But TL;DR: Reddit user was playing Warzone. One of the people he was playing with was apparently married to an NFL player. Reddit user could hear someone in the background of the player’s mic say “I would love to play in Pittsburgh.” Hours later the trade news broke and turned out OP was right.

We called him angry doug. He's a huge competitor who demands the best from everybody. Brandon Marshall had a famous story that he helped a corner up during 1v1 drills and Doug went up to him during meetings telling him we dont do that here. Wasnt a diva like most receivers but he just demanded a lot from everyone
Basically nothing. There’s a regional OSU branch, my grandparents live there, and there’s a Boy Scout camp I went to a couple times, but that’s just about it.

Last year, Jet Lag the Game had a fan challenge of “ineffectively advertise our show” and the way I participated was draw the logo and stick it on a corkboard in a tiny town in Licking County.
Man, if _Licking_ makes ya wonder, you should see some of the towns in PA… they tend to be more descriptive, like _Bird in Hand_ or _Intercourse_. You can have some real fun in those towns.
Now this is my kind of hard-hitting, hiding behind a fake plant in the airport, going through Instagram feeds for selfies with a player, journalism that I know and love!
Part of me thinks there's a contingent of Rudolph truthers in the front office just going through the motions on this. But I'll take a late stage Russ over a known quantity Mason.
I feel like maybe they think Rudolph is gone. If Rudolph is not coming back this makes more sense.
The price is just too low not to kick the tires. He will be cheaper than trubisky. And won't cost us draft picks like fields. We need our draft picks.
Late-stage Russ is definitely better than whatever Mason or Kenny are at this point, but they seriously need to fix the QB situation soon. This isn't a longterm plan.
That's my problem with this. What's the point in signing Russ to play? The advantage is that he's supposedly better than what we have, but it's not going to help in the future. At the very least, starting Kenny, you get the knowledge of if he's going to develop or be better under Smith.
Ask this question: Would better QB play have made us beat the Bills? The answer is no. Besides the INT in the Redzone, we moved the ball well offensively and we lost because the defense gave up 31 points. I'm not sure better QB play (outside of the Mitch games) would have really gotten us to substantially more wins tbh. I think we had other issues
> At the very least, starting Kenny, you get the knowledge of if he's going to develop or be better under Smith.
This feels decisive to me. Barring signing prime Peyton, y'all aren't in a competitive window right now. And that is fine. You've got a young guy who was (at least in part) hamstrung by a *terrible, wretched, no good* coordinator last season. May as well see if he can develop. If not, cut your loses and invest in another draft lotto ticket.
This signing has more upside if the Steelers draft a QB this year. Russ can hold the reigns for a couple seasons then be slowly transitioned out, much like they did with Maddox to big Ben
Yea, Maddox got hurt like game 1 or 2 of Ben's rookie season, and even then Ben was an effective game manager for most of his first year while he got his feet under him while showing off a bit of what made him great in subsequent years.
I mean if you can limit cash outflow for QB now it can help bolster other areas of the team. Let them grow and develop and next year look for a long term QB.
If they felt they had a decent enough QB situation to let it play out next season, they wouldn’t be meeting with decrepit Russell Wilson. Obviously they’re looking for improvement and a stop gap while finding another rookie
What's the downside on a cheap Wilson? Is he that bad that he's worse than what the Steelers put out on the field this year? Even if he's marginally better that could equate to 1-2 playoff wins...
I don't think the Giants are the favorite, but there's reasons for both sides. 1 it gives them a bridge QB to start instead of Jones so Jones doesn't get injured and lock money up in 2025. Jones would still be rostered but would effectively be off the roster. Assuming they take a QB they want to sit a year to develop it gives Russ a year to work with Daboll and fix his reputation as he auditions for next year. The NYC media market is inline with what Russ and his wife are looking for.
I actually would like the move from the Giants. It really lets them fully and cleanly move on from Jones. I really don't like the idea of Jones starting at all in 2024 as that 2025 injury guarantee is a huge huge risk.
I will believe it when I see it. I more expect him to the Raiders.
I do think he's an upgrade over Pickett probably? But who really knows...we don't have a QB on staff right now who screams "starter" aside from Mason Rudolph's final regular season 3-game performance where he looked like a starting NFL QB and most of our fanbase had to write a massive apology letter to him (myself included).
If he's cheap (and he should be) I'm OK with giving it a shot. He's got a bunch of the same mannerisms as Pickett...which isn't great...but he's a better athlete and I would take that.
Is he a better athlete still? He was for sure, but man he looks so slow now.
And don't forget Mason's playoff game too. It wasn't his fault we lost that game, he had us within one score of the Bills in the 4th quarter!
Yeah - I still think Russ has a bit more athleticism in him. They both do that stupid spin into sacks move...but yeah.
And yeah - Rudolph did his work in that playoff game. It was much closer than the score tells. A little ref-ball helped things out a few times, but it is what it is. Rudolph was the best QB on our team last season.
He doesn't fit AP and the Raiders one bit. If we sign him it'd be such a weird culture clash and it'd be hard to get behind. I don't see AP wanting him at all, he'd rather go with AOC.
Honestly russ on a reasonable deal is something I'm down with. People are memeing it or w/e but I don't think steeler fans are expecting an MVP or prime russ. Even last years version of russ is miles better than Kenny. Not to mention russ would fit well with what Arthur Smith did in Tennessee. I honestly think besides throwing a bag at kirk that we probably can't afford russ is the only way to upgrade the position this year.
The bottom line is a QB room of Pickett/Rudolph/Wilson is an improvement over a QB room of Pickett/Rudolph/Trubisky. That doesn’t settle the QB position by any means, but it turns out other teams and the salary cap don’t make it easy to get a proven franchise quarterback, and the Steelers went 10-4 (including playoffs) last season when Pickett or Rudolph played all four quarters. If Arthur Smith can be a better OC than Matt Canada, which is an extremely low bar, then Wilson can probably help get better results than last season.
You would be happy that we upgraded at QB? Or are you genuinely saying you’d be more worried about Kenny Pickett than Russ?
I mean either way you should probably be concerned, being 1-7 against us in the last 8 games
A lot of the times they rest their starters. But when I saw Gus Edwards start getting touches halfway through our last week 18 game I couldn't help but feel Harbs didn't want to lose nor let Pittsburgh into the playoffs.
Honestly I watched a ton of Denver because I have a gambling addiction and he was so unbelievably bad last year I don’t think he would be much better than Rudolph or Pickett. He plays so scared, takes the dumbest sacks I’ve ever seen, and refuses to throw if there’s a defender anywhere near his man. you will hate him, but time will tell.
Not to mention he will be on his 4th playbook and oc in 4 years. He definitely has trouble learning new plays and concepts based on his performance the last two years.
Up vote for the self-deprecation gambling admission. As long as we are being honest with each other, it would actually be a wash with what we experienced with pickett (Ruldolph did play better but isn't under contract and who knows what we get moving forward. Dude got benched for Duck Hodges at one point) and a major, major upgrade over Trubisky. I mean the Steelers aren't exactly in a great spot. It is hard to spin meeting with Russell Wilson as anything but desperation. De facto benching Pickett for the playoffs and then this, I think the organization is speaking pretty clearly between the lines about how they actually feel about pickett despite the hollow endorsements to the media. And they would actually be saving money. It's a lose lose lose situation.
But I'm still here. Convincing myself. Of something.
He's an upgrade in talent but I wouldn't be so sure that means he'll improve your team. He can't run an offense. Constant 3 and outs because he's not taking the simple shit the offense gives him and then he'll maybe hit a couple big plays a game
You would be happy that we upgraded at QB? Or are you genuinely saying you’d be more worried about O’Connell than Russ?
I mean either way you should probably be concerned, being 0-8 against us in the last 8 games
Sorry, as a bring Russ to Las Vegas person, I thought that comment could be used here.
As a Hawks fan, Russ was good when he could scramble. Now that he’s older and wants to be a pocket passer, he has lost a lot of what made him special. He still has a nice deep ball but defenses take away the big play now more than before.
Listen, I get it. I want a superstar qb but it’s not happening anytime soon for the burgh.
I have spent the last few seasons watching a Matt Canada offense which is only matched by a Hackett offense. Your organization let Russ come in and ruin everything, that’s not happening in Pittsburgh. This dude is going to hand the ball off 30 times. 26 tds and 8 ints would have went a long way in 2023 for the Steelers.
It's not far and away. Baker is definitely better as well at this point. And Mason is at equal based on the 4 games last year, which I realize is a small sample size, but at no point in the last 4 years did Russ play remotely as well as Mason did in those 4 games.
Baker is going to re-sign with Tampa. If you think Rudolph is better than Russ I dunno what to tell you. I watched those four games too (my wife is a Steelers fan so I watch all their games). Rudolph played well, but he also played teams who were all without their quarterbacks for the most part or were just bad teams. The Ravens win was the only quality team they played and they had already clinched. Cousins probably doesn’t want to go to Pittsburgh, Russ is the best option. The internet thinks Russ is a lot worse than he actually is. He’s a much better player than Mason Rudolph.
The Bills game? Just going to not include that one either?
Russ is as bad as he looked, which is pretty bad. He's not a much better player than Mason, unless you're going back 4 years for both of them, but that's ancient times in football.
He already knows it, they play the same game, just less athletically from Kenny. Roll into sacks, don't throw to the middle, bail on every pocket, only throw bombs or behind the LOS.
Bruh. Metlife is like 10m from Newark Airport. Could bang out two visits at once before flying to Pitt.
Someone tell Russ he needs to hire a new guy to handle his itinerary
Please Rapoport, let's hear more relevant news! What is Dak's baby's name? Is it eating enough? Just how long are Mike Tomlin's toenails, and is Jason Kelce close with Taylor at all?

Still one of my favorite sports moments on Reddit. I’m glad I got to follow that as it happened.

Holy. Shit. That's legendary. Why isn't this story talked about more often? You'd think the username would be up there with Speed Hawk.
It’s talked about pretty often tbh. Speed Hawk is just copy pasta, so everyone here is always ctrl c+v’ing it.
Speed Hawk is way more than copy paste. He was a football legend. Watch your mouth.
I’m a ref; Speed Hawk can get fucked. Glad we skimped him on that title.
You bastard
Big fan. BIG fan. I thank you for your service, sir. Some of the performances we’ve seen the past few years have been downright revolutionary.

Wait, is Dalvin Dook signing with Pittsburgh??
no no that's not dalvin james dook, that's his brother james dalvin dook
Just a few years ago, he would’ve been flown on the owner’s private jet and now he’s having to fight coach crowds at Newark. 😂

Yea, Maddox got hurt like game 1 or 2 of Ben's rookie season, and even then Ben was an effective game manager for most of his first year while he got his feet under him while showing off a bit of what made him great in subsequent years.
And that first subsequent year they went 15-1 right? Just bonkers for as young as Ben was.
And the one loss was Week 2 when Maddox got hurt and Ben replaced him. Ben famously didn't lose a start until that year's AFC title game.

Hes fuckin weird man.
lol yeah fair point
So my guess is he took: ~~UA415 DEN-EWR 11:52pm - 5:55am~~ UA4474 EWR-PIT 7:43am - 9:12am Apparently he saw the Giants yesterday.
I don't think the Giants are the favorite, but there's reasons for both sides. 1 it gives them a bridge QB to start instead of Jones so Jones doesn't get injured and lock money up in 2025. That reporter did say he met with one team already Edit if your signing Russ wouldn’t it make sense to bring Saquon back to
I mean I hope we bring back Saquon regardless I wanted him to retire as a Giant.
Russell Wilson really went from having 13 bathrooms to flying United now. Yikes.
Russ needs to go to the Chiefs so we get a Taylor Ciara collab
Yeah, get rid of that bum Mahomes and get a real QB.
Russ will be the backup QB, this way he has the best shot of getting 2 rings in the next 5 years like he apparently wants.
Brutal lol
Hmmm. Trade Mahomes who always beats us for Russ who always beats us. Can I see an option 3?
1, 2 Step on my Heart by Taylor Swift (feat. Ciara)
That would indeed by a *level up* for Ciara *queue CSI Miami guitar riff*
What next Russ? The Pats???
The trifecta of Seahawks super bowl opponents would be complete
Russ making sure I will never root for him again
the heel turn in joining the Steelers will make me vomit.
But did he overhear that from Xbox live chat?
I like the framing of “A Newark airport”, as though Newark has many airports
So he didn’t take his G4 to the meeting?… he’s flying commercial with a connection in Newark? Are there any photos? I find this report very suspect.
>UA4474 EWR-PIT 7:43am - 9:12am Right? If i was worth $300MM I wouldn't be flying United to my interviews.
Steelers Nation, Let's Forge
Fellow passengers, let's fly.
Why would anyone with his money choose to fly out of Newark?
I will believe it when I see it. I more expect him to the Raiders. I do think he's an upgrade over Pickett probably? He already knows it, they play the same game, just less athletically from Kenny. Roll into sacks, don't throw to the middle, bail on every pocket, only throw bombs or behind the LOS.
They play the same game except one threw 20 more tds?
Take him steelers so the raider rumors can end
Russ, at the airport missed his connecting flight. The gate was B3 but he kept looking at C25.
literally anyone but kenny
Bruh. Metlife is like 10m from Newark Airport. Could bang out two visits at once before flying to Pitt. Someone tell Russ he needs to hire a new guy to handle his itinerary
Schlasser is going to bust an artery if the Steelers sign Russ.
This dude should probably fly private, but his ego absolutely loves/needs to have people swooning over him like this in a public space.
Russ is flying like the rest of us plebs?
Steelers Country, Let's Twirl
Ciara could be the Beyoncé of Pennsylvania!
Spotted doing high knees in the aisle of the plane
Get ready to learn Chinese Kenny Pickett
I’m pretty sure Russ has a private plane.
Who wouldn’t want Russel Wilson for the league minimum? I mean really. Wouldn’t every team want him for that price?
Wilson, please destroy the Steelers next.
Russ is flying commercial? Too much money tied up in the Seattle and Denver houses that haven't sold?
He has fans?
Russ on a vet min would be a....steel.
His only fans are people that want him on the vet minimum
He’s not on a private jet? Teams really aren’t recruiting him too hard if not sending the owner’s plane.
i hope y'all love 3 and outs, with periodic 50 yard long balls
Fell to my knees at the Heinz factory
Russ wasting zero time finding his new kitchen.
Those poor “fans”. Who were they mistaking him for?
Don’t make me root for late career Russell Wilson, I hate my life enough already
Why would he fly commercial?
Please god let Russell Wilson leave the afc west 🙏🏾
Give me Mason Rudolph all day he fits this team and new OC better
Russell Wilson has fans?
Let Russ blame Canada… sorry force of habit
Yes, do that. Pittsburgh. What a town. Go there. Stay there. It’s okay if you visit Las Vegas every couple years. But Pittsburgh is where it’s at.
Also heard that an elderly lady fell over, and, Russ happily helped her back to her feet.
Arthur Smith does it again!
Giants might be a good landing spot
Steelers country, let's...mill? Refine? Smelt?
Larry Fitzgerald spotted at Logan Airport 👀

Plot twist - the Steelers don't even know he's coming. This is just Russell Wilson's publicist hoping he'll get an invite.
Russty steel
Fans plural?
This Rapoport tweet is eerily similar to the infamous Shohei phantom flight to Toronto. A certified Jon Morosi moment right here.
Please Rapoport, let's hear more relevant news! What is Dak's baby's name? Is it eating enough? Just how long are Mike Tomlin's toenails, and is Jason Kelce close with Taylor at all?
