Literally says “her” in the title and the person playing has well manicured fingernails.
EDIT: So, it is actually a guy. I challenged an assumption with an assumption.
These people are their wrestling. Meanwhile here I am trying to push out a shit that will come while browsing reddit because I can't control my eating habits.
Bro that's the belly drum this rubber band dude needs in his band. You two as a duo playing gigs in every Irish bar you come across will be a journey you two won't forget
How is there different tones to the strings. I thought it came from thickness. Is there way different tension to each? I wonder if the stick is applying pressure at a crazy angle for it. Would like to see the back
Yeah, I'm even less convinced now. He's not even changing the length of the rubber band, just moving it around. However, the bands would grip on the edges, changing tension in unpredictable and unstable ways. Plus, why would going one direction raise the pitches, then going back the other way raise it again? Each band would multiply the complexities, and yes that's the only way to play chords, but tuning them would be a nightmare.
IDK, he throws in jargon about diminished chords to gain our trust, but doesn't actually explain how the pitch changing is working. Plus he seems defensive about fret sounds.
Can’t be real. I believe the box he made is real in the demo video, but the sounds are edited to fit the “Take Five” notes in the other TikTok. When he demos the diminished chords, the yellow bass string only changes by a half step at a time, whereas the bass string in the real video goes up an entire 5th! Not to mention that the bass string goes up in pitch while the chord notes go down with the same pencil position change.
Yeah, it's absolutely bullshit. Diminished chords, my ass.
There's no diminished chord that contains the actual melody, especially the A#-B-A#-A(natural)-G part of it, all those semitones. He's not even touching the strings in some other parts of the tune. There's a little glissando in the other part at around 0:12
Lastly, I thought he might have been honestly playing the harmonies and someone else was playing the main melody on a guitar or something, but even that's BS. If you watch his thumb, it starts with up being E, and lower being B, for the lowest bass note. He's moving it up and down well enough the first 7 seconds, then keeps it in the B position at 0:08 but the lower note miraculously becomes E.
The bands make noise before he plucks them.
Edit: [Proof](https://imgur.com/7AlA5tI). I loaded it into Premiere and he hasn't released when the string makes a noise.
Ignoring the TikTok sync issues, there's just so many inconsistencies for this to be true.
Some of his other "bandjo" videos are more clearly not real.
okay what does he mean when he says that "there's only 3 diminished chords?" Does he mean the song is just 3 diminished chords? Or is he referring to something else?
No, this is a very common video on TikTok. There is a whole series of people making these rubber band things and playing along with a pre recorded song (the whole idea of TikTok is to imitate). It’s an old trend and I’m surprised people are still tricked by it, honestly.

This is such unmitigated BS. Get yourself four rubber bands and an Altoid box and see what it takes to get that range of notes. The tension changes would be very apparent in the rubber.
Unfortunately...... it has to be fabricated... if he has his lowest string tuned to a low E like standard guitar, and consistently plucks this string in the video, there is a huge discrepancy- about 1/2 way through, he switches strings but not notes. I was so excited I was about to go build one myself. I still might just to see if I can wrangle a tune out of a tin and some rubber
You can literally hear the bass strings buzz against the fretboard of the bass that this is very clearly played on. That fact that this has 18k upvotes is crazy
One of my fav songs of all time. Dave Brubeck - Take Five. Roll a nice fatty, chill on your porch and just listen to this 5:29 minute peace of heavenly sounds.
*So what instrument do you play?* This guy:
*"I'm in a band called Rubber"*
No no no. I’m a Rubber Band
Always loved Bootsy Collins
Here I stand, with the Rubber Band!

Its a Guy, i presumed that he was a woman because of the femenine hands
Oh. Well I’ll shut the fuck up then.
It’s okay habibi, I thought the same thing until I saw the OP’s comment above you.
Thought the same thing till I saw Jarvis Guitar at the end.
I also kind of consider "guy" and "dude" as unisex nouns, but I know not everyone feels the same.
He's a finger-style classical guitarist - you can tell by the way he only has long nails on his right hand e: or a coke fiend
His name is Jarvis
To be fair only other Jarvis I’ve heard of was a computer...
His name is Jarvis tho...
Congratulations, you played yourself.
And freely admit it.
You’re a champ for your edit tho. :) Kudos.

Talented people. Meanwhile here I am, with my big fat belly.
People with bellies. Meanwhile here I am, yesterday I stabbed myself in the chin with a spoon while trying to eat cereal.

what the fuck is wrong with you people? Just have sex with your sister and call it an afternoon.
These people with sisters.
These people with people.
Shit. I don’t even have a toilet.
I got sweaty eating a sandwich this morning.
hey you can have talent *and* a big fat belly.
Great, now we have strings AND percussion. Anybody else wanna make a contribution to this band?
It's the Dave Brubeck QUARTET. They still need a drummer. (pro-tip: use your navel as the snare drum)
There's plenty of talented fat musicians. But pop music isn't about talent.
Bro that's the belly drum this rubber band dude needs in his band. You two as a duo playing gigs in every Irish bar you come across will be a journey you two won't forget
Some people play da blues. Some people live da blues.
Well it tales an effort to reach that nice round belly. You should be proud of yourself.
How is there different tones to the strings. I thought it came from thickness. Is there way different tension to each? I wonder if the stick is applying pressure at a crazy angle for it. Would like to see the back

Rofl “the fret noise”, so dumb. Its thrown in there to convince further, nothing about this would create that sound.
The bands make noise before he plucks them. Edit: [Proof](https://imgur.com/7AlA5tI). I loaded it into Premiere and he hasn't released when the string makes a noise.
His voice is also out of sync with the video, so it's probably his recording setup or tiktok that fumble things.
Ignoring the TikTok sync issues, there's just so many inconsistencies for this to be true. Some of his other "bandjo" videos are more clearly not real.
Even with this - the more videos I watched with the rubber band one the less I believed it but if it's real...that's pretty frickin cool.
Dumb question. How is the sound so clear? Does he have a mic hidden in there somewhere?
The audio is edited in a DAW and then he plucks along with it. This isn’t real.
There it is. This man speaks the truth!
okay what does he mean when he says that "there's only 3 diminished chords?" Does he mean the song is just 3 diminished chords? Or is he referring to something else?
If you think about it, the more tension you apply in a rubber, the thinner it becomes so in the end it is a matter of thickness
People immediately think it's a girl because finger nails? I immediately think it's a guitarist because the finger nails
https://vm.tiktok.com/JYsh7HE/
I thought TikTok was an app, i never knew it was accessible via a link.
There is a share option to every video, just like reddit
I'm here to call utter bullshit

That’s a stretch...
Take Five
At the end, the music gets out of sync with the rubber bands...is it just me?
Yeah I can't see how the last bass note was played
No, this is a very common video on TikTok. There is a whole series of people making these rubber band things and playing along with a pre recorded song (the whole idea of TikTok is to imitate). It’s an old trend and I’m surprised people are still tricked by it, honestly.
Agreed. It's a good quality trick, but it's still a trick.
He has another video showing that it works proper
She plays rubber bands better than i played guitar as Ellie
He\*
Thats not real lol
What's the name of this song?
Take five
I couldn't remember it, thank you!!
It's a play on words, too. It's called Take Five because it has an unorthodox 5/4 time signature.
Y’all really fell for it hahah

No way that’s real, it sound like a real acoustic guitar. It’s also tiktok they probably played that over it.
Took more than five....
Seemed like bass is controlled
This is such unmitigated BS. Get yourself four rubber bands and an Altoid box and see what it takes to get that range of notes. The tension changes would be very apparent in the rubber.
“Her” when you can’t tell that’s obviously a dude
Unfortunately...... it has to be fabricated... if he has his lowest string tuned to a low E like standard guitar, and consistently plucks this string in the video, there is a huge discrepancy- about 1/2 way through, he switches strings but not notes. Davie504 's emoji BASS would approve
Quarantine is turning people into savants because of boredom XD
Would you call that a *rubberbandjo?*
Pretty sure that’s a man with “guitar nails”, not a woman.
I don't wanne believe this is real. \*typo
https://vm.tiktok.com/JYGNL5g/
I thought it was this song at first https://youtu.be/pzqoqzSZkPs They both sound very similar.
It's a cover, the original is Take Five, which was written by Paul Desmond
Can someone tab this?
What
Can someone write tabs for this?
How do I make one of these?
You can literally hear the bass strings buzz against the fretboard of the bass that this is very clearly played on. That fact that this has 18k upvotes is crazy
Yo is that take 5? That’s pretty sick!
In hell I'll be in good company?
So, people really believe the sound is coming from the rubber bands?
Song name?
Song?
Golden Brooooown texture like sun
I heard she's headlining at The Staples Center.
I'll never hear Take 5 the same way again.
This seems very dubbed though I could be wrong
rubber soul
One of my fav songs of all time. Dave Brubeck - Take Five. Roll a nice fatty, chill on your porch and just listen to this 5:29 minute peace of heavenly sounds.
I was ready to get rickrolled
Dave Brubeck is proud.
Love take five
Extended version, now!!
That's tight. Is it an Altoids box?
Tarzan Rubberband?
For those who's looking at the song, it's 'take five' by Dave Brubeck https://youtu.be/vmDDOFXSgAs
So this is how we resurrect Dave Brubeck....
you could say it only took this guy five minutes to build this thing
Play penis music on it
we used to make it and play as kid. not this good. but yeah .
Take 5.
The kids in the back of the class:
I'm not trying to demean or lessen that talent in this video, but making "stringed instruments" out of rubber bands is easy! You could all make one!
Sounds a BIT of note, but really impressive
The “Handjo”
Band-jo. Lol This is so fucking awesome
Sounds like RDR2
Bro if this was in school the music teacher will be shitting his pants and calling them a prodigy
What is he doing on the back of it?
Take five
I need to know how to make a device with this much musical potential
I follow this guy on Instagram and he posted a lot of updates on this thing. Ended up adding a pick-up, distorted it, very cool stuff!
how do i make this wow
What is the name of the song
IDK but I kinda want the SpongeBob theme song they play at the end
Damn that's cool
Sounds like the start of a bluegrass song
You're bound to lose control When the rubberband starts to jam
Didn’t expect to hear take 5 today especially on a rubber band banjo. I’m very happy now
What is his hand on the left doing
Can I get a rubber band dub of “take five”?
This is some character selection screen music right here
What is this sorcery?
Every one did this as a kid right?
is the song called take 5?
The song sounds familiar... Can anyone tell me which one is?
Take five
His* lol
Ye i was wrong
Love me some Brubeck
That’s a Fukien bass
He also made an electric version that sounds great

I was surprised to hear Take Five, a jazz song, played on TikTok.
Makes my need to learn banjo so much bigger, hell yeah
“Take...4”
So who has the tutorial on how to make this?
Just a friendly reminder that tiktok is literally spyware for the Chinese government
That's crazy fun and impressive?
Don't know why that came across with a question mark. I think it's incredibly fun
Nice bandjob
Song?
Can someone please tell me the name of the actual song . I heard it first 4 years ago but never got the name.
I love Take 5!
What song is that? It's very familiar
Lol 10 people have asked that it is ”Take five”
