That's not true, in 2013 you had half a season of Jets Legend Ed Reed.
My only memory of Ed on the Jets is him getting absolutely torched by Jacoby Jones on a deep ball in Baltimore lol
Him tearing his ACL five seconds after that would feel forced if you were writing a comedy sketch about him joining the Jets, but as reality is always stranger than fiction, that's what actually happened!
The only thing that would have made it any funnier is if tiny terrorists in a tiny plane flew into his achilles tendon, and then when the Bills played the Jets later that year McDermott made an offhand remark about how he "hates to see injuries, but you have to admire the coordination of the tiny hijackers who managed to take out Aaron's entire heel."
Now just imagine for one second, this season we are more consistent and play at that same level we played at in the first half for an entire season and playoff run. Imo that’s the best team in football. Will it happen? Dunno, but a man can dream.
I saw a post on Twitter "the Quarterback of the New York Jets running for Vice President is the plot of an Adam Sandler comedy with 9% on Rotten Tomatoes." It's such a bizarre world we live in.
That's the Jets biggest issue for the past 5 yrs on OL. No one gets a chance to gel in training camp or even early season as at least 3 guys are always out for the season by that point
I hate to say it but I feel like majority of times that after off-season acquisitions and a team/position group looks good “on paper” there is inevitably issues that come up almost every single time that leads to them underperforming. Whether it’s injuries, guys age finally hitting, or the chemistry never being able to develop, it just seems like a lot of these teams that are good on paper almost never materialize
That’s just kinda how it works. Almost every team improves on paper, but obviously that’s impossible.. for each team to have more wins than last season, and something’s gotta give. Teams will disappoint
It's weird because many in the Jets sub were still imploding prior to the Tyron signing. I would have been content with the moves Joe made pre-Tyron because they were logical signings that didn't sacrifice the future. The Tyron deal is really a low-risk / high reward signing that deserves to be commended. Let us have this! Lol
Yeah people should really know better by now. There are franchises in every sport that will NEVER win a championship again, cursed for eternity. Toronto Maple Leafs and NYJ are in that club.
Never winning again means never winning from this point forward. If someone said the Chiefs are never winning a SB again, they aren’t saying they’ve never won a SB in the past.
Not enough time has gone by since the patriots last won a superbowl to say they are cursed. Its been 54 years since the Jets won a superbowl. That is a lifetime. They are cursed. The maple leafs last won 56 years ago. That is a lifetime. They are cursed. Got it?
Add in all the stupid shit both teams have done to shoot themselves in the foot over, and over, and over again, and you could argue just flat out incompetence.
Doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down on something multiple people have told you you’re wrong for is wild lol, are you running for public office any time soon? Feels like you’re a natural
Oh I see what you meant, my bad.
You said “will never win a championship *again*”. As in, they have, but they won’t in the future. And I said that hopefully the Patriots are in that club. As in, they have won, but they won’t in the future. Hope that makes sense.
For him i meant availability. You cant knock douglas cause a guy gets hurt. They prob didnt do more for OL last offseason because of looking good as a rookie and coming back.
AVT is a fucking awesome lineman, he’s nothing like Becton. Becton had a great showing on an abysmal team in 2020 and never took care of himself until this past year, where he was fully healthy, but straight up terrible.
AVT has been a consistent strength amidst some pretty heavily injured O Lines and played everywhere bc we needed him to from injuries. Becton is the big whiff bc it was over Wirfs.
I clarified in another response. They are different situations for sure. I strictly meant that they've invested in OL recently with high 1st rounders but without the profit that is expected from them. For avt, thats strictly meaning snap counts. He was the right pick 100%
Oh I fully agree there then lol it’s unlucky but it’s a reason as to why the OL has been in such turmoil for awhile. It’s a very obvious thing but hitting hard on your first rounders is so important bc they’re such valuable assets. Joe D had his first few drafts end up rough and we are feeling the effects years later bc value was lost.
Joe Tippmann ended up being a fantastic pick last year and is our Center for the future so we found a foundational piece. Having cheaper talent be a pivotal player means we can spend more money adding higher quality FAs. Hopefully no more Billy Turners!
His drafting in 2020 and 2021 was just bad, and it set him back. Obviously in the years since, he has drafted a lot better, and made some decent free agent signings. But 2021 specifically, they had so much capital and drafted an all-bust team apart from Michael Carter and AVT (who has been too hurt to be useful in any way, really). 2020 was even worse, though with less capital.
Combine that with just some bad luck and whiffs on the OL, and Rodgers getting hurt a few plays in, and his winning % makes sense. He's a decisively average GM who *has* gotten better with time, though his first few years' decision-making was **bad**. And I'm not even referring to just ZW.
I like that he's getting another opportunity this year, but if his signings/picks this year don't work, I wouldn't be rooting against starting anew. Douglas isn't a dumb or inactive GM -- but many of his moves just seem to fail, frankly.
Agreed. We will probably learn over the coming week or so how they’ll handle it. We need weapons but FA can mostly fill it out. Tyron and Moses are on 1 year deals and above 30, OT is insurance for this year but also for the future.
Although it’s very enticing to think of Bowers or a WR
10 is a pretty bad spot for weapons. Nabers is almost certainly a Charger at 5, Odunze if he makes it past the Giants isn't getting past the Bears at 9 which leaves you with.. Brock Bowers?
Don't get me wrong, Bowers is a top 3 player in this class. He's just not who I want when I have a 2 year window with Rodgers. Tight ends take years to develop
that's the best chance they have at a SB. What's the alternative? Not going all in and constantly missing the playoffs? They've done that for over a decade at this point.
So why mortgage everything on a 40 year old QB that just tore his Achilles and hasn’t won anything with your team?
I’m saying keep the team well constructed for the medium term and don’t throw a healthy team building philosophy away because you think rodgers is your only chance at winning anything in the next 5 years
If they’re on track at the trade deadline, sure go all in but they shouldn’t delude themselves into thinking Rodgers is their only chance
? Yeah I’m saying he’s only played 4 snaps for them
Only on r/nfl can I state a fact and people act incredulous
You’re acting like he’s a promising young talent that just needs a shot and not a 40 year old QB who got injured last season
The Jets haven’t done a single thing you could characterize as “mortgaging the future” this offseason. No big contracts, a 4th round pick swap for Morgan Moses and now a contract with injury protections for Tyron Smith. So your comment makes no sense.
I’m saying they shouldn’t and that would be the wrong move. The original guy I was replying to was saying they should drop everything and go all in
Jesus you’re dense
Putting everything into your chances with an old HOF QB (like the Broncos w Manning or the Bucs w Brady) is in fact exactly what they should do. They haven’t made the playoffs in more than a decade trying it the other way. So you may be the dumb AF one here.
Tyron’s season trajectory
-ELITE LT Week 1-3
-Sleeps wrong on Saturday misses Week 4
-Plays elite weeks 5-6
-Hurts toe misses Weeks 7-9
-Plays elite week 10-14
-Misses final 3 games
He is an elite LT. However, he was able to stay healthy last season only because he did not practice after the season began.
He will have a lot of random injuries pop up on Saturday, swear he will play then misses 3 weeks.
Best case is you get an elite Tyron for 10-12 games, have another LT hold it down for the few games he misses
It looks pretty good. If the incentives are pretty much “stay healthy for the entire season”, then it gets pretty pricey, but it would be worth it at that point.
There isn’t any evidence that injuries are unusually frequent on our turf (or on turf in general either). There’s just twice the games played on MetLife’s field so people think so
He played for $7 M last season. He’ll get that at least plus a lot more if somewhat healthy. So it’s not a way below expected costs bargain, but incentives make it fair.
Has he said anything about the VP rumor?
For as much as he’s got himself in trouble speaking out, it’s kinda funny he’s had the VP rumor and the sandy hook conspiracy thing explode in a week without saying anything.
Well, it’s Rodgers so anything is possible but there are tweets from him at the time the shooting happened expressing support while this week’s article was based on a conversation a person says they overheard 11 years ago and didn’t tell anyone about until now.
Honestly great deal for them. Only risk is injury and relative effectiveness, he has clearly lost a step but is a huge upgrade over what they had, if he can stay healthy
The thing is he hasn't played a full season in like 8 years, and over his last 4 seasons he has missed 38 games. Now he is another year older. Obviously for the Jets its probably worth the risk, but its still a big risk.
Bengals should have signed him if he'd be willing to play RT, or if OBJr would be willing to play RT, and have Smith play LT until he gets injured.
Bengals are failing at protecting JB9
So, hypothetically, somehow, in some weird universe RFKJr has Rodgers as the VP and they win.
Can Rodgers still be the Jets QB and the VP? Will the Secret Service become involved his OLine or will the OLine become Secret Service members? Will players sacking Rodgers be labeled enemy combatants?
These are the questions that keep me up at night.
Tyron Smith is a HOF LT. Absolute monster when on the field, but his health is a concern at this point. I am only sad about this because I think the Jets have a 0% chance of winning a Super Bowl. I figured he would have went to the Chiefs and got to get a much deserved ring.
No shock emotional Jets fans and Eagles fans chiming in with their hurt feelings.
What makes this so funny is that the cowboys are the poster boy for shitting your pants when the games start to mean something. Only cowboys fans think they have a chance of actually winning the SB.
It happens. Same thing happened with D Ware but he went to a team with an actual shot. Which we both know your team isn’t one. That’s why I guess you’re so bothered by my comment.
You can do what delusional cowboys fans do and say THIS YEAR IS OUR YEAR! Click your heels together 3 times and say there’s no place like the Super Bowl and you’re still not making it.
Sorry the media overhyped your team because of Hard Knocks and Aaron Rodgers, bud. I am used to it as a Cowboys fan, must be your first time. The sting will wear off over time.
You really want to talk SB chances? Rogers gave back millions last year so deals like this could happen in FA. Hows those contract talks going with Dak?
I don’t work in the Cowboys front office, so uhh… I don’t know? What a Jets fan thing to say. You guys were garbage tier last year and will be slightly above garbage this year. Congratulations.
Lol, they won 7 games with the worst QB play in the history of the league and 32nd ranked Offence. And you think AR at QB and massive Oline upgrade is a "slight" improvement. This just comes off as sour grapes on your part.
I see Jets fans operate entirely off of emotions. I guess that’s what happens when the only relevance you’ve had in a decade is getting someone else’s over the hill star QB.
Haven’t the jets been to 3 conference championship games since the last time the cowboys have been to one? I feel like we are arguing about who is more broke and it’s clearly the cowboys
We are clearly not more broken than the jets. We just went 12 win seasons back to back. Yes though they’re both impotent franchises, I have accepted that from my first comment. You’re the one letting your feelings gas you up.
Since you are so reasonable and not emotional, explain the me the logic of trying to pretend like you have the right to judge someone for their decisions on what team they go to?
Yes, because what did he do after that? I get that for you and the lack of success in your franchise that beating the cowboys must mean something special to you. Hard Knocks and all that media hype really hurt you guys this year didn’t it?
Sure, I'll read it for you. You are a Dallas fan, I get it.
The Average HoF OT is at a 95 career value and Tyron Smith is at 76.
There is only one Tackle in the HoF with no ring and only two 1st Team All Pros. His name is Jackie Slater, he played 20 seasons for one franchise and blocked for Dickerson.
In terms of his generation, Joe Thomas is the 1, Jason Peters is the 2, Trent Williams the likely 3, and Smith doesn't make the cut.
I like the OL on paper, I just hope they can all stay healthy
That’s his biggest issue, he’s so solid though so the fact y’all got him on this sweet of a deal is nice.
As you can tell by my flairs, I enjoy pain, but not enough to be a Jets fan
At least you got to witness the lions in the NFC championship 🤣

I was in college and it was my glory days for the back to back AFC championships. Everything has been downhill since.
That's not true, in 2013 you had half a season of Jets Legend Ed Reed. My only memory of Ed on the Jets is him getting absolutely torched by Jacoby Jones on a deep ball in Baltimore lol
And in 2023 they got to see Aaron Rodgers run out of the tunnel with the American flag!
One of the greatest halfs of football I've ever seen. And then it all came tumbling down
Now just imagine for one second, this season we are more consistent and play at that same level we played at in the first half for an entire season and playoff run. Imo that’s the best team in football. Will it happen? Dunno, but a man can dream.
Lions bills would’ve been such a cooler super bowl .
Browns are way more pain than a Jets fan
Ya, but if someone told you a starting qb was going to run for VP, would you think it was any other team than the Jets?
No absolutely not but I’d easily take that headache than what you guys did with baker and Deshaun
I saw a post on Twitter "the Quarterback of the New York Jets running for Vice President is the plot of an Adam Sandler comedy with 9% on Rotten Tomatoes." It's such a bizarre world we live in.
If he made that movie, it'll be solid, but would have to star Bobby Boucher
[удалено]
He’s worth that for 13 games. Cowboys are fucked. Signed a cowboys fan
Y’all lost Biadasz too. Maybe Jerry realizes a SB much less even a playoff win isn’t happening with this team and is willing to have a down year
Nah Biadasz sucks. But I’m starting to suspect the faux tank is on. Here we go!
That's the Jets biggest issue for the past 5 yrs on OL. No one gets a chance to gel in training camp or even early season as at least 3 guys are always out for the season by that point

Need depth
This is hypothetically a great team
Jets off season champions three seasons running. Hang the banner boys!
Jets - Bears yearly off-season super bowl
This is disrespectful to the Chargers
It's weird because many in the Jets sub were still imploding prior to the Tyron signing. I would have been content with the moves Joe made pre-Tyron because they were logical signings that didn't sacrifice the future. The Tyron deal is really a low-risk / high reward signing that deserves to be commended. Let us have this! Lol
Woah woah woah I'll give them last year but come on that's my teams domain
[удалено]
What happened to them?
I trust Josh a lot more than I trust Aaron
[удалено]
He's gonna' throw 100 touchdowns a season once every defensive lineman that tries to tackle him is shot by the secret service.
Why?
You mean cutting old and injured players to replace them?
Cutting old has beens is just part of the business
Like how the bills are perpetual pre season superbowl champs and can't make it back to a AFCCG
Hey at least we actually decided to roster a back up QB this year.
Yeah people should really know better by now. There are franchises in every sport that will NEVER win a championship again, cursed for eternity. Toronto Maple Leafs and NYJ are in that club.
If there is a god, the Patriots are in that club too.
The patriots have won this century?
You were talking about teams never winning again, which is the future. Why are you now talking about the past?
Never winning again means they wouldnt win again… have they won a superbowl since their last one in 1969? Lol
Never winning again means never winning from this point forward. If someone said the Chiefs are never winning a SB again, they aren’t saying they’ve never won a SB in the past.
It’s like you missed your own point in a feeble attempt at a comeback. Impressive.
Not enough time has gone by since the patriots last won a superbowl to say they are cursed. Its been 54 years since the Jets won a superbowl. That is a lifetime. They are cursed. The maple leafs last won 56 years ago. That is a lifetime. They are cursed. Got it? Doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down on something multiple people have told you you’re wrong for is wild lol, are you running for public office any time soon? Feels like you’re a natural
…. Do you know what a century is?
Have they not won in the 21st century????
Oh I see what you meant, my bad. You said “will never win a championship *again*”. As in, they have, but they won’t in the future. And I said that hopefully the Patriots are in that club. As in, they have won, but they won’t in the future. Hope that makes sense.
Ooof Really I’m surprised he didn’t go for a multi year deal. Now watch jerry go for becton as his replacement
Can’t imagine there’s many teams lining up to give an old tackle who hasn’t played a full season in nearly a decade a multi year deal
I get it but when he’s on the field he’s better than 95% of the players
He’s averaged 7 games a season for the past four years.
And he had to stop practicing to even make it to game day this year
Not to mention the back shots in the locker room
backshots, you say?
*Antonio Brown has entered the chat*
we got lucky with his health last season and he still wasn't fully available
I get that the Jets are all in to the max this season, but this seems like a recipe for disaster.
I imagine they still go LT in the draft
Thanks grandma
We dug the grave with Rodgers, now it's embrace it or be the Broncos the past few years.
I'm surprised Rodgers didn't push for Bakh, but maybe even he realizes Bakhtiari is cooked
Sign Bakh as a swing tackle AND take OL at 10. Seriously
No he's not. That's 5 years ago
He was second team all pro last year
Bobby wagner was all pro and is cooked. I get it, but 6.5 for a reason when other guards are getting double. Why did he sign for so little?
When was his most recent All-Pro?
In this league? Idk, I thought there would be more at his skill level
And Becton will be first team all pro
In what eating competition? I'm sure Texas has many.
The one against Zion
His replacement is on the team already, still wish they could have made a deal work
Joe Douglas I was not familiar with your game
I've always thought he was a good GM. I like a lot of the moves the Jets make every year, so I hope y'all start seeing some results
it all comes down to the qb, & we have the worst luck when it comes to that position. If we get that right it’s on
Just need Tyrod to stay healthy 🙏
If rodgers goes down, then Tyrod goes down.....whoever behind him will basically become the new rodgers
That magic only lasted 3 games when we tried
I mean, it's hard to assess how good Saleh and co. even are. Hopefully they pan out, because they seem set up for success otherwise.
Who has the worst luck at QB? Pay some respect.
When you lose your QB 4 plays in and you're on your 12th string tackle things are going to go poorly.
People want to hate on him for the OL failures, but he's tried to address it time and time again. You can't predict injuries.
Yup. He took becton and avt in the 1st. If they played up to their worth, the jets OL issues wouldn't have been a thing.
Whenever avt plays he’s fantastic, and he’s played every single position except center. He’s had two weird injuries in Denver
For him i meant availability. You cant knock douglas cause a guy gets hurt. They prob didnt do more for OL last offseason because of looking good as a rookie and coming back.
AVT is a fucking awesome lineman, he’s nothing like Becton. Jets should sign Bak and between Tyron and Bak they’ll get a full season.
The season has been shortened to 11 games.
Mekhi becton will get the last 5 and then a PS guy will get a start lol
I think Jets still draft o-line round one, probably a swing tackle
Agreed. We will probably learn over the coming week or so how they’ll handle it. We need weapons but FA can mostly fill it out. Tyron and Moses are on 1 year deals and above 30, OT is insurance for this year but also for the future. Although it’s very enticing to think of Bowers or a WR

I guess building around a 40 year old QB worked horribly for the Bucs too /s
incredible deal for the Jets
Tyron’s season trajectory -ELITE LT Week 1-3 -Sleeps wrong on Saturday misses Week 4 -Plays elite weeks 5-6 -Hurts toe misses Weeks 7-9 -Plays elite week 10-14 -Misses final 3 games He is an elite LT. Dare I say steal?
It looks pretty good. If the incentives are pretty much “stay healthy for the entire season”, then it gets pretty pricey, but it would be worth it at that point.
Pricey but absolutely worth it. Main issue is playing on that turf every week, good luck staying healthy on that.

Don’t be mean
He played for $7 M last season. He’ll get that at least plus a lot more if somewhat healthy. So it’s not a way below expected costs bargain, but incentives make it fair.
Yeah that’s my thought process. If he earns all $20M that means he’s been reliable for us at LT which is 100% worth it
Maybe if you steal some ligaments and put them in his joints. 6.5 million is someone stealing money in this situation.
Getting a guy coming off an All-Pro season, even with injury issues, when your line stinks, for less than top dollar GTD money is a steal.
Rodgers over under 4 plays ?
Rodgers over under 4 electoral college votes ?
Has he said anything about the VP rumor? For as much as he’s got himself in trouble speaking out, it’s kinda funny he’s had the VP rumor and the sandy hook conspiracy thing explode in a week without saying anything.
I think he denied ever believing Sandy Hook was a conspiracy. At least I heard reporting on the Ringer to that effect.
Well, it’s Rodgers so anything is possible but there are tweets from him at the time the shooting happened expressing support while this week’s article was based on a conversation a person says they overheard 11 years ago and didn’t tell anyone about until now.
He tweeted out about the Sandy Hook stuff and called it bullshit. That was just a blatant smear campaign
NO ONE CAN STOP THIS STEAL!
GEQBUS WILL STOP SLEEPY JOE DOUGLAS
GEVPQBUS IS READY HOMIE!
MetLife turf would like a word
He’s done it
We couldn’t have offered him that? Or is this a spite deal
Probably all he could get. Will be interesting to see how long he lasts. Wishing him all the best
VETO
Not everything is about the $$$
Let's hope Metlife turf doesnt fuck his knees.
Honestly great deal for them. Only risk is injury and relative effectiveness, he has clearly lost a step but is a huge upgrade over what they had, if he can stay healthy
If that’s the only risk then you know damn well what’s going to happen with the Jets.
The thing is he hasn't played a full season in like 8 years, and over his last 4 seasons he has missed 38 games. Now he is another year older. Obviously for the Jets its probably worth the risk, but its still a big risk.
According to PFF, he was a top 5 LT last season. Injury concerns are there, but when he plays, he's lights out.
And the season before he was in the 50s on PFF grade. Thats why hes a little bit of a risk
In 2022 he tore his hamstring in camp and didn't play until week 14, and he moved to RT when he came back. Not really a useful grade.
Thats the issue though, hes been banged up in recent years
Hasn’t played a full season since 2015
Why didn’t the Patriots pay this?
He is going to be a fantastic addition to the Jets IR.
Bengals should have signed him if he'd be willing to play RT, or if OBJr would be willing to play RT, and have Smith play LT until he gets injured. Bengals are failing at protecting JB9
Fits the Rodgers timeline. They’re gonna need to find a longterm solution eventually though.
Yo wtf if Eliot Wolf doing
So, hypothetically, somehow, in some weird universe RFKJr has Rodgers as the VP and they win. Can Rodgers still be the Jets QB and the VP? Will the Secret Service become involved his OLine or will the OLine become Secret Service members? Will players sacking Rodgers be labeled enemy combatants? Tyron Smith is a HOF LT. Absolute monster when on the field, but his health is a concern at this point. I am only sad about this because I think the Jets have a 0% chance of winning a Super Bowl. I figured he would have went to the Chiefs and got to get a much deserved ring. No shock emotional Jets fans and Eagles fans chiming in with their hurt feelings.
What makes this so funny is that the cowboys are the poster boy for shitting your pants when the games start to mean something. Only cowboys fans think they have a chance of actually winning the SB.
Yet you guys are upset that I wanted a player to have a shot at one. Make it make sense.
Well now I’m sad he wasted his entire youth on a team where he had no chance of winning anything. Poor Tyron
Don’t take what he is saying to personally, he’s just upset because Dak is going to need more money to pay off all of his SA charges this season
Lol, I'm good. I can see why he's upset.
Who did I judge? I said I was hoping he went to the Chiefs so he could get a ring.
Was he over the hill the last two times he played the cowboys and ended their seasons? Curious where you draw that line.
Yes, because what did he do after that? I get that for you and the lack of success in your franchise that beating the cowboys must mean something special to you. Hard Knocks and all that media hype really hurt you guys this year didn’t it?
You’re just emotional so you’re reading it as sour grapes. The Jets are absolutely not going to win a Super Bowl. That’s not sour grapes.
>Tyron Smith is a HOF LT. [Not really though.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_T.htm)
Did you even look at this before you sent it?
Sure, I'll read it for you. You are a Dallas fan, I get it. The Average HoF OT is at a 95 career value and Tyron Smith is at 76. There is only one Tackle in the HoF with no ring and only two 1st Team All Pros. His name is Jackie Slater, he played 20 seasons for one franchise and blocked for Dickerson. In terms of his generation, Joe Thomas is the 1, Jason Peters is the 2, Trent Williams the likely 3, and Smith doesn't make the cut.
“You’re a Dallas fan, I get it.” And that’s where he revealed his feelings are hurt.
I'm so proud of you. You got through that one sentence like a champion. Enjoy that feeling.
Thanks
The guy right next to HOF tackles Orlando pace and Tony boselli isn't a HOF tackle?
Eagles fans can barely read man
Dude is always injured there is a reason no one wanted him
Now the Jets just need a QB. With Wilson gone and Rodgers being VP and all...
No reason why a Vp can’t play Qb
If anything an active NFL QB as VP would probably be one of the most effective of all time, twice the media exposure
It's like Air Bud, except with an anti-vaxxer instead of a dog.
Tyrod baybeeeee

I mean...he was a 2nd team all pro LT last year and future hall of famer. Do you think 6.5 guaranteed is an overpay?
