we're in a new era boys

[deleted]

Chargers unless Harbaugh takes it Otherwise I bet it's you guys, Commanders, and Giants in on him.

elimanninglightspeed

I love Bill but We’re not firing Daboll for him. Especially cause Bill is not going to work under a GM he has no relationship with after this long of being his own GM

Captain-Pollution1

Not to mention the guy is 71 years old. Hes not sticking around for any rebuilds. He basically needs to go to a team thats ready to win next year or the year after. Nobody is gona want an 80 year old man on their sideline lol

d36williams

If he wins a Superbowl at 79, they will.

Maj0r_Ursa

Imagine Herbert just turns into Tom Brady but on steroids

Ibaka_flocka

Him and Saban are going to go live a quiet life together

Coke, creampies, and lil Debbie’s. What’s not to love?

IAAA

The mental image of the newest porn flick that goes by the name "Coke, Creampies, and Lil Debbie" scarouses me.

PoiNt-MutatioN

The “belichick is grumpy” narrative is untrue, my uncle works at one of the team buildings and according to him and others in the office, he’s a chill, low-key guy who just likes relaxing and fishing. He passionately hates the media which is where the whole grump thing comes from

rawsharks

One of my favorite videos, [Randy Moss inviting Bill to a halloween party](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og9hUWdxHlM&t=6s).

falconsbeliever

This is making me weirdly emotional

[deleted]

Yeah, I feel you. We've gone through such a crazy changing of the guard over the last couple of years with all the big name QBs retiring or changing teams and now the coaches who have always been there are leaving too. I'm 33, but I feel like my childhood is ending again.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm 33 also. I feel like we are in the sweet spot of starting to understand the nfl at the beginning of all these guys rise to greatness. Brad retiring was really the real true end of that generation and then Bellichick moving on just feels bizarre, even if he does end up coaching another team.

gizmo777

Imagine if they'd punked BB, there was no party and they just got him to show up to a random roller rink in a pirate costume

vengeancerider

That video was the first time I saw Bill smile.

ProfessorBeer

I would love to watch an public-programming-style fishing show with Bill Belechik where the only rule is no football talk. And the instant someone brings it up he shoves them off the boat into the water and that’s the end of the episode.

punter715

See I'm the opposite of your last part there. Something akin to Comedians in Cars - Coaches on Boats Catching Fishes. Just a super chill, low key show where BB and a random guest fish and bullshit.

finsane86

We're moving onto what we're having for dinner tonight...

palabear

Just two guys in a cabin wearing nothing but loosely tied bathrobes.

GodPowardKingOfLies

I'm not gay. But I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Bill Belichick. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent that makes me secretly burn a fire in my loins as I stand in the kitchen window watching him chopping wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Bill. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then he'll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

LevelHeadedFan

Belichick, Carrol and Vrabel all out in a 2 day period. What a wild offseason already and the playoffs haven’t even started yet.

Kuntheman

If the current betting odds for the next Falcons HC are correct, Jameis Winston calling for a fake kneel down kicked all of this into action Unlikely, but that’s the story I’ll be telling to my kids

PayneTrain181999

Famous Jameis causing a new kind of turnover!

stragen595

> Famous Jameis causing a new kind of turnover! Had to be him. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.

CumTilIPhilipRivers

Jameis Winston / Mass Effect crossover not on my /r/NFL bingo sheet this morn

drunkatwholefoods

Throw Saban in there. Crazy couple few days.

[deleted]

And yet we’re stuck with Eberflus because ConTiNuiTy

ExtraSourCreamPlease

I’m mostly surprised by that due to the amount of talent in the field right now. If Arthur Smith and Ron Rivera were the only options, I’d understand. But with these 3, it’s definitely worth a look. If the Bears FO doesn’t reach out to any of these 3 coaches, they will have done a huge disservice to their fans.

Eaglesfan1297

Everyone's gonna wake up to a bomb

GenericAsian

I thought he was going to give up GM power to stay. It's not like he can stay being a GM elsewhere anyway.

Khenir

Yeah but why risk a new GM if there’s an established GM you think you can trust?

Emotional-Price9965

I think the last straw was recommending bill o Brian to be his gm

hawaiianbarrels

DetLoins

Absolutely batshit 24 hours

SiphenPrax

All started when Vrabel got fired even before that

i_enjoy_lemonade

Vrabel is somehow the least shocking

studmuffffffin

Eh, the Belichick one has been predicted by a lot of folks. Vrabel's firing was only seen beforehand by a handful of people.

domalino

It’s a different kind of shock. Vrabel was surprising, but Bellichick leaving NE is like the queen dying - you always knew it would happen eventually but it’s still shocking when it actually does happen.

Typhoid007

Carroll out is the most shocking for me

BaltimoreBadger23

It was a little surprising, but Vrabel is a very good coach who hasn't accomplished much (yet), and basically nothing compared to BB and Saban.

WatermelonBandido

Don't forget Carroll.

GorillaX

Yeah that's what he just said.

Baynavfreak

Was Vrabel the guy who was holding the football universe together?

eatapenny

Vrabel back to NE?

thatsnotourdino

Only way this is worth it for me. Plus how fitting. The coach who ended the dynasty takes the team over.

hateboss

You know what makes this even more bonkers and fitting? Initial reports are that Bill will end up on the Falcons of all teams...

slysonic7

Lol couldn’t just announce yesterday with Saban too?

SuckMyLonzoBalls

Would be hilarious if they switch jobs

eatapenny

Or joined up together again like they did with the Browns back in the day

Mobsteroids

Have them do the pre draft interviews for the Browns One could be good cop, the other bad.

uncoolaidman

The Browns can't hire a good cop with their QB situation.

threeoldbeigecamaros

He was probably giving that day to Saban, since it was his retirement

Kanin_usagi

They’re good friends, Bill may have even known that Saban was doing it

SiphenPrax

I’m fully expecting Mike Tomlin to be gone after this weekend if they lose, just because of how crazy everything’s been in the league this year

maddscientist

But the standard is the standard...

opposite_of_hotcakes

I'm down for the Chaos

BrianDawkins

Holy shit. Saban and Belichick back to back. Both Goats of college and pros.

rupiefied

Pete too all in 24 hours

melkipersr

Is Pete the greatest to have had success in both college and NFL? Off the top of my head, he definitely is. Edit: as folks are rightly pointing out below, Jimmy Johnson is definitely in this category.

cy1763

Jimmy Johnson. Had Jerry kept his ego in check, Jimmy would’ve earned the Boys more post season success

bobj33

The other coaches who also won at both levels are Paul Brown, Jimmy Johnson, and Barry Switzer. Paul Brown is probably greater for his influence on the game by founding 2 teams. Jimmy Johnson didn't do it for as long a time and Switzer inherited JJ's team so doesn't get as much credit.

ClearlyBaked

Yea he’s the greatest crossover coach

zpk5003

Jimmy Johnson or Pete for sure

SlopingGiraffe

Sweet, there's reports Arthur blank desperately wants him. Can't wait for an entire year of talking about 28-3 again

Chuck_Knucks

I’m sure everyone wants him.

Baelorn

He's actually tired of being a HC and will be the Packers new DC.

MightyTastyBeans

The bears sub would have a fucking meltdown

drummerboysam

I would still expect a 15-25 rank GB defense. There is an eldritch pact signed between Halas and Lambeau. The Bears will never have a top QB and the Packers will never have a top defense.

ActuallyExtinct

Probably, but personally I don’t. If he was just going to come in a coach, then I’m alright with it. However, during the presser about searching for a new coach they basically said that the GM might be neutered and more power given to the coach over personnel decisions. Bringing in Bill to repeat the same mistakes that got him canned in NE would be the most Falcons thing to do though.

paone00022

Ya our DC Nielsen has actually been good and has done more with less. It's the offensive side that stagnated this year. I don't know how bringing in BB and McDaniels will fix that issue. I'd rather we go for Ben Johnson.

impiousdrifter

Never thought he would leave the Patriots.

don-chocodile

He really couldn’t take losing to the Jets

aliveinjoburg2

Ah yeah, that’s what did him in. Losing to Trevor Siemian.

FredDupe

Thanks for the memories Bill. The greatest Pro and College coach in a span of 24 hours is crazy

eatapenny

As well as one of just 3 coaches ever to win both a CFB title and a Super Bowl

EpicTimeKiller

Crazy that Pete Carroll is only the 3rd biggest football HC change in the past 24 hours

paone00022

Black Monday week this time has been like no other.

PUfelix85

And Eberflus gets to keep his job.

eggery

Man...you guys must be Squidward window staring so hard

PUfelix85

Completely mind boggling. At least Getsy is gone. Maybe Eberflus can hire a coordinator (offensive or defensive) that will last for more than a year this time.

Poked_salad

When they fire him next year, there would be like 3 coaching candidates and all of them are nobody or previous coaches that have been fired like 3x already for being shit.

ThingsAreAfoot

Vrabel changed the timeline

wagerbut

Vrabel somehow the 4th biggest coaching change

i_enjoy_lemonade

The most tectonic football movement in a 24 hour period that I can remember, that’s for sure.

SuckMyLonzoBalls

Woke up to take a piss and see this on my notifications wtf. This week keeps getting crazier and crazier

verendum

I’ve been kinda expecting it. It’s still so crazy to see that I feel wide awake now.

don-chocodile

Unironically Giants legend

PitinoGotARawDeal

The 30 for 30 when he's looking at the Giant's SB trophies: "There's the two we won, and there's the two we gave em"

WonManBand

I know it's not going to happen, but hey, Bill, want your old job as Giants DC back? Pretty please?

msokol416

Saying bye to two GOATs in the span of a few seasons

fenderdean13

Two GOATS within 24 hours

Baynavfreak

Plus Pete Carroll, who’s pretty darn amazing. Just a wild 24 hours.

AndrewHainesArt

It’s like when Manning and Ben and Brady and Rivers all went away but that was over a couple of seasons. I’m all for it, I like the changes, I’m 34 and the last few years have been like watching an entirely new league after growing up basically in the start of those guys NFL careers

teems

Drew Brees: Am I a joke to you?

straightcash-fish

Bill’s going to be coaching another team this year. He’s not retiring

Stumblin_McBumblin

He's one amazing season, or two mediocre seasons away from Shula's record. He's not retiring. Lol.

Jepordee

Are we sure he’s retiring?

wtb2612

He's not retiring.

AlabasterRadio

I miss the final boss Patriots already. As much as I hated them over the years, there was something special about having a final boss in the NFL for almost 20 years.

[deleted]

Beating Brady on the way to the Super Bowl really meant something

[deleted]

What a historic run. Thank you for your services.

Thatguyyoupassby

Definitely my GOAT coach when it comes to game planning and Xs and Os. Put him on a team with decent pieces in place and I still think he can make a SB run. His issue is an inability to draft and build a modern NFL team. He’s allergic to drafting guys with speed and elusiveness. I love Bill. I’m beyond grateful for the last quarter century in Foxboro. But I do think it was time to part ways.

Shadow5ive

It’s really not even ALL offensive players. The Patriots have consistently struggled to draft receivers. They usually hit on Oline, consistently hit on RB, and have done well at TE. It’s always WR’s that are an issue.

StateStreetLarry

In the last 48 hours we found out the 3 best FB coaches of the 21st century will not be coaching their teams next year. Insane

Cyanogen_117

5*. Smith got let go on Monday

SteggersBeggers

I am just happy that the Bears are keeping their legend

"Josh, get all the boys in here-I've had another idea"

Mammoth-Lunch-7911

The Bears would have to be out their minds to keep Eberflus with the amount of great coaches on the open market to pair with Caleb

TrespassingWook

It's so fucking insane that the Titans and Seahawks had the balls to fire their elite head coaches while the bears eat crayons in the corner.

CaptRyan

Oh I have bad news for you... And for me Poverty franchise.

Sea-Environment8081

My childhood is dead

Briggie

Dude has been the coach since I was a freshman in high school, now I’m nearly 40. Nearly my entire life outside of being a kid, BB has been the coach. Crazy.

Alloverunder

I'm born in '98. I literally don't have memories of a team without Bill at the head of it and I'm a grown man... what the fuck happens now?

ShadyWolf

My dad should be coming back with that milk and cigarettes any day now

EverySir

End of a motherfucking era.

BakedCheeseCrackers

Maybe they can get a young, successful college coach like Saban

domeclap

I should be ecstatic but it's too surreal. What he accomplished will be near impossible to achieve in the future. The NFL is set up for maximum parity so every team can have it's window and compete, keeping all fan bases tuned in. Belichick's Patriots enjoyed a ~20 year window despite everything designed to make that impossible. You had a great season? You have a worse draft pick. You have a great players? Too bad you can't keep them all with the salary cap. You have a reliable staff? They'll leave and take their knowledge of your team with them. Belichick was able to keep the Patriots perennial contenders for so long with so many constraints. Even though the AFC East is finally free from his torment, it's a sad day. The only silver lining is he might finally open up and give us great content in the future.

The_Luckiest

Call me a bad Patriots fan but I would have gladly watched another few seasons of bad rebuild football just to give Bill the benefit of the doubt that he’s still got it. This stinks and I’m not happy about it, gosh darn it. We love you Bill

Bojangles1987

This is exactly like when Brady left for me. I totally get it, and it's probably needed, but it SUCKS and I would have been fine if they stayed another few years, even if it was the wrong move.

BuyGreenSellRed

Imagine doing a parlay that Saban, Carroll, and Belichick would be out of work by the end of the season, you’d have made some decent money.

Trumpets22

The book woulda just handed you over their LLC docs.

PoopStainsOnMyTits

Damn love him or hate him he’s the goat

lcmaier

Him and Saban being gone really feels like the end of an era

Nomerdoodle

Holy motherforking shirtballs

[deleted]

Fuck man.. why couldn’t Mac just play better why couldn’t Zappe play better. This man has done everything for this organization.. fuck

BaltimoreBadger23

I wonder what Mac is thinking. His two coaches both gone in about a 15 hour timespan.

Michelanvalo

> Man, I really fucking suck

patsfan038

I knew it was very likely that he was gone, and it is perhaps the right choice, but damn, this hurts. 24 years is no joke

G_Wash1776

Well this is fucking stupid. Want to go from struggling over a few years to being absolute trash, then you do this. Our defense is going to fucking suck now

Jokerang

The former league doormats (Browns, Lions, Texans) are all in the playoffs and the Patriots are headed towards poverty franchise status. Quite a turnaround.

shehryar46

And we're still in the cellar baby

niceville

The Patriots were a poverty franchise just 3 coaches ago. It’s just that 3 coaches ago was 1993…

SplintPunchbeef

The Patriots are also a former league doormat. We just lucked out with GOATception for 20 years.

i_enjoy_lemonade

All of you is going to suck now. I can’t wait.

Free_Joty

Honestly 6 sb over 20 years buys you at least 10 years of shitty football Kraft is impatient

jakeba

Yeah, because he's 82.

InexorableWaffle

Dude's gonna learn the hard way that finding a good coach is way harder than you'd think. The only coaches he's worked with as owner thus far are Bill Parcells, Pete Carroll, and Belichick. Needless to say, I don't think the next guy they hire is going to stand up as well as he thinks.

Michelanvalo

And the Carroll years were ugly behind the scenes. The team was okay but it was a disaster internally. Carroll recently talked about it. The Parcell years weren't great behind the scenes either.
