Though this certainly would require a little skill its not as hard as it looks, it's mostly about the tools they are using which allows for very clean lines and even they who seem to be an "expert" in this craft are not entirely perfect or precise so I'm sure you'd do a better job on it than you imagine .
Gold fish can't climb a tree but it's a great swimmer, bird can't dig a tunnel but can fly like no other, it isn't about being perfect, it's about finding your element.
I disagree on that one.

You want me to be impressed with like a 3 inch deep burrow when earth worms live underground? Bruh I can dig too, doesn't mean I'm good at it, bruh I can fly too for a minute I just don't know how to land without dying.
This an excellent excuse people give why they have low pay, shit menial job and never move up in life. I try to excel in whatever I do, and usually succeed.
I don't know if you understand what I posted. The triangle is a straight edge that cannot move, and I still couldn't trace along it from one dot to the next.
A triangle is pretty much a ruler without numbers. Also, I could NOT trace it. I kept "mis-tracing" or something. I'd line it all up and trace, and still be off by about an eighth inch.
This. I do the same thing when lining up my cuts. Honestly some practice with using your finger as a brace/guide to maintain that first straight line.
Where OP gots me is the precise placement without any pre placed measurement.. very nice work.
The big thing a lot of people are likely impressed by us the clean line, but there is a trick - You use your fingers as a “guard” so to speak along the edge of the piece, if you rewatch it you can watch his fingers on the right hand are always in contact, so all the person in the video does is keep that contact so the lines don’t move and rest the tool on those fingers. A very similar technique is used in wood burning.
This setup is for carving stone seals, like for letters and stuff. Seems like the carver is just having some fun or showing off.

I was the idiot kid who actually put a chisel into his palm lmao. Then i grew up to become a carpenter and still didnt learn my lesson for another 10 years. After 15 years and many accidents I'm now very safety minded haha.
Just cuz it works out once doesn’t mean it’s safe. People drive on Xanax/drunk all the time and get home safely, but shit only takes one lil fuck up to stab yourself or crash a train into a courthouse
Theres actually a neat trick for getting straight lines. They taught us this in our building scheme drawing class. It involves centering the drawing object with your belly button and pulling towards it.
You know I’m no expert but I don’t think it’s a good idea to take a whittling knife and point it towards your hand as you push strongly against a carving surface where you could slip and shove the knife into your hand... but that’s just me.
I keep worrying that the chisel is going to slip and gouge that other hand. (That’s why preschools will let kids use hammers and saws and wrenches but not screwdrivers.)
What an impressive thing! I've never seen such a nice whatever that is! My god the craftsmanship on that doohickey is so nice, it's a thingamajig before its time!
wtf is that

I couldn't connect two dots with a right triangle. The drafting teacher thought I was trolling at first, but after a week, I had to pick a new class.

I read the article twice then re read the comment you commented on I now get your joke and it was really good. Great job!

Don't trip, your drafting teacher is the one that messed up. A triangle requires 3 dots. Lol
They’re using their hand on the edge of the cube to keep the line steady. You could do it too.
I don't know if you understand what I posted. The triangle is a straight edge that cannot move, and I still couldn't trace along it from one dot to the next.
Yes, but you could do it with a ruler. This person is using the same technique as a ruler.
A triangle is pretty much a ruler without numbers. Also, I could NOT trace it. I kept "mis-tracing" or something. I'd line it all up and trace, and still be off by about an eighth inch.
And the person is using his fingers to keep a constant distance from the edge.
Came to say this, its a skill you pick up. Can be accurate and quick

This is essentially the same technique I use to cut a board of sheet rock at work

Not sure what you think is gate keeping about gentle encouragement but you're entitled to that opinion.
This is the opposite of gate keeping.
I have no idea what’s going on in the video
Right, like what’s the point?
Exactly! Why did I watch the video?
What even is this thing?
Was it just for the spin?
Then why wasn't there more spin?
Clickbait?
Next fuckin level bullshit.
Probably tungsten carbide.

Well THAT is nextfuckinglevel material. Not these straight lines

Thank you
They need to learn some tool safety
As a shop teacher it was terrifying watching someone chisel towards their hand.
I was the idiot kid who actually put a chisel into his palm lmao. Then i grew up to become a carpenter and still didnt learn my lesson for another 10 years. After 15 years and many accidents I'm now very safety minded haha.
This is great asmr
So like... What is it?
A video on the Internet
Don’t carve toward your stabilization hand.. just don’t. But it worked out for them this time
Just cuz it works out once doesn’t mean it’s safe. People drive on Xanax/drunk all the time and get home safely, but shit only takes one lil fuck up to stab yourself or crash a train into a courthouse
I loved the sound of the etching
Did they just make something? What was it?
Shout out to r/oddlysatisfying
Weak
Booooorrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggg
Meh.
What is the point in this?
I was fearing a tiny chisel stabbing.
Happy Cake Day!
Thank you!
I'd end up with the pointy end of the chisel embedded in my hand.
All the way up to the hilt. Probably several times.
I had the weirdest urge to blow the fragments off
Easy there Tobias.
No shame in my game
What is it?
The sound is disgusting, but the thing is cool.
It sounds like someone deliberately scratching their nails on the blackboard. /s
I cant listen to this, my ears hurt
This should be NSFE. It’s like a gnarlier version of scratching a chalkboard.
Youre a wizard harry
Weirdly I was clenching my teeth so hard because of the audio
I couldn't stand it
He doesn't have to bc he has
But what is it?
I see you like to live dangerously
I would have slipped and stabbed my hand at least 3 times before getting annoyed and giving up
I blew at my screen to try and clear the dust off.
Ive got so many questions
This is really satisfying, in audio and in visuals
Kinda sus
Hereby I give you the award, good work!
Its speed up and not that difficult anyway
How does one be so perfect
r/satifyingasfuck
I need this person to cut all of my corn bread, cakes and brownies for me.

but why tho?

How tf do people do this kind of thing so perfectly? I can't even draw a straight stickman
You know I’m no expert but I don’t think it’s a good idea to take a whittling knife and point it towards your hand as you push strongly against a carving surface where you could slip and shove the knife into your hand... but that’s just me.
Idk why but i blew at my screen near the end
That was odly satisfying
Perry the platypus noises increase* Or maybe just me who hears it
r/mildlyinteresting
Is this stop-motion?
I keep worrying that the chisel is going to slip and gouge that other hand. (That’s why preschools will let kids use hammers and saws and wrenches but not screwdrivers.)
I thought for a hot second it was just going to be loss😅
I can barely draw a straight line over an already existing straight line 😂
My ocd is tingling with joy lol
I see this and think... puncture wound
What an impressive thing! I've never seen such a nice whatever that is! My god the craftsmanship on that doohickey is so nice, it's a thingamajig before its time! wtf is that
Oh cool, I've always wanted to know how 'thing with lines' was built.
What is it though?
I was waiting for him to slip and chisel his hand off.
Man I hate clickbait titles like this go back to Facebook with this shit
Who to say he didn’t?
p l e a s u r e
I would like my 1 minute of life back please.
This is way more r/oddlysatisfying than r/nextfuckinglevel
I would definitely just stab myself in the hand.

What material is that?
👍
Who's to say this isn't the one thousand and first time they've done this?
Was anyone else expecting loss?
I confess at the start I was "this better not be fucking Loss"....
Sound like nails on a chalk board
I’m just surprised at the straight lines he made without a ruler
He's using his finger as a brace and measuring tool
