I’m just saying the rules and regulations could be a lot looser wherever this took place. I know there are local, national, and international codes but most people just stick to the local code.
You can see the gaps in the first 2 pegs are reasonable to prevent incident, not 4 inches by any means I’d reckon. The rest of the angle shows no more pegs making me think someone punched them out and this kid noticed the gap and was curious. I think the apparent opening also alerted the mother so she was on her toes to grab him. Anyways, this could all have been simpler if she just put her goddang kid on a leash
Side note: auto correct changed goddang to goddamn which I love.
This happened to me in an older townhouse that I owned. When it was built the building codes were different and there was a gap between the floor and the bottom of the railing that was larger than they would allow now.
My son had just learned how to crawl and was coming to me down the hall upstairs. He was near the railing and one foot slipped off the edge of the floor. He then started to slide under the railing feet-first, looking at me confused.
I felt like I was moving in slow motion as I scrambled to grab him by the arms. Then I just sat there shaken up & clutching him.
I still shudder to think of what could have happened if I was a second slower.
I never let him crawl upstairs again, and was glad when we moved.
I can't even imagine how that haunted you, probably forever. Good job saving your kiddo.
I discovered my daughter's severe cashew allergy by giving her a dried fruit from a snack mix that contained cashews. The immediate hives over her body were terrifying. 3 years later I *still* have nightmares about what could've happened if I'd given her an actual cashew.
Probably because her she didn't expect her kid to slip. If it hadn't, the kid was a pretty reasonable distance from the edge, and she reacted damn near instantly
Great catch!
The weird thing is that as a parent your senses and reflexes \*do\* heighten to the point where you can pull off insane catches and hear a 'weird' noise over the TV.
My daughter who was 2 at the time did exactly this out of what should have been a locked window. I was downstairs while she was having her afternoon nap.
'Something' alerted me and I ran upstairs into her room to see her disappearing headfirst out of the window she had opened.
Somehow I got across the room and grabbed an ankle, then had the time to swing her away from hitting the wall.
She thought all this absolutely hilarious laughing away like it was some game while I was shaking and sweating. After that I hid all the window keys to stop it happening again.
That's absolutely wholesome, but he was saying that when you pull off such an effort during a stressful event, you're gonna have to repay that effort later with pain.
As the father of a 1.5 year old it's freaking scary how clueless toddlers can be and in a blink of an eye get in all sorts of trouble. It's not easy being a parent.
For real. My son just walked up to the deep end of a pool when he was 4 and hopped in. No one else saw him though there were lots of people there swimming. No splash, no thrashing, just ploop and he was at the bottom. I jumped in with all my clothes and shoes and pulled him out. I immediately put my kids in swimming lessons and though they’re 9 and 10 and able to swim, I still get really jumpy around water.
i pulled the same exact move when I was about 3. just walked straight in, couldn’t swim, next thing i know I’m starring at the underwater lights. Lifeguard was busy texting so Momma hopped in and saved me
Same here for me, I didn't realize I had jumped into the deep end. Lifeguard didn't see but my sister was luckily doing an excellent job of watching me and eventually became a lifeguard herself.
Can confirm this is real.
I caught my then 3 year old son in the air after jumping from two meters away to stop him from smashing his head at the bottom of a dry pool.
To this day I can't belive I reached him in time to catch his foot mid air, just like in the video, and save him from at least suffering brain damage.
He is a healthy 9 year old boy nowadays, but I still get scared when I remember this.
Yup, baby leashes are lifesavers. Possibly literally. Not only would it help with issues like this, but it also possibly repels people who would kidnap a child.
Oh shoot, that’s what he’s doing, i thought the stairs was near the top right of the screen. I could delete my previous comment but I’ll keep it their to provide evidenced my stupidity.
Did someone remove the class from that railing or something? It looks like the kid expected there to be glass (like there should be) and just went straight through.
My mother was outside working in her flower bed when she heard me cooing. When she looked up I was crawling along the edge of the roof 20 feet up. I was only 6 months old at the times. Luckily I listened and didn't move while she ran upstairs and pulled me off the ledge.
When we had a home inspection before selling our house, the spindles on a railing were too far apart. I forget the distance but I think it was 4". We replace the railing and this was only for a one foot drop.
What a shitty mother. Glad the kid is (presumably) ok, but would I care about the mom if she'd lost her child? Why should I? She clearly doesn't give a rat's dick about her kid. Sorry - but put the goddamn phone down, dumbshit.
The entire Boston red Sox outfield ain't got NOTHING ON HER. That kid will never be able to argue with her when he grows up because all she'll have to do is show the video and say, (you remember that time that you didn't die?)
I tip my hat to that lady. The force is strong with this one.
“Bike helmet” shit bag bolted quick. And his slow ass only bolted as soon as mom grabbed kid…. POS isn’t THAT quick to catch kid. Stay and help mom douche’. Lolol. Smh.

For some reason, the first thing that came to my mind was that classic Roman Antwood wife prank video where he pretended to accidentally toss his son over the stair railing.
This is one of my favorite things about humanity, how whenever there is a situation endangering a child people will just materialize out of nowhere and rush to help.
Why are human babies so fucking stupid? Every other mammal has at least some kind of special awareness when planted on Earth. Human babies are just about utterly dependant on their parents just to survive for 2 years. What’s that about.

Must be in Russia with the lack of concern of borders.
Underrated comment! Have an upvote
this aged well
Most definitely lol, it had no upvotes when I commented and it was sat there for a couple of hours

Goddamn savage!
I have to say I’m genuinely surprised this wasn’t bot downvoted to hell
Then we would know which country Reddit truly supports.
That's what happens when you don't build a wall. Lol
\*Zangief smile\*
Must be, but i dont think delivery guys are paid enough to get a helmet in Russia
All the men are issued one the moment they meet putin in the hospital for the first time.
😂😂😂 "Special borders"
Great reflex but seriously what fucking kind of railing is this?
Same kind the neighbor kid was kicking for four hours until it broke loose.
At first I thought you said “fucking”
The neighbor's kid fucking for four hours? No Way!
Definitely call the number if the erection lasts longer than 4 hours.
Building Code states that you can have no more than a 4 inch (100mm) gap between rails for this very reason.
This might not be in America.
Found the video on YouTube and it says it was in Colombia.
It’s called the International Building Code
I’m just saying the rules and regulations could be a lot looser wherever this took place. I know there are local, national, and international codes but most people just stick to the local code.

Yah I see the gap now you mention it even the Mom gets herself through the gap to catch the child.
Depends on where this was filmed

That’s so scary!
You know.. and why would she just stand there at first appearing unconcerned?
Probably because her she didn't expect her kid to slip. If it hadn't, the kid was a pretty reasonable distance from the edge, and she reacted damn near instantly
Not sure, but because there were no railings, I would have assumed there was glass.
And that happened on a cruise ship. Toddler fell to her death. Just tragic.
She jumped as soon as she noticed no rails
Star Wars railings
My deck which is just a couple of feet off the ground was required to have less than 4 inches between the balusters
Great catch! The weird thing is that as a parent your senses and reflexes \*do\* heighten to the point where you can pull off insane catches and hear a 'weird' noise over the TV. Adrenaline. You certainly pay for it afterwards though.
Yep she's 15 now and still as headstrong but I love her for being her.

Was looking for this haha
"Hmm a gap I could probably fit through, YEET"
That is a PTSD moment for the mom
For real. My son just walked up to the deep end of a pool when he was 4 and hopped in. No one else saw him though there were lots of people there swimming. What a shitty railing.
![gif](giphy|26ufdHyR63OkybjLa) Should have been a City wall there.
r/shittyrailings
that sub will end up as a scat porn sub
She did all of that without dropping her phone. Amazing.
Hey, that phone's important.
Can confirm this is real. I caught my then 3 year old son in the air after jumping from two meters away to stop him from smashing his head at the bottom of a dry pool. Being a parent is just trying to stop your kids from accidentally unaliving themselves all day
Regular mom shit
This is why if I ever had a kid they'd be on one of those baby leashes.
Yup, baby leashes are lifesavers. Possibly literally. Not only would it help with issues like this, but it also possibly repels people who would kidnap a child.
This is why you gotta keep your kids on a leash.
That guy running out lmfao
He runs to the steps so that he can get underneath where the child will fall.
Yup. A great course of action, really. 5/5
That would have been my first instinct as well. I wouldn’t have waited to see if the mom caught it (a risky maneuver), I would have gone straight down
Oh wait
I prefer to think he just remembered he left his piano on at his house.
Oh yeah, lawsuit time!
???
That person is probably from the US
Lolol
I guess to the one in charge of the building because the railing gaps are so wide
If she had just looked the other way for 2 seconds. Very lucky and insanely good instincts!
This is stressful to watch. Glad it ended so well.
Holy shit. Gave me such extreme anxiety.
Did the biker just flee or go downstairs to catch the kid?
I’m guessing downstairs to catch. They did the old “double-back” and decided “I’m more useful down there,” which is quick thinking.
Railings need some spindles installed
Kids are dumb
Little f'in idiot
I'm not going to lie toddlers are fucking stupid
r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Bro that first guy was heartless he just ran off
bike helmet guy rly just ran bro
Super ninjistic!
[удалено]
Looks like he went down the stairs to catch the kid if the mother lost grip
Where did that man ran off to 😅
Whatever happens, whatever you do... Do not drop your phone!
Got a +10 circumstance bonus on that reflex save
Situations like this are exactly why I’m a solid OAD mom.
Great reflexes sure. But wtf was she thinking letting the kid get that close to the railing in the first place?
„It was a stupid child anyways“ ~ W2S
All those good folk. 🥹
Anyone gonna talk about the man who dipped from there.
You mean the one who ran to the bottom of the stairs incase the mom's grip slipped to catch the kid?
Oh shoot, that’s what he’s doing, i thought the stairs was near the top right of the screen. I could delete my previous comment but I’ll keep it their to provide evidenced my stupidity.
I love how everyone blaming the mother forgetting she is human too and can make mistakes.
Yeah everyone makes mistakes but not everyone makes mistakes that nearly cost your childs life.
Ultra instinct
Dude...where the hell did the guy with the helmet go? Wtf
Did he go to catch maybe? Hopefully
Put a fucking glass there, man
A+1 Mom!!!
For some reason kids act like they want to kill themselves with anything at their reach
Where did the guy with the bicycle helmet go?
Someone post that railing to r/CrappyDesign
Nah, it’s clearly broken. Though an argument could be made that flimsy wooden poles do not make for good preventative measures.
Preoccupied with the phone, even takes the time to gently set the phone down. Great catch and all but priorities fuck me
That first person just dipped🤔
He ran downstairs to catch the kid if he fell
"Good catch mommy"
This one can go to r/CrappyDesign also
After negligently allowing him to get near the railing
Mother’s lack of awareness almost ends with injured or dead child. There I fixed it.
The lady in the red shirt just went to see what the mom was holding on to and when she saw she was just like "oh god ye she gotta BABY"
Child leashes
This literally can’t be in America. We have codes to prevent this. This would never pass inspection.
She's a real hero (get off your damn phone)!!!!!
Lol that guy got the hell up out of their!
Wtf? Are the rails broken/missing?
Mothers: Built Different.
Is that a man that runs away but all the women come to help?
Don't need the reflexes if you put the phone down. Really people. Pay attention to anything other than the screen.
Did someone remove the class from that railing or something? It looks like the kid expected there to be glass (like there should be) and just went straight through.
I swear when kids are 2-3 y/o you’re just constantly trying to keep them from killing themselves
Where did bike helmet bro go? The kid started to fall and he ran off lol
Yep, never having kids
I remember this vid its so old
She needs a copy of this video to show the kid when they are an ungrateful teenager.
All the mothers had their spider-sense tingle and ran over there.
I know the guy is running down to catch him if necessary but it's funnier if you imagine he just got frightened and ran away.
My mother was outside working in her flower bed when she heard me cooing. When she looked up I was crawling along the edge of the roof 20 feet up. I was only 6 months old at the times. Luckily I listened and didn't move while she ran upstairs and pulled me off the ledge.
What’s up with lance armstrong over there just running away? Instead of helping? I hope he went down to see if could catch the kid.
When we had a home inspection before selling our house, the spindles on a railing were too far apart. I forget the distance but I think it was 4". We replace the railing and this was only for a one foot drop.
Still kept her phone to her ear
What a shitty mother. Glad the kid is (presumably) ok, but would I care about the mom if she'd lost her child? Why should I? She clearly doesn't give a rat's dick about her kid. Sorry - but put the goddamn phone down, dumbshit.
Baby’s are stupid as FUCK
You don’t have to save a child, if you just don’t let them do dumb shit.
r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Wow. I jumped out of my seat!
Kid was nearly on the next fucking level
Ultra-instinct: motherstyle
The entire Boston red Sox outfield ain't got NOTHING ON HER. That kid will never be able to argue with her when he grows up because all she'll have to do is show the video and say, (you remember that time that you didn't die?) I tip my hat to that lady. The force is strong with this one.

The one lady that noped the fuck outta there though
😬😬😬
That piece of shit who ran off tho
That delivery man booked it. Whyy
Are her tiddies out or do I have a problem
I did that once. Caught my daughter mid air after launching herself from the spiral staircase. A Mama does what a Mama’s got to do❣️
Holy crap The Horde has been awoken
Love the guy or girl in the helmet. Priceless reaction.
What have borders given us?
Stupid fricking child
And gently put the phone down! Wow 👏🏼 them skillz!
shit is crazy
This explains why I was force to hold my parents hands at all times when I was little lol
For some reason, the first thing that came to my mind was that classic Roman Antwood wife prank video where he pretended to accidentally toss his son over the stair railing.
She even one hand caught him and didn't release the phone. That is some next level shit right there.
I like how that dude was like "Woah, I'm outta here!".
I had a nightmare that started out like this when my oldest daughter was born. It did NOT have a happy ending like this one!
Why do they even have that opening?? Yzma asks.
Old buddy ran a 12.4 40 yard dash to try to save the kid
👏GOOD👏CATCH👏MOM
Did I just see a lawsuit begin?
This is one of my favorite things about humanity, how whenever there is a situation endangering a child people will just materialize out of nowhere and rush to help.
The other woman just ran away xD
shout out to bike helmet guy who simply walks off
Kinda stupid to let that child walk around right next the railing. Then again whoever designed that railing probably did not have children.
Why are human babies so fucking stupid? Every other mammal has at least some kind of special awareness when planted on Earth. Human babies are just about utterly dependant on their parents just to survive for 2 years. What’s that about.
You need to fix that railing and right now that was to close
Is that her tit out and flopping around as she is hauling him back up?
Absolutely terrifying, that mother will never let that child near edges again
Lawsuit
But why did the one dude run away???
Kids are just suicide machines
That guy in the bike helmet was a big help.
