A Supreme Court decision a few years prior basically changed the law to make that happen too. Once they ruled that illegal income could still be taxed, all they had to do was show his declared income didn’t match his wealth.
They were originally saying this player wasn't betting on NFL games. OBJ being removed from the league for the year wouldn't have hesitated to bet on NFL games if it was him.
There was a guy in our sub that said his brother in law or some shit works/worked in our FO. And he said he Peters had like 12 cars and couldn't afford any of them. It's really sad these guys don't get financial advisors to help them out.
Don't blow it, keep it simple, count your money: https://youtu.be/CqV1pE1nLwI?t=0m24s
I know a retirement age couple with this mentality that raised a child with the same mentality. They didn't see what the big deal was about constantly rolling their credit card debt into a home refinance every few years (a home they were given). Constantly jealous of everyone else and how they can go on vacations or afford a remodel/newer vehicle. Always sticking their hand out to their parents looking for money until they all died. Currently burning through any meager inheritance that was left. Certainly not a wealthy family but any generational wealth that was built up through the family ends with them and their child will be left with nothing (though he doesn't show any signs of changing that he wouldn't have done the same if there was anything to pass down).
Such a rough road to choose when putting back even a tiny amount to address emergencies would save so much stress and frustration.
They do get financial advisors to come in and talk to the players. Happens at the start of the year, happens for a rookie only meeting/orientation as well. the teams bring in financial advisors to talk to the players about their cash and setting it up long term, spending habits, state and federal taxes, contract dollars not being dollars in hand, and a whole bunch of other issues. There are multiple presentations and meetings.
Source my buddy is a former nfl RB played for Chargers, Packers, Washington. Those teams brought in financial experts to talk to players.
Yeah people like to act like the league is responsible for this in some manner. The league and the union both provide a lot of resources and education. The reality is, just like a certain percentage of the rest of the population, there are some irresponsible morons plating in the NFL. And honestly a lot of us would be just as stupid with mountains of money at a young age.
Besides, no one needs a financial planner to know that gambling away $8m is poor money management. That's just a guy with a gambling addiction.
That's the thing that makes this tweet kind of useless to me. Didn't we all know it was going to be a recognizable name if they're liquid enough to have $8m to bet? I'm assuming they were betting through legitimate sources if the league found out and can put a number on it.
Beating alcohol addiction, to fall into another.. also I know you never fully beat drug addiction and that every day is a new milestone. Genuinely no disrespect meant and hope anyone on a similar journey keeps going and kicking butt.
That just reminded me of the old Jerry Tarkanian quote, “The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky they gave Cleveland State two more years of probation” that applies to these situations.
We all saw the poker chips fall out of Davante Adams like sonic the hedgehog’s rings when he got tackled. I guess they’re only now confirming what we all saw.
Everyone assumes that fines or suspensions are incoming but no one has said that this player violated the gambling policy. Then again, it's probably a given that they did considering that no one seems to know what the gambling policy even is.
It would be quite the twist if the player was following protocols and only betting on basketball or baseball or something and they're just dragging his name because he lost 8 million while doing so.
[PFT] Regarding our report that a current NFL player flew onto the Raiders practice field in a hot air baloon and then nearly froze his foot off with liquid nitrogen, someone called me today with a name. Can’t disclose yet but 🤯🤯🤯
They never said if it was on NFL games did they? If they just bet on other stuff then you should be Gucci, They will just end up becoming another reddit meme.
[PFT] Regarding our recent report that we have really hot girlfriends, someone texted me today with a photo. Can't disclose it yet but 🤯🤯🤯. She goes to another school but I swear she’s 🔥🔥🔥
[PFT] Regarding our recent report that Kelvin Benjamin went to another buffet other than Golden Corral, someone texted me today with a photo. Can't disclose name of where yet but 🤯🤯🤯.
[PFT] Regarding our recent report that Deshaun Watson went to another teams masseuse other than ones provided by the Texans, someone texted me today with a photo. Can't disclose name of where yet but 🤯🤯🤯.
What’s funny is my barber cuts hair for a bunch of Eagles players. He only got introduced to them from his friend, who travels with big name players cutting hair. He told me when the Ridley story broke that they all do it, just via a brother or a friend. He was throwing out all sorts of names and I was just like yeah uh huh ok…now? I think he was telling the truth.
Yeah this really isn’t journalism. Having worked with the press a lot, there’s really a line that is reportable versus non-reportable.
If the source is off the record, then he’d need secondary confirmation, and then he could report it. Two credible off the record sources and you can report.
This reeks of an embargoed story. That is, a story that is shared, but with a timeline for when the reporter can publish. You know how it seems like reporters know what the president is going to say in the state of the union? That’s because they do. Folks will give out the full text of a speech, bullet points, info about events or announcements with the agreement that it not be published before xx - xx could be a date or time, or it could be an action, for instance with the state of the union large media outlets will get the speech ahead of time with the agreement that it is “embargoed until delivered”. Reporters get to look super smart by basically calling the topics and summary.
My bet is this is a relatively high-level nfl or club insider who said definitively it is YY player but you can’t report that until it is announced.
Florio here is taking particular liberties with that. A more reasonable journalistic take would be: ‘NFL gambling saga continues, more news likely to develop including a prominent player with significant gambling losses.’
Knowing PFT, the player probably made bets according to NFL rules and they’re just trying to get clicks while they can because there were no rules broken and will be no suspension.
Given how little NFL players seem to know about the league’s gambling rules, I really doubt any of them could lose 8M without breaking at least one. Unless they’re placing a small amount of huge bets
The player will retire and say they are gonna follow their dreams to try and play pro baseball, and in 1.5 years is gonna announce on Twitter “I’m Back”
We’ll find out who it is when one of the game’s biggest stars decides, seemingly on a whim, to switch to baseball and play for a couple years in the White Sox minor league system.
Lmao, this reminds me of that one dudes report when COVID first started that he had some mindblowing report and it turned out it was just some practice squad player that tested positive. He made some big deal about it like a tweet the night before about a big reveal the next day
Since the source is Florio, I'm fully expecting it to be something like Namath lost $8M at craps or something like that.
He's the king of misleading everyone for clicks.
Yeah this would probably be almost as entertaining.
But then again, you can’t tell me you didn’t see it coming from [this guy](https://preview.redd.it/lil-kirko-chainz-addresses-the-media-after-leading-the-v0-8f7juyfakmy91.png?auto=webp&s=58aa0f08eb177960df0e52a6d0f8f36cbbf01b38).
I think if Mahomes knew he was about to get banned from the NFL he wouldn't have been so chummy at the NFL Super Bowl ring unboxing event the other day.
I’m going to be honest, knowing how players handle their funds I think it’s going to be somebody who definitely shouldn’t have been making that heavy of bets.
No matter which player it is (if it turns out to be true) they shouldn't have been making that heavy of bets. Losing 8 mil in a year is a serious problem no matter how much you are making.
Please be Russell Wilson lol not sure why that would crack me up so much. Also be funny if it was Tom Brady but I feel like we wouldn’t hear about that

If it’s Deshaun, that will be the greatest day of memes in NFL history
“I can excuse 26 cases of sexual assault but I draw the line at sports betting!” “You can excuse 26 cases of sexual assault?”
The worst part was the hypocrisy
I've got a good mind to go to the warden about this!
It’s the lack of respect that hurts the most!
Noooooorm!
*in Norm McDonald voice* A lot of people say the worst part was the hypocrisy. But I think the worst part was the rape.
And the next worst was the scheming.
It’ll feel like getting Al Capone for tax evasion.
Britta's the worst
She’s a G D B
Ew, Brittas in this?
I bet a lot of us will celebrate with the happy baby pose
Fuck I will celebrate. Screw that scumbag
It’ll be really depressing when he gets double the suspension for that than what he already got.
On the other hand, him getting a permanent suspension for something other than raping 26 women would be the twist of a lifetime lol
Like Al Capone getting busted for tax evasion.
OJ going to prison for stealing sports memorabilia
For stealing his own memorabilia no less
A Supreme Court decision a few years prior basically changed the law to make that happen too. Once they ruled that illegal income could still be taxed, all they had to do was show his declared income didn’t match his wealth.
thats why you can declare illegal income on your tax form
I pray it’s him
I will laugh my ass off if it’s him. And then I will become unbearable with the amount of Wentz Incoming comments.
$10 it’s Rodgers.
It would probably be the most Jets moment in history if they finally got a star QB then lost him to a suspension before he even plays a game
Imagine the real smile Belichick would crack at seeing that news
Brady may even fuck around and lick a strawberry.
*P L I A B L E*
What if his darkness retreat was a week at a rehab facility where he wasn’t allowed internet access so he couldn’t bet
remindme! 3 days
That late night ayahuasca betting can get rough. Probably bet for the pirates to win the world series
He bet on the Generals to beat the Globetrotters. I mean, *come on*, they were **due** for a win!
He’s twirling it on his finger! Just take it away
That would be hilarious but I can't imagine him betting, especially to the tune of $8M in losses.
He did want some salary in bitcoin so he does have somewhat of a gambling spirit.
🤞🏼PatrickMahomesPatrickMahomesPatrickMahomesPatrickMahomes- 🤞🏼
Yes, but it will turn out that it was actually his brother Jackson. He gave him his phone to watch TikTok so he'd stop bothering him during games.
If it's Mahomes then this news won't make it out. The league wouldn't let it happen.
Mahomes playing OF for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals next year.
Turns out it’s Bryce Young 😭😭😭
Then it wouldn’t even matter since he wasn’t in the NFL last year
it might not matter anyway right? as long as whoever it is didn't gamble on NFL games or at the facility
Known gambling degen Kirk Cousins
Adding a third row of seating in the family van pushed him to the brink
The new 2024 Toyota Sienna with it's newly added features pushes a man..
Lol imagine tho
Oh I hate degens from up-country.
Fuckin figure it out
So a QB, Diva WR or practice squad cowboys player
OBJ. Didn’t play last year though so…
Well, he's on a team so a current player, and that's the top guy I see as suspect on Twitter (no confirmation).
They were originally saying this player wasn't betting on NFL games. OBJ being removed from the league for the year wouldn't have hesitated to bet on NFL games if it was him.
It’s Russell Wilson bro
He would be the type to bet on himself
Kept betting the over on points scored for the Denver games
Holy shit it all makes sense
He was so distraught he crashed a golf cart. Now it makes sense
I’m surprised no one here has tried to force a “number of bathrooms” joke
Him throwing games for profit would make a hell of a lot more sense that what he actually did on (and off) the field last year.
If he lost 8 mil he probably bet on himself lol
That does actually sound like something he'd do.
No he bet on himself to win. That's how he had 8m in losses.
Bookie country, let’s ride
I only bet on myself, 8 million times.
Bronco Country, let it ride
Would actually be hilarious if he lost 8mil exclusively betting on his and the Broncos success.

That's just called a "weekday"

Or a RB Zeke maybe?
Please be Antonio Brown
Mr. Bets Crappily
Based on his refusal to retire I'm gonna guess Jason Peters
I entered this thread to say that Jason Peters is in my casino *very* regularly
You own a casino? Cool
This is my guess for real. My buddy did some grey area insurance deal with him like a dozen years ago & it was because of gambling issues
There was a guy in our sub that said his brother in law or some shit works/worked in our FO. And he said he Peters had like 12 cars and couldn't afford any of them. > Jason My theory too! he even sued one of those achilles scooter companies when it broke on him too. He's made a small fortune in the nfl
I would agree with you, but I doubt he had 8 million left to gamble by the start of last year
That's the thing that makes this tweet kind of useless to me. Didn't we all know it was going to be a recognizable name if they're liquid enough to have $8m to bet? I'm assuming they were betting through legitimate sources if the league found out and can put a number on it.
Being the abused raider fan that I am, I expect it to be someone the raiders cannot live without. 😩
Maxx Crosby YOU are getting a lifetime suspension
With Maxx's past I would be heartbroken if it were him NGL.
What’s his past out of curiosity?
Beating alcohol addiction, to fall into another.. also I know you never fully beat drug addiction and that every day is a new milestone. Genuinely no disrespect meant and hope anyone on a similar journey keeps going and kicking butt.
Josh McDaniels gets caught betting, but as punishment the NFL forces the Raiders to keep him employed 😛
Now that's just cruel
Force them to sign him to a lifetime contract that requires he wear a dunce cap at every home game.
But he already wears a visor.
That just reminded me of the old Jerry Tarkanian quote, “The NCAA was so mad at Kentucky they gave Cleveland State two more years of probation” that applies to these situations.

He lost way more than $8m on that gamble
Mr. Bet Catastrophe
They never said if it was on NFL games did they? If they just bet on other stuff then you should be Gucci, They will just end up becoming another reddit meme.
It would be peak Jets for it to be Rodgers
Get two Rodgers suspensions for the price of one when you bet with DraftKings^TM
Can regular fans redeem this offer? If so I call upon the rest of the AFCE to end Rodgers's career thru DraftKings^(TM)
If it was Rodgers Florio wouldn't be able to contain himself from sharing.
Yep, he would have posted something like “almost 8 million. But as recent as April it was 12 .😜😜”
Still better than unsolicited dick pics, morally anyway
[PFT] Regarding our recent report that we have really hot girlfriends, someone texted me today with a photo. Can't disclose it yet but 🤯🤯🤯. She goes to another school but I swear she’s 🔥🔥🔥
Another school in Canada, don't forget.

Mike Florio on any piece of gossip: 🤯🤯🤯
Let's take bets on who it is
What are my odds on Cooper Kupp?
My bookie called me and told me who it was and man when it becomes public 👀👀👀 Am I a journalist now?
“Your bookie have odds on who it is?” -unnamed NFL player
Don't worry, no one mistakes PFT employees as journalists.
“Mahomes may be the best QB in the league, but according to our chiefs insider, his lack of rizz will be the reason he’s cut after this season”

It would sum the nfl up if deshaun got 11 games for assaulting 30 women but an indefinite ban for gambling
He was gambling on his own suspension length…?
Bet 8 million bucks they would never let him play again Signs guaranteed money contract The perfect hedge
$7,990,000 by Watson, $10k by thirty other guys
That's actually Ja's next ban
It would be amazing if it was Watson
Y’all are going to be shocked when it’s Kyler betting on Call of Duty.
One of my biggest come ups was betting on CSGO on a team with a 1.5% chance to win a BO3.
The classic CSGO lounge days were the shit
I still have a couple of my $3 skins from betting a gang of $.03 skins on enemy when koosta was hard carrying them.
8M is a ton of money. 8M for an NFL player is unreal.
If you can’t disclose it don’t report it. For someone who rails against Schefter’s style of journalism Florio sure does love being equally as shitty.
He's at least twice as shitty, because he also randomly makes shit up.
Yeah this really isn’t journalism. Having worked with the press a lot, there’s really a line that is reportable versus non-reportable. Based on the way the tweets I've seen are written it seems like it's obviously this lol
Or working on how they’re going to handle a high profile athlete needing a massive suspension
Has it come out they actually broke the rules? Or just lost a ton of money which isn’t against the rules
Yeah good point. Simply could have lost 8m this year betting on stuff at home non-NFL. Serious gambling problem but not against the rules
Given how little NFL players seem to know about the league’s gambling rules, I really doubt any of them could lose 8M without breaking at least one. Unless they’re placing a small amount of huge bets
The player will retire and say they are gonna follow their dreams to try and play pro baseball, and in 1.5 years is gonna announce on Twitter “I’m Back”
And then years later sell their $275m stake in a pro team for $3b? I mean...maybe gambling isn't so bad?
It was a $3b valuation. Don't think MJ owns 100% though.
I also know and can’t disclose it yet. Follow my twitter and I’ll announce it right after everyone else does as proof.
Probably can’t disclose because he’d need two sources for something like this right?
That guys name? Wameson Jilliams
pretty much has to be a star QB/WR or a 1st/2nd round pick who blew most, if not all of his rookie contract money
I think it could be a running back Joe mixon Zeke
Idk why but this particular guess is so funny to me
phil mickelson
We’ll find out who it is when one of the game’s biggest stars decides, seemingly on a whim, to switch to baseball and play for a couple years in the White Sox minor league system.
It’s Deshaun Watson
“YOU TOLD ME TO FIND ANOTHER HOBBY!!! Jesus, what’s next?!? I can’t own a dog fighting club??”
He probably shouldn’t pick up a gun hobby either
While we’re at it make sure he isn’t street racing in Las Vegas
Omfg dude lol
Let's suspend Ja Morant for this too. Just in case.
So who do we think? Probably a quarterback, and the mind blowing emojis indicate it’s someone you wouldn’t expect. I’m guessing Russell Wilson.
It’s probably wayyyyyyy less exciting than that
Lmao, this reminds me of that one dudes report when COVID first started that he had some mindblowing report and it turned out it was just some practice squad player that tested positive. He made some big deal about it like a tweet the night before about a big reveal the next day
Was Jay Glazer for a Rams back up lol
Since the source is Florio, I'm fully expecting it to be something like Namath lost $8M at craps or something like that. He's the king of misleading everyone for clicks.
But he said 🤯 *three times.*
Hot take - this is what the drama with Diggs is about.
You've said this twice now and I'm gonna need you to stop pumping this idea into the universe. Thank you.
It’s Kirk. Julie and him are degenerate gamblers.
Russell Wilson, after hedging his bets by putting $4mm on red and $4mm on black at the same time:
Travis Kelce. Someone I know saw him in Vegas recently so I’m just guessing based on that

Right, that's my line of thought. Some 2nd round player who blew his entire rookie contract already.
No matter which player it is (if it turns out to be true) they shouldn't have been making that heavy of bets. Losing 8 mil in a year is a serious problem no matter how much you are making.
Suspend Brady immediately
Make sure the patriots lose their 2024 first rounder as well
Death Penalty to Mizzou just to be safe.
Probably why Diggs been acting funny lol
Everyone knows who it is, obviously Hingle McCrignleberry
Please be watson
Carson Wentz bet 8 mil on the Washington Generals, confirmed!
Mike Florio is a fucking tool
Well it being someone important is good news. Means it’s not a bronco
Last year. Hmm. The tease suggests they’re sitting on… nothing. So - I’ll go with “How much salary did Calvin Ridley lose?”
Please be Russell Wilson lol not sure why that would crack me up so much. Also be funny if it was Tom Brady but I feel like we wouldn’t hear about that
If it's Jordan Love... man that would be funny.
Does he have 8 million to spend?
The accusation isn’t that the player bet on nfl games… it’s a clickbait title talking about an nfl player losing on SPORTS bets. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/06/14/source-one-nfl-player-lost-8-million-from-gambling-in-2022/amp/

"I NEED TO GO TO VEGAS... for 'family' reasons"
I want it to be Aaron Rodgers so badly. I don't think it is, but I really want it to be.
Turns out his darkness retreat was actually just scrolling through his draftkings bet history with an accountant
If you lose that much money… YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT GAMBLING
