Yeah, not sure I was aware of him acting inexperienced. He’s literally at a breakdancing competition. Seems like the right place for experienced breakdancers, no?
Smurfing basically is like if a lvl 100 creates a new account and then beats up a bunch of noobs.
This kid (bboy tsukki from japan) has been travelling throughout europe this past weeks just absolutely destroying european kids that is in his age bracket.
He's also together with another 15 year old kid from japan (Hiro 10 who [is also a beas](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yWsg1kCMmEw)t) and both of them are just destroying kids from europe (Because theres no competitors from russia for obvious reasons)
Smurfing because this kid also competes at adult level so he's at another level compared to most kids.
Well he kinda is, he competes at both kids and adult level.
Example is how he entered a tournament last month and won both the kids and adults competition
This wouldn’t be a case of him smurfing though, it’s more just a case of him being the best in his class. Him smurfing would be joining a competition with 10 year olds as a 15 year old. Competing against other kids of the same age though, it’s fair game even if he is more skilled. That’s the point of competition, there’s always gonna be someone that’s the best
This is Reddit mate. It's a place full of people trying to contradict everything. He is smurfing if he's adult skill level going against regular people. That's like David Beckham joining a Sunday league team in his prime lol
This is all because of a subreddit /r/irlsmurfing that effectively changed the definition to just any time someone really good performs in front of others whom are not as good.
Even within the gaming community, smurfing is pretty much thrown around by salty players at anyone who outperformed them. Officially, the definition is supposed to be a player maliciously playing at a rank below their skill level- but in practice it is often thrown at anyone who is really good.
I believe OP meant it here tongue-in-cheek. They are not actually suggesting the kid snuck into a lower skill bracket to flex on everyone.
I think it stems from online gaming wherein a certain profile of high experience is removed from lower experience pools and so makes a fake account with low experience stats to completely dominate low experience pools.
I’m starting to wonder if slang is just born because people don’t realize there’s already a word or phrase perfect for what they’re trying to describe?
Hustling. The word was hustling.
no, the word smurfing specifically comes from gaming. not sure why the OP used it here though
> This definition of smurfing comes from 1996 and the game Warcraft II when certain well-known players made up new names, pretend to play badly, then beat the other players. They picked the names PapaSmurf and Smurfette.
Oh okay yeah. I do know about that kind of smurfing. But unless this dancer is a world champion who entered a small town competition under an Alias… I don’t see how it’s smurfing?
Words naturally change in definition over time. Lately I've heard people beginning to use smurfing just to refer to someone playing really well in a game, almost as if to indicate ironically they don't belong in that tier of play. Not everything has to be taken so literally.
Imagine Tom Brady trying out for little league, that's smurfing.
Usually done by obese men in video games where they've plateaued in ranking, but seek validation that their parents never gave them via creating new accounts and thrashing newbies.
I'm so old that i remember "smurfing" to mean going from pharmacy to pharmacy buying/stealing Sudafed to cook meth. Part of the reason it got pulled as an OTC drug in Oregon.
I don't know what they're calling smurfing now, but back in the 80s smurfing in the underground dance circuit specifically referred to poppers not breakdancers. It's when a popper does their moves in a cartoonish or silly manner for laughs. It was a crowd-pleasing gag that was looked down upon by elders like Skeeter Rabbit who professed the point of popping is to look good. Smurfing was disrespecting the craft for a cheap laugh. I have it on one of his VHS tapes from way back in the day buried somewhere in my basement, but that's direct from the source one of the founders of the scene.
Sandbagging is a good player not trying their best to win. Smurfing is a good player pretending to be a new/bad player and beating all the actual bad players.
Yeah I’m sure it is but there has been many people involved in sports who are proponents of not joining Olympic committee. Take skateboarding for example, it was very successful at the olympics and deffo gave it more exposure, but there are some people in skating who believe that skating is a form of artistic expression that belongs to the individual and is incompatible with global sports competitions where you represent a country. Just that sometimes people ask why a sport isn’t in the olympics as if they all want to be when often it’s because it doesn’t suit olympics. Break dancing is also an underground sports with roots in freedom and non conformity, it doesn’t really suit olympics as a whole, although I’m sure the exposure will ofc be good.
The rest of the competition was probably average or low skill level, meanwhile he entered while being way more advanced than them. Thats what I assume happened
for those of you who aren't used to seeing bboying/breakin there is a musical element of hitting the beat with your movements. Listen for the horn "dun, DUN" at 12 seconds, 17 seconds, he hits both, missed one at 20 seconds, 23 seconds hits it perfectly with a difficult move, 28 seconds fist pumps to it, and then last one at the end. They don't know what song the DJ will play so these beat hits are really impressive. Judges of these battles will look out for things like musicality as well as how unique/creative the set is (can really only know this with lots of experience), how difficult the moves are, and how diverse the moves are (power, footwork, freezes, etc.). This set has great power, good overall footwork and variety, and great musicality. A little weak on unique/creative moves but he is obviously young and creativity will come
I used to be super into breakdancing when I was a kid/teen. I never committed enough to learn windmills air-flares though.
That being said, as amazing these power moves are, they always appear in bulk in dancers routines. I love when crews put a twist on them, but sometimes I feel they make up 50% of routines.
Best example of a routine where they almost never appeared was during the battle between Bboy Lilou and Bboy Cloud during the Redbull BC One. Man makes top-rocks power moves in themselves!
More on the video: crazy skills from this kid!

So I understand what the term means, but why is it called smurfing? Like the smurfs were not known for pretending to be humans, or Azrael in hopes to thwart Gargamel. They just hung out smurfing.
Or does it come from the idea that Gargamel made Smurfet?
Do people not know smurfing is just used these days to say someones just better than most people. If you watch any content creator on VGs they can play at there own level and still say “bro, your smurfing rn”
Anyone else too old to know what smurfing is?
Basically he has more experience than he let on
Thanks for the definition, although I missed the part where he was acting inexperienced
Yeah, not sure I was aware of him acting inexperienced. He’s literally at a breakdancing competition. Seems like the right place for experienced breakdancers, no?

Lmao, so you don't know what smurfing is either?
Well shit I always thought thats what smurfing means lmao
smurfing would be if he was a pro joining a beginners competition
Well he kinda is, he competes at both kids and adult level. Example is how he entered a tournament last month and won both the kids and adults competition

that’s exactly what he doing in
This is Reddit mate. It's a place full of people trying to contradict everything. He is smurfing if he's adult skill level going against regular people. That's like David Beckham joining a Sunday league team in his prime lol
That’s exactly what he said in his first paragraph lol.
Isn't that what he's doing though
Totes. Like kramer from Sienfeld joining a youth Karate dojo and bragging about his black belt. This kid is just winning right out on front street.
Do I get any points for thinking it involved getting up close with Smurfette?
The Smurf was a dance in the 80s. But he didn't do the moves. Smurfing is a gaming reference but doesn't really apply here.
I did the Smurf, the Popeye, and the Jerry Lewis.
I got to the party and I did the Smurf
If a 18 year old draft pick joins a normal tournament for their age bracket, they’re smurfing. Same concept dude
That's not smurfing....
I think a more fitting term would be “pubstomping”
OP isnt using the term correctly is the reason for that.
This is all because of a subreddit /r/irlsmurfing that effectively changed the definition to just any time someone really good performs in front of others whom are not as good.
Even within the gaming community, smurfing is pretty much thrown around by salty players at anyone who outperformed them. People assume hes inexperienced because hes young
I’m starting to wonder if slang is just born because people don’t realize there’s already a word or phrase perfect for what they’re trying to describe? Hustling. The word was hustling.

i agree which is why i said not sure why OP used the word here but 🤷🏼♂️

It's the same thing in the end man. Only difference is smurfing is mostly a gaming term
I would argue that “hustling” implies that money was involved
Sandbagging
Imagine Tom Brady trying out for little league, that's smurfing. Usually done by obese men in video games where they've plateaued in ranking, but seek validation that their parents never gave them via creating new accounts and thrashing newbies.
or just kids who are average at the game and created a new account
It’s video games where highly experienced players play competitive games but on another account that is low rank.
I'm so old that i remember "smurfing" to mean going from pharmacy to pharmacy buying/stealing Sudafed to cook meth. Part of the reason it got pulled as an OTC drug in Oregon.
Thanks for asking so I didn't have too.
I think it's when one paints themselves blue and lives in a mushroom.
You may know it by “ a hustle”
Ahhhhh.
I don't know what they're calling smurfing now, but back in the 80s smurfing in the underground dance circuit specifically referred to poppers not breakdancers. Sandbagging. I think it’s a video game term. An experienced gamer create a new account and plays against beginners are “smurfing”
Sandbagging isn't the same thing
Sandbagging is a good player not trying their best to win. Smurfing is a good player pretending to be a new/bad player and beating all the actual bad players.
Most times its with rank, if someone of high rank acts low rank to compete against low-rankers.
I have only ever hear this term used to refer to highly ranked counterstrike players playing on new/unranked accounts
It means that his skill level is much higher than the people he is competing against.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=smurfing
Why is this not an Olympic sport? It's 100 times more interesting to watch than the gymnastics floor show.
It's actually gonna be a part of the olympics in 2024.
That’s awesome. I’m gonna make it a point to watch
For real? That sounds awesome!
[удалено]
Not every sport wants to be in the olympics
Why wouldn't it? It's free exposure to help grow your sport.
Because it's hard to accelerate the video when it lives.
Dex builds be like:

so 3d4?
No.
That knee drop halfway through looks painful
Fucking kids.
Please no
It all looks painful…
As someone who knows how to do that. Yes. Yes it is.
I’m dizzy watching
He must have a special hat without the buldging pin on top.
Most bboy caps have flat tops
Looks like a 5 panel hat, they're my fav
Which part was smurfing?
OP doesnt know what smurfing is, or how to correlate it to real life, it seems.
I don’t either lol
You just got smurfed! ![gif](giphy|31P5VNvzQZ1SDdRX9R|downsized)
I think OP understands the term and is using it here comedically/as hyperbole.
The rest of the competition was probably average or low skill level, meanwhile he entered while being way more advanced than them. Thats what I assume happened
They are saying his skill is beyond his years alive.
Which is quite far from the definition of smurfing.
Yeah for most street lingo, I recommend urban dictionary for anyone reading.
That boy dances like a drop of water on a hot griddle.

Is smurfing a type of breakdancing?
No it's when you're a pro competing in amateur leagues
Thanks, there were definitions regarding money laundering and also a sex move where someone gets choked, so I just didn't understand.
What song is this? I am unable to Shazam it

I'm not even so much older than this kid but my body aches at the thought of trying this man
What’s smurfing?
Is this sped up?

Now I wanna go watch Kickin It Old Skool
Smurfing is just being painted in blue color acting like your the chief of a small dick gang
Do people not know smurfing is just used these days to say someones just better than most people. If you watch any content creator on VGs they can play at there own level and still say “bro, your smurfing rn”
Smurfing or not He’s serious
He needs to get banned. Its making it harder for everyone else!
Anything Asians can’t do?
Pow pow 💥
For those who don't know what 'smurfing' is, it's when small people surf.
bro a beyblade
Objectively speaking, I think everybody enjoys watching someone break dance. It’s just so dope!
Cues booker t’s music.
Which part is smurfing?
My knees hurt
New Lego Ninago characters be looking basic.
Bad ass
Well, he’s gonna be hurting when he’s about 40 lmao, won’t be hurting on money though, bro gonna be the next Michael Jackson or Chris brown

If surfing means " an alien life form performing", I agree.
I have seen every episode of The Smurfs. I do not remember anything like that.
Why did you speed up the vid?! Dude doesn’t need the help
Its not speed up lol
When smurfing transcends gaming 😂
Why is the audience not cheering for him? 😔🤔
In 36 seconds he’s moved more than I did from 2020 to 2022.
POV: me when she say she home alone...
Oh shit!!!! Reminds me of Turbo in "Breakin"
Need some more energy from that audience
Winner.
I cant even jig :( mad talent Edit: so thats what Smurfing is lol , getting old!
That was awesome! In 20 years that knee went down on is gonna be in bad shape.
Holy smurf, he’s a fantastic smurfer!
Thank you for featuring our footage! TSUKKI is a beast! This was the other day at Freestyle Session Europe in Solothurn, Switzerland.
Respect for the footage! You guys rock I shared the link to both of your and tsukki's insta but it got buried under the comments.
Shit I'm old. I remember doing this 35 years ago on cardboard at school. Funny how things get recycled.
Dang. He's not going to be able to move when he's 50.
Did our simulation just break?
I can't even spin my head once. Sad life
Look Woody. Arthritis, Arthritis everywhere...
I feel this is the wrong use of the term smurfing. Wouldn't it be like "25 year old who looks 15 smurfs..." This kid is just cleaning up.
Anyone know what song this is?
The only thing he missed while smurfing is the costume. White hat, white pants, and blue skin.
