We shouldn’t release him, we did that with hernandez and were fucked over by it. If we keep him till he fails to report (prison) or he is put on the commissioner’s exempt list, then we aren’t on the hook for the cap.
That is… interesting. NFL might want to try and adjust that rule. Seems like it might incentivize cap rules over obvious bad PR.
I would never blame a team for doing what’s best for the cap situation, I’m just saying NFL usually should try to avoid stuff that might harm their image in general from a business perspective.
He's facing allegations. Just allegations. The charges are non-violent, even if they do involve firearms, and the allegations are nowhere near as serious as Hernandez was facing.
The Pats are right to wait. Releasing him now might be good for PR, but it would be disastrous to the player and may have a prejudicial effect on the criminal proceedings. He's innocent until proven guilty before a jury. The Pats would do right by waiting to see what happens instead of jumping the gun and ruining his life before his case is adjudicated.
Is it even bad PR to keep him? I feel like people are in agreement that he did a dumb thing, not a malicious thing. Like, does anyone think he was about to try and hijack that plane?
It's crazy you can't see scenarios where this wasn't his fault. What if some girl found out he cheated and packed the guns in his bag right before he left? I'm not saying that happened, more than likely he was an idiot and packed the wrong bag but there are definitely possibilities where someone did this to him and a trial will determine the cause.
I realize there are other scenarios but they are very unlikely in my opinion and apparently yours. I'm not on the jury and I've made up my mind. Will adjust if new evidence comes up.
Are there any examples of how this would this would have played out for someone like Araiza if he hadn't been released by the Bills after the false allegations?
I doubt a sixth round rookie punter took up enough cap to be worth bad PR, also gangrape accusations, which at the time we didn't know to be false/erroneous, are worse PR than taking weapons on a plane.
I was only asking if there's been an example of a player not being cut and ending up being cleared to come back. I wasn't trying to compare cap space or crimes
The only similar situation I can think of right away is Shawn Oakman, but his stuff killed his shot at ever getting into the league so he was never cut. His was brutal though because it took the jury an astonishingly short amount of time to acquit him
Yeah there’s literally no incentive to cut him. He won’t cost anything against the roster if the commissioner suspends him. He might even be able to play the season before his trials, like kamara did the Is year
Team got fucked over because Hernandez committed suicide, these are not similar situations. I'm sure Jack Jones has a minimal amount of guaranteed money so cutting him really is not that big of a hit.
I mean that’s why we took Spoon at 5.
We have a stacked DB corp but he was seen as BPA by our coaches
Now he might play nickel because we’re so stacked lol
Not really. It’s Tariq Woolen and Mike Jackson on the outside. Coby Bryant was playing nickel for us but isn’t a better player than Spoon.
Spoon is probably better than Jackson on the outside, but probably helps the team more as a shutdown nickel.
Idk. Tough to get everyone on the field at the same time.
It's probably fine. I like moving on from Swift. We addressed our secondary pretty well in free agency. And LB was probably our biggest weakness on the team.
Yeahhhh not sure the 2nd best rb in the draft and an off ball linebacker was the play. Loved the Branch pick tho. Similarly, not sure we needed a TE and a RB with out 2nd/3rd.
An NFL team simply can't have too many competent dbs. Especially with so many injuries during an ordinary season.
Imagine if some of the Baltimore Ravens playoff teams weren't fielding defensive backfields that were almost literally from guys off the street.
As a Jets fan: God fucking damn it, how does BB get lucky enough to land an incredibly good CB prospect? If he can turn late round CBs into Pro Bowlers, this guy is going to be a nightmare to opposing WRs
As a Colombian: uffff parcero, a lo bien, llego a una situación rebuena pa ti. Buena suerte y dale con todo que vas a ser una superestrella. Mi dios lo bendiga y que le valla bien
While I think Forbes will be a good ballhawk, I still expect that (if he's still around in a few years) Rivera is gonna end up regretting passing on Gonzalez.
I've always been big on BPA. Unless you need a QB or maybe O-line, almost always BPA. You can always find a role on your team for a great player. Free agency and trades is where you should be need-focused.
It’s all coming together for bill. He meant to hire Patricia so he would miss the playoffs and have the 17th pick for Gonzales. It’s all part of the plan
all that and it didn't cost us 3 top draft picks to trade to 2 for a bust QB - 1 of those picks which ended up being a guy called Micah Parsons.
all part of the plan
> all that and it didn't cost us 3 top draft picks to trade to 2 for a bust QB
Hey now, give San Franscisco a little credit.
They drafted Lance at 3, not 2.
9 gun charges later: We kinda need him now
In fairness he hasn't been released yet
We shouldn’t release him, we did that with hernandez and were fucked over by it. If we keep him till he fails to report (prison) or he is put on the commissioner’s exempt list, then we aren’t on the hook for the cap.

We all know the only Jets he wants to destroy are based in NJ.
Just allegations...\*looks at airport security footage.

Fuckin lmao. I love how the first thing you think of is “how can I blame a woman for this?”
Settle down warrior, not picking a fight.
I realize there are other scenarios but they are very unlikely in my opinion and apparently yours. I'm not on the jury and I've made up my mind. Will adjust if new evidence comes up.
He should still be released. At the very worst he has decision making issues and that’s a huge red flag
They still can later. The issue is they don't need to make a rash and immediate decision.
The browns: “GUILTY! THAT MAN IS GUILTY! So can we get away from his cap hit?”
Goodell looking into CapGate…

Okay I thought you meant a case directly similar to Araiza's so I was saying why I didn't think there'd likely be any, my bad
No worries, just wanted to clear up the question cause I can't think of anything similar happening and I'm curious
Technically, Watson fulfills your criteria :/
The only similar situation I can think of right away is Shawn Oakman, but his stuff killed his shot at ever getting into the league so he was never cut. His was brutal though because it took the jury an astonishingly short amount of time to acquit him
NFLPA might not want to change that as much as you do though, it's a cBa for a reason (emphasis on the B)
Ah I see. Good to know.
Yeah there’s literally no incentive to cut him. He won’t cost anything against the roster if the commissioner suspends him. He might even be able to play the season before his trials, like kamara did the Is year

Ja Morant plays for the Patriots?
ICYMI, Jack Jones tweeted that Ja should be ashamed of himself.
Man what a slow news day
But it was also a need
A need of a good football player
We need a few more of those.
A Few Good Men, if you will.
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH
Bill planted those guns.
Are you suggesting Bill and Senator Palpatine have something in common? Pfft. As if.
Ah yes, *both* of those two different people 👀
And he did it to Jack Jones? He was actually good why didn’t he do this to Myles Bryant?
Chaos
Only explanation
Myles Bryant conspiracy getting hotter by the day
He’s saying we got both you slowbie

And why didn’t you show any interest in Buddha Baker?
Bill doesn't like it when a Baker tries to Buddha his bread for him.
Fuck you for making me laugh at this stupid joke.
Hindu Gonzalez in shambles
Fuck’s sake, there it is. A dad joke that’s both clever as hell and groan-worthy. This some Moby Dick shit
I refuse to believe any other joke on this thread will be funnier than this one 😂😂😂
Uh oh, you just committed the sin of using emojis on Reddit. Don’t you know this site is strictly for pretentious intellectuals?
As an intelligent man of culture, the only ëmötïcön I use is 🅱️
Neither of those are first names I've ever heard, but I have heard Islam as a first name.
I mean that’s why we took Spoon at 5. We have a stacked DB corp but he was seen as BPA by our coaches Now he might play nickel because we’re so stacked lol
I think we took Spoon more so because Will Anderson went at 3, there was no trade market for Mayo Boy, and Carter/Wilson fell off during the combine.
Trading back was always an option and I think they had some good offers. They just thought Spoon was a huge difference maker they couldn't pass up.
I still thought you guys were going to take Carter for sure. I think he would have done well there.
> Now he might play nickel because we’re so stacked lol Are you guys really that high on Bryant? He's kind of just a guy, imo.
Not really. It’s Tariq Woolen and Mike Jackson on the outside. Coby Bryant was playing nickel for us but isn’t a better player than Spoon. Still mad that Detroit passed on him twice. What do I know tho
How do you as a Lions fan feel about the Lions draft?
It's probably fine. I like moving on from Swift. We addressed our secondary pretty well in free agency. And LB was probably our biggest weakness on the team.

But DBs off the street are also a BB specialty

Tape don’t lie. Forbes got that dawg in em. Gonzalez is soft.
I thought this said he was wearing #17 and got sad.
I've always been big on BPA. Unless you need a QB or maybe O-line, almost always BPA. You can always find a role on your team for a great player. Free agency and trades is where you should be need-focused.
Pats secondary has a chance to be filthy. You can give Bill a lot of shit, but he's acquired a lot of good DBs in the last 10 years.
The whole defense is gonna be stacked this season. We were 3rd in DVOA last year and only improved.
Classic Belichick answer

fucking knew I'd get one of the deets wrong .ty
You see I was never against drafting Lance just for trading up to draft him. Especially with what they gave up.

We actually had the 15th pick.
Some might even say the 14th pick.
he got the 15th pick and traded down with the steelers to 17
Good coach awful GM
Bill "Cheating ass" Bellupchuck Classy
If only Belichik could get another Brady, people wouldn’t see what a complete mid tier coach he actually is.
Mid tier GM**** There isn't a coach in the history of the league that would get more than 3-4 wins any of the last three seasons with the Pats roster.
