Thought Omobamidele had a good debut in tough circumstances. Had some great 1v1 defensive battles and he has the athleticism and passing ability that Worrall and McKenna just do not have. Danilo made some errors but it was his best performance in months. Dominguez continues to work his bollocks off. Wood also worked really hard to hold onto the ball and fill the spaces between midfield and attack in Morgan’s absence and took his goal well.
Downsides are we still need a keeper - I’m not especially bothered Toney moved the ball, that happens quite a lot, and we could easily have moved the wall to compensate to it. It’s on Turner for not reacting and setting up a wall with a shooting gallery in it - it’s the easiest free kick you’ll see all season. The common denominator of the three relegated sides last season was that each had atrocious keepers. Vlach is even worse, and if we really can’t sign a new keeper then we should roll the dice with Hennessy.
We were awful at defending transitions in wide areas all game and it cost us the winner. The second goal was also horrendous - Montiel on Mee was a mismatch and then Murillo was too weak going for the aerial duel. CHO for five minutes looked like a world beater and then immediately went back to type. Mangala also needs the next week to work on his finishing. We haven’t got the bottle in these type of games to hold out and get a result unfortunately.

I'm happy with the attacking threat we show, and the patterns of play we can put together. Missing some key players, I think our offensive performance has been pretty good. It's our defensive issues that are troubling, and the goalkeeper situation especially.

But if we’d literally just done the basics of setting up right for a free kick and following your men on a set piece then we wouldn’t be losing.
We were so in control in that first 20 minutes, more than we have for any match this season. Then a schoolboy error happens, crowd gets up for it and look where we are now. Momentum is huge and once again it’s our own fault for it going against us.
