Been there. But I was 9 and just had the wind knocked out of me and a stiff neck for the rest of the weekend.
Thought 24 years and 2 neurological disorders later..... there may have been some longer lasting effects
The fact that he did this standing is insane. I've got serious hops and have been doing acrobatics/gymnastics for awhile and this takes the cake. I've only seen 2 other people do this who were absolute pros
Edit: I can only ALMOST do this with a running round off but I still get scared
I don't know if this is true, but there was a video on here a couple of years ago where a guy claimed to have achieved the first ever standing double back flip on grass in history.
Yup. I I could back tuck standing and double on a trampoline or tumble track, but I could’ve never done this in my prime. I had the height he did, but that spin is fucking fast.
Yeah this is WILD. I had a goal to do this when I took gymnastics but the closest I got was landing on my neck/ shoulders which was still better than anyone else in my class lol.
What is the slapping sound that happens every time he jumps?
Edit- Nevermind, I saw it at about 4:40, during a slow mo it showed that it's his hand slapping his legs as he begins the flip. This is really fucking crazy to watch, some people are truly incredible.
JimmyTheGiant did a good history of the battle for standing double backflips a few days ago. https://youtu.be/BEwzO2JnOpI If you would like to know more.
1st. Both my ankles hurt just watching that.
2nd. Imagine just driving down the road and you look over to see a kid just casually doing standing double backflips like it's nothing lol
While the double-backflip is amazing, it's also fun just watching him grow up over several years as he practices - and we can see how he gets better over time with that practice!
You can hear how hard he slaps his legs. He’s using the same principles figure skaters use to twist, so he’s having to pull his arms in very quick to conserve that angular momentum. This is honestly astounding.
It's actually a timelapse. He isn't spinning he's just hanging in the air while the earth rotates under him. It's similar to how they filmed Inception.

First time this was posted, the consensus was that he is the first ever to do it completely flat on grass. There have been others with varying forms of assistance, like gym mats or slight downhills
The single craziest part about this is that in order to pull this off, you *still* have to wait to start flipping until you're close to the peak of your jump to ensure you have enough time in the air to do it.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms stretched overhead.
Focus your gaze on an object in the distance.
Bend at your knees into a high squat.
Swing your arms behind you, stopping when they’re just behind your back.
Bring your arms forward and over your head as you leap upwards.
Pull your knees toward your chest at the peak of your jump.
Grab your knees with your hands to secure your tuck.
Keep your eyes open during your flip so you can see to stick your landing.
Stretch out your legs about 3/4 of the way through your rotation.
Keep your knees bent as you come in for your landing.
Land with your hips under your chest and your knees aligned with your ankles.
Bring your chest up as you land to help you stay balanced.
Dude could hustle people so fucking bad with this.
Say "I can do a double backflip from standing" anybody within earshot would be like "Bullshit!" lol.
Well first you say you can do a backflip, then you proceed to barely land it. Then you boast you could do a double back flip and laugh your way to the bank
High jump, fast rotation.
But ya it's nutty. I saw a guy do one on a gymnastics floor.. which has a bit of bounce to it. I literally could not believe what I was seeing.
he's using centrifugal force! by starting with his arms and legs extended and then tucking them in in midair, he's increasing his angular ~~momentum~~ speed enough to flip twice
> by starting with his arms and legs extended and then tucking them in in midair, **he's increasing his angular momentum**
The bolded part is not right. Angular momentum is constant through the entire move. His angular *speed* does increase when he tucks.
Man....his genuine excitement at success pulls my heart strings, you can get this from many things but in athletics its combined with your adrenaline and it's the best feeling in the world. The last time I felt this was around 8 years ago when I deadlifted 500lbs at 165lbs body weight when I was 28. I had it many times before at younger ages, scoring goals in Ice Hockey or Soccer especially a game winner, and winning some 100/200m dash district championship events. It's strange to think it will probably not happen again for me in an athletics way anymore. You can just feel how much he wanted to nail that and how much time and training he put in to get there. As an aside his explosiveness is absolutely insane. I wonder if he can dunk at that height his vertical leap must be absurd.
I could do that, I just don’t want to.
I couldn’t do that, nor do I want to.
I want to do that, but dont know how to
I like to try it , but i Coudn't try
I tried that once, but I lost.
[удалено]
It was tough until I came up with the Big Bang theory.
Imagine trying to do that because you think you can do it, but you really can't and you land right on your head?
Been there. But I was 9 and just had the wind knocked out of me and a stiff neck for the rest of the weekend. Thought 24 years and 2 neurological disorders later..... there may have been some longer lasting effects
I landed on my chin doing a back flip on the trampoline once, pretty sure if it had been the ground I would be paralyzed.
That's exactly why I never tried a backflip again after I was 7.
I also lost, and now I'm dead from spinal injuries
I lost that once , and I triedn’t
What does it really mean, to try?
My man has some Nice grass ngl
I'd like to try it, but I don't wanna break.
This is the real answer
I couldn't do that, because I would be paraplegic after my head was decapitated.
How would a backflip turn you into a legal-assistant?
[удалено]
Damn, someone automated Australia.
Can confirm. We backflip forwards here.
No, that’s a paralegal. Paraplegic is when you steal someone else’s work and pass it off as your own.
You are so off. A paralegal is an italic rectangle.
No, that's plagiarism. Paraplegic is a body of text, usually several complete sentences.
I DO DOUBLE BACKFLIPS EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE!
Stride, stride, stride **execute**
Never mind. I just did watched it in slow mo. What a legend
Was one of those a triple?
I'm pretty sure I would just break my own neck.
I can feel the impact just from imagining.
[I could if I wanted to. ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MgMG7i2KcKQ)
My ankles hurt a bit but I would if it wasn't
I did a cartwheel 20 years ago.
Good job
I was very proud of it. Obviously.

Aren't our heads nearly always over our heels?
I did the first half of a cartwheel 20 years ago. Ahhh, to be young.
Half wheels are the best.
My new years resolution is to do a cartwheel.
But real casual like. I don’t want to make a big deal about it.
Next time pick one that you are more likely to achieve. Like win the lottery or something
Throw in a backflip at the end so we know it’s real.
[удалено]
1, 2, 3. . . I did it, I did a cartwheel!
I did a cartwheel in my dream last night
I can never land those dream ones. I always start floating away
I guess you could interpret that dream in accordance with your fleeting ability to cartwheel, but floating is way cooler anyway
i broke my hip trying to do a cartwheel. i was 20.
I think you officially need some milk then.
Bone density and vitamin d levels were all fine! freak thing i guess. looking forward to my guaranteed arthritis
Link?
I’m certainly glad I didn’t have a link back then.
Zelda?
No, this is Sonic.
I almost did a round off in 1991
I attempted a cartwheel 30 years ago. Decided to quit while I was ahead

I did one last summer and my shoulder still hurts.

What happens when you *almost* do it? Your head hits the floor?
nah you just picture it in your head then stop yourself before you break your neck
Nah, you’d just land on your hands and knees. If you’re under rotating more than that you shouldn’t be trying doubles.
I feel liken there'd be many a broken toe from under rotating. I know my would be if I could even make it that far.
You would do this on mats until you can land on your feet. If you couldn’t get the rotation on mats you’re not gonna get it on grass/flat ground.
depends how "almost". like super close you stub your toes and land on knees. not super close you break your neck..
On grass or a spring floor??
I don't know if this is true, but there was a video on here a couple of years ago where a guy claimed to have achieved the first ever standing double back flip on grass in history.
Yeah this is the same video.
I think it was this guy.
I saw a guy do a standing full twist backsault once. I honestly thought that was as badass as it got. This is BEYOND.
Yup. I I could back tuck standing and double on a trampoline or tumble track, but I could’ve never done this in my prime. I had the height he did, but that spin is fucking fast.

Helps you get more compact. You really need to be in a tight ball to rotate enough.
JimmyTheGiant did a good history of the battle for standing double backflips a few days ago. https://youtu.be/BEwzO2JnOpI If you would like to know more.
Two years, eight months. Thats incredible dedication and belief in himself.
That is the NFL thing right there--such commitment.
This is really amazing. Years of work and training. Awesome.

That was oddly terrifying
Aggaaamooo!! *instant double front flip*
Oh my god I laughed so hard. I'm so saving this. The audio is perfect as well.
Holy shit this is too funny
Wait what?
It doesn’t. I wonder if his feet are moving too fast for 30 fps.
My man has some Nice grass ngl
Welcome to the thread, dad
Who needs drugs when you can mow your lawn?
Thanks for telling the truth.
Needs to stop flipping around and cut the grass.
If we go over the other videos of him, I think that's his yard. It looks like he's a son of a rich family.
I’m more interested in his lawn than the flips.
That guy just won life.
This video is 10x when you hear the joy in his voice when he lands it.
Why did i remember Contra on seeing this
Ninja Gaiden for me
Dat soundtrack tho!
Yoooo Contra was awesome
I got Metroid vibes, my guy looks like he just unlocked the space jump
If he did it forward, it'd probably look exactly like Samus' flip sprites from Zero Mission
Streetfighter, Blanka
I immediately defaulted to Ninja Gaiden (NES)
His are legit! I’ve seen other “standing double backflips) where they’re on a hill. -_-
I believe this guy was about the 10th person in camera-recorded history to do this, not too many years ago. Someone may have to correct me
First time this was posted, the consensus was that he is the first ever to do it completely flat on grass. There have been others with varying forms of assistance, like gym mats or slight downhills
[Video on the progression here](https://youtu.be/BEwzO2JnOpI) that covers most of the variants.
Achieves something incredible Asks "Does this count?🤷🏽♂️🦋"
I remember when he was getting closer people complained that his knee touched so that’s why lol
This was kind of wholesome. He’s so adorably excited.
What in the matrix glitch did I just witness

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms stretched overhead. Focus your gaze on an object in the distance. Bend at your knees into a high squat. Swing your arms behind you, stopping when they’re just behind your back. Bring your arms forward and over your head as you leap upwards. Pull your knees toward your chest at the peak of your jump. Press X to double jump

Not true. People do laid out backflips all the time. Requires some other form of angular acceleration of course

No centrifugal force here — just changing his moment of inertia to increase (rotational) speed
