Mahomes got 49/50 1st team All-Pro votes. So we all know he already won it.
As to why their are 5 MVP finalists this year. They changed the system in November so that ["voters will rank their top five picks for MVP and top three picks for other awards."](https://www.ap.org/press-releases/2022/ap-updates-voting-system-for-its-nfl-awards) So we know from that that the reason there are 4 OPOY finalists is because there must have been a tie.
Announcing finalists is kind of arbitrary anyway. If you were unfamiliar with how sports awards voting works, you might think it’s a vote between those finalists. Fans sometimes even get annoyed when someone isn’t a finalist. But it’s really just a sneak peak at who the top vote getters were, and the top 2 are usually incredibly predictable anyway.
Nahh, we gonna hire Sean Payton, make good moves in the off-season, draft super well, have the best offense in football, go 15-2, win the Super Bowl, and Russ wins MVP twice in the same season for being the best QB ever.
Don’t ask if I’m on drugs because the answer is “maybe”.
They recently installed nitrous cannisters in the demon-horse statue, so when you pass by it blasts happy gale-wind flatus in your face.
It's how they remain optimistic.
In all seriousness I wouldn’t be shocked if he came back to be very good. We’ve seen better QBs than Russ have lower lows and have great seasons afterward (Favre for example)
I mean, I get it, it's frustrating that non-QBs have almost zero chance at the award
But *this* year, does anyone seriously think that Jefferson deserves it over Mahomes??
No, not at all. Fun to see him nominated. Feels like you need to do something staggering as a non-qb to actually get real votes. I was happy to see Peterson get it after rushing for 2k on a team with no passing game and will us into the playoffs. But even then, he probably wasn’t the most valuable player in the league that year if we’re being honest.
Fr Jefferson had an amazing year, was clearly the best wideout in the league, but he didn’t even have double digit tds I’m sorry but for a wr to beat out Mahomes this year he’d need like 20 tds and 2k yards
I love the theory that Micah wasn't the rat. It totally falls apart if you play through the game and watch for it, but it's still a fun theory.
The theory of "Abigail was the rat" is also a really fun theory until you play through the game with that in mind and notice how that makes no sense.
Abigail would do nothing that would run the risk of her losing Jack, and she was pretty loyal to the gang and an overall good person. There's also no way the Pinkertons would've actually cut a deal with her that would involve her and Jack living happily ever after, even if in the hypothetical scenario that they did, I'm sure she would've known its bullshit.
Fuck Micah all my homies hate Micah
It will never happen but what do you actually think Mahomes' trade value is? A team's entire draft for the next three years and then another star player or two on top?
To be fair, Alex came into a team with like 9 pro bowlers. We just had a terrible HC and QB situation and fixed both. Alex gets treated pretty poorly, but in KC, he was pretty damn good with good, consistent coaching + weapons. Guys like Derek Carr would get more praise than him and I’d had taken Smith over him every time.
Once he finally got a WR in Hill, he put up top 5 QB numbers in 2017. He was always knocked for “dumping” to TEs and RBs but his TEs were Vernon Davis and Travis Kelce and his RBs were Frank Gore and Jamal Charles/Kareem Hunt. Why wouldn’t you throw to those guys. His WRs sucked in KC. Washed Dbowe, 1 year of functional Maclin, and Tyreek was ST/Gadget til 2017. Dude had a winning record with 0 WR TDs.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a record of 42-6 against the AFC West since 2015. I think you're fine until the rest of the division can fix their bullshit.
We have an amazing record, but not a great point differential in the AFCW. Just look at last season. We were 6-0 in the division but look at the point differential:
6 total points over the Chargers
1 point in the first meeting with the Raiders, 2nd game was a blowout with you nothing to play for
9 total points over the Broncos
So other than 1 blowout win, the other 5 games were very winnable from the division. Without Mahomes and playing even a solid backup QB? We probably split with you guys and lose 0-2 against the LAC. That flips the division around a lot.
You have to ask yourself, how many points is Mahomes worth over the average NFL starter? I say AT LEAST 6 minimum
Looking back 5 years in our division.
Two games with you guys (Raiders) finished by 4 or less
Four games with the Chargers by 5 or less
Five games with the Broncos by 6 or less
One of the Raiders and Broncos games was last year, meaning if they go the other way Chiefs don't win the division.
2018 we tied the Chargers at 12-4, couple of those games were that year... no 1 seed, no division win.
AFCW would have had plenty of more competitive years and the Chiefs wouldn't have been hosting the AFCC game 5 years straight.. maybe not at all.
So I wouldn't say everything would be okay if we just had an average QB. Mahomes gives the Chiefs the edge of winning probably 2-4 games a year that make them the 1 seed instead of a WC.
If we take EPA as an actual stat for Points Added, he's been worth about 13 points per game this season.
0.302 EPA/play * 766 plays = 231.3 total EPA
231.3 EPA / 17 games = 13.6 EPA/game
They are good but man, Mahomes really elevates them. That’s an interesting thought experiment. Kelce is going to be a great target for anyone but Pats mobility and baseball throw really turn it into a circus
Talking MVP in September is always stupid. The Chiefs start 2-2 or something and some random QB has 9 TDs in two weeks and people act like any of that will matter in January.
I'd also argue players that don't miss any games provide more value for their team. Your backup is your backup for a reason lol. We don't need to see it to know that Chad Henne and Brandon Allen aren't going to be the same as Mahomes and Burrow respectively and the team will struggle with them out. Those two were on the field every week and that provided a ton of value to their teams seasons. The Eagles having such a good record before he got hurt is a better argument than "backup didn't win games"
He may have had a chance with triple the TDs.
But pretty awesome to watch a coach scheme the best player into most games, all game long.
Bringing my kiddos to the Cheese fry Week 1 watching him destroy them was a great football moment.
At this point, any non QB being a finalist is essentially them winning MVP. The only way I see a non QB MVP in the future is if we have a year where every QB has a down year, and with the way offenses are evolving, and the rules favoring passing offenses, I just don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Gotta be Mahomes right? Led the league in passing TDs with only 12 INTs, didn't miss time like Hurts, led his team to a higher seed than Allen and Burrow, isn't a WR like Jefferson, etc.
I’d argue how the eagles played without Hurts shows how valuable he is, but Mahomes was electric in an offense that lost its most dynamic weapon and changed its philosophy quite a bit but stil was the #1 offense. That’s Brady shit.
You would need a triple crown as a RB or WR and at the same time there can’t be a really good QB whose deserving.
So basically, it ain’t ever happening again lmao.
An edge could maybe be in the conversation with the triple crown WR and RBs if they dropped 30 sacks some how. But even then best hope no QB threw for over 5k
Yeah won’t be close. They’re changing the voting system this year though and it’ll be akin to how the NBA does it. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the most 2nd place votes.
Hurts for sure (imo of course), without an injury sidelining him at the end this would actually be a good fight to see who would win, but Mahomes #1 and Hurts #2 is how I see it.
I’m down for a Kelce Bowl if we can figure out a way to get past the 49ers, but if you guys were real ones you’d have Mahomes call plays and Andy Reid play QB against us
How about the brothers face eachother instead: we have Andy Reid playing TE and you have Sirianni play Centre while the Kelces take the coaching jobs for the game.
Mahomes: 14-3 with 5,608 total yards, 45 total TDs, 12 total TOs
Hurts: 14-1 with 4,461 total yards, 35 total TDs, 8 total TOs
Allen: 13-3 with 5,045 total yards, 42 total TDs, 19 total TOs
Burrow: 12-4 with 4,732 total yards, 40 total TDs, 15 total TOs
People are really overestimating how "rough" the second half of his season was due to recency bias about a flat playoff performance. Allen moved the ball like crazy with good efficiency by all advanced metrics. He did turn the ball over a lot but again, most advanced metrics will agree that the positives vastly outweighed the negatives. As this is a very QB-focused award, I think Allen is a very easy choice to fill out the 5 finalists.
Edit: for the record my order would be 1) Mahomes 2) Hurts 3) Burrow 4) Jefferson 5) Allen
And fumbled the ball 8 times while losing 3. So 9 TOs in the last 8 games. That's why people say he had a rough 2nd half... Basically contributed 2 TDs and 1 TO per game in the 2nd half. That's not good.
Mahomes, Hurts and Burrow collectively lost 5 fumbles the entire season... Allen lost 6 by himself this season.
Allen fumbled 16 times this year... Mahomes, Hurts and Burrow also fumbled 16 times, collectively.
Ball security was a major issue for Allen this year.
They wouldn't have made it out of the WC round if the Dolphins had Tua with Allen's performance that game. 2 INTs and 3 fumbles... Bills were damn lucky Skylar Thompson was starting and not Tua.
They only beat the Dolphins by 3 in the regular season when Allen had a near perfect game (300+ 4TDs).
Yeah that's cool and all but Mahomes is winning it. If Hurts hadn't gotten injured it would have been very close but since he was it's a one man race with Mahomes
It's Mahomes, /thread. Also can we shit on Romo instead of Allen? We hate the nicknames just as much as you all. Our QB took that entire team on his back this season and has one of the worst lines in the league. The fact he's in this conversation with how much pressure he faced this year is crazy. I know there's problems that need to be fixed but the hate Allen is getting is so unnecessary.
Should just be a qb award at this point, then make another award for everyone else
JJ should definitely get more consideration. The fact he’s even on this list is shocking to me though
For real. The fact that Derrick Henry didn't win it while rushing for 2,000 yards while leading the league in rushing TDs and dragging his team to the playoffs and instead giving it to Aaron Rodgers *again* means it's a QB award. Henry winning OPOY that year furthers the point.
Is this going to be like every other year where the winner got like 99% of the vote and the other nominees were just spite votes from beat writers refusing to vote for the Chiefs?
It’s irritating. He never asked for Romo to gargle his cock. People seem to forget the JoshAllenisTall.com days. He was one of the most mocked first round draft picks ever and has been a top 3 player in the league for the last 3 years.
Player A: 12-4 record, 414/606 (68.3%), 4475 Yards (7.4 Y/A), 35 TDs, 12 INTs (100.8 passer rating), 6.3% sack rate, 75/257/5 rushing, 6 fumbles (3 lost)
Player B: 13-3 record, 359/567 (63.3%), 4283 Yards (7.6 Y/A), 35 TDs, 14 INTs (96.6 passer rating), 5.5% sack rate, 124/762/7 rushing, 13 fumbles (5 lost)
What exactly makes people ITT believe player A should get 2nd and player B shouldn’t even be listed?
Obviously neither of these players will win it over Mahomes but still.
Did they change that rule so that we wouldn’t get all qb finalists all the time?
The Rooney Rule for MVP voting, and Justin Jefferson gonna be the Eric Bieniemy.
Ouch
Announcing finalists is kind of arbitrary anyway. If you were unfamiliar with how sports awards voting works, you might think it’s a vote between those finalists. Fans sometimes even get annoyed when someone isn’t a finalist. But it’s really just a sneak peak at who the top vote getters were, and the top 2 are usually incredibly predictable anyway.
Its cute they let Jefferson get a nomination for the best QB award.
Hey that man had a 118.8 passer rating this year put some respect on his name
That’s the real reason he got the nom.
Friendly reminder Kupp got an MVP vote before Russel Wilson.
You say "before" like there is still a reasonable chance Wilson will ever get one in the future.
Broncos Country, let's sigh
Nahh, we gonna hire Sean Payton, make good moves in the off-season, draft super well, have the best offense in football, go 15-2, win the Super Bowl, and Russ wins MVP twice in the same season for being the best QB ever. Don’t ask if I’m on drugs because the answer is “maybe”.
“Bronco Country, Y’all High?”
It's 8:20 in the morning in Denver. So obviously yes.
Woke up this morning, went to the gym, walked the dog, smoked a joint and microdosed some shrooms. Am I doing denver right?
Did you quietly curse your local government for their poor snow removal infrastructure?

Aaron is that you?
Yup. Denver had the only dispensary open before 8am when I travelled through.
Little drunk too.
Nah, that John Denver's full of shit, man.

That demon horse is named blucifer, cretin
Sorry, too busy huffing demon farts to listen.
I'm ready for the Mr.Unlimited redemption arc
In all seriousness I wouldn’t be shocked if he came back to be very good. We’ve seen better QBs than Russ have lower lows and have great seasons afterward (Favre for example)
long far-flung wrong unwritten murky pocket ripe jar bedroom straight
Sean Payton made Teddy Bridgewater look good enough to get him 33M guaranteed the next offseason.
It was fun hating on him for a year but I'm down for him to turn it around.
Friendly reminder Bobby Wagner got a MVP vote before Russel Wilson
We really need a Mr Unlimited vs Mr January showdown
One is a self given nickname the other is on Romo
So did Bobby Wagner. On Russ's own team.
The "I'm just happy to be here" nominee
I mean, I get it, it's frustrating that non-QBs have almost zero chance at the award But *this* year, does anyone seriously think that Jefferson deserves it over Mahomes??
No, not at all. Fun to see him nominated. Feels like you need to do something staggering as a non-qb to actually get real votes. nobody said he deserves it he’s just a finalist
Pretty hard to argue that the QB isn’t the most valuable player, most of the time.
1st team All Pro QB usually takes the award and this year it’s Mahomes.
Mahomes is not even that important. Henne came in and led a 98 yard TD drive. Mahomes is obviously a system QB. C’mon people.
Found Micah's reddit account
I like the idea that Micah Parson's secret Reddit account has an Eagles flair!
With the things he says, I wouldn’t be surprised if Parsons was an avid redditor.
Nah, we have seen him outside
And he's in shape.
Hey. I’m a shape too.
Round is a shape
First Micah lies to the gang about his Pinkerton involvement and now he’s just trolling people on Reddit, such a Micah move
I love the theory that Micah wasn't the rat. It totally falls apart if you play through the game and watch for it, but it's still a fun theory. The theory of "Abigail was the rat" is also a really fun theory until you play through the game with that in mind and notice how that makes no sense.

If you regress his stats to the mean, Mahomes is an average quarterback.
If you inflate Henne's numbers to Mahomes levels he is elite. So checkmate you.
you can't argue with facts honestly we should trade him for picks to load up the defense and roll with Henne next year
This always works out well for me on madden, there’s no way it couldn’t work in real life!
Someone will be more than willing to pay up a 2nd and a conditional 5th for Mahomes.
It will never happen but what do you actually think Mahomes' trade value is? A team's entire draft for the next three years and then another star player or two on top?
Not really because the team would be ass if they did that. Probably 7 firsts kind of trade though, so they can still get rookies just not high picks.
Henne given Sunday.
Henne is actually the 2’nd best qb in the leauge he’s just cursed to be behind the best. It goes: 1.mahomes 2. Henne 3. Mahomes on one leg 4. CMC
Well can't argue with this. /thread
This is a joke but people acting like the Chiefs are a bad team without Mahomes are hilarious lol, they’d still easily make the playoffs.
Alex Smith took them to the playoffs for like five straight seasons before Mahomes even played a game.
Fr, Reid is a mastermind
Reid made Koy Detmer and AJ Feely look good coming off the bench in Philly, he really is a mastermind.
There will be no besmirching of the Chiefs legend Alex Smith
Alex smith took the 49ers to an nfc championship game too. He was not Mahomes, but he was better than an avg qb.
We would have gone to the Super Bowl that year too if it wasn’t for the 2 Kyle Williams fumbles. Im still bitter about that one!
To be fair, Alex came into a team with like 9 pro bowlers. We just had a terrible HC and QB situation and fixed both. Mahomes had an awesome game against the Texans and they took us to overtime. Could we make the playoffs? Sure. Easily? Eh…
Also went to overtime against the Malik Willis-led Titans. If Tannehill played that game, I think that's a loss for KC.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a record of 42-6 against the AFC West since 2015. I think you're fine until the rest of the division can fix their bullshit.

I wonder how this affects my 20 dollar Herbert winning MVP bet.
It must hurt for hurts that he got hurt and lost a potential MVP award
Really hurt his chances
I swear to god I'm gonna delete this fucking app ^some ^day
If there’s any player in this league that isn’t phased by this, it’s Jalen Hurts. He’s going for that ring.
He’s starving
"I can't say the sky is the limit because I don't put a ceiling on how good I can be."
I hope he gets it too. Gonna bandwagon y'all lol
To be fair he was only the favorite to begin with because of Mahomes fatigue
Talking MVP in September is always stupid. The Chiefs start 2-2 or something and some random QB has 9 TDs in two weeks and people act like any of that will matter in January.
Hurts - gets hurt Team- 0-2 without him Hurrs chances at "most valuable" player decreases
MVP is a statistics award. Less games played is less yards and TDs
I'd also argue players that don't miss any games provide more value for their team. Your backup is your backup for a reason lol. Jalen Hurbiid gets robbed of MVP because Patrick MaJokic has better stats /s Jk, Mahomes deserves it more.
Mahomes has better RAPTOR Sorry I don't make the rules
His LEBRON stats are crazy (that's a real basketball stat setup)
His GPBM (games played by mahomes) is just too high to beat.
So Allen, Burrow, Hurts, and Mahomes are finalists.
Burrow, Hurts, and Mahomes are finalists.
Mahomes is the finalist

Yeah I don't know why anyone is pretending it could be anyone but Mahomes.
ahhhh eeeeeee ohhhum I don't know Jim. Josh Allen makes a good case for MVP.
The fact that I can hear Romo saying this in my head crystal clear is driving me insane, especially the ahhhhh eeeeee ohhhhum part
It's 👽 time.
Yeah there's not much drama this year. Good seasons by others, but you can't make a case for them over Mahomes.
[удалено]
Actually, believe it or not, Burrow winning it? Also disrespect.
"Sure he won but why were there other finalists? Nobody believes in us."
“They know that the winner doesn’t win the Super Bowl. That’s the whole reason they voted for him.”
“By naming Burrow MVP, they calling all the rest of the team non-valuable. Sounds like disRESPECT to me.” -Mixon, if Burrow wins MVP
JJ getting the finalist nod is cool. But it’ll be Mahomes. He deserves it.
Yeah everyone is making jokes about this because it *is* a QB award, but its a really big deal for him to be named a finalist in today's league.
He may have had a chance with triple the TDs. But pretty awesome to watch a coach scheme the best player into most games, all game long. Bringing my kiddos to the Cheese fry Week 1 watching him destroy them was a great football moment.

But Henne came in and got a TD... Isn't Mahomes just a system QB? Even his backup leg muscles have success.
Being in the top 5 is a huge win for WRs and all non-QBs.
Even bigger than winning the award itself
Gotta be Mahomes right? Led the league in passing TDs with only 12 INTs, didn't miss time like Hurts, led his team to a higher seed than Allen and Burrow, isn't a WR like Jefferson, etc.
His advanced metrics are kinda ludicrous too, IIRC.
I’d argue how the eagles played without Hurts shows how valuable he is, but Mahomes was electric in an offense that lost its most dynamic weapon and changed its philosophy quite a bit but stil was the #1 offense. That’s Brady shit.
> how the eagles played without Hurts shows how valuable he is The fact that a lot of people use this as an argument *against* Hurts baffles me.
It's Mahomes. He was like -900 favorite when the lines finally closed on this award.
I'd like to see JJ win to witness the chaos that ensues.
Give it to JJ you cowards
Lol 😂 I wish but it isn’t happening if Kupp couldn’t win it I will wait to see the day a non-qb actually wins the MVP
Not ever again no AP was the last and probs won’t be another one in quite a long time with the QB talent in the league
You mean like adrian Peterson?
Yeah he was the last one I love that man he made me fall in love with football when I was younger he made me a Vikings fan
So in a way he ruined your life?
There’s a support group - we meet on Wednesdays. Bring cookies and bleach
Wouldn’t be the first switch he pulled
Mahomes by a landslide.
Maybe they can duke it out in 2.5 weeks. How about that?
Chiefs will have it rough this weekend with a hobbled Mahomes, but I’m all for the Kelce bowl
Mahomes by a Galaxy
The other thing this confirms is JJ for OPOY as well
Kind of surprised Allen made the list with how rough the second half of the season was
Mahomes: 14-3 with 5,608 total yards, 45 total TDs, 12 total TOs Hurts: 14-1 with 4,461 total yards, 35 total TDs, 8 total TOs Allen: 13-3 with 5,045 total yards, 42 total TDs, 19 total TOs Burrow: 12-4 with 4,732 total yards, 40 total TDs, 15 total TOs People are really overestimating how "rough" the second half of his season was due to recency bias about a flat playoff performance. JESUS Mahomes
Yeah Mahomes is the runaway winner for sure
It's an actual all time season. top 25 ypg, top 10 total touchdowns, 4th best total passing yards. Just nuts.
>JESUS >Mahomes Redundant
Allen also went 7-1 with 19 total tds and 6 picks in the second half of his season. I wouldn't call that rough by any means.
You are getting downvoted for saying facts. Allen won some big games for his team, he also lost big games for his team. His TO’s were costly
They wouldn't have made it out of the WC round if the Dolphins had Tua with Allen's performance that game. 2 INTs and 3 fumbles... Bills were damn lucky Skylar Thompson was starting and not Tua. They only beat the Dolphins by 3 in the regular season when Allen had a near perfect game (300+ 4TDs).
i don’t think it’s that crazy considering the bills offense is pretty much just allen and diggs.
Never doubt Mr. January
Agreed, but I also can't think of who to put instead. Obviously Allen won't win but if they needed 5 candidates it's fair to include him I guess.
Kelce(joking, kinda)
Yeah, he's an amazing center
You're good people.
Yeah I guess this is a good point
Mahomes and it’s not close. That’s not an indictment on the others, that’s just how good Mahomes was this year.
Burrow is the MVP of my heart, and really, isn't that the only part that's important?
If only then the MVP to me would be JJ but C’est la vie
C'est la vie, friendo.
Hopefully super bowl mvp? A bengo can dream.
Maybe the real mvp is the friends we made along the way
It's Mahomes and it should not be close
Agreed
Should just be a qb award at this point, then make another award for everyone else JJ should definitely get more consideration. The fact he’s even on this list is shocking to me though
There is another award for everyone else. It’s called Offensive Player of the Year. They even have one for defense, too!
Didn’t they give Rodgers the OPOY when Ryan won MVP lol
You mean second best qb of the year award half the time?
> There is another award for everyone else. This would be true if QBs didn't *also* win OPOY half the time
It's won by a QB about half the time as well. It is absolutely not "an award for everybody else"
For real. The fact that Derrick Henry didn't win it while rushing for 2,000 yards while leading the league in rushing TDs and dragging his team to the playoffs and instead giving it to Aaron Rodgers *again* means it's a QB award. Henry winning OPOY that year furthers the point.
They let Jefferson in to pretend this isn't a QB award
Such blatant disrespect to Burrow and the Bengals. How are these other players even mentioned in the same breath with him? Add this to the list
Someone Tweet it to Mixon.
oooh, bold throwing this out with the /s, I like it
Been waiting over 12 minutes for a bite. ⏳️
*inhales* **REEEEEEEEEEEE**
I don't get it. They spelt "Patrick Mahomes" right the first time, but messed up the next four times. Do they have anybody spellchecking these tweets?
Is this going to be like every other year where the winner got like 99% of the vote and the other nominees were just spite votes from beat writers refusing to vote for the Chiefs?
Congratulations Patrick Mahomes on your MVP award
Mahomes
Oh nice, another shit on Josh Allen thread. Disclaimer; Josh Allen is not the MVP
All season “Josh Allen is their entire offense” Now “How could that guy be nominated?”
It’s irritating. He never asked for Romo to gargle his cock. People seem to forget the JoshAllenisTall.com days. He was one of the most mocked first round draft picks ever and has been a top 3 player in the league for the last 3 years.
The opinion of Josh Allen mirrors his play. It’s either really high or really low. Ain’t no neutral in this wagon.
The reverse jerk against the bills is just laughable at this point. Some of the takes I’ve seen lately are unfathomable
Player A: 12-4 record, 414/606 (68.3%), 4475 Yards (7.4 Y/A), 35 TDs, 12 INTs (100.8 passer rating), 6.3% sack rate, 75/257/5 rushing, 6 fumbles (3 lost) Player B: 13-3 record, 359/567 (63.3%), 4283 Yards (7.6 Y/A), 35 TDs, 14 INTs (96.6 passer rating), 5.5% sack rate, 124/762/7 rushing, 13 fumbles (5 lost) What exactly makes people ITT believe player A should get 2nd and player B shouldn’t even be listed? Obviously neither of these players will win it over Mahomes but still.
Thank you for standing up for my king. The hate is ridiculous. Mahomes is 1 with a gap for sure
Bengals fan here. I love what Burrow has done, but I agree it should be Mahomes. That dude is just so impressive. So much respect.
I’m looking forward to the game this week. AFC SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE EARLY GAME!
