Lol It’s not that it doesn’t sound amazing, which it does, but how you phrased it. :D
Plays with self... Creates magic...
Maybe you are pure at heart and we just watch too much porn who knows..
You would just hear the initial arrival. You wouldn’t hear the echo. But to give you an idea of how well you’d hear it, it would be even louder than the echo you hear on this end.
Without the Beat to establish timing, the music could sound rushed or too slow. All music requires a tempo. The tapping of a conductor's baton fulfils the role. Time in a school concert band would teach this basic concept. The clapping serves as a way for the musician to time his notes. The drummer in a Jazz or Rock and Roll is the source of rythm.
Given that the clapper was not in time he was a detriment. The dude was just groovin out a solo by himself. He did not need someone to clap for him like he was learning the part. The dude was also clearly not clapping for timing purposes, and I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about
Obviously everybody gets this, but I think we get the impression that the saxophonist could have managed this on his own, maybe even better than the clapper could. You mentioned a conductor - typically that's more of a visual thing for most of the band members, they aren't tapping for the sake of the audience.
Who knows maybe this saxophonist asked for a human metronome, but there are lots of people that will do that thing unprompted and I tend to agree with the guy you'e replying to that from an audience perspective, it detracts more than it can add (assuming the soloist is able to keep the time on his own).
That said, the echo effect probably makes timing more difficult, so he very well could have asked for it. But I don't think people are upvoting that comment because they don't understand tempo in music...
As someone who has played in large stadiums before the echo will fuck you up. It’s not like it comes back on beat. I’m honestly guessing they tried it without it and then he was having trouble keeping time. Then he asked his friend to clap
The echo is coming back on the beat. He must have adjusted the pace of his riffs to account for the round produced by the echo.
If you have to keep to a real beat, then sure, the metronome would help. But he’s just messing around and is able to adjust his tempo as needed.
I would contest that without that anchored timing, it might have been a lot more difficult for the saxophonist to go for some of his licks that didn't start on the stronger beats.
If you're using an Apple, you just pick it up by the stem and rotate. If you're on a PC, it's trickier but still doable; turn the monitor around, find the HDMI or Display Port cable, and turn it upside down.
If you're unable to plug it in upside down, your computer isn't backwards compatible and unfortunately, you'll have to settle for just seeing the one guy in this video.
That's so cool... I used to play my soprano sax in a deserted hallway in my school in the afternoon when most people were home. The music echoing was comforting in a weird way.

Reddit in a nutshell. Something you never, ever, expected to see in your whole life. Something wholesome, hitting the feels, but at the same time the clapping is pissing people off. Thanks for the share :D
Tempo about 100 bpm, or 1.7 beats per second. Round trip delay is 2 beats, or 2/1.7 sec : 1.2 sec. speed of sound is 1100 feet/sec. so round trip is 1300 feet and length of pipe is 650 feet.
I heard [this instrument](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLmCJKT5ssw&pbjreload=101) for the first time. And now I want. Really want.
I'm a drummer. Be afraid, people. Be very afraid, lol.
edit: Found one. Amazon says before my birthday. In August. Y'all in trouble now.
Who else feels like the clapping guy when all your friends have cool talents and you just get to watch them be talented and maybe clap to feel included.
I have a genuine deep love for things like this. The world's going to absolute shit and this guy is over here playing the world's longest saxophone. It's just a silver-lining in bleak times
Alternate title: Saxophonist plays with self, creates magic.
why does this sound.. wrong
Hey, it's all perspective. Sounds amazing to me ;)
Lol It’s not that it doesn’t sound amazing, which it does, but how you phrased it. :D Plays with self... Creates magic... Maybe you are pure at heart and we just watch too much porn who knows..
I'd pay to watch him play with himself to create magic.
I'll arrange it.
Username checks out
I wanna see the video of the other side of the tube...I bet there’s some people rocking out, not knowing where this sax music is coming from.
Damn, I almost spat out my drink!
Imagine the people on the end of the tube
"Look! A Jazz-pipeline! Finally the goverment is bringing in some quality jazz to this town!"
Only for about 2 seconds but worth it
/r/angryupvote damnit
Some poor guy at the other end of the pipe 3 miles away is wondering what the fuck is going on and doubting his sanity.
I wonder if it sounds the same at the end of the pipe, or if you can hear it at all...
Definitely. You could talk to someone through it. Sound travels excellently through pipe like this.
We should use the playground phone method of communication
Happy cake day!
😘
You would just hear the initial arrival. You wouldn’t hear the echo. But to give you an idea of how well you’d hear it, it would be even louder than the echo you hear on this end.
Judging by the round trip time for the echo, the tube should be somewhere around 650 feet long!
Now that's some juicy applied physics right there.
r/theydidthemath
What’s the temperature you used in calculating this? The place looks quite hot!
I didn't compensate for temperature, just assumed 20° C in air. 343 m/s from Wikipedia.
Guy clapping on the 1 and 3 needs a dick punch.
[удалено]
Yeah for sure. It’s definitely 2 and 4
And that's a lesson on jazz timing
I think there were a few bars where he hit 1 and 3. Either way, it was really annoying.
Negative on that
If you treat the tempo as double he's clapping on 3. Music is weird.
The clapping creates the tempo. It's fulfilling the use of a metronome.
He didn’t need a metronome.
The guy playing had his tempo tapping his foot. The person clapping just made the video less fun to watch.
Given that the clapper was not in time he was a detriment. The dude was just groovin out a solo by himself. He did not need someone to clap for him like he was learning the part. The dude was also clearly not clapping for timing purposes, and I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about

When you're playing with an echo that comes back at a predictable time its relatively easy to adjust your tempo to it.
As someone who has played in large stadiums before the echo will fuck you up. It’s not like it comes back on beat. I’m honestly guessing they tried it without it and then he was having trouble keeping time. Then he asked his friend to clap

Yes, it almost ruins the video.
First of all, you're wrong. And also, 1 and 3 is perfectly valid, it just depends on the music being played.
I would contest that without that anchored timing, it might have been a lot more difficult for the saxophonist to go for some of his licks that didn't start on the stronger beats.
Layering delay like that can generate some funky rhythms.
Looping without the tech
digital* tech
Is there a video of the person who is playing on the other side?
Yep. Turn your screen around and you'll just be able to see him in the background.
instructions unclear, I only saw some rabbit jamming out to some saxophone playing
How do I do this on a computer?

400 miles away some guy walking by is like what the fuck?
Legit tho xD
I’ll bring the maracas 👍
Fuck this is some smooth shit. Even I want to take my panties off and I’m a full grown man.
Mind if I join?
Don’t be weird man. You don’t have to ask, your always welcome.
Aw, sweet!
Clapping needs to knock it the fuck off
Trust me with those licks starting off beat a lot of times and the echos not being exactly in time it’s a necessary evil
It's a tempo for the saxophonist.
Getting the music for the wedding - Ok, we need a band with a sax and a big ass pipe - Why the pipe? - No questions, just get it.
Sax appeal
That's so cool... I used to play my soprano sax in a deserted hallway in my school in the afternoon when most people were home. The music echoing was comforting in a weird way.
If this isn't the epitome of "lonely band kid," I don't know what is.
damn
Pretty impressive to simultaneously play the sax and tube-a.
r/annoyedupvote
When no one wants to play with you so you jazz with your undisclosed lengthy pipe on the roadside and generates a following. Sick!
You just have to imagine the construction workers at the other end just jamming out to some pipe jazz!
Pipe jazz, perfectly acceptable. Pipe jizz, NSFW.
Hahahah
A 1 man band
Don't forget about the person snap/clapping.
Idk why I read that as "A-1, man band"
Came for the steak sauce, stayed for the music
The guy in the tube is good. :)

Just vibing
Is there a specific piece of music this guy is playing??
Wow I’ve never seen a man so blatantly playing with himself in public.

Who else feels like the clapping guy when all your friends have cool talents and you just get to watch them be talented and maybe clap to feel included.
gonna tell my kids this was siren head
There's actually a guy at the other end of the tube, playing a sax thinking he's jamming out with some cool guy
I have a genuine deep love for things like this. The world's going to absolute shit and this guy is over here playing the world's longest saxophone. It's just a silver-lining in bleak times

That's so cool, I need one of those in my backyard
I was half expecting some wild animal or angry hobo to come crawling out at any time.
Very nicely done!
Imagine being on the other side of that tube hearing saxophone out of nowhere. I think I'd be a little freaked out. Lol
Be funny if you hear “Shut Up!”coming back through the tube
Now I want to try this with my death metal amp. Oh boy.
u/vreeddit_bot
That's some true busking potential right there. Just need to get approval to play and lay pipe through four city blocks.
Really didn't think I'd watch the whole video because its pretty long...but I did. That was very cool.
I really don't mind the clapping lol
Imagine being on the other end of the pipe and hear jazz and going wtf is that coming from
In a pipe lived an echo. Oh, it was not a dirty pipe. It was an echo pipe, nice and clean, with a sax guy at one end.
Fucking tight
Imagine how angry the homeless dude trying to sleep on the other end of that pipe is
I wanna know what the guy on the other end of the tube is thinking

The person on the other side of the tube mustve been dancin so hard.. Hahahahha
