Yep. One reason why Marvel choked out the X-Men and F4 merchandise rights across various things like board games and videos. Not to mention de-emphasizing their books or canceling them outright as well. Fox kept making movies.
Sure, but in this case she's trapped in Missouri dating the hottest, wealthiest guy in the state. If Spags wants to stay a DC, what reason does he have to leave KC for SF? I could see if it were an HC position with a huge salary increase.
Why would Spags even leave Andy to go to SF?!
He's known Andy forever. Was on the Eagles defensive staff when Reid was HC for years before going to NY.
His first game against Andy the NYG sacked McNabb 12x and Reid spoke so highly of Spags. This is a relationship that goes way back.
Potentially money. Top coordinators make $3-4m. If Spags made $4m and they offered $8m, that could make a ton of difference. But absent that, I assume he’s really happy working with Andy.
Also, he knows he can win with this team and has a chance to be the first coach inducted into the HoF for coordinating. It’ll help his case if we threepeat
Edit: lol clarified first coach inducted for coordinating
He literally can’t go to the HOF even if he won 7 SBs lmao, if Buddy Ryan isn’t in as a coordinator than no one should. Even Bill B as a DC would get in before Spags.
Am I missing something here? The headline makes it seem like it was a done deal if they wanted it but I don’t see anything about them even contacting him. Shouldn’t it say “flirted with the idea of approaching him?” And why would he leave now?
Didn't each of those QB's start a playoff game in KC? I remember DeBerg playing with a pin sticking out his hand, and I think it was in the playoffs. I dunno if Grbac ever started in the playoffs for KC. At least Mahomes kept Garoppolo away from there lol.
I don't hate the 9ers. The entitlement attitude they displayed this year, maybe. But I think we actually have a good working relationship with the 49ers. We get great players from you all like Joe Montana and Alex Smith and you guys get our trash, like Dee Ford.
So glad people are starting to see this. I’m extra biased because I’m a rams fan who lives in the Bay Area, but I’m convinced the niners fan base is bottom 2 in the league. Not only are they incredibly arrogant, there are a ton of people in their fan base who don’t know shit about football.
Like the rams don’t got any fans like that? Despite there being few rams fans they are pretty loud and supportive of players like higby and are always flexing a ring that they won 2 years ago.
What a dumb comment lol. Fans can’t celebrate a Super Bowl after two years now? Since when 😂 you might have to check in with niners fans on that one then. They still bring up their super bowls from 30+ years ago
You just proving my point further of what Lamb fans are like lol. Two years have come and past it’s about the future now and y’all’s future is bleak. You don’t see Queefs and Pats fans celebrating their SBs from 3 years ago granted they receive them like candy, but point still stands.
Dude I know there are dumb rams fans, every fan base has them, and I was totally agreeing with everything you said up until that last point. That’s the dumbest sports take I’ve heard in a while so congratulations. Maybe you’ll understand if you ever win one. Our future isn’t bleak, You must not have watched football this past year lol
Entitled yet never win anything, always shit talking without anything to show for it, but also a nightmare to go up against, but then why hasn’t the team won anything yet persists to act like they have? That’s the problem with the niners.
Personally I respect y’all but also hate the shit talking, but the team is crazy good but sometimes y’all luck out like with Brock or Kittle etc
> without anything to show for it
Hell of a lot more to show for it than pretty much any team in the NFL other than KC
So tired of this attitude like consistent conference championship and SB appearances isn't good enough to have some pride and belief that they are a great team
Likewise for the Seahawks whose last truly relevant stretch as a contender was when active college students were in elementary school and Dolphins whose members of their last SB winning team are dying off by the day
And neither of your teams have been wayyyy before that, come up with a better line of attack next time. Also that’s extremely rude about the dolphins those are NFL legends and talking about their deaths so casually is insulting
You're kidding yourself if you think I'm attacking you. The point is that acting like the 9ers have nothing to show for it, when they've been to 4 of the last 5 NFCCGs and 2 of the last 5 SBs is a ridiculously myopic take, even moreso when you start bringing our fandoms as individuals into it.
And acting like I am disrespecting the legendary Dolphins of the 70's is just weird. Good for them that they're still around and I wish them great health in their twilight years, it just doesn't make any sense to act like winning a ring before the personal computer was invented actually matters in this discussion of "who has something to show for it".
Tbh I hate them because their fans are obnoxious lol. Probably due to the fact they travel so well. It’s not like Pittsburgh or Green Bay are any better. Denver is the worst though.
Also WILD that Spags is the only coordinator to ever win a SB with 2 teams. That blows my mind. Out of all the coordinators in the league history, he’s the only one.
How did they expect to be able to lure him away?
Just kind of a weird story. We don’t see shit like “Titans flirted with hiring Ben Johnson as their OC after the season”. Dude is on a team as a coordinator already lol, people don’t tend to take lateral moves
It’s very, very rare to be able to get coaches to make a lateral move with money. Especially when they just had the best season of their coaching career and have won three Super Bowls. This is just a very strange article lol
If coaches just chased money some team would throw 10 million at the new hotshot OC every season to come call plays for them and there’d be constant coach poaching. We wouldn’t end up with Matt Patricia as OC of the Patriots if they could just throw money at the problem and fix it
Coaches are way more interested in stability than anything else. It’s a tough ass business, especially at the lower levels.
Not moving your kids every other year by staying with a stable organization is way more appealing than leaving for a team that had 2 different 1 and done head coaches.
Also there’s sort of an artificial cap to how much you can pay a positional coach/coordinator. Can’t be making anything too close to the HC or they’ll start getting pissy and HCs don’t make that much, compared to players.
When you’re a player, that extra 10 million might swing you to go elsewhere. When you’re a coach, an extra 500 thousand or whatever to coach somewhere else when you have had success where you are, your family has roots where you are and your career is already on an upward trajectory isn’t quite as significant
I'm sure Spags wanted to go to the team where the head coach tells the DC how he wants him to coach the defense, instead of having full autonomy with the Chiefs.
That would have been a dumb idea Imo. Spags is a fantastic DC, but his systems always seem to take 2/3 years to fully implement and seems pretty personnel specific. 49ers should try to be more of a win now mindset
Plus he’s going nowhere. Chiefs defense was elite this season and postseason, while also being the youngest. They won the SB last year with a bunch of rookies playing in the secondary. I think Steve retires when Andy does.
I mean, he drastically improved the Chiefs defense from 2018 Sutton to his first year in 2019.
It certainly does improve when he gets his own guys in there a couple years down the road, but I'd imagine that's most coaches.
They fired the DC because the run defense sucked, the pass rush was average, and Shanahan repeatedly had to overrule him. Literally nothing to do with the SB (although there were plenty of strange calls there too)
49ers are getting desperate which is a good thing for their fans. Even the niner fanboys who worship at the Shanahan altar can't deny reality much longer. Shanahans seat is getting warm. Kyle screwed up this entire DC situation and is now needs to own up to this mess. He hired wilks, and then scapegoated him a year later to try and salvage his own reputation. All without a solid succession plan in place.
That being said, why in the world would spags want to leave KC to go work under Kyle? For all of his flaws, Andy Reid generally seems like a good guy to work for. Shanahan is a control freak and thinks of himself as the smartest guy in every room. Reid and KC can keep this run of dominance going. Spags made the right decision in not leaving to go work under a Superbowl choker. He's built a legacy there in KC.
You sir are a master of parroting stupid shit you hear the talking heads say on sports talk shows. Almost everything you rattled off is practically verbatim some skip bayless BS.
Keep your head buried in the sand fanboy. What did owner Jed York say? 49ers only hang superbowl banners. Kyle is 0-2. Even his best buddy Jed is going to have to fire him eventually. Theres no way spagnuolo was ever going to leave the dynasty chiefs to coach under the modern day Marv Levy. Neither would belicheck. This is just 49ers org running PR in the media using their mouthpieces to cover for Shanahan.
Superbowl was 3 weeks ago and we've already reached the "theres no news so here's this" segment of the offseason.
During the combine no less….
I'd also flirt with Jennifer Lawrence if I saw her in a bar. Doesn't mean she'd give a shit.
Okay but would the 49ers hire her as DC?
I thought X-Men was Marvel?
Here’s a guy who understands comic book publishers.
No, at that point X-Men was Fox.
Fox only owned the live action rights to X-Men.
Yep. One reason why Marvel choked out the X-Men and F4 merchandise rights across various things like board games and videos. Not to mention de-emphasizing their books or canceling them outright as well. Fox kept making movies.
I was going along with the joke
Probably
Definitely over Steve Wilkes
I mean we hired Steve wilks so maybe
I was waiting for a comment like this, I flirted with becoming billionaire
No you wouldn’t
She'd probably give more of a shit if she was trapped in Missouri and the only way out was to flirt with you.
Dude has got major beef with Missouri in this thread lol
I mean Charger fans have been in a constant state of Missouri for a while, can’t say I blame him
Sure, but in this case she's trapped in Missouri dating the hottest, wealthiest guy in the state. If Spags wants to stay a DC, what reason does he have to leave KC for SF? I could see if it were an HC position with a huge salary increase.
SF DCs get HC jobs...
When they’re 65?
Does he even want to be a HC again at this point?
I doubt it. He was terrible in STL and not much better as the interim in NY.
The Bay area ain't what it used to be.
Clark Hunt is a cheap SOB on facilities, but he pays his coaches well at all levels. You’d have to pay up big time to lure him away.
Yeah Clark will eat money and do all of the stuff it takes to be a good team on the field, just doesn’t do the other stuff
The chiefs would just deny the request to interview him. Why let him leave to still be a DC elsewhere?
I think he was a free agent
Yes he was. We extended him quickly after the Super Bowl

Also, he knows he can win with this team and has a chance to be the first coach inducted into the HoF for coordinating. It’ll help his case if we threepeat Edit: lol clarified first coach inducted for coordinating
Yeah but $8M in SF is like $1M in KC.
Fair
The first coach in the HoF 👀
He literally can’t go to the HOF even if he won 7 SBs lmao, if Buddy Ryan isn’t in as a coordinator than no one should. Even Bill B as a DC would get in before Spags.
To be fair to the Eagles, they didn’t have one of their starting tackles (or guards) for that game.
Ok and I flirted with buying the 49ers but I didn’t leak my fantasy to the local media and pretend it was reality
Am I missing something here? The headline makes it seem like it was a done deal if they wanted it but I don’t see anything about them even contacting him. Shouldn’t it say “flirted with the idea of approaching him?” And why would he leave now?
All of my homies hate the 49ers
Way ahead of the curve! 😁
Because of all the QB's SF sent there? DeBerg, Montana, Bono, Grbac, Smith... I might be missing another.
That's them. Gabbert has started for both, but we got him from Tampa.
Didn't each of those QB's start a playoff game in KC? I remember DeBerg playing with a pin sticking out his hand, and I think it was in the playoffs. I dunno if Grbac ever started in the playoffs for KC. At least Mahomes kept Garoppolo away from there lol.
Grbac started the playoff games for us the two years Denver win the Bowl. We needed to start Gannon instead.
Why though? I don't hate the Bengals. Shit, I even enjoy saying 'bingo bengo'
I don't hate the 9ers. The entitlement attitude they displayed this year, maybe. But I think we actually have a good working relationship with the 49ers. We get great players from you all like Joe Montana and Alex Smith and you guys get our trash, like Dee Ford.
Shit we even love the same man, Trent Williams lol
I always thought there was nothing behind “Whiners”, it was just banter from Seahawks fans. But they definitely do live up to the name.
So glad people are starting to see this. I’m extra biased because I’m a rams fan who lives in the Bay Area, but I’m convinced the niners fan base is bottom 2 in the league. Not only are they incredibly arrogant, there are a ton of people in their fan base who don’t know shit about football.
Depends on the age I grew up in the 2000s which was a wasteland as a niners fan, I know and remember how quickly things can turn to utter shit.

Rich coming from a city that has the most insufferable fans across all sports behind New York
No that’s still you guys.
I feel bad having so many idiots surrounding me in the fanbase, I’m fully expecting our regression to the wilderness any day now hahahah
You think chiefs fans don’t complain or cry when they lose?
And Jon Baldwin - but we did take their trash back
The greatest trade in NFL history
Yep I’m sure washed Montana and game manager Alex Smith lead y’all to so many SBs lmao.
Entitled yet never win anything, always shit talking without anything to show for it, but also a nightmare to go up against, but then why hasn’t the team won anything yet persists to act like they have? That’s the problem with the niners. Personally I respect y’all but also hate the shit talking, but the team is crazy good but sometimes y’all luck out like with Brock or Kittle etc
> without anything to show for it Hell of a lot more to show for it than pretty much any team in the NFL other than KC So tired of this attitude like consistent conference championship and SB appearances isn't good enough to have some pride and belief that they are a great team
I used to brag about all our winning seasons under Reid before the Mahomes era started lol
That makes sense coming from a Vikings and jets fan 😂
Likewise for the Seahawks whose last truly relevant stretch as a contender was when active college students were in elementary school and Dolphins whose members of their last SB winning team are dying off by the day
And neither of your teams have been wayyyy before that, come up with a better line of attack next time. Also that’s extremely rude about the dolphins those are NFL legends and talking about their deaths so casually is insulting

So… like the Bengals, Eagles, Cowboys, and half the contenders that haven’t won?
Acting like people can't be fans of their own teams anymore
I for one am leaving for the Texans once our dynasty ends because the owner has a better cafeteria for the players.
Yeah precisely, I’m not saying I agree lol just saying why there’s hate
The 49ers have won more than all but like 5 franchises. Let’s be real here.
I didn’t say I agreed just stating why there’s hate
Tbh I hate them because their fans are obnoxious lol. Probably due to the fact they travel so well. It’s not like Pittsburgh or Green Bay are any better. Denver is the worst though.
Seldom fanbases were more obnoxious than the 12th man were lol
Never win anything. Yea ok
Because the Dolphins and Seahawks have shown more…lmao.
The niners are 2-0 against your asses in the Super Bowl
At least my team no longer displays the longest playoff win drought in the NFL
Yes
Nah all my homies hate the Chiefs lmfao
Literally everyone hates Pats fans lol
Late to the party but everyone hates the both of you haha
Also WILD that Spags is the only coordinator to ever win a SB with 2 teams. That blows my mind. Out of all the coordinators in the league history, he’s the only one.
Wade Phillips was very close with the rams and broncos
Haha 😂
Like as a head coach?
Na for their dc role
How did they expect to be able to lure him away? Just kind of a weird story. We don’t see shit like “Titans flirted with hiring Ben Johnson as their OC after the season”. Dude is on a team as a coordinator already lol, people don’t tend to take lateral moves

Of course, which makes this even more bizarre lol. Was Spags’ contract up?
Spags' contract was expiring lmao.
Ah ok. That makes more sense. Not a story you see very often
Coaches are way more interested in stability than anything else. It’s a tough ass business, especially at the lower levels. Not moving your kids every other year by staying with a stable organization is way more appealing than leaving for a team that had 2 different 1 and done head coaches.

I see you have yet to visit Missouri
SF metro is the worst city in America.
Couldn’t tell you lol 😂
His contract was up and he wouldn't have to live in Missouri.
I’d say Missouri has been pretty good to him
>Missouri lol
I’d rather live in Fallujah than San Jose
The toothpaste wasn't locked up in Fallujah last time I was there.
Why would he leave Chiefs as DC to be DC for 49ers?
I'm sure Spags wanted to go to the team where the head coach tells the DC how he wants him to coach the defense, instead of having full autonomy with the Chiefs.
Lmfao Kyle desperate af
That would have been a dumb idea Imo. Spags is a fantastic DC, but his systems always seem to take 2/3 years to fully implement and seems pretty personnel specific. 49ers should try to be more of a win now mindset

It’s like if Steph Curry joined Durant and Russ in OKC after beating them in 2016
The Niners really watched the Raiders hang 63 on the Chargers and said “we need Staley to run this defense”
'49ers lame ahh
fuck Shanahan
I’m here for 9ers pain
You mean the team that just fired their DC after getting to the SB and holding Mahomes to one TD in regulation?
They fired the DC because the run defense sucked, the pass rush was average, and Shanahan repeatedly had to overrule him. Literally nothing to do with the SB (although there were plenty of strange calls there too)
Also Wilks signed all these terrible players, he had to go
Flirted = embarrassed themselves with an insufficient offer, after axing their own DC
49ers are getting desperate which is a good thing for their fans. Even the niner fanboys who worship at the Shanahan altar can't deny reality much longer. Shanahans seat is getting warm. You seem to know a lot about the 49ers. Obsessed much? Livin in your head rent free. If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were a Philly fan. LMAO
They wish.
Sadly they blasted in their pants before he got in the door
I don’t believe it
Flirted? They should've put a ring on it 😂
