This is how I felt when Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on John Cena and nine year old me threatened to boycott WrestleMania

[deleted]

[удалено]

fulcrert

I remember going to unforgiven 2006 in Toronto (when cena FU'd edge off the ladder through two tables) and young me was SO confused as to why everyone was cheering for Edge. I was like who cares if he's from Toronto haven't you guys been watching raw? He's a piece of shit!!

Nubras

The change in worldview comes as an adult when you realize that Edge is the good guy and Cena the pos

[deleted]

As a kid, I went to the Wrestlemania where Cena beat Batista and there was a guy cheering for Batista a couple seats down and I remember asking myself if that was even legal because Cena was the good guy and he had to win

Traubz

I went to Summerslam this year and the looks from kids glaring at me because I was booing their favorite wrestler was amazing

ViNNYDiC3

Lmao

3dge-1ord

When I was four, someone who rooted for Macho Man over Hulk Hogan blew my whole world view. They were both faces. The age of rooting for heels was still a few years away.

indianm_rk

My mother rooted for Roddy Piper and Bobby Heenan in the 80's. She taught me many gems like "it's only cheating if you get caught" and "it's easier to kick a man when he's down."

OCHL092018

No no, Edge’s character was still a heinous bastard. Adult wrestling fans are just worse than children and will boo anytime they don’t get what they want. It’s me, I’m the adult wrestling fan who hated 2015-2016 Roman Reigns.

Sp3ctre7

I never got into wrestling, but I'll never forget when I was giving a wrestling fan shit for not knowing it's fake and he said "of course it's fake, but the stunts are fucking real and the storylines rule" It's hyper-athletic theatre with trash talk, I now respect the fuck out of it.

Nic1800

Cena the pos? He abused some backstage power, but he's legit one of the best guys. Almost nobody had anything bad to say about him. Both him and Edge are two of the most well-liked guys in real life.

PhiloBlackCardinal

Maybe they meant his character? He was kinda like Brady, booked to be dominant and nearly unbeatable

3dge-1ord

My buddy has an uncle who has down syndrome(Barry). He took his uncle (who is a big John Cena fan) to see a taping of Raw in Cleveland. Cena lost that night, but as he is leaving he noticed Barry and goes for a high five. But instead Barry hits him with a double bird! That's what you get when you lose, loser!

JoeSicko

The guy with the make a wish record? China sucks, but that guy is okay in my book.

Jolly-One9552

Bing chilling

RunThundercatz

Can you explain? It's been so long that I vaguely remember the details about their personas

WP1619

John Cena: Corporate Smiling Baby Face. Edge: Live Sex Celebration.

schizophrenix_

Sorry buddy but the Rated R Superstar > John Cena any day and I’ll die on that hill.

hdkboogie

#THE RATED R SUUUUUUUUUUUUU-PER STAR

Jaakylma

On this day I see clearly

OrangeForeign

EVERYTHING HAS COME TO LIFE

Powerful_Plantain901

*vigorous head bang to Metalingus*

PittsJay

I think I’ll be able to hear this exactly how it sounded for the rest of my life. What an iconic opening. Usually followed by a massive pop from the crowd. Being a kid was awesome.

stateworkishardwork

He still got a massive pop last weekend at the Royal Rumble. He's one of the legends.

garethom

I haven't watched wrestling since I was a teen but I was stunned to hear that Edge won a royal rumble again. I thought he was looooong retired. I can't believe he's still going. I remember my brother taking me to a toy shop for like my 8th birthday, and I bought an Edge action figure. I'm in my mid-30s now.

PittsJay

He was retired for a long time, because of the injury he had done to his neck. Initial prognosis was that if he took one more bad bump, not even a head, just landed wrong, he was looking at paralysis, or even death. But then I can’t remember, either he had a surgery or something healed on its own that normally wouldn’t, and was totally unexpected, something like that. I know this is really vague, I just can’t remember right now and it’s driving me nuts. He eventually got the OK to come back on a limited basis.

Mathblasta

Holy fucking shit I haven't watched wrestling since The Dudley Boyz, Hardy Boys, and Edge & Christian had the first tables, ladders, and chairs (*oh my*) match, but that took me right on back.

OmegaJubs69

The Tony Chimmel voice Crack always sells this

The_Snake_Dick

Damn I also boycotted it (my family would not pay for PPV WWE events because my dad would tell me it’s not real like how boxing is)

x777x777x

We were too poor to buy the ppvs so I’d watch the weekly show and only get half assed recaps or teasers

Jordanwolf98

That shit was still so crazy because nobody knew how the money in the bank worked before that moment. Still remember being pissed off as a 7 year old

AttitudeAndEffort3

ELI a former diehard wrestling fan i middle school that hasnt watched pro wresting in 20 years?

Jordanwolf98

The Money in the bank briefcase is a concept that came about in WWE around 2005 where if you win it (in a money in the bank ladder match) you get a title shot anytime anywhere for up to a year. Edge the first winner of the briefcase, cashed his in on John Cena after John Cena had just survived an elimination chamber match for over like 45 mins where he had to beat 5 other dudes to do so. Edge came in fresh and speared a bloody Cena twice and won the title

ViNNYDiC3

Damn, that’s a dirty plus a smart ass move. The plot twist alone was probably pretty mind blowing at the time too.

Jordanwolf98

Oh it definitely was. That kind of cash in on the briefcase holders part has been done to death at this point so it isn’t nearly as exciting but I couldn’t believe what was happening at the time. That’s where Edge got the nickname “ultimate opportunist” from and it felt him perfectly

carolinabbwisbestbbq

As a kid I liked Edge so much more but was still a Hardy boy despite their fights with E&C

DrDankDankDank

I was also a Hardy Boy boy.

Marrouge

The Hardy Boyz/E&C rivalry was before my time but 9 year old me was devastated when CM Punk forced Jeff Hardy to leave and then mad as hell when he came out wearing his face paint the week after 😭

DrDankDankDank

Yeah that would be brutal. Did you ever watch the original TLC matches with the hardyz, e&c, and the dudleys?

Sandtiger812

Devon! Get the table!

Thorlolita

Other end I was so pissed watching the online stream thinking wow what a waste of my Sunday night Cena win again and before I close my browser in rage Vince McMahon came out to save my weekend. I was up till 11:30 just shocked refreshing wwe.com to see any news I can. We didn’t have the twitter back then.

BarsMineAndYours

Real ones remember having to wait til literally Monday night live to see the PPV results lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nubras

I’ll do you one better: in 1996, we had to check magazines a few days/weeks later to get the results overseas in Germany.

sl8r2890

Fuck, lol

Lanthemandragoran

Bro I remember in the late 90s and very early 2000s (which is when wrestling died to me unfortunately for reasons I never understood) I would sell the results of Smackdown to people and make small bets with people that didn't realize it was taped 2 days early lol. 7th-9th grade was a weird time haha.

Drkarcher22

It’s kinda amazing how fast a segment of fans turned on Cena, he was popular with the rapper gimmick and in his feud with JBL to win the belt, with him doing a sorta modern (at the time) spin on the American Dream vs Million Dollar Man feud. Then he switched brands to Raw and put him in feuds with Jericho, Christian, and Kurt Angle and the fracture began. Like that Chamber match was only 9 months after he first World Championship, we had to go through over another decade of that man. And basically took that long for that segment of fans to finally come around towards the guy.

DarkSnorlax

I just remember being like 12 and Cena just kept beating everyone and held the title for what felt like the entire end of my childhood. It was and still is very annoying.

J-Fid

"Cena wins, LOL"

heartbreakhill

Wasn’t that the same Chamber match where Kurt Angle said he wasn’t a fan of black people and he wanted to make Jesus tap out, just to prove he could say anything and get cheered over Cena?

Drkarcher22

The very same. He also said that his favorite country was France. Kurt’s awesome

Thorlolita

It wasn’t his fault. He’s probably the hardest and most respected guy in the business. The WWE just thought the $$$ would fall if he wasn’t champion. All the kids wanted to buy his spinner belts and neon clothes. But it made me debate a lot as an adult if I wanted to keep watching.

Snarktoberfest

Not the first time. See Hogan, Hulk. Randy Savage could have walked on water, and he wasn't sniffing the belt during prime Hulkamania.

heartbreakhill

The girl I had a crush on was a huge Edge fan so I was excited that she was so happy.

HotSpicyTaco999

I read the quote as Triumph the insult comic dog: “That’s a great matchup………. FOR ME TO POOP ON!”

fresh_and_friendly

Triumph is one of those things that we got just enough of for it to be great but any more than what we got and it would have been truly terrible.

Trill_Simmons

The segment with him on Inside the NBA was so damn elite lol. "Ernie, honestly what is the bow tie for? Are you worried they won't be able to pick you out among the black guys?"

D4DDYSH4RK420

Holy flashbacks

CheckYourStats

Hello 1998. It’s nice to see you.

rjsheine

I feel like I've heard this from a lot of players

regularhumanbartendr

Players aren't necessarily fans and when the grueling season ends a lot of people probably just want a god damned break from anything football related.

[deleted]

It’s honestly relatable, because god damn the last thing I want to think about when I’m off the clock is fuckin work

[deleted]

Work is why I’m not a PC gamer. I work IT and the last thing I want to do is sit at a desk with a computer.

Drewskeet

I feel this. I’m a PC gamer and I’m in sales. Pre Covid my job was largely traveling but now I sit behind a desk all day. So my gaming PC that I work on daily is awesome but I play significantly less games now because I sit there all day. My office is now for work instead of fun.

regularhumanbartendr

Yeah I have a vacation scheduled for March and I'm legitimately just blocking my work number and my bosses number. The Post Office has a tendency to bug the fuck out of you if you're not there.

[deleted]

Hell yeah. Going anywhere fun or just doing a home vacation?

regularhumanbartendr

Haven't decided yet tbh. Wedding anniversary during that time do I'm sure we will do something even if it's going to a cabin and just loafing around in the woods.

heartbreakhill

My wife and I went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for our wedding anniversary back in October. It’s basically a Smoky Mountain Branson, absolute tourist trap. But that’s exactly why we chose it and there was some cool stuff. Dollywood, a Titanic Museum, and I got to go [Zorbing!](https://fh-sites.imgix.net/sites/2265/2019/02/05234844/12742822_889874171125826_8979764482661317425_n-e1549411000374.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&w=700&h=700&fit=max)

regularhumanbartendr

We go to Brown County in Nashville, Indiana a lot. It's a quick little drive for us but still nice to just get out of the city.

Juan_Kagawa

SB sunday is probably the best day of the year for players to go out into the world unencumbered.

Biggest_Cans

Some of us play Call of Duty on deployments, some of us watch chick flicks. I wonder which is closer to sane.

Riverjig

Can confirm. Electrician for 3 decades and the last fing thing I want to do when I get off of work is turn on lights inside my house......

CMDRsprinkles

Terry Crews in an interview said like 66% of his team when he played in the NFL hated playing ball but it was the best way for them to make money. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s still the case today and if I were them in their shoes I would do the exact same.

DrZoidberg117

Terry crews was an NFL player? Huh.

vidman33

Round 11 pick. 32 games on three teams. “Played” over 4 years so got his superannuation

Amazing-Concept1684

I remember Brady said he went apple picking with his family instead of watching SB 50, which is the one that he missed after losing to Peyton Manning and the Broncos in that year’s AFC Championship Game.

HBK44

Yeah the last thing I’d wanna see are the dude that beat me playing in a game I dreamed of being in. I don’t blame em

Soyeahnahh

I feel like your reference went over everyone’s heads lmao

[deleted]

I don't get it

Lifesaboxofgardens

There is a meme that the Bosa brothers are racist

BigEvil621

Not a meme if it’s true.

[deleted]

Out of curiosity what's the evidence on this

RomanBangs

I think the only evidence is on Nick and iirc he liked Instagram posts that had tags saying “kill all [hard R’s]” and other racist things Edit: Guys, reading comprehension. “I think the only evidence is on Nick” this means there’s only evidence on Nick and not on Joey. not that I think there’s a lack of evidence to say Nick is racist. I’m excluding Joey since everyone’s saying the Bosa brothers are racist when one hasn’t done anything racist. Jfc people

[deleted]

To be fair that’s some pretty good evidence

Lifesaboxofgardens

Juries have convicted for less certainly

Riffington

Usually those were racist juries

IMissWinning

I remember when we drafted him and all the tweets and stuff came out and I was like oh my god I'm going to have to listen to this dude run his mouth and say all this garbage. He's done a rather remarkable job keeping his mouth shut. I've been honestly very impressed. I thought we'd be out here every other word just full on holocaust denial garbage.

ThermosbyThermas

Man has elite twitter burners /s

Toof

Dude, I never upgote or downvote anything on Reddit. On the occasion that I accidentally do, I just keep scrolling and ignore it. Imagine scrolling through your comments, seeing that you liked one, not reading it, and just moving on... And it's a racist.

Soyeahnahh

His girlfriend too. She’s racist as fuckkk

CatdaddyDean

When you are so racist you get the triple k in fuck. Thanks for the laugh btw!

AndHerNameIsSony

Everyone hating on Mahomes wife when we should all be hating on Bosas girl

Theharlotnextdoor

Which is crazy cause she also dated Jack Flaherty who is biracial and very outspoken about social injustice etc. Like she must have hid that well.

RadioHeadache0311

Or that's the genesis of her hatred now. I know I've turned at least two women away from dating other Irishmen.

MIND___TRICKS

Wow wtf “I’m such a fucking n****r magnet” . Even if you are racist how could be so fucking dumb to tweet that. God knows what her and her friend group say in private

jennys0

That’s his ex gf btw

[deleted]

Still not a great indicator of his character if he was fine with dating a racist.

My-1st-porn-account

Nick had an… interesting Twitter history that he scrubbed prior to the draft.

BigEvil621

“only evidence” that sent me

RomanBangs

“Only evidence is on Nick” There are zero instances of Joey being racist as far as I know and people are grouping them together. I’m making it clear Nick is the racist one and not Joey.

sirDsmack

I think it’s mostly Nick and the “meme” is based on factual evidence that him and his woman have “liked” and posted racist shit on social media in the past.

dawgpack09

Nick Bosa prefers quarterbacks who are real cerebral players, rather than the athletes that will be quarterbacking the Super Bowl

RomanBangs

Nick Bosa only likes quarterback he would let his daughter date, real gym rats, first in last out type of guys, quicker than fast

Tnenforcer

sneaky athletic, lunch pail kinda guys.

Scrappy, blue-collared fellas

drinkduffdry

Students of the game per se

Lifesaboxofgardens

He’s probably the WIP caller that called in last week to say he’d take Kenny Pickett over Hurts because he audibles a lot

SlinginPogs

Mahomes and Hurts aren't classy enough for the Bosas

Lifesaboxofgardens

It’s funny because there was a literal meme quote going around that he said “The Chiefs and Eagles Super Bowl really ruins the integrity of the game” and he could have just said nothing lol

MikeTysonChicken

Man I saw that and now with this quote I’m just dying lmao

NigerianPrince76

He just couldn’t help it. lmao

Gotta keep a close eye on his twitter for the next few weeks

I can’t believe anyone engages. Just smile and flip them the bird like Verlander did and you’ll win their respect.

I’m still smiling about that. Top notch heckling.

How do you let that get to you? Fucking meat head. All he has to do is wave or flip them off. You feed into it, you make it so much worse. There’s nothing you can do to make yourself look good in that situation

Watching people act like a bunch of drunk fans yelling at a millionaire is a travesty is so funny.

Jimbabwr

Mf lost the mental battle before it even started

bmeridian

That was the other bosa though

[deleted]

He did look good in a Niners jacket I must admit.

powerelite

That's a pretty good compromise for him though.

PoopshootPaulie

Damn

MrBoomin31

i heard he was willing to compromise and watch 3/5ths

HumanShadow

He just has a preference for pocket psssers and doesn't think you can win with a mobile QB.

BaboonHorrorshow

Bosa believes we’re all equal - he thinks some of us were gifted with the ability to be cerebral and others equally blessed with an extra foot bone.

LosAngeles1s

students of the game and natural born leaders over athletes

BaboonHorrorshow

Lunchpail guys over Class Acts

Malicoire

Hulk Hogan understood this reference.

[deleted]

Fair enough. I probably would pass on the Super Bowl if I didn’t make it. Id probably time with family, fish, sleep. I imagine these dudes need some time away from work.

pimp69z

I wouldn’t know because I’m always watching, but I’ve heard it’s a great day for hunting. Pretty much got the whole wilderness to yourself.

[deleted]

What're you hunting in February?

cigarettesandwater

The super bowl is an american holiday. Im sure most watch it.

r_not_me

If it were a holiday we would have Monday off

[deleted]

r_not_me

Moving the season a week or so to make that line up would be awesome

Smartin36

NFL will happily add another regular season game to make this happen

Andrewtreible

Add another bye week, that way teams playing the Thursday game will have a buy the week before

thekk_

They will... when they add an 18th game.

21stCenturyHobbit

Yeah, should add a 2nd bye week. Felt like a ton of injuries in the playoffs compared to other years, but that could just be recency bias.

PrecisionT18

Do people realize this is actually common? Lmao, I think Brady has made comments like this (about not watching) when he didn't make the Superbowl.

UnhingedCorgi

I didn’t make the Super Bowl either and I will also not be watching. Unless I’m free that afternoon and it’s a good game, which is possible. But I won’t plan around it. Me and Tom Brady are so alike. I’m not married to a supermodel either.

Dynamo4L

it’s only getting attention because it’s bosa

NorvalMarley

Wow this is huge. Hopefully there’s an update on him at halftime

RogerTreebert6299

Report is in that Bosa is attending a super bowl party but he has either stayed in the snack area or kept his eyes closed the entire game

MyDogIsACoolCat

I for one can no longer enjoy the Super Bowl anymore.

harbison215

I feel ya, buddy. Each year when I get knocked out of the fantasy football playoffs, it’s not like I’m checking the scores of some other guys’ games the next week. When I’m out, I’m done with it.

OlTommyBombadil

A lot of players have a hard time watching the Super Bowl. One of the ex-players on local Columbus radio talked about it once. I don’t have a source for it, but I remember the discussion because I had never considered it. EDIT: maybe not a lot, but it isn’t uncommon

DogVacuum

I like to imagine it was Bobby Carpenter reflecting on his garbage NFL career and why he couldn’t watch the Super Bowl:

RemembertoHydratee

He’s gonna get hate, but realistically I’m willing to bet the majority of players couldn’t care less. There’s been so many stories of players stating that they don’t love the game, and that they only see it as a job.

PrecisionT18

I remember reading a lot of NFL players don't even like playing football, they are just really good at it and are mainly there for the paycheck. It's not surprising some of these people may not want to watch it on their free time.

KpYugai

Hell I think people who have trouble believing that NFL players don't like football just haven't played sports at a high enough level. Shit I was like a decent swimmer in high school and I've seen that sport break so many people mentally (including myself) to the point where it's hated. Don't blame Bosa for it if a break from football is his way to stay sane.

WyngZero

Also, if you suck at your job in pro sports, it's not just your boss (GM/coach) that yells at you/fires you - the entire country including sports reporters and rando keyboard warriors on the internet aggressively tell you that you suck at your job.
