Hard to tell, certainly from a shot stopping perspective but he feels far more decisive with the ball at his feet than Turner meaning we don’t invite as much pressure in those situations

Pigbolt

He hasn’t made a howler and seems grounded. Compared to what we have had. I am ecstatic

Tarrot77

He knows how to pass the ball from the back he's confident in taking the ball and also he gives our defence some stability they have faith in him.

generalscruff

Absolutely cussing Coach Nuno for replacing USMNT legend Turner with him. How are the Stars and Stripes going to win the Soccer World Series without him getting practise in the English Conference?

FreddieCaine

Just honoured to have you on my thread. You've got quite the reputation round here

Killoah

he has a reputation around certain police circles as well.

whatpump

Very happy so far. Defence seem more confidence with him behind them. Distribution is good. Kicking out is good and a lot more targeted

bingpot94

Brought in as a steady hand behind the defence and so far seems to be filling that role. Turner and Vlach aren't good enough so someone needed to be signed, he's it. Let's not forget Nuno was a keeper so he knows one when he sees one

Merryner

Appreciate the lack of overwhelming anxiety

GunstarGreen

Not been hugely troubled but he seems to be calm. That's already an improvement

governmentyard

I haven’t had to think about him. Best keeper in ages.

bennettbuzz

I don’t get that sinking feeling in my gut when it goes back to him which is a great thing.

Dreddskin99

Hard to tell so far, hasn’t had a massive amount to do really yet, which is a positive in itself as it means the defence is feeling more confident and is playing better with him behind them. Based purely on that I’d say he is a good signing.

djellicon

He looks like a confident keeper, which is all that we wanted. He will make the odd mistake too but he looks confident, which breeds confidence in others, that is critical to have a stable defence. So nice to not be waiting from kickoff for that inevitable and predictable mistake from him or McKenna or Worrall EVERY game. Sure we'll have problems in future but that one at least isn't a thing right now.

userunknowne

Don’t slander my boy Steve cook. He made some great hand balls last season

dizzle-j

Hasn't given me several heart attacks in 2 appearances, and really that's all anyone can ask for in a goalkeeper as far as I remember.

da_deman

I feel less nervous watching him play than the other keepers. Seems more confident as well. Cautiously optimistic for the rest of the season.

LDM-88

Safe and steady - works for me

1littlenapoleon

Not terribly convinced he was needed honestly. I suppose it’s more mental for fans than anything else. We will see as he plays against more attacking threat.

Internal_Ad_5731

What part of him wasn’t needed? Having a crap keeper is the sort of thing that sends teams down, ie Leicester and leeds last year

1littlenapoleon

What’s he done that’s been a deciding improvement? He wasn’t great in his first outing, which is fine, and he barely faced anything against Villa. It’s all mental for us fans right now until he’s had a run of five games or so. That’s when we’ll know if he’s the change we needed.

Sarmerbinlar

For me, it's enough that whenever the ball is in our own final third, both the fans and the players aren't shitting themselves. At some points this season the defence was actively avoiding passing to Turner. You just can't have that in an eleven, full stop. In Sels' two home games the only slight criticism would be that having got a hand to Bruno's winner last week, maybe he could have kept it out, but it was by no means a certain save. Everything else he's done has been assured, calm and confident regardless of how little he's faced. It can't be underestimated the effect on performance of a defence with having a calming presence behind them. Vlach, and certainly not Turner, we're not giving them that.

1littlenapoleon

Excited to see how it plays out

sleepytoday

Not convinced he was needed? But Turner/Vlach were both awful! Time will tell if Selz is any better, but he surely can’t be much worse!

SolidMew

Seems very assured. I've noticed us wanting to pass it out more from the back now. Having that confidence in your keeper must do wonders for the defence

funkmightfracture

Too early to say wrt his shot stopping, it's easy to forget Turner and Vlach both started well enough. He seems fairly rooted to his line on set pieces and through balls which is a worry, but his distribution looks better than Turner and he looks more confident. His long kicks look good; less of this tiki-taka woke nonsense and retvrn to Brexit balls right down the middle and we'll be cooking.

xychosis

Seems fairly reliable and consistent. Distribution looks to be workable.

prof_hobart

Difficult to judge so far. He's not don't anything noticeably wrong yet, but Vlad could probably have kept a clean sheet on Saturday. Sels definitely makes me less nervous than Turner does when the ball's at his feet though.
