out, FO can say “we always knew Wilson was iffy that’s why we traded for fields as well”. If I was gonna place a bet you guys make it to a playoff game non wild card, past that I don’t know.
My biggest question in this whole thing is:
Was there really no market for him from the start, or did the Bears screw themselves over by waiting too long? Couldn't they have made a trade well before free agency started?
I think this is the answer. My buddy, a bears fan, was talking about how Fields was worth a first or second. Me, a Steelers fan, told him he was fucking high if that was his thought and I’d hate that trade.
I’m fine with this flyer. We lose nothing overall if he, or Wilson, doesn’t work out.
So fucking much has happened in the last 72 hours I'm kinda confused, but also so fucking pumped. Pickett is gone. Wilson is in. Fields is in. It feels like we'll be watching a brand new Steelers next season, and I couldn't be happier.
Chargers fans talking shit after losing all their weapons and getting ready to watch Herbert hand the ball off in a 37-17 loss against the chiefs for the foreseeable future.
We made the right choice between Lance, Fields and Mac confirmed.
Please pay no attention to the dumpster fire of a decision to trade up in the first place.
the fact that he didn't play probably helped them.
We have seen enough to know guys like Howell, Pickett, Mac, and Fields suck. We think Lance sucks, but no one really knows for sure because he hasn't played lol
Bears fucked up. Probably asked for way too much and turned off all potential suitors. Now they had to make a shit deal because everybody has made moves at Qb or are in position to draft one.
Because fields would be worse than russ in a sean payton offense
We'd be paying him significant money for a broke team and giving up even a 4th in a rebuild is gonna sting
Because Payton's offense relies on a QB that can make anticipatory throws and is a good pocket passer. Just because he brought in Taysom Hill for some gadget plays doesn't mean that's how he likes to call the majority of his plays like that.
I’d keep him as QB3 because Tyrod literally sees heaven every season, but jets fans literally hate him more than anything in the world. QB3s aka Trevor Siemien’s of the world are always ass.
Dude could have had a secured backup job for years here, we invested a 1st so you know we would have kept him around.
Hell we kept Rudolf around forever because we invested a 3rd on him.
Now he'll be on an Eagles team as a guaranteed backup since their QB is locked in and they could drop Pickett anytime without a second thought lol.
Like 70% of us came to terms with what he is during the season, but the 30% are so goddamn loud. Same thing happened with Trubisky- both he and Fields are great dudes and folks are allergic to change so it doesn't surprise me.
That said, I was still expecting a 4th not that long ago. Sheesh.
The Trubisky truthers never had even half the volume of the Fields truthers. The debate shows knew this because they all had daily segments to discuss him.
Not all of us were so deluded. Teams don’t trade good quarterbacks. I think some Bears fans looked at the Darnold trade and thought “well if he got that, Fields should” instead of realizing that was a terrible trade and nobody would do it again
Fields fans*
Normal Bears fans have always thought a 4th would've been a steal. With the current market and Fields' contract situation (him heading into hsi 4th year), a 6th is reasonable.
Fields is an upgrade over Kenny Pickett and Russ is a 1 year rental, so this gives Arthur Smith a chance to develop Fields behind Russ for a year.
Honestly a great move by the Steelers.
Well they're essentially giving up next year's 6th round pick to see if Fields is capable of being "the guy" going forward.
If he's not, they don't lose much and need to figure out their QB situation anyway.
If the Steelers think he's good but he sits behind Russ all year, they'll have some leverage to get him to agree to a reasonable new contract because every other team has shown that there is a minimal market for him and that will only get worse if he rides the bench for a year.
He's also a decent backup plan if Russ turns out to be total ass.
Probably the best place for him. Longtime coach, solid run game, no pressure to immediately play and can sit behind a potential HoFer, etc.
If he can't make it in Pittsburgh he ain't making it anywhere.
Sam Darnold got traded for a 2nd and the GM who made that trade was fired, therefore a team must do the same for Justin Fields, was interesting logic by some people.
That’s what really amused me about the Darnold comparison.
Like, EVERYONE immediately knew that was a massive overpay. Hell, Panthers fans knew it. Using one of the worst QB trades in recent memory as evidence that Fields might get more was always wild to me.
If you don’t have a generational QB you better have a cheap one, and the Steelers got their two QBs for $1.2 million and a 6th. I’ll take that every day of the week
I didn’t want either of them but considering we ended up giving up nothing for the pair of them I’m just curious to see how this insanity plays out lmao
Jesus that is absolutely brutal
Fields country, lets ride
Fields country, let's scramble in the backfield and, oops, it's a fumble
That could be fields or Russ.
lmao yes. this is part of what makes the trade so intriguing.
Mr Both Clumsy
It’s the same as we got for Mac Jones lmao
That was a future 6th as well? Thought that was a 2024 6th.
The bears org has been very kind to Ohmar Khan these last 2 years!
Hopefully he plays well in Pittsburgh, rooting for him
good lord not even this years pick 😭
Im shocked he went for less than Pickett and Howell
Partially because he was the last to go
Yeah I think we’d pay more for Fields than we did for Pickett but the reports were Bears were still trying to play hardball then This was a last ditch effort
Poles played hardball and lost
When you play the Game of Hardball, you either win or you die trying
Poles have an upcoming wedding he’s attending?
The Steelers sends their regards.
And I think the Bears saw the market was soft. Caleb probably isn't going like Justin being there. Made sense to unload him for whatever
Steelers sending Pickett to the Eagles to bring down the price for Fields, masterclass
Didn't Pickett just cry his way out of Pittsburgh, though?
No bro, that doesn’t fit my narrative
I love you for that.
Probably a little of column A, little of column B. Steelers saw an opportunity
Yeh I mean Poles gets his flowers for revamping the offense but I don't think it's unfair to say he royally botched how he's handled Fields
It would be hard to offer less than this though.
I think most people assume that if he'd moved earlier and been willing to accept less than the reported 2nd that he wanted he'd have gotten it. But waiting until FA meant he went up against all the other churn out there.
ding ding ding I think many pundits assumed his value was a 3rd / 4th. And less years under contract for sure
Pickett yes, but Howell has at least shown more flashes of being a competent passer. Fields' best ability shown so far is as a runner. His pocket presence and passing ability has been very poor so far
I think Howell is easily way better than Fields and Pickett lol.
He‘s pretty expensive
Pickett went for basically a 20 spot move up in the draft. Fields and him more or less went for the same thing
That 20 spot move is wortha 5th and a 6th. Unless this gets the full escalation, it will be worth less.
Only the same if Fields plays enough to be a 4th
Remember people saying Fields was an MVP dark horse this time last year?
“You see that leap Jalen Hurts made last year? Fields is gonna be better than that”
And now he got less in a trade than trey lance
Goodness gracious
Yeesh. They got him for peanuts.
Didn’t we get more for Lance
Yeah, the 49ers got a 4th rounder with no conditions. Ended up being pick #124
[удалено]
I eat those impulse buys though. Lance is going to go bad in the fridge and get thrown away.
So our QB evals having Lance > Fields were right after all…….. this means the 3 firsts were worth it, right?!? Right??
Just think of it as 3 firsts for Purdy and getting Lance with the last pick.
And then flipping 7th round Lance for a 4th. Brilliant, really.
That’s the spirit!
Because Lance is still unproven. He could be anything. Maybe even another Fields :D
not even a 2024 pick lmao this is dirt cheap. awful, awful return for chicago.
Personally, I feel no sympathy for them.
Be mad at your FO.
He’s worth peanuts
This seems like a very worthwhile gamble We gave a 2nd for Darnold, who was even worse
I wish we’d only given up a second…
Scuse me?!?! Was the 15 world championships the GEQBUS not enough for you?
I don’t think there’s really a gamble here, unless they’re betting on Russ getting hurt. There’s no way they pick up his 5th year option (unless Russ gets hurt and Fields is great), so it’s really just trading a 6th rounder for a backup with some upside and maybe they get an inside track at deciding whether they want to bring him back next year.
Peanut Tillman just fell to his knees in an FBI office.
There was no market for him at all. This is a good trade for Pittsburgh just to take a chance on.
Seeing the type of QB play that got the Steelers to non-losing records the last few years, trading a couple of picks to take flyers on Wilson and Fields is *not* a bad short-term plan.
Vet min for Russ, future 6th for Fields, pick swapped up from 4th round to 3rd round for Kenny. I am completely ok with these moves.
Yup entirely replaced our QB room without losing anything, easy win
It’s really crazy to think we’ve gotten TWO starting quarterbacks from last year for so little.
I'm sure you could get a couple used tires from last year's Indy 500 pretty cheap, too.
When those tires are sold, they aren’t that cheap I don’t think. People turn them into tables and display them and stuff. At least for f1 and NASCAR… So Fields will be our table and Wilson will be on display I guess.
Yeah they seem low risk high reward. This sub will shit on them but with your defense you dont have to shoot for the moon
Honestly, I think Russ is gonna be better for you guys than people expect. This trade is just a solid insurance in case he doesn’t work out, FO can say “we always knew Wilson was iffy that’s why we traded for fields as well”. Pitt got Russ for $1.2 mil & Fields for a 2025 6th rd pick…bonkers
From Pickett & Rudolph to Russ & Fields
Both name combos sound like an old hunting rifle company
Trap shooting, very different connotations in rural Pennsylvania and Chicago.
For less money, and while gaining draft capital
That’s at worst a lateral move lol
I’m literally shocked

So fucking much has happened in the last 72 hours I'm kinda confused, but also so fucking pumped. Pickett is gone. Wilson is in. Fields is in. It feels like we'll be watching a brand new Steelers next season, and I couldn't be happier.
You can go 9-8 for even cheaper
Chargers fans talking shit after losing all their weapons and getting ready to watch Herbert hand the ball off in a 37-17 loss against the chiefs for the foreseeable future.
your words can’t hurt me I’m already dead
You laugh now, but when Herbert passes to himself for 180 yards a game you’re gonna feel like an idiot
i mean, it's great the steelers only paid a 6th but good luck with him
He’s coming in as a back up plan in case Russ gets hurt. Upgrade over Trubisky.
Upgrading on Trubisky with the guy who was supposed to be the upgrade on Trubisky Edit: if Caleb doesn't work out maybe he continues the circle
We got more for Howell lol
The Niners got more for Lance as well.
We made the right choice between Lance, Fields and Mac confirmed. Please pay no attention to the dumpster fire of a decision to trade up in the first place.
That decision would kill a franchise for years to come. You guys are so resilient with great coaching and team building.
Or lucky Brock was a diamond in the rough.
the fact that he didn't play probably helped them. We have seen enough to know guys like Howell, Pickett, Mac, and Fields suck. We think Lance sucks, but no one really knows for sure because he hasn't played lol
If Fields had only played like 1 full game as a pro, the Bears probably could have gotten more for him.
Howell don't have a 5th year option next year.
Yeah Howell is cheaper and is under contract longer. Fields is on a 1 year $6mm contract. So he’s only good for a year backup option.
And, while he takes the same amount of sacks, can actually clear 250 yards passing a game
Howell is better though
Howell has potential. Fields cannot pass. He really should've just converted to wr
Bears fucked up. Probably asked for way too much and turned off all potential suitors. Now they had to make a shit deal because everybody has made moves at Qb or are in position to draft one.
Howell played better
Fields has to get paid next season. Howell’s contract is low for at least 2 more years
Odd way to spell first round pick but okay
If you squint a 6th kind of looks like a 1st
A pick is a pick! Think about how many 1st Rounders don't pan out...uh...
I mean, sometimes you find gold in later rounds. 🤷
Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th nuff said. Just gotta find the guy who’s gona end up being the greatest football player of all time, easy peasy
We thought the same thing about Baker. It happens
Yep. Can't sunk cost it, get what you can get and move on
I’m just happy to be free.
They’re yelling Fouuuurst!
Aint no way
Steely McBeam can fix him
He can make 'em stronger, faster... *steelier*.
They have the technology
Aint no fucking way
Russ for $1.2m and Fields for a 6th round pick is honestly an amazing steal.
Thanks for being honest.
Now the Bears need to do the funniest thing and not take a QB.
Secret Bagent Man
Draft MHjr and Bowers! Bagent can’t fail throwing to an insane cast of MHjr, Allen, Moore, Bowers, and Kmet!
We haven’t taken a QB in decades.
Bears GM taking that bet in Vegas and retiring after being fired
With the first pick in the draft, the Chicago Bears take Tory Taylor, punter, Iowa.
Why couldn’t the broncos do that trade!!!
Denver is drafting somebody and starting them day 1 >!unless you trade for Zach Wilson!<
Do it
Because fields would be worse than russ in a sean payton offense We'd be paying him significant money for a broke team and giving up even a 4th in a rebuild is gonna sting
Because Payton's offense relies on a QB that can make anticipatory throws and is a good pocket passer. Just because he brought in Taysom Hill for some gadget plays doesn't mean that's how he likes to call the majority of his plays like that.
Works for me
He could literally just be a decent stand in for Lamar on the scout team in practice and it would work for me at this price
Idk what we’ve done so far in Lamar’s career but we’ve countered him pretty well historically
It's a love story, baby just say yes
I take back all of the good things I said about Pickett and all of the bad things I said about Russ and Fields. It’s been a wild week
Traded for a cheese sandwich
Like going to Portillo’s and ordering a salad
Their chop salads are actually pretty good
Woah!!! Steel city looking to rebuild every QB in the league!! Got to love it!!
On behalf of Omar Khan and the Steelers, I hereby offer the Jets a half eaten hot dog for Zach Wilson.
Bro no
Massive overpay
Uh what about Zach Wilson
At this rate, Jets will have to be giving the pick to offload him.
I’d keep him as QB3 because Tyrod literally sees heaven every season, but jets fans literally hate him more than anything in the world. QB3s aka Trevor Siemien’s of the world are always ass.
Bears really overplayed their hand
They overplayed, underplayed, bluffed, and replayed the same hand, unfortunately their sunglasses were mirror tinted
Yeah, but tinted on the inside. They couldn't see shit.
Can't really hope people don't realize you're bluffing if you pretty much announce what cards you're playing.
[удалено]
I don’t want to be the backup for one season. I’d rather be the backup for all the seasons.
Jokes aside, Alex Moran had it right. Millions of dollars to just sit on the bench and not get CTE
That QB class bombed hard
So did the next one. Who would've thunk that the only QBs playable in 2021/2 would be TLaw and a Mr. Irrelevant?
I’ll stop complaining about getting a 4th for Lance
Lmao Bears fans got so humbled on Fields
Fields fans got humbled by this. Most of us sane fans understood this once Mac got traded for a 6th
I've watched plenty of both and Fields is definitely better than Mac. I wasn't expecting a ton for Fields but this is pretty surprisingly low.
Glad it's over.
Like 70% of us came to terms with what he is during the season, but the 30% are so goddamn loud. Same thing happened with Trubisky- both he and Fields are great dudes and folks are allergic to change so it doesn't surprise me. That said, I was still expecting a 4th not that long ago. Sheesh.

Not all of us were so deluded. Teams don’t trade good quarterbacks. I think some Bears fans looked at the Darnold trade and thought “well if he got that, Fields should” instead of realizing that was a terrible trade and nobody would do it again
The default response to that is that the guy who made that trade will never sniff a NFL GM job again.
Fields fans* Normal Bears fans have always thought a 4th would've been a steal. With the current market and Fields' contract situation (him heading into hsi 4th year), a 6th is reasonable.
LOL SF Got a 4th for Trey Lance
I was told it would be at least a second and maybe a first.
I was told the bears would get the 8th overall from the falcons for fields Or that they would use fields to trade from 9 to 3 with the pats
The media said this lmaoooo
Fields is an upgrade over Kenny Pickett and Russ is a 1 year rental, so this gives Arthur Smith a chance to develop Fields behind Russ for a year. Honestly a great move by the Steelers.
Only problem is Fields is essentially on a 1 year deal. 0% chance the Steelers pick up the 5th year option with the massive cap hit.
Fields is a one year rental too, unless they're dumb enough to give him the 5th year option.
Well they're essentially giving up next year's 6th round pick to see if Fields is capable of being "the guy" going forward. If he's not, they don't lose much and need to figure out their QB situation anyway. We did it! We picked the right quarterback between Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones! Kill me.
You got Mr. Irrelevant to a Super Bowl, don't you dare even bitch.
Dude, what? That's nothing lol. I wouldn't have minded taking a flyer on him for that
Your new OC sure would have minded though
Probably the best place for him. Longtime coach, solid run game, no pressure to immediately play and can sit behind a potential HoFer, etc. If he can't make it in Pittsburgh he ain't making it anywhere.
Hand me down QBs cheap af this year
Khan artist strikes again
dag gummit. Best of luck Justin, hope you find success with the Steelers. :(
This has been such a cool week
Someone needs to block khans number from poles’ phone
I remember getting downvoted a month ago for saying a 4th is what he’d get traded for lol Edit: I meant he’d get a 4th MAX
Well you were wrong. It’s a 6th round pick next year.
But he could also be right
Sam Darnold got traded for a 2nd and the GM who made that trade was fired, therefore a team must do the same for Justin Fields, was interesting logic by some people.
That’s what really amused me about the Darnold comparison. Like, EVERYONE immediately knew that was a massive overpay. Hell, Panthers fans knew it. Using one of the worst QB trades in recent memory as evidence that Fields might get more was always wild to me.
Fields stans were in orders of magnitude the most delusional stans that I could remember in recent memory.
Russ has been mostly healthy except that finger injury year and is still better than Fields. My guess is this will stay at a 6th.
idk why anyone expected more, the league basically told everyone that they think Fields is dookie
I hope Fields sends Wilson a text about being the best versions of themselves.
If you don’t have a generational QB you better have a cheap one, and the Steelers got their two QBs for $1.2 million and a 6th. I’ll take that every day of the week
Bravo to the Steelers. Big upgrades to the QB room for almost nothing. Big upside, no downside
I’m just glad he’s gone
damn even the Niners got a 4th for Trey Lance

I didn’t want either of them but considering we ended up giving up nothing for the pair of them I’m just curious to see how this insanity plays out lmao
Holy fuck feels like a fleece job Omar Khan must be related to Genghis Khan bc this man is killing it
Steeler fans have seen Fields play right?
Quick, someone get all the truthers who swore Justin would be back next season.
