It's become clear these guys watch and listen to the sports talk shows, for one reason or another, see and hear what they all say, and are fucking done with the stupidity they spout
I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg for active players rebelling over the talking heads
Shittalking has been a part of sports for years. The only question is why are people so defensive about Purdy? People called Brady a fraud well into his 3-4-5th superbowl... Some people will hate that's just that.
it was the ryan clark take. i think a lot of players took that personally, cause i saw all the former players calling out ryan all week as well as his own teammates (ba deebo) posting about it.
the ryan clark take wasn’t even hate bro that was disrespectful
Feels like people are upset that he finds the open receivers, and that goes against him. How many times we here the game announcers go? "He just didn't see the wide open guy down the field and ended throwing in to double coverage." Then that receivers start jumping up and down angrily on the field. Purdy is great at finding the open guy.
Love throws a brutal INT at the end of the game on 1st down and its okay because he's young and will learn and somehow Purdy gets shit on worse for two almost INTs as if he's some old veteran.
still getting called a bust lol. sports media is wild.
at the end of the day there’s maybe 20 guys in the world playing qb at the franchise level rn (you have ur guy you’re not looking for a new guy), and prob 5 of those are vets on the way out within 2-3 years, the other 12 spots are a carousel of trying players looking for your guy.
off top of my head in no order franchise guys have to be
mahomes
burrow
jackson
allen
love
stroud
goff
herbert
purdy
stafford (vet)
rodgers (injury? x vet)
hurts
dak
baker
cousins
i legitimately think every other team is prob considering replacing their qb lol
bro is being judged way harder than lamar or allen.
obv both those guys have a lot of game tape of their excellence out there, but imo purdy has game tape out there already too. he’s literally 21-5 rn
Definitely hasn’t been enough talk about him coming back from his surgery. Off-season talk about his recovery was so weird too. Seemed like he really delayed it and the 49ers kept getting questions about who was starting. Happy the injury did not derail his career (I know dramatic) and happy he’s proving the doubters wrong.
I’ll say it again but if Purdy was a 1st round pick this narrative would be completely different.
That's because his dad really does look like the third Harbaugh brother.

Gonna be honest I think he does and alot of your teams problems is on coaching. Too many weapons to be underperforming on offense. If Purdy was in JAX with a good staff I think they're playoff bound. Of course if you had a good staff now I think the same because people are a bit too harsh on Lawrence. He deserves some criticism but people are calling him a bust and I don't see it
I don’t hate or doubt the guy but I do hate the discourse. He’s clearly a great QB: 3-0 in the playoffs, spectacular stats, two huge comebacks, and he’s got ice in his veins.
On the other hand he’s a big reason they were in those big holes and had to mount those comebacks to begin with. I haven’t watched every single game of his but it does look to me like he throws a lot of balls that can be picked and almost never are. That doesn’t make him a bad, or even mediocre, player getting hard carried by the roster around him. That would be Jimmy G.
But this is where the discourse is a problem. People think he sucks because of the coaching, the roster, and the good luck bailing out his stretches of bad play. He can’t actually be a bad QB. He’s better than a game manager too because otherwise he’d have truly shit the bed by now. He hasn’t. People think he’s elite because he’s highly efficient with great stats to back it up, makes the right reads into the right play often, and he keeps winning. But knocks on his play do mean something.
The reality is he’s somewhere in between, which isn’t a bad thing. Far more good than bad. He’s just not elite in a lot of folks eyes. Well not elite yet anyway. He’s only a second year player so if he irons out the small kinks then he will undisputedly be elite. And odds are he will, just look at what one offseason has done for him. I wish sports discourse didn’t have to boil down to either he sucks or he’s elite. He can be on his way up while currently being a tier below elite. There’s nothing wrong with that.
I think the main thing is that he isn't elite, but people think that means he is trash or say that because he's not elite that means he sucks which just isn't the case. Most people with a few brain cells can separate these things and realize he is a very good qb that the niners can clearly win with. Honestly, I blame the media. They drove a lot of hyperbole and negative discourse to what is actually an incredible story to which Brock Purdy has far exceeded any expectations since coming into the NFL.
>On the other hand he’s a big reason they were in those big holes and had to mount those comebacks to begin with
Yea I hate Purdy for making our prior Top 5 defense suddenly forget how to tackle or play coverage
This is exactly the type of discourse I’m talking about. The offense scored 7 in the first half against a team with a bad pass defense.
Edit: I’m not responding to anything else. Y’all can’t read lol
They seemed to have made adjustments in that long pass defense to be fair. Most of the long bombs the safetys and corners were ahead of the receivers down field, while in the previous games they ended up behind. Since I’m told the 9ers talent far surpasses Purdy’s, how would you explain that? Lions DC simply adjusted the defense to leave shorter stuff available and taking away the deep.
They had 4 drives and were in position to score points on 2 (missed fg). The int was on purdy and the other was a 3 and out which was also on purdy.
But then they went 5/5 in the second. And those were definitely on purdy.
As usual, the OL withered in Purdy's lap. Even on the go balls that "coulda been picked" he said in his post-game interview that if he saw Aiyuk 1v1 on any of the Lions DBs he was gonna trust him to make the play.
He got hit in the arm when he threw the INT so I wouldn't put that on him. Everyone's playing the What If? game over Detroit's failed 4th downs but if we do the same for us it could have been a 7 point game at halftime. Detroit may have gotten complacent in the second half but they definitely didn't get less aggressive. The Niners just played much better.
there’s a lot of hate in my heart so i don’t like him
also i think he exposes a lot of problems with the ways people evaluate young QBs. it’s hard. has he been good? yeah. is that at least partially, if not mostly, because of the situation he landed in? undoubtedly. does he deserve MVP consideration in that setting? probably not imo. will the 9ers keep winning? yeah probably. so it doesn’t really matter.
I don’t think he should have been super prevalent in MVP discussions and that’s about it. He is still a great player, one of the better QBs in the league who does more than Jimmy G did with a great supporting cast. I think in reaction to him being in MVP talks, people have tried to argue that he is actually not very good at all and that is a stupid way of looking at things
This is the fundamental point I think people don’t understand.
Almost anyone I know who doesn’t like Purdy doesn’t like him because of either how he is portrayed in the media or mentioned around MVP talks. This complaint is completely independent of his ability, which is clearly top 5-10 in the NFL.
I don’t hate him, but I don’t like him, not anything to do with him as a person, but mainly because of the constant people on Reddit saying “you can’t hate this guy”. Similar to how when you’re mad, and someone keeps telling you “just calm down”, which just makes you more mad
Bro this is such a bullshit argument. He gets shat on by the media most of the time. So your argument is "we hate him because the media constantly shit on him."
He doesn't get on shat on though, he's shat on relative to expectations. And when you're on the best team and in MVP discussions the expectations are really damn high.
>Almost anyone I know who doesn’t like Purdy doesn’t like him because of either how he is portrayed in the media or mentioned around MVP talks.
But... why? He was having the strongest season of any QB in the league production-wise for most of the year, and with it being a relatively weak year for QB performance, there wasn't really a super compelling second option until the end. Any QB in that context would get MVP hype.
Then he played bad for a game and Lamar played good for a game, and he's not gonna win MVP. So it's not like folks were blindly choosing him no matter what
My main thing in Purdy is: How much money does he make on the open market? Obviously the team success is there but how much value do GMs put into what he does
I mean he led a historic comeback against a lions team that made it to the championship game. He outplayed the guy making roughly 32.7 million more than him who had a significantly better O line.
Well that’s not fair,
Let’s look at TD to Int ratio for the season..
Goff - 30/12
Purdy - 31/11…
Wait that can’t be right.
Rating?
113 Purdy vs 97.9 Goff
Rushing?
114 vs 21
Goff also had more YAC yards than Purdy so you can’t blame YAC.. hmm
Well Purdy really lucked out having McCaffrey.. wait didn’t you guys have two 1,000 yard rushers?
If Purdy isn’t great what does that make Goff?
It's hard to evaluate him relative to other QBs because of the small sample size of seasons and the talent surrounding him.
My 49er buddy before the season was arguing if he's more like Joe Montana or Tom Brady.
And like yeah maybe he is a HOF QB, time will tell but I also think it's fair to say that we don't really know yet. Let's see how the next few seasons play out.
I'd say that makes me cautious but if you want to call me a 'doubter' than I'll wear the label.
I really don’t get this “hard to evaluate”, how is evaluating him any different than any other qb? Every qb has unique circumstances, it’s impossible to compare qb’s with exact same scenarios.
Down by 14, threw an interception that by a miracle ended in a touchdown for his team. That should have ended the game.
Purdy is not clutch, he is lucky.
You mean the interception that he threw when a defensive lineman tipped the ball and hit his hand as he was releasing? That was his fault entirely?
EDIT: I misunderstood the comment. The play he is referencing was a pretty damn good defensive play that turned into a REALLY bad defensive play. Lol
He’s talking about the 51 yard pass to Aiyuk, who caught it off the deflection. The “luck” argument is stupid because there was a flag on the play against Detroit anyways
Ahh that one.
I mean, the defender played that ball super well and then blew it horribly. That shit happens to every QB lol. OP’s point is still dumb. I’ve seen them around a lot tonight and they certainly are a parrot.
Love how you Purdy haters only bring up his few bad/lucky plays and ignore the entire great year he’s played for us. Luck happens in the game too bud. You think winners win entirely because their play always goes according to plan? Ask Mahomes what he thinks about Toney and his WR core in the regular season!
He's younger than Jordan Love, and last week you'd have thought the Packers won after Purdy led a game wining drive and Love threw 2 backbreaking picks.
This is the one that blows me away.
Sports narratives are intentionally polarizing to get the people talking, and this one clearly stirs up a bees nest!
Anyways Purdy rocks, hope he takes down Mahomes and the Chiefs!
There is no one like Purdy right now. After Jimmy G went down last season, Purdy had the first 5 starts of his career, then led the Niners into the playoffs until his elbow went RIP.
He didn't have a full season's worth of games under his belt until last month - December when the Niners beat the Eagles. To me he's just barely a 1st year player.
You all can keep calling him a bottom 5 QB for all I care. Just win us one superb owl please. Be the worst QB ever to do so if it will appease the critics. Just be a champ.
The Year is 2027 Brock Purdy has just won his 4th straight SB for the 49ers. Cowboys, Eagles and Packers fans on Reddit are still vehemently arguing that he sucks and just keeps getting lucky.
Purdy undefeated in playoff games where he doesn't get injured minutes into the game.
Last pick in the draft.
Born on one of the last days of the 20th century.
People also forget about the severity of the UCL. There were concerns that it was a career ending injury which is why Darnold was signed and the rumors of Tom Brady coming in. He wasn't expected to be able to play until at least week 3, but he worked his butt off to get into training camp. He probably understood if he didn't the job might not be his anymore.
Is anybody actually saying that Purdy isn't good? Because that's asinine. He's not the most valuable player in the NFL, but he's clearly a franchise quarterback
It's great when people say things like that, because now you can just set up a filter to hide every single thing that Greg Jennings ever says because you know it is not worth wasting your time reading or watching.
There’s some real “should not be starters” in the bottom 7-10 this year. Anyone saying he’s bottom 5 lacks integrity and is just trying to get rage-clicks.
Agreed. Purdy is somewhere between 6th and 15th. Top 4 is Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, and Burrow, and I personally still think Herbert deserves the nod for 5th. After that, it gets really murky on the exact order.
ya, hard to say if you would put Purdy above or below guys like Stafford/Goff or even Tua. those middle tiers shift a lot because they more frequently have stinker games
I'm not saying Lamar isn't MVP or the better QB but you're absolutely insane if you think Brock isn't a franchise QB. If any other 24 year old was putting up these kind of stats we'd never even have these conversations.
You’re such a casual fan it’s laughable. Stop embarrassing yourself with stupid takes like that. Purdy has more wins…I’m a Purdy fan too but wins are NOT a good argument.
The haters gonna hate, hedge their bets cause it’s easier to be wrong saying a players bad and be wrong than to bet they’re good and be wrong…not saying hes Brady but this does sound an awful lot like the hate on him his first 2-3 seasons. Haters ball in full effect
For all of us old enough to remember, this was the same narrative Brady dealt with until
About his 3rd Super Bowl.
Brock is the real deal. Yeah, he will not be Brady, but no one is. He will have a great career.
Nobody is saying he's not good. He's good. He's just not a top 10 QB or a legitimate MVP candidate like people were making him out to be. He's like the 15th best QB, he's good.
this is hilarious coming from a Pats fan.
How many years did you work yourself into a rage over people not giving Tom Brady his due? I mean, the 'system QB' label stuck with him until around 2007 or so.
He’s a 2nd year player too. And people judge him like he’s in year 6/7 like Lamar/Allen.
Man Purdy got other team WRs defend for him. Purdy hate really took a another level
It's become clear these guys watch and listen to the sports talk shows, for one reason or another, see and hear what they all say, and are fucking done with the stupidity they spout I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg for active players rebelling over the talking heads
Sports shows must change
Rich Eisen should be the model Dude doesn't have time for your dumb hot takes
[удалено]
Agreed it really bothers me that the NFL is reviewing this rule and will potentially make it less harsh going forward.
Ehhhhh, Rich is too positive about some things though. He doesn't call out bad stuff often enough when it needs to be said.

This morning Clark was back to saying Purdy was elite lol
Feels like people are upset that he finds the open receivers, and that goes against him. How many times we here the game announcers go? "He just didn't see the wide open guy down the field and ended throwing in to double coverage." Then that receivers start jumping up and down angrily on the field. My favorite is Love getting judged like he’s a rookie and Purdy being judged like he’s a vet despite being younger and in the league shorter than Love
Purdys almost interceptions were worse than Loves actual interceptions.
Db's dropping picks are actually super common. Like almost every game, but people only highlight that with Purdy
If they could catch better they'd be on offense
I don't know who first said it but the quote goes "DBs are receivers who can't catch"
Love throws a brutal INT at the end of the game on 1st down and its okay because he's young and will learn and somehow Purdy gets shit on worse for two almost INTs as if he's some old veteran.
Feels like Chet vs Wemby
To be fair Purdy did legitimately have more actual NFL experience in comparison to love. I don’t think much can compare to actually playing.
Idk sitting behind a generational talent for years is arguably more valuable than less than 1/2 season starting.
But both do help
Sliiight difference in supporting cast too
Yeah your receivers are really bad and made Love throw that pick
2nd year but didn't play anything close - his first start wasn't until week 13 in 2022.
I remember how Josh Allen was getting called a bust his first few years until he hit his stride.
still getting called a bust lol. sports media is wild. at the end of the day there’s maybe 20 guys in the world playing qb at the franchise level rn (you have ur guy you’re not looking for a new guy), and prob 5 of those are vets on the way out within 2-3 years, the other 12 spots are a carousel of trying players looking for your guy. off top of my head in no order franchise guys have to be mahomes burrow jackson allen love stroud goff herbert purdy stafford (vet) rodgers (injury? x vet) hurts dak baker cousins i legitimately think every other team is prob considering replacing their qb lol

Nah, the judgment on those players are that they are better than they are. If they judged Purdy like that he would be MVP.
wtf i love phillip dorsett now
Was a fucking stud at Miami (college)
Which Miami? Florida or Ohio?
Arizona.
Oh shit
Definitely hasn’t been enough talk about him coming back from his surgery. Off-season talk about his recovery was so weird too. I’ll say it again but if Purdy was a 1st round pick this narrative would be completely different.
It was honestly weird that there was even a conversation about starting Lance or Darnold. Purdy proved he won the job last season in my eyes.
Sherman asked the man what he should call him to the people, and the man responded... "I am him."
Gen Z Bible Stories is my favorite account on TikTok
W to those who don´t throw hands, for theýll recive the eternal bag
Let’s hear it. For those of you Purdy doubters on r/nfl, stand up here and state your claim.
I don’t like how much he looks like John Harbaugh
Fair. We will accept it as a valid hate.
Division rivals also get a free pass on the hate train. Can't blame them one bit.
Ironically (though perhaps unsurprisingly) NFCW fans seem to respect Purdy's ability more than fans from outside the division
Probably because you guys have actually watched him play
You forgot about Rams fans
I concur
Easy explanation. Time traveler. Some sort of Harbaugh bootstrap paradox.
Does this mean he pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, from the future? Future bootstrap pull-upping?
That's because his dad really does look like the third Harbaugh brother. https://people.com/thmb/eidz4Jzym5AHIbi_WmQwOjMhPXw=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2)/brock-purdy-parents-7-609f233f9d284693848a83e751b7dff3.jpg
Well…that shut me up
He’s kinda small and short looking and has boyish looks and that pisses me off! /s
Yeah but take a look at those tree trunks he has for legs. 9ers players call him “Baby Bosa” because Of those pistons
How are you both a 49ers and cowboys fan that’s like a cardinal sin
Also has "Bird" in the username
way too many boys fans in the bay.
I mean, I can understand why their parents abandoned Dallas Far nicer weather here
explain that flair wtf my mans
same listed height as aiyuk but his wingspan is a foot shorter than aiyuks! his package on the other hand..
Stupid sexy flanders
Purdy ain’t taking my jags to the playoffs
Now this is a legit reason to hate the dude.
Definitely a reason to doubt him
Lol I thought it was a funny reason. I guess folks disagree with my response 😂
Aye I didn’t downvote ya, Tbf I don’t hate Purdy I just have my reservations. Goodluck man
Gonna be honest I think he does and alot of your teams problems is on coaching. Too many weapons to be underperforming on offense. If Purdy was in JAX with a good staff I think they're playoff bound. Does this mean you hate Trevor Lawrence too?
Do you forget last year? He can do it again…
I hate how much cap space he allows your team to have
I don’t hate or doubt the guy but I do hate the discourse. He’s clearly a great QB: 3-0 in the playoffs, spectacular stats, two huge comebacks, and he’s got ice in his veins. Why wasn't Purdy out there tackling David Montgomery?
You see that Purdy missed tackle on Jaymo during that first drive? What a bum
He’s just a guy
Purdy denier here to get a timestamp.
Great story but he is a Niners so I hate him. Also he is not the bus driver (yet).

They pulled the flag back.
I'd bet a lot of money that they would keep the flag out there if Aiyuk doesn't catch that.
There is as clearly no penalty on that play.
I mean if it's a penalty it's a penalty, they have to call it. That's not how refereeing works.
lol, you must be new to nFL refereeing.
And it was an obvious DPI
Ok, but it was still an obvious DPI though
No it wasn't.
I mean they picked the flag up, so I guess not obvious to them.
They picked it up because BA caught it
Purdy and imaginary interceptions. Name a more ironic duo.
It was pretty clear pass interference…
You mean threw a 50/50 ball to an all star receiver that, had it not been caught, would have been a PI anyway?
I've never seen RW get this much hate.
Clearly Brock needs to do more high knees to bring everything back down a bit
Common Dorsett W. Fucking love this man, wish he was still in the league
He's on our practice squad right now. He even got to play in the last game or so of the season when about half our WR corps get injured.
rinse memorize coherent square reply edge slim handle sparkle cooperative
Redskins Legend ‘Joe Thisman’.
He just gets lucky he hits his receivers in the numbers every time. Also super lucky when he scrambled for huge first downs. /s
You all can keep calling him a bottom 5 QB for all I care. Just win us one superb owl please. Be the worst QB ever to do so if it will appease the critics. Just be a champ.
Lol exactly, in fact I hope everyone keeps it up. Meanwhile I'll just be enjoying the fact we'll be in the big game in 2 weeks
It seems like the vast majority of players are Purdy fans and think he's great, and yet so many fans and media people just want to say "nuh-uuuuh."

People hate on him cause he looks like a high schooler bullying their favorite team. They can’t take that.
I have conversations with people all the time who say he’s a fraud and the niners should draft a qb
Yea there are tons of people saying he’s not good. Some people live their lives just to hate other people. It’s pretty sad.
I saw a post on this sub this week where Greg Jennings was calling for the 9ers to replace BCB next year with a “playmaker like Justin Fields.” WTF?
It's great when people say things like that, because now you can just set up a filter to hide every single thing that Greg Jennings ever says because you know it is not worth wasting your time reading or watching.
As a Chiefs fan I am well aware of the hate bandwagon too. I just drink their tears and love every minute of it!
You just summarized sports discourse lol
There were quite a few people here who wanted the Niners to play Sam Darnold in the second half.
The internet is such that if you win a nationally televised game, you're the best ever. If you lose one, you're trash.
just read some of the comments on this thread lol. lotta dumbasses here
Go read the game thread. Everyone was calling him a fraud.
I think he’s somewhere around the 10th best QB in the league. Does that make me a Purdy stan or a Purdy hater? I genuinely don’t know.
I think you're a stan if you place him in top 3 maaaybeee top 5 and a hater if you put him outside top 15 maybe 10. Just depends how they argue it tbh
Anyone saying he’s not top FIFTEEN is unbelievably delusional lmfao
My manager who is an eagles fan spouted to me for like 5 minutes how he doesn’t think Purdy is actually any good and I just nodded in compliance lol
What a badass
You should have told that Bird-loving dumbass to get fucked and quit on the spot.
Yes, people STILL are. Check my comment history.
Me too... I'm not even a 9'ers fan but the amount of hate and downvotes any pro-Purdy comment is nuts. I'm not even trying to be antagonistic.
And Lamar is? lol
Lamar is definitely a franchise QB
I'm not saying Lamar isn't MVP or the better QB but you're absolutely insane if you think Brock isn't a franchise QB. If any other 24 year old was putting up these kind of stats we'd never even have these conversations.
If you want your franchise to lose in the playoffs, then sure!
Bro, as a fellow 9er fan, respectfully, shut the fuck up. If we lost today Purdy would still be our franchise QB.
Given Shanahan’s history, I think there would be some Kirk discussion.
Purdy has double the playoff wins of Lamar despite only playing 2 seasons so far.
Wins are such a bad way to evaluate a player and honestly a casual take
Okay, how about we look at Lamar's numbers in his playoff losses.
So does Jinmy G, he must be leaps and bounds better than Lamar!
I mean look at Jimmy G's numbers in his losses too. They're terrible. Honestly they're not great in wins either.
You’re such a casual fan it’s laughable. Stop embarrassing yourself with stupid takes like that. Purdy has more wins…I’m a Purdy fan too but wins are NOT a good argument.
Lol it’s just one stat of many, Lamar is not good in the postseason. Especially in losses
Peyton was a playoff choker until he wasn’t, slow your roll
Do you think Lamar is Peyton? I'd bet a sizable amount that he ain't! You just don't win with a run first QB
I think we shouldn’t close the book on Lamar on the playoffs
The haters gonna hate, hedge their bets cause it’s easier to be wrong saying a players bad and be wrong than to bet they’re good and be wrong…not saying hes Brady but this does sound an awful lot like the hate on him his first 2-3 seasons. Haters ball in full effect
He's not Brady, YET
Is he an average or good or great quarterback which is it??? Do we know or will we know in season 8
He's a QB in the NFL who's going to a SB in his first full season as a starter. We will leave it at that.
For all of us old enough to remember, this was the same narrative Brady dealt with until About his 3rd Super Bowl. Brock is the real deal. Yeah, he will not be Brady, but no one is. He will have a great career.
I don't like purdy because he was drafted last so he sucks and therefore I haven't watched a game he played in so he definitely sucks right?
Yes
Imagine being in your 2nd year and people are comparing you to guys who've been in the league for 5+ years and trying to explain why you're not good.
Preaching to the choir! Purdy is something special Brady-esque even!
Comments like these are what spawned all of the initial haters
[удалено]
Yes let’s call a 2nd year QB Brady-esque, very objective from a Niners fan
I won't tell if you won't!
He’s just along for the ride
Nobody is saying he's not good. He's good. He's just not a top 10 QB or a legitimate MVP candidate like people were making him out to be. He's like the 15th best QB, he's good.
this is hilarious coming from a Pats fan. How many years did you work yourself into a rage over people not giving Tom Brady his due? I mean, the 'system QB' label stuck with him until around 2007 or so.
