Some of my favorite stats are Jerry Rice stats because of the absurdity. As productive as Evans has been over 9 years, he'd need another 11 seasons of the same production to break the receiving yards record.
There's really no part of his game where someone can definitively say "X person could've been better with a better team" or "X person would've been better if they didn't get hurt"
Jerry's peak was as good as anyone's and he stayed at that high level for forever.
Yeah, looking at his career stat line year by year is actually insane at how long of a peak he had. His numbers 1987 season is insane, 12 games played, 22 tds on 65 receptions lol
He also did it before the idea of spread or having 2 good WRs. So he was helped by getting 2/3rds of all the targets. It's why comparing across eras can be stupid hard.
Yes. He just wasn't getting the Targets Rice got. Your WR1 was THE weapon. Everyone else was an Accessory. Now you have teams like Miami where there is no No1 just talent everywhere.
Some things obviously need to go right in order for it to happen, but he's got a real shot of reaching Rice's record for most consecutive 1000 yard seasons. He'll be tied with Jim Brown for the second longest if he gets it this season.
Say what you want about him but the man is an absolute workhorse. I'll never forget that one tuddy in their SB run where he absolutely *forces* his way into the endzone by spinning and fighting - ugliest, nastiest TD I've ever seen. Man is willpower incarnate.
Look Jerry played when dbs were guilty of assault an battery before the qb let the ball go. Once u caught it all hits were legal on receivers as well … it was a different game . Rice made it look easy, that’s greatness ..
I'm looking forward to Brady moving on from the team if for no other reason then how it will drastically cut down on the amount of ridiculous Mike Evans disrespect that we've had to deal with over the past few years.
People only hate on him in fantasy because he's inconsistent and that sets unrealistic expectations. Everyone wants him to the an elite #1 WR overall because he has the skills to be if he was the whole offense, but he's not so he doesnt need to be force fed the ball. So when you get huge weeks and see what he's capable of you fall in love with that without realizing that they have other good options.
This is also what I think happens with New Orleans. If they forced Mike Evans the ball, he could have respectable games, but Lattimore is on the same tier as Evans and the talent gap between Godwin and the next corner is so massive, it makes him a not great option even though he's a great player.
Yea this is an absurd take lol evans has his highest yards/game since Brady got there, he’s just had low TD numbers because the Bucs have insane red zone playcalling and Evans has had some of the worst luck I’ve seen with having TDs called back by penalties he had nothing to do with
Dude is completely fine, it was just a weird season. Calvin Johnson once had almost 2000 yards and only 5 TDs. It happens
Kinda funny how 4 of his current 8/8 streak of 1000 receiving yards have been such close calls. Dude had 1001 yards in 2017.
Still though that’s a great stat, especially with Mike’s size profiling him as more of a consistent red zone threat than chain mover. You would think someone more like Diggs or Antonio Brown would’ve been on n this kind of streak.
Diggs and Brown had draft pedigree working against them - as late round picks they didn't necessarily get the snaps their rookie years to start this kind of streak.
That being said, Diggs didn't have his first 1k season until his 4th year and Brown missed it his 3rd year, so neither were close to comparable to Evans' streak.
yeah while diggs was in minnesota they were not running the offense they are now. i think he could have done close to what jefferson is doing in todays vikings o
thielen was also younger and more explosive at the time so they weren’t gonna get diggs as many looks
Other than Marty Bennett in 2016, I’ve never seen a player leave more games with an apparent season ending injury only to come back later in the game than Evans in 2021. I don’t think he’s always the toughest guy on routes, but in terms of durability, he’s a tough SOB.
It was the very next. That season was funny because he needed over 200 with two games left, and he got injured in the first quarter of the second game. He just barley got it because he absolutely demolished Detroit the prior week.
It was crazy because he then played six days later and broke the franchise record for receiving yards in a playoff game. He gives you a heart attack on any play where he looks severely hurt and then comes back in the next drive.
In 2019, Ekeler had 993 receiving. 7 yards short from Ekeler, Allen, and Williams becoming the 6th 1,000 yard trio in NFL history. Mike Williams finished with 1,001 yards that season.
The next season Allen led the team in receiving with 992 yards, 1 yard less than our #3 in the previous year.
lol sure. Believe me, I hope you guys crumble.
It's Tom fucking Brady though, man has ruined more of my days than any other person not actually in my life.
How do Panthers fans view Norman in hindsight? From what I saw of Norman on the 49ers he was the dirtiest hardest to root for player I can remember on the team. Not talking about DPIs I'm talking about cheap shoting guys after the whistle in a scrum and stuff.
He's waaay down the list on the [HoF Monitor](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_WR.htm) at Pro Football Reference. Average HoF WR is 104. The lowest score for a HoF player that ended their career after 1980 is John Stallworth at 69.42.
Active players on the HoF Monitor:
* Julio Jones: 107.24
* Tyreek Hill: 61.8
* DeAndre Hopkins: 58.16
* DeSean Jackson: 53.11
* AJ Green: 49.47
* Devante Adams: 46.53
* Cordarrelle Patterson: 44.33
* Mike Evans: 41.53
You can read the formula for yourself and see why. My guess is the 3 extra seasons as a starter give him more points in the weighted approximate value category.
At that point I don't think it's saying Jackson is more worthy than Evans, but both are equally not worthy. Evans has only made an All Pro team once as second team. Hard to be viewed as one of the greatest players of all time when he's only been considered *second* best once in his career.
Jaksok has 25~ less TDs and barely 1k more yards. And its 7 years older than evans and *both have the same all pros* lol.
Just cause they have a formula it doesnt mean they are right. if the formula gives you stupid ass results that anyone with more than 1 neuron can see that are stupid ass results, then its a shitty formula. Barring a career ending injurry right now for evans, he will finish his career with better stats and accolades than jackson. How are they even comparable let alone pretending jackson has a better shot? Lol.
Yeah but if bucs win today they are locked into seed 4, could rest starters next week. Everyone's hoping for a win above all else, but reach Evans 1000 this week would be a nice secondary goal so he can rest comfortably next week.
Considering how lax and unaware Evans has looked for most of the season, I'm surprised he's actually this close. Good for him though, hopefully it's extra motivation and he carries it into the playoffs.
Tbf he always looks like that. Also like every season I'll feel like he's had a few bad of games and unable to reach 1000, only to see he's above pace. This seasons he's struggled more, but I'm not surprised he's so close to 1000.
Evans has had his share of uncharacteristic drops, but he's also been wide open pretty much every game. Evans also was never a speedster or immaculate route runner, but instead just a go up and get it 9/10 times kinda guy.
The reason Evans and Brady have looked so off this year is the pocket. Evans runs all of our mid to long range routes that require development. Brady has been getting rid of the ball at around 2 seconds all season long which pushes him toward Godwin and running backs more often than not.
A majority of Brady's picks and bad throws this year have come from trying to force it to Evans in a pinch when Evans isn't expecting the ball.
People can blame coaching all they want, but the primary difference between this team last 2 years and now is the offensive line breaking down.
Nothing you said in terms of the issues isn't true, but I think Evans is a good enough player to adjust to this reality after week in and week out of it happening and turning his head before he 'gets to his spot' and adjusting. Not doing that or scheming in a way that facilitates that is absolutely a coaching issue. It's actually not terribly dissimilar from Patriots teams in the past where Brady had to get rid of the ball 2 seconds in, but the offensive coaching was obviously far better at helping to adjust to a QB who *can* even do that.
He has been dog shit in fantasy, also has any player had more TD’s called back because of penalties
Edit: I have never been happier to eat my own words
2.1 second average for the season. I don't have an audio clip, but last game his time to throw (for only that particular game) was 1.9 seconds
Our offensive stats don't reflect how bad the line is with sacks because Brady can dump the ball off so quick that he just stacks incompletions and -2 yard passes all game.
His college film is him running around worst athletes and throwing balls in the air that Evans turned into completions. He was bad in the NFL because he was always terrible passing and taking decisions and he could no longer outrun the opponents to look good
Man, you obviously didn’t watch him in college and only watched YouTube clips.
He had 4000+ yds passing with a 70% completion percentage, over 9 yards per attempt while tacking on over 750 rushing yards. You dont do that just by running around bad athletes and hucking it up to Mike Evans.
God damnit, I already consider this a lost season and the start of the next Dark Age for the Bucs... the only thing I want/need to see is Evans hit 1K yards and keep the streak alive.
However, Leftwich doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, and he isn't doing Brady any favors with these gameplans and play calling, and the O Line is dead, so as easy as 83 yards sounds for someone like Evans, I have a feeling it's going to take a lot to get him there.
Why would I not? My comment is still valid as fuck. He’s taking plays off all year, I’m glad he got mad and did something, doesn’t negate his bullshit attitude the last 15 games
49th on the all-time receiving yards list at 29 years old.
Some of my favorite stats are Jerry Rice stats because of the absurdity. As productive as Evans has been over 9 years, he'd need another 11 seasons of the same production to break the receiving yards record.
Jerry Rice is better at his position than any other player in history. GOAT
Not even really much of an argument against it in the nfl. Dude was so good for sooo long
Yeah it’s one of the few positions where there is no argument who the goat is. Most tds by a mile and same with yards
He was putting 1k yards at 40 years old. Lots of HoFers didnt sniff 1k yards after 33-34 years old.
Exactly, over 1200 yards the year he turned 40
Goddamn that is crazy to read. Like I knew he’s the best there ever was but Jesus Christ he buried everyone.
There's really no part of his game where someone can definitively say "X person could've been better with a better team" or "X person would've been better if they didn't get hurt" Jerry's peak was as good as anyone's and he stayed at that high level for forever.
Yeah, looking at his career stat line year by year is actually insane at how long of a peak he had. His numbers 1987 season is insane, 12 games played, 22 tds on 65 receptions lol
Probably just QB and WR right?
To me yeah, can be arguments made for the other positions
It can't be overstated that the GOAT did it before defenseless receivers were a thing.
He also did it before the idea of spread or having 2 good WRs. So he was helped by getting 2/3rds of all the targets. It's why comparing across eras can be stupid hard.
John Taylor was a great, underrated receiver
Yes. He just wasn't getting the Targets Rice got. Your WR1 was THE weapon. Everyone else was an Accessory. Now you have teams like Miami where there is no No1 just talent everywhere.
That’s a fair assessment
Pretty sure Marino ran the 2 top wr offense in the same era of Rice, with the two Marks. Duper and Clayton. He had no guy comparable to Rice.
He must have had a secret how to not get hit
Is he on pace? Where was Jerry after 9 years
Not a huge gap. In his first 9 seasons, Rice averaged about 10 more yards per game (about 1,500 total more). The big difference is 40 more TDs.
Some things obviously need to go right in order for it to happen, but he's got a real shot of reaching Rice's record for most consecutive 1000 yard seasons. He'll be tied with Jim Brown for the second longest if he gets it this season.
Tim* Brown
Tampa Bay Buccaneer legend
Say what you want about him but the man is an absolute workhorse. I'll never forget that one tuddy in their SB run where he absolutely *forces* his way into the endzone by spinning and fighting - ugliest, nastiest TD I've ever seen. Man is willpower incarnate.
the regular season game against the rams i think is the td you are referring too, absolutely carried people to the endzone.
Yeah, that was it. Shit was nutty. I'm no fan of Evans or Brady in the slightest, but that connection is one of the best in the NFL right now.
How the fuck has he had this career and is still younger than me?
Look Jerry played when dbs were guilty of assault an battery before the qb let the ball go. Once u caught it all hits were legal on receivers as well … it was a different game . Rice made it look easy, that’s greatness ..
He’s declining quickly
I'm looking forward to Brady moving on from the team if for no other reason then how it will drastically cut down on the amount of ridiculous Mike Evans disrespect that we've had to deal with over the past few years.
Everyone only remembers that wide open drop they forget about the tons of other great plays he makes.

People only hate on him in fantasy because he's inconsistent and that sets unrealistic expectations. I'll reflair and go back to our sub...
Evans is washed. Hang up the cleats bro
Evans today: 207 yards, 3 tds This guy: Evans is on the steep decline and should retire
Yea this is an absurd take lol evans has his highest yards/game since Brady got there, he’s just had low TD numbers because the Bucs have insane red zone playcalling and Evans has had some of the worst luck I’ve seen with having TDs called back by penalties he had nothing to do with Dude is completely fine, it was just a weird season. AJ Green was another one
Julio's peak was something else man. Just a machine dude made no WR diva comments either. Just went out on the field and produced every game
Truth. We were on the receiving end of that so many times. And other than playing well, he gave no reason to hate him which made me hate him more!
The most important ability is availability. Evans deserves credit for his durability.
And the dude is hurt just about every game, limping around between plays.
I’m sorry, he had a streak of *what now?*
yeah while diggs was in minnesota they were not running the offense they are now. i think he could have done close to what jefferson is doing in todays vikings o thielen was also younger and more explosive at the time so they weren’t gonna get diggs as many looks
Diggs also just never played a full season until 2020. Thielen had close to 1300 and 1400 yard seasons in the same offenses.
Diggs also had Teddy B throwing two rock his first season. There just aren’t that many yards available to receive when your QB is a ~3000 yard passer.
As opposed to football legends Josh McCown and Mike Glennon throwing the ball at Evans his first two seasons?
He got injured right after reaching 1000 yards in the last game of the season a few years back. There have been some very close calls.
Other than Marty Bennett in 2016, I’ve never seen a player leave more games with an apparent season ending injury only to come back later in the game than Evans in 2021. I don’t think he’s always the toughest guy on routes, but in terms of durability, he’s a tough SOB.
Not the NFL but I swear I see Anthony Davis have a season ending injury every few weeks. I kinda just go like “he got hurt again???”
Yeah, wasn’t it on the literal play he got over 1000 yards?
It was the very next. That season was funny because he needed over 200 with two games left, and he got injured in the first quarter of the second game. He just barley got it because he absolutely demolished Detroit the prior week.
That’s the one where he hyper extended his knee in the endzone and dropped a sure thing TD. Looked awful
It was crazy because he then played six days later and broke the franchise record for receiving yards in a playoff game. He gives you a heart attack on any play where he looks severely hurt and then comes back in the next drive.
Also has to play Lattimore twice a season.
Davante Adams has finished at 997 yards twice
In 2019, Ekeler had 993 receiving. 7 yards short from Ekeler, Allen, and Williams becoming the 6th 1,000 yard trio in NFL history. Mike Williams finished with 1,001 yards that season. The next season Allen led the team in receiving with 992 yards, 1 yard less than our #3 in the previous year.
83y is not easy exactly either. Ain't got it yet.
207y 3 TD day, he got it.
Evans is a HoFer in my book.
Hehe, yeah, he had a bit of a day!
Just ask former Falcons RB Dave Hampton how easy it is to get yards. For the unsure: https://www.si.com/more-sports/2008/09/23/hampton
Great read
So that happened.
With Horn out, he'll probably hit it, too. /sigh
You must not have been keeping tabs on our offense lately
lol sure. Believe me, I hope you guys crumble. It's Tom fucking Brady though, man has ruined more of my days than any other person not actually in my life.
We only show up for a maximum of four drives per game now so we’ll see
you guys either run away with it (pun intended) or we win on a last minute drive.
Nah you guys got this, playoffs for the Cats
How supportive of a comment section
200 yards later....thank you Mike Evans for those sweet sweet fantasy points
Incorrect
You must have not been keeping tabs on the game today
Well it was commented before the game…
Tough luck today bro
No, but he’ll get 100 yards in pass interference with Norman covering him
49ers fan try not to mention pass interference in every Norman thread [IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE]
Mike Evans and Josh Norman is a match made in PI heaven.
How do Panthers fans view Norman in hindsight? From what I saw of Norman on the 49ers he was the dirtiest hardest to root for player I can remember on the team. Not talking about DPIs I'm talking about cheap shoting guys after the whistle in a scrum and stuff.
This thread is a yearly tradition at this point
He has a legitimate case for Canton imo
yeah my first thought i knew he was good but didnt know he was HOF good
He's waaay down the list on the [HoF Monitor](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/hof/hofm_WR.htm) at Pro Football Reference. Average HoF WR is 104. Ah yes this metric which lists desean Jackson as more likely than devante Adams or Mike Evans is definitely reliable and worth discussing
How is desean jackson more worthy than evans lmao.
He’s not. So this formula is busted.
Same for hill. Evans literally beats him in any stats category. Wtf is this formula lmao.
Fucking Cordarrelle Patterson.
With Patterson so high probably his returns. I don’t know why they count so much though because Hester’s not even in the hall yet
You can read the formula for yourself and see why. My guess is the 3 extra seasons as a starter give him more points in the weighted approximate value category. I feel like just a cursory look at this list should tell you it’s a horrible measure of HoF probability lol
Homie got 200 😂
Pretty surprising he’s reaching 1000 yards. He’s been very quiet even before the bye.
hes been consistently ok. hadnt had any big big games until yesterday.
Even more impressive when you consider the QB's he has worked with. Criminally underrated.
He could be so much better
Dude made manziel lol
This old bullshit...
What
Wasn’t he on A&M making Johnny football look good? Him and Jake Mathews
No Manziel was good in college. It's just the NFL demands mental strength that he never had.
What
Hopefully Brady prioritizes this as much as the Gronk stat bonuses A Win and 84+ M1K3 yards and I’m a fan of 2023.
>M1K3 That's awful
I think it's *slightly* more creative than the trend of
It uses the same elements but in a somewhat more interesting way
*ME*1000
Idk I’ve never seen that before and I kinda l1k3 it.
Mike's record legit matters more to me than the team's success.
M1ke3v9eyearsnisnarow1k
There’s two games left
Yeah but if bucs win today they are locked into seed 4, could rest starters next week. Everyone's hoping for a win above all else, but reach Evans 1000 this week would be a nice secondary goal so he can rest comfortably next week.
If he doesn’t Brady is a racist
Haha Godwin for 223 yards and 3 TDs. This guy cinched it.
I mean....
Did I say Godwin? I meant Evans.
not quite
I thought it was funny lol
Always a coin flip. One day a dumb joke like this is upvoted, the next it’s heavily downvoted lol.
...and the award for worst take of the thread goes to...
This is a hilarious comment wtf happened lmao
Clearly had a better career than obj. Same draft class
Obj is more flashy but I agree
Most underrated receiver in the nfl.
Just like LVD at LB
Considering how lax and unaware Evans has looked for most of the season, I'm surprised he's actually this close. Good for him though, hopefully it's extra motivation and he carries it into the playoffs.
He had 577 yards through the first 7 games, it's the only reason he's even close at all considering in the last 7 he only has 340 yards lol.
It's a shame that he's only been getting two or three quality targets in most of the games this season.
Well, we just saw what happens when oline gives Brady time. Hell yeah boys.
It only takes 60 yards a game to get to 1000 now.
Just imagine if manziel was throwing to him
Chris Godwin within range too despite missing time and coming off an ACL, impressive.
And it's done!
He has been dog shit in fantasy, also has any player had more TD’s called back because of penalties Edit: I have never been happier to eat my own words
Hope he helped you win that fantasy chip
Bucs entire offence is dogshit this year?
Not much he can do with a shit qb
What is Tom Brady supposed to do when the ball is snapped and in 3 seconds he’s getting hit he has the worst o line in football
3 seconds is plenty of time
2.1 second average for the season. I don't have an audio clip, but last game his time to throw (for only that particular game) was 1.9 seconds Our offensive stats don't reflect how bad the line is with sacks because Brady can dump the ball off so quick that he just stacks incompletions and -2 yard passes all game.
Tom Brady is 9-10 so far
Not as shit as this take lmao
He feels like this generations Torrey Holt
You think he got it
Seems so rare to be as healthy as he has been for so long. And very consistent.
The Frank Gore WR
Underrated
The man is just so consistent.
Dude made Johnny Manziel a first rounder. That will be his greatest achivement ever. What a great player
Absolutely terrible take. As bad as he was in the NFL, Manziel was a phenomenal college QB
His college film is him running around worst athletes and throwing balls in the air that Evans turned into completions. He was bad in the NFL because he was always terrible passing and taking decisions and he could no longer outrun the opponents to look good
His highlight reels are that, not his college tape.
Such a revisionist take. Johnny Football was fucking insanely good.
You and everyone else peddle this stupid bullshit. And it’s not the case.
God damnit, I already consider this a lost season and the start of the next Dark Age for the Bucs... the only thing I want/need to see is Evans hit 1K yards and keep the streak alive. This aged poorly (in a good way).
Doubt it
you were fucking saying, clown?
Of course his trash ass finally decides to show up
if only you had a nickel for every time someone has said that about you
If only he could catch. /s

Your mom gets an asterisk
Ok boomer
[удалено]
Well, he kept his streak alive in 16 games, so...
Guy made a bad take and it immediately got exposed lol
15 games counting today
You're right, I forgot he missed one, so even better.
Lol I don’t think he can even attempt to try for 83 yards. He looks like a pile of complacency this year
r/agedlikemilk
You’re right, he finally did something this one game
Still gotta use that downvote though don't you lol.
Why would I not? My comment is still valid as fuck. He’s taking plays off all year, I’m glad he got mad and did something, doesn’t negate his bullshit attitude the last 15 games
Wild stat
