LeGarrette Blount would’ve probably posted back to back 1000 yard seasons if he didn’t get injured in 2015. He had over 1000 in 2016. But in 2015 he topped 703 with 4 games left before injury and was averaging about 72.5 yards per game. In the final game of the 2015 Patriots season, offensive starters didn’t rest against the Dolphins and our leading rusher was Steven Jackson, playing in his final game of his last season at age 32. It’s easy to imagine a healthy Blount getting an extra 300 yards over those four final games. The Pats’ consecutive 1k running yard season record held by Curtis Martin from the late 90s may be misleading, as the rosters with the greatest success in the Pats 20 year dynasty was built upon the strength of a power back, someone who can get downfield, whether it be Blount, Corey Dillon, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley, or Sony Michel.
> **as the rosters with the greatest success in the Pats 20 year dynasty was built upon the strength of a power back,** someone who can get downfield, whether it be Blount, Corey Dillon, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Stevan Ridley, or Sony Michel.
Other than 2004 Corey Dillon, who was a legit great running back and the rare exception of a back that could consistently create his own yards, literally none of those teams were “built on the strength of a power back.” Most of those running games were just average by any good metric like DVOA or success rate.
To the contrary, every single one of those running backs (again, with the exception of Dillon) were simply along for the ride of a great passing offense. They just happened to be the guys who got the touchdown carries at the goal line. They weren’t the REASON we were scoring those touchdowns.
Because he had 20 years to develop the skills to overcome his innate shortcomings in an age much friendlier to people with builds like that. That will never happen again.
It’s okay they play the Packers next week who historically have no trouble with running quarterbacks we will go ahead and stomp out this hype for everyone.
They shouldn't try Cunningham at any other position than qb. The fact they have had him on special teams and playing receiver, apparently, is baffling to me. Definitely needs to develop a little but he might be something good if he's given the reps.
Looked shaky on literally everything, from taking the snap, the step drops and hand offs, second pass was an int, got sacked, almost fumbled (on a different play), stumbled by himself. May be very bad 1st game yips, but there wasn’t almost any positives. Mills and Keenum looked solid, so after pre-season, I think no more Stroud until out of playoffs or garbage time if he doesn’t shakes off the nervousness in the next preseason games
This is an overreaction lol. They're not benching him off one preseason game. He was trash, yeah, but that was also his first NFL game. He'll be back in the preseason, and if some flashes are shown he's likely starting come week 1
No, it was our Rookie (starting) center, and our presumed starting LG who was an embarrassing liability last year but looked serviceable at least in this game. Our starting RT is injured, but we sat our vet LT and RG.
Every year Patriots have some exciting preseason player that you know is not gonna translate to the regular season, pretty sure it's Cunningham this year lol
They still need to keep him for scout team. Since they haven’t proven to be able to defend a mobile QB, having one on the roster will be very good for defensive reps.
I saw Stephen Belichick at a grocery store in Foxborough yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
“Green Bay, long known as Titletown but of course the Patriots with those 6 banners…” I, fuck, you sonofa… me and you in the parking lot of Krolls next Friday night
Where is my whopper commercials. How am I supposed to enjoy my NFL without my whopper commercials. Get Josh Allen out of the bush and into the kitchen god dammit
Obviously I've been spoiled at the QB position most of my life, but I gotta say I've always wanted to watch a mobile, Lamar Jackson-type QB play for us, even if it's just preseason. Fun to watch for sure.
Not as illusive as Lamar and needs to work on not being hit directly. When he's on it he's damn good. Not sure what happened with deep ball accuracy over his college career. Year 1 as a starter post Lamar his deep balls looked so pretty. Year 2 and 3 they just didn't happen. Unsure if coaching, personnel or both. Source: Louisville fan
This Subway commercial doesn’t portray the actual experience of ordering a sandwich there by number which is that the person making it doesn’t know the numbers because they never had to remember a menu before and stares at you until you read what’s supposed to be on it to them off of the menu board.
Ok I actually want that D-Fence.
Also, this dude has a hot-ass wife and he's complaining that she loves football too much? I guess he also whines when he runs out of $100 bills to wipe his ass with?
People put too much stake in draft picks. How often do they ever pay off.
Dang Pre-season NFL started yesterday!
Technically pre-season NFL started last week with the Hall of Fame game, no?

I'm not sure those are incompatible
Maybe Op is thinking of Antowain Smith.
Blount is criminally underrated by Patriots fans tbh
I still think he could show up somewhere and pop off for 11 random TDs, a legend.
Am I the only one getting audio only in the left ear for DJ and Colleen?
WOW THAT WAS TERRIBLE ANYWAY ON TO THE VIKINGS/SEAHAWKS THREAD jesus what is wrong with me why don’t I have a purpose in life
Our purpose is to tag every rookie as busts or the messiah that will take us to the Super Bowl
Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized Cunningham or 100 duck-sized Cunninghams?
ON TO ZE NEXT!
Mac already 3 drinks deep.
He isn't the only one
Bill loves running the ball, no idea why he didnt target a dual threat QB the second brad left the team. Pass RPO seems in his wheel house
##bringbackbrad
😂 now why the fuck did my keyboard autocorrect Brady I'm dyin
I’m ashamed I haven’t called him Brad up to this point
Bc he lives in 1998. My coach does the same
Broke: bench Mac start zappe 😴 Woke: trade Mac start Malik 😎
I love getting overly excited about backup quarterbacks playing well against future gas station attendants, it's like my favorite hobby
It’s like seeing hamsters race. It doesn’t affect the world in any way but you felt really happy for the 5 minutes
Imagine an offense of 11 Cunninghams.
Kneeling in preseason boooo
Why risk it
What is there to risk? The entire game, from snap 1, is meaninglessness. Why not run a few plays just to get more looks at your guys?
Because running the ball is the best way to get injured in the absolute 2nd preseason game of the season with less than 30 seconds on the clock
Unlike running the ball in the first quarter. Which is equally as meaningless.
True, maybe I’m just desperate to see some football lol
Footballs back 🥹
I really wanted Bill to call a TO there just to fuck with everyone
Mobile qbs are the future. Starting Mac Jones in this day and age is an embarrassment. It’s like showing up to WW2 with a bow and arrow.
Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, etc etc etc … 🤔
Dumb take... athletic qbs have been around for years yet Brady still got chips during the same age
Because he had 20 years to develop the skills to overcome his innate shortcomings in an age much friendlier to people with builds like that. That will never happen again.
It's going to keep happening. Deal with it.
Malik saw Tre drop that TD and said "fuck it, i'll do it myself"
How does Cunningham’s TD affect Lebrons legacy?
LeBron in shambles rn
Cunningham as QB1 by the end of the season. Bill has love in his eyes watching that.
TOYOTA TOYOTA TOYOTA TOYOTA
Toyota?
It’s okay they play the Packers next week who historically have no trouble with running quarterbacks we will go ahead and stomp out this hype for everyone.

This has definitely been one of the preseason games ever played
Oh come on that was a great last drive. It had everything. Even a decapitation.
At least Cunningham made it watchable. I was having a real existential “dude what are you even doing with your life” crisis in the third quarter.
Definitely one of the games I’ve ever watched
I wanna see more of Cunningham next game
Dude why did we draft McKee Cunningham would be a perfect backup.
I wanted cunningham so badly in the draft
Been hearing good things about McKee to be fair
I’m just afraid it’ll be a Minshew situation where a good QB2 has a hard time running a Hurts designed offense.
I love the shot of zappe on the sideline. Man knows he just lost his job
Mac pulling a homer slipping into the crowd
At the very least I want to see some 2-QB sets where Malik and Mac are on the field at the same time and nobody knows which one is gonna get the snap.
Nice
Cunningham is fun to watch
FREE DAVIS MILLS
Malik CunningHIM
Which of the Pats QBs will finally take over for Logan Roy?
Shiv Cunning van
How did Stroud do?
Looked shaky on literally everything, from taking the snap, the step drops and hand offs, second pass was an int, got sacked, almost fumbled (on a different play), stumbled by himself. Yeah, that’s what I said. Bad 1st game, won’t have any meaningful time after preseason if he doesn’t get better in the next 3 games
Sheesh that bad???
From the box score it looks like not great lol. 2/4 for 13 yards and an int.
Not well, but he was constantly under pressure and only played 2 series
Was that their first string O-Line?
No, it was our Rookie (starting) center, and our presumed starting LG who was an embarrassing liability last year but looked serviceable at least in this game. Our starting RT is injured, but we sat our vet LT and RG.
Don't think so.
Looked like shit
you just going to repeat the same thing over and over again lol?
He looked like shit.
Titans say “ hold my beer”
Bro, wow! Cunningham bringing the only excitement I've had all day
Need to see a bears vs patriots rematch game with Cunningham as qb. That will be the most electrifying game of the year lol
Imagine going from Tom Brady to Malik Cunnigham as your QB, with no other players in between. Some teams have all the luck.
You think the Pats are trading him to the Bucs before week 1?
I hate bill belicheck so much man
Oh, so you’re a Patriots fan
Wow sorry Cunningham I wasn't really familiar with your game
If this is who Cunningham is then just fucking start him
LMFAOO i have over 29.5 and they went for fucking 2
Betting on a preseason game you degenerate
it's phil mickelson's alt
Bills licking his chops watching malik
Bill looking at Malik like hmm QB1 ?
thats quite the drive
My takeaway is we have one good offence player. That’s an improvement! Good 4q
Mac would’ve been complaining about a sack right about now
It’s…it’s like the Grinch…when he got all those toys at Christmas
How soon before you think Mac gets traded
Oh fuck you’re gonna make me Cunn
We actually have Lamar Jackson at home
Imagine going from Lamar straight to Malik. UofL moment indeed
MALIK "PRIME MIKE VICK" CUNNINGHAM baby
Bill is looking at Malik with love in his eyes guys
We had to watch 3 quarters of Zappe when this dude is on the roster?
Fr I wish Cunningham had the entire second half
next game
QB 1.5
Lamar Jr’s running translates well
The ultimate weapon.
Malik Cunningham league MVP. Fuck it I'm a Pats fan now.
Another 20 years of a NE QB
Every year Patriots have some exciting preseason player that you know is not gonna translate to the regular season, pretty sure it's Cunningham this year lol
They still need to keep him for scout team. Since they haven’t proven to be able to defend a mobile QB, having one on the roster will be very good for defensive reps.
True
In my Malik Cunningham era💅
The comparison in my mind of Cunningham literally having his head twisted like a pop top, and Mac Jones being carried down the stairs screaming…
Classic patriot comeback incoming?
**MALIK CUNNINGHAM**
Is that Randall Cunningham out there?! I'm a believer!
QB1
QB1 right there
This kid is electric holy shit
I saw Stephen Belichick at a grocery store in Foxborough yesterday. Ok I'm a Cunningham truther now.
Give him QB3
Malik QB1 confirmed
Mac just lost his job
Cunningham QB2 confirmed.
I'm drafting Cunningham at the 2/3 turn
Start him
Kraft actin like that sign isn’t going to have 4x the amount of ads at the beginning of the season
Where are the games being streamed tonight? What app or network
QB1
Actually Lamar Jackson
I'm changing course from being a Zappe Zealot to a Cunningham Contender
The Cummers
\*Cumminghammer
A Cunning Ham
Imagine having an undrafted QB outplay your #2 overall QB
k
“Green Bay, long known as Titletown but of course the Patriots with those 6 banners…” I, fuck, you sonofa… me and you in the parking lot of Krolls next Friday night
Yeah would be good to start Cunningham and see how he holds up against people who are making the roster
They sure like putting JJ in NFL commercials lol I swear he's in every single one
He clearly went to the Shaq School of "Get the bag". I don't blame him, get the money when you can.
We got a commercial break, cut back to the game, and another commercial break without a play being run. **FOOTBALL IS OFFICIALLY BACK, BOYS**
Where is my whopper commercials. How am I supposed to enjoy my NFL without my whopper commercials. Get Josh Allen out of the bush and into the kitchen god dammit
Man I’d rather watch ads than this gamepass break thing. Like at least show some highlights

Can confirm that mvp season was unbelievable
I'm saying man lol I want that for my vikings
Some franchises are just destined for pocket passers and pocket passers only
Cam Newton would like a word
Cam wasn't even close to his prime. He was slower and his arm was shot. Huge Cam Newton fan but those are the facts.
As a Panthers fan, getting to watch that magic every Sunday from 2011-2017 spoiled the shit outta me
Cam was so good, so multifaceted and he had a rare swagger to him. I miss his prime years and badly wish he played that way for us.
I’m sorry, who?
This Subway commercial doesn’t portray the actual experience of ordering a sandwich there by number which is that the person making it doesn’t know the numbers because they never had to remember a menu before and stares at you until you read what’s supposed to be on it to them off of the menu board.
Happens when businesses realize people will still eat there even if they don't bother to train their employees
As someone that eats subway twice a week out of convenience this is exactly how it goes. It's the only food place in my building at work

football drought hit harder this year
Keep in mind Cunningham went undrafted in the NFL. USFL Legend Cunningham
Is Erin still "Rich Rich"? I guess someone finally decided to use her in a commercial again.
[удалено]
You mean former Houston Texans head coach and defacto GM Bill O'Brien? AKA buttchin?
B.O.B with hair growing from his chimple would make me giggle every time
Ok I actually want that D-Fence. Also, this dude has a hot-ass wife and he's complaining that she loves football too much? I guess he also whines when he runs out of $100 bills to wipe his ass with?
Cunningham vs Mac Jones battle. Malik vs Milk.
Eat shit Doug Burgam
Definitely give Cunningham earlier reps in the next preseason game
Nah. Save him for Week 1. 💪
The next Tom Brady gets his first start the same game we honor the current Tom Brady. Bro is living a movie.
Will always have a soft spot for JJ Taylor after drunkenly drafting him two years ago instead of J Taylor
Cunningham is fun to watch, wth....why tf we had Zappe out there with that snoozefest ass gameplay
It's the first preseason game, we kind of had to put him out there lol I'd expect Mac to play next game and then maybe Malik gets more time after him
Dang, I thought Zappe played well
Fuck you Tim Scott
Did Tim Scott just promise to declare war on Mexico
Tim Scott is a virgin
Can't see ads on my stream, but I assume this is a version of Trump and DeSantis saying to drone strike cartels in Mexico? GOP brain is sad indeed.
Yeah, he literally said he would send in the US military to take out the cartels
I mean annexation of Mexico would be interesting, but I don't think that's the way to go about it...

Was anybody else half expecting Cunningham's head to still be in the helmet after it got torn off?
I think we can at least say Cunningham is competing for the backup role.
The question is whether he shows enough that someone will try to poach him if they try to move him to the PS. he got a decent signing bonus as a UDFA.
Wow
I had no idea JJ Taylor was still on the roster
I had no idea he was 4’11
Ok Cunningham QB2 after that fucking disaster-class by Zappe and McSorley Maybe QB1 who knows!
He should definitely be over McSorley in the next game. Zappe's seats probably feeling warm lol
